New ‘Star Trek’ Movie in the Works From ‘Dungeons & Dragons’ Duo

by jummy84 November 14, 2025
written by jummy84

Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley, the duo behind “Dungeons & Dragons” and “Spider-Man: Homecoming,” are enlisting in Starfleet. They’ve been hired to write, produce and direct a new “Star Trek” film that will seek to revitalize the franchise after it has languished for nearly a decade without a big screen adventure.

However, as Variety previously reported, the new film will not be a continuation of the J.J. Abrams-led reboot of the series and won’t feature Chris Pine or any of the actors from those movies (Pine starred in Goldstein and Daley’s “D&D” film). In fact, while plot details are being kept under wraps, this project is not connected to any previous or current television series, movie, or prior movie development projects. So you’re out of luck Jean-Luc Picard and Kathryn Janeway!

Since “Star Trek Beyond” opened in 2016, the road to mounting a new film in the franchise has been bumpier than a Klingon’s forehead. Chris Hemsworth almost returned as the (seemingly deceased) father of Capt. Kirk from 2009’s “Star Trek.” Quentin Tarantino almost directed a “Star Trek” movie set in a world of 1930s gangsters. Noah Hawley and Matt Shakman each got so close to directing a “Star Trek” movie that sets were being built, but neither project came to fruition.

In 2024, Variety reported that Steve Yockey (“The Flight Attendant”) was writing a draft for the “final chapter” “Trek” movie starring the cast led by Pine, Zachary Quinto and Zoe Saldaña. And Toby Haynes (“Andor”) had been tapped to direct a “Star Trek” origin story written by Seth Grahame-Smith (“Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter”). But now both projects appear to be stranded in deep space with life support failing.

Getting a new “Star Trek” out of dry-dock has been a priority for Paramount since David Ellison’s Skydance took control of the company in August, because the series is one of the most enduring properties in the studio’s library. Daley and Jonathan Goldstein are known to Ellison and company, having recently written, directed, and produced the Skydance film “Mayday” starring Ryan Reynolds and Kenneth Branagh, which they produced through their GoldDay banner. It will premiere on Apple TV+.

Daley and Goldstein previously helmed New Line’s comedy “Game Night,” and wrote and directed the studio’s “Vacation” reboot. The duo’s additional writing credits include “Horrible Bosses” and “Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2.”

Goldstein and Daley are represented by CAA, Fourth Wall Management, and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller, Hoberman, Newman, Warren, Richman, Rush, Kaller, Gellman, Meigs & Fox.

Film Adaptation Of Booker Prize-Winning Novel ‘Flesh’ Is In The Works

by jummy84 November 12, 2025
written by jummy84

EXCLUSIVE: David Szalay’s Booker Prize-winning novel ‘Flesh’ is set to be made into a movie by Conclave producer House Productions.

“When something moves from one form to another it is transformed in profound ways, so I’m sure it will be different, but it will be fascinating to see,” the author told Deadline about the film project. “It does have quite a cinematic quality,” he added.

‘Flesh’ is Szalay’s sixth novel and he anticipates having a hand in the movie as it comes together. “I’ve never written a screenplay, so I wouldn’t want to do it on my own, I wouldn’t feel I had the expertise to do that or the experience. But I feel I have something that I could contribute to it and I will probably be in some way involved in the writing.”

‘Flesh’ follows a man named István from adolescence to old age. Beginning in Hungary, the story traces his life’s journey, from his time in the army through to rubbing shoulders with London’s super-rich. “I don’t think I’ve read a novel that uses the white space on the page so well,” said Booker Prize judge and ‘The Commitments’ author Roddy Doyle following its Booker win.

House operates across film and TV, and given the expansive nature of Szalay’s 368-page novel, there were discussions about whether it should be a feature film or a series. “There were arguments on both sides,” the author said. “On the film side, [the argument was] it could be made as a single, impactful work that can be taken in at one sitting… it would be a way of extracting the greatest power from it, and I can see that.”

We hear that İlker Çatak, the German writer-director of Oscar-nominated film The Teachers’ Lounge is talks to direct although not yet confirmed. There was tough competition for the rights to ‘Flesh’, which is published by Simon & Schuster imprint Scribner. Tessa Ross and Juliette Howell’s BBC Studios-backed indie House look to have won that battle. Its other recent film projects include Andrea Arnold’s Bird and Jonathan Glazer’s The Zone of Interest.

While Çatak is not yet confirmed, Szalay would clearly approve if he came on board. “The Teachers’ Lounge is a great film,” he said. “I’ve also seen some of his earlier films and he’s a brilliant fit for the story.”

