Rishab Shetty recalls working as office boy, producer’s driver in Mumbai: ‘Kabhi socha nahi tha yahan tak aaunga’

Rishab Shetty, known for Kantara, reflected on his journey from driver to director during a press meet for Kantara Chapter 1, emphasising gratitude for success.

Kannada star Rishab Shetty gained nationwide recognition with his 2022 film Kantara, and is now all set to entertain audiences with his upcoming pan-India project, Kantara Chapter 1. However, his journey to success was not without obstacles. Recently, the makers held a press meet in Mumbai, attended by the film’s cast. During the event, Rishab recalled how he once worked as a driver in Mumbai before becoming a director.

Rishab Shetty recalls working as an office boy.

When Rishab Shetty used to work as a driver

Rishab expressed gratitude for the love he has received over the years for his films and said, “Mumbai is very special for me because in 2008, Andheri West mein ek production house ka office boy tha main, ek producer ka driver tha. Toh hum soch sakte, cinema kya kar sakta hai. Ek film karke itna reputation, love, blessing mila, aisa socha bhi nahi tha. Us cinema production house ki road par vada pav khate waqt kabhi soch bhi nahi sakta tha ki yahan tak aaunga. Bohot bohot abhaari hoon main (I used to be an office boy at a production house in Andheri West and a producer’s driver. So you can imagine what cinema can do. I never even thought that making one film would bring me so much reputation, love, and blessings. While eating vada pav on the road near that production house, I could never have imagined I would come this far. I am extremely grateful).”

Recently, the makers of Kantara Chapter 1 had planned a pre-release event in Chennai. However, following the tragic stampede during Tamil actor Vijay’s rally in Karur, Tamil Nadu, the event was cancelled. The film’s production house, Hombale Films, issued an official statement, “In view of the recent unfortunate incident, we have decided to cancel our Kantara: Chapter 1 promotional event scheduled in Chennai tomorrow. We believe this is a time for reflection and solidarity with those affected. Our deepest condolences and prayers are with the families impacted. We are grateful for your understanding and support, and we look forward to meeting our audience in Tamil Nadu at a more appropriate time.”

About Kantara Chapter 1

Directed by Rishab Shetty, the film is a prequel to the 2022 hit Kantara. The story delves deeper into the origins of the mythological tradition and ancestral conflict introduced in the first film. Alongside Rishab in the lead role, the film also stars Rukmini Vasanth, Jayaram, and Gulshan Devaiah in key roles. It is scheduled for release in cinemas on 2 October, where it will clash with Varun Dhawan, Janhvi Kapoor, Sanya Malhotra, and Rohit Saraf’s Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari.

Chase Infiniti on Working with Leonardo DiCaprio. Regina Hall and More

by jummy84 September 27, 2025
written by jummy84

Chase Infiniti is living the dream she never fully believed would come true.

The 24-year-old Indianapolis native makes her feature debut in Paul Thomas Anderson’s “One Battle After Another,” stepping into the role of Willa Ferguson, a teenager caught between family legacy and personal identity when a group of ex-revolutionaries reunite to rescue her after an enemy resurfaces 16 years later.

“It’s half Paul and half me,” Infiniti says of Willa’s character. “Half of her comes from his writing, and the other half I brought from my own life and experiences.”

Infiniti’s path to Anderson’s sprawling militia epic wasn’t straightforward. Raised in Indianapolis, she studied musical theater at Columbia College in Chicago. Despite her passion, she didn’t land many roles in college productions, instead finding opportunities in summer stock and community theaters. “I never thought this would happen. I would’ve been happy with even one line in a movie,” she says, recalling her early dreams.

Infiniti introduces herself to Hollywood, and the rest of the cinema loving world on the season 12 premiere of the Variety Awards Circuit Podcast. Listen below.

Her name, a mash-up of Nicole Kidman’s Chase Meridian from “Batman Forever” and Pixar’s “Toy Story,” feels oddly prophetic for an actor now stepping into Hollywood’s spotlight.

In “One Battle After Another,” Willa is no stock teenager. With a purple belt in martial arts and a razor-sharp sense of agency, she emerges as one of Anderson’s most compelling young protagonists. “She’s assertive, but not pretentious. She’s hopeful. I think she represents the possibility of a better future,” Infiniti explains.

Infiniti prepared for the role by traveling with Anderson and Leonardo DiCaprio (who plays her father) to Eureka, Calif. “Meeting people in that town helped me lock Willa in. I noticed how communities interacted, and that grounded her for me.”