The Booker Prize is the world’s most significant award for a single work of fiction. There is a long tradition of the winners of the Prize’s, as well as titles from the longlist and shortlist, being adapted film and TV. Notable examples include Michael Ondaatje’s ‘The English Patient’, Sally Rooney’s ‘Normal People’ and ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ by Margaret Attwood.

Michael Jackson Biopic Trailer Draws 30 Million Views in 6 Hours, A Sequel Reportedly in the Works

The first teaser for Michael, Lionsgate’s upcoming biopic about music legend Michael Jackson, generated more than 30 million views within its first six hours of release — a figure that marks a 50% increase over the debut numbers for John Wick: Chapter 4, according to Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Chair Adam Fogelson.

The update was shared during the studio’s earnings call on Thursday, where Fogelson also confirmed the film remains one of Lionsgate’s most anticipated releases. Directed by Antoine Fuqua and produced by Graham King, who also produced Bohemian Rhapsody, Michael is set to open in theaters on April 24, 2026. During the call, Lionsgate executives were asked whether plans remain in place for a second installment of Michael. The film was initially divided into two parts, as the original cut ran three and a half hours long. Additionally, a portion of the footage reportedly centered on one of Jackson’s accusers, who reached a settlement with the singer’s estate stipulating that their story could not be dramatized — an oversight the estate made when approving the film’s early development.

Responding to questions about a possible sequel, Fogelson said, “Since the last time we worked together on an earnings call, we’ve had the great pleasure of seeing the director’s cut of the first film, and it is exceptional.” He added, “While we’re not yet ready to confirm plans for a second film, I can tell you that the creative team is hard at work making sure that we’re in a position to deliver more Michael soon after we release the first film.” Fogelson concluded by praising the film’s lead, Jaafar Jackson, the late singer’s nephew, saying, “People have been waiting a long time for this. I think people are stunned with Jaafar’s performance.”

Every The Walking Dead spin-off in the works

by jummy84 October 23, 2025
written by jummy84

The Walking Dead may have come to an end in 2022 after eleven seasons, but the franchise continues to live on through various spin-offs.

Based on the comic series by Robert Kirkman, The Walking Dead TV universe spans seven live-action shows in total, between sequels, prequels and anthology shows.

Some of these spin-offs have already come to an end, including Fear The Walking Dead, which spanned seven seasons, the teen-orientated The Walking Dead: World Beyond, and the one-off miniseries The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live.

Several shows, however, are still ongoing, so here’s a rundown of all The Walking Dead spin-offs in development.

Maggie and Negan’s spin-off was the first sequel series to The Walking Dead, which sees Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan reprise their roles.

After the show’s second season concluded in June 2025, a third season was announced a month later. Production is set to begin in Boston, Massachusetts in autumn 2025, with Seth Hoffman joining as the new showrunner.

“I’m excited to have the chance to dive back into The Walking Dead universe and work to deliver another dynamic season’s worth of stories to this epic franchise,” Hoffman said.

“It’s a true honor to chart out the next chapter for Maggie and Negan’s iconic adventures in Dead City. Lauren, Jeffrey and Scott [Gimple] are incredible creative partners and I’m thrilled to collaborate with them to bring this story to life.”

The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon season 4

Norman Reedus and Melissa McBride return as Daryl and Carol respectively in this sequel series, which takes the post-apocalyptic drama to Europe.

AMC announced the show would return for a fourth and final season earlier this year, which will span eight episodes. Production is set to begin in autumn 2025 in Spain.

Speaking about the final run of episodes, Reedus said: “Daryl Dixon has been an incredible journey. I thank each and every fan who has joined us on this ride. It’s been a privilege to build this story for these characters, and we have so much gratitude for how it’s been embraced.

“Your love and support have made every moment worth it. This finale isn’t just an ending; it’s a celebration of what we’ve all shared together. Keep carrying that love forward — Daryl’s journey is far from over.”

More Tales From The Walking Dead Universe

Back in 2023, AMC announced a new short-form spin-off with the working title, More Tales From The Walking Dead Universe. The show was pitched as a continuation of the anthology series, Tales Of The Walking Dead, which would be overseen by Scott Gimple.

There has been no word since about the spin-off, so it’s unclear if it is still in development.

Mitchells vs Machines 2 in Works at Sony Animation, Netflix

by jummy84 October 22, 2025
written by jummy84

The Mitchells and the machines are readying for a rematch.

Sony Pictures Animation is making a sequel to its 2021 Oscar-nominated feature “The Mitchells vs. the Machines,” with Guillermo Martinez (head of story for the first “Mitchells” film) and JP Sans (co-director of “The Bad Guys 2”) signing on to direct, marking Martinez’s directorial debut. Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin (“The Great North”), known professionally as the Molyneux sisters, are writing the screenplay. Production is expected to begin in early 2026.

As with the original, Netflix will distribute the “Mitchells” sequel as part of a licensing agreement with Sony. The first film was initially slated to be released by Sony Pictures in 2020 after the title was changed to “Connected,” but following delays due to the COVID pandemic, Netflix picked up the film (under its original title) for reportedly more than $100 million. The studios are planning a more collaborative partnership on the second “Mitchells” movie. (Sony’s recent animated feature “KPop Demon Hunters” landed at Netflix under a separate output deal with the streamer; it’s now Netflix’s most-watched movie ever and the companies are in talks for a sequel.)

“The Mitchells vs. the Machines” follows the titular family as they drive their eldest daughter, Katie (Abbi Jacobson), across the country to film school in California. While en route, a rogue AI called PAL (Olivia Colman) commanders an army of robots to launch a worldwide rebellion against humanity. It’s up to the Mitchells — including Katie’s technophobic father, Rick (Danny McBride), overly sweet mother, Linda (Maya Rudolph) and hyperactive younger brother, Aaron (Mike Rianda) — to save the day. The film won wide praise for its hand-painted animation style, won eight Annie Awards, including for animated feature, and was nominated for best animated feature at the Oscars.

Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are producing through their company Lord Miller, and Kurt Albrecht is producing for Sony Pictures Animation. Rianda, who co-wrote and directed the original, is an executive producer, along with Lord Miller’s Aditya Sood.

Martinez started out on the 2019 Laika production “Missing Link”; after serving as head of story on the first “Mitchells vs. Machines” film, he worked on 2023’s “Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse” and on “KPop Demon Hunters.”

Prior to co-directing 2025’s “The Bad Guys 2” with Pierre Perifel, Sans worked as an animator on several DreamWorks Animation films, including “Ruby Gillman: Teenage Kraken,” “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish” and “Trolls World Tour.”

Wordle Game Show Hosted by Savannah Guthrie in the Works at NBC

by jummy84 October 7, 2025
written by jummy84

A game show based on the popular New York Times puzzle Wordle is in development at NBC, with Today anchor Savannah Guthrie set to host.

The project comes from Universal Television Alternative Studio and Jimmy Fallon’s Electric Hot Dog company. The Times is also a production partner. Fallon, who has talked about his love of Wordle a number of times on The Tonight Show, will be an executive producer. (Guthrie has also talked about her obsessive love for the game.)

Wordle, which the Times acquired in 2022 and logs billions of plays from the paper’s games site annually, gives players six tries to guess a five-letter word, revealing only if letters are in the right place (via a green background) or part of the word but in the wrong place (with a gold background).

Should it go forward, the Wordle show would join another Fallon-produced game show, Password, on NBC’s unscripted roster. The Tonight Show emcee also executive produces and hosts the network’s On Brand, a competition series that revolves around advertising and marketing.

Guthrie has a bit of game show experience herself, having served as a guest host on Jeopardy! in 2021 following the death of Alex Trebek. In addition to Today, Guthrie also co-hosts NBC’s annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade coverage.

Immaculate Grid Game Show in the Works

by jummy84 October 2, 2025
written by jummy84

One of the internet’s premier forums for remembering some guys is looking to move into television.

Religion of Sports, the production company founded by Gotham Chopra and NFL greats Tom Brady and Michael Strahan, is developing a game show based on Immaculate Grid, the online trivia game hosted by Sports Reference. The project is in its early stages and doesn’t have an outlet attached yet.

Created by software developer Brian Minter and purchased by Sports Reference in July 2023, Immaculate Grid is a daily game in which players fill in a 3×3 grid based on certain criteria along each axis (say, played for the Dodgers and had a 100-RBI season). The original version of the game covered only baseball, but there are now grids for men’s and women’s basketball, football, hockey and soccer as well.

“Immaculate Grid is the online game to play if you’re a serious sports fan. It’s very challenging and very addictive.” said Victor Buhler, senior vp development and production at Religion of Sports. “We believe the game can also become a terrific show, a future favorite for sports fans of every stripe.”

The Immaculate Grid game show will look to bring sports fans, athletes and celebrities together as they try to piece together a perfect grid.

“Our mission at Sports Reference is to help our users better enjoy and understand the sports they love. Religion of Sports is a perfect partner in that mission, as we’ve found a lot of common ground in our shared interest in the deeper context of sports,” said Sports Reference founder and president Sean Forman. “Immaculate Grid has become a daily ritual for so many people, and our collaboration represents a major step in its evolution. We’re excited to work with Religion of Sports to expand the Immaculate Grid brand from the online space to a new television audience.”

Religon of Sports has produced ESPN’s In the Arena series, Netflix’s Simone Biles Rising and Prime Video’s Built in Birmingham: Brady & the Blues, among other titles.

Gunna Confirms Joint Album w/ Offset Is In The Works

Ready for a joint #Gunna and Offset project?

Gunna announced at Apple Music’s One Night Only event that a collaborative album with Offset is “definitely” in the works, following solo albums from both artists. Gunna released The Last Wun on August 8, and #Offset dropped Kiari a few weeks later on the 22nd.

Continuing, Gunna said, “Yes, it’s in the works. But I, like, we spacing it out. You know, he dropped his album, I dropped my album. I was on his, he was on mine. And I feel like that was sprinkles and breadcrumbs for us to give you that meal soon.”

When should Gunna and Offset drop?

Patrick Shiroishi Knows How Memory Works

by jummy84 September 20, 2025
written by jummy84

As a member of the hardcore outfit the Armed and the atmospheric jazz collective Fuubutsushi, Patrick Shiroishi has proven that he can handle both aggressive thrash and evocative ambience with finesse. For his latest solo project, he balances both, and creates something fraught and angry, yet strangely serene.

Forgetting Is Violent begins with a voice speaking in Japanese. Other voices join the speaker, forming an overlapping chorus. “To protect our family names,” at first reflective, grows more urgent and insistent, one narrative turning into a litany of laments. Shiroishi enters with a rapid-fire series of chromatic high notes, all texture and tension, highlighting the rising tide of distress. Shiroishi’s sax increases with the number of voices, his frantic lines replicating, doubling and piling on top of each other via loops and delay, a method that avoids the cookie-cutter neatness of overdubs. The voices continue, but in the background, as if over a distant loudspeaker. A menacing, monolithic rumble enters, courtesy of guitar from Aaron Turner, of heavy titans Sumac and Isis. The guitar expands, obliterating the voices, but the song, instead of growing more frantic, takes shape, with a gentle but stubborn sustained tone working its way out of the chaos.

This tone vaults us into the next track, a quiet, brooding meditation that moves in slow exhalations. Shiroishi changes his atonal hummingbird attack of the album’s first few minutes for a simple four-note melody that moves with a soothing regularity. Bolstered by guitar feedback and echoey tremolo from Turner and Gemma Thompson (Savages), “Mountains that take wing” has an immense tenderness that only increases as the guitars grow stickier and more commanding. There’s feral noise here, just as there is in “To protect our family names,” but now it’s controlled and tempered. By juxtaposing such slabs of heaviness with gestural slivers of grace, Shiroishi creates a complex narrative that feels simple, telling a powerful story in hints and implications that never overpower his eerily visceral music.

Vocals and dialogue suggest themes without spelling them out. A song titled “…what does anyone want but to feel a little more free?” opens with a sample of someone intoning, “The world equals wilderness equals darkness equals death.” Another voice, again sounding like a loudspeaker but closer this time, speaks of “unhappy sojourners in a world of woes and wants,” while Shiroishi plays a hesitant series of warped, flutelike notes. Hymnlike vocals from Faith Coloccia set up a spoken-word section from Shiroishi’s aunt, recalling her childhood experiences with racism. Meanwhile, the song “There is no moment in my life in which this is not happening” features an incantatory call to prayer or a funeral lament, accompanied by a spectral drone and what sounds like the rattling of old teeth in a dead jaw. Toward the end, a guttural, ghostly croak manifests, and what began as a sacred ceremony now seems like an eldritch rite.

Shiroishi dials it back during the album’s second half, with a suite of four tracks held together by the sound of surf, a steady drone, solemn foghorn notes, and keening vocals. These wispy moans should sound doleful or dreary, but instead they possess a mystical illumination, like wordless koans discharged into the deep. By the time some truly gnarly guitar feedback from Mat Ball (Big Brave) arrives in the final track, what began as a descent into the maelstrom has become a testament to tranquility. If forgetting is violent, Shiroishi’s aggressive act of remembering can bring its own brutal solace.