Infiniti shares the screen with DiCaprio, Regina Hall, Teyana Taylor and two-time Oscar winner Sean Penn. A key sequence with Penn, in which Willa undergoes a tense DNA test, became a lesson in restraint and reactive acting. “It felt like sparring,” she describes. “He’s intimidating, but Paul [Thomas Anderson] encouraged us to lean into that raw, natural reaction. It was exhilarating.”

Infiniti is particularly effusive in her admiration for both Hall and Taylor during our sitdown. Speaking about Taylor’s performance, she said she was “so amazing” in bringing the character of Perfidia to life, making her “even more colorful” than what appeared on the page.

When it came to Hall, Infiniti emphasized how much strength and subtlety she brought to the role of Deandra. “Deandra is a quiet character in a sense, but she’s not quiet,” she asserts. “She really is the most central force of strength that’s in the film, and she does a fantastic job of almost honing in every character and being a mother to Willa — a mother that she never got to have.”

Despite the starry company, Infiniti admits she’s still adjusting. “Half of me thought I could be here, half of me thought I couldn’t. I had no industry connections, no on-camera work before this. Paul literally hired me without seeing my first job,” she says. “Now I’m on this press tour and it’s surreal.”

Infiniti’s real-life parents, meanwhile, are taking it all in. “My mom cries every time she sees the trailer. There’s a shot of Lockjaw holding Willa’s baby picture and she always says, ‘That’s my baby.’”

Though she’s only just arrived, Infiniti is already dreaming of future roles. She’d love to work with Greta Gerwig or Steven Spielberg — and she’s vocal about her passion for movie musicals. “If they ever adapt ‘Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812’ into a film, I don’t even need to book it. I just want to be seen for Natasha,” she declares.

As for advice to her younger self, Infiniti borrows wisdom passed down to her: “You have nothing to prove, but everything to show.”

PVR’s Aamer Bijli says animated films are working at box office as they are no longer considered ‘kids’ cartoons’

by jummy84 September 25, 2025
written by jummy84

It has been a great year for animation in India. Animated features have broken the glass ceiling when it comes to box office collections in the country. International studios and franchises are tailoring their films to the country in some cases. This boom has largely been the result of a shift in how audiences perceive animated storytelling, believes PVR’s Aamer Bijli.

PVR’s Aamer Bijli talks about the state of animation in India ahead of the release of Shin Chan: Spicy Kasukabe Dancers.

In conversation with Hindustan Times, Aamer touches upon the success of some animated films at the box office, and also how the upcoming Shin Chan film can take it forward.

Why animation is suddenly working in India

Aamer Bijli, Lead Specialist – Innovation, Film Marketing, and Digital Programming at PVR INOX, has been an anime fan for years now. Hence, he is quick to praise the box office success of Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle. The anime has minted ₹65 crore in India. The previous record for an anime in the country was ₹9 crore.

Bijli says, “I think animation has been synonymous in India, especially with cartoons, for a very long time, which has really aided in limiting its acceptance, unfortunately. I was a massive fan of Pokémon, Beyblade, and Dragon Ball growing up. What I have realised is that the initial nostalgia really helps now. There are a lot of parents who are doubling down on that nostalgia by making their children watch all of these things for the first time. I think it’s only creating a newer and larger audience.”

But it’s not just anime that has succeeded in India recently. Mythological epic Mahavatar Narsimha exceeded all expectations by grossing over ₹300 crore worldwide, 10 times as much as any Indian animated film had made prior to that. Talking about its success, Bijli adds, “Mahavatar Narima relied on our roots. It embedded mythology with philosophical insights, and it also resonated with the collective identity of a story that we’re already familiar with. All of this drew the audiences to the cinemas.”

The Shin Chan movie’s India setting

In this climate, the Japanese animated film, Shin Chan: Spicy Kasukabe Dancers, is releasing in India. Shin Chan already enjoys a sizable fan base in India. And on top of that, this film sees the beloved character travel to India. Is the Indian setting a nod to the country’s growing popularity as a market for animation? “I’ve been asked that question a lot,” says Bijli, adding, “I feel that would be an honour if they thought to set something in India consciously. It sure seems like it from the trailer that it is a show specifically done for India. I think it also makes sense considering Shin Chan is one of India’s most-watched international animated IPs, and has an extreme nostalgia-driven loyalty amongst millennials and young adults. So I wouldn’t be surprised.”

You know the different markets I think different horses for different courses right there are a lot of films that do extremely well in the US that don’t translate as well in India and and you know we face it all the time in our distribution business where we bet on films certain you know that that we believe will perform really really well uh in the Indian market due to the trickle down effect from Hollywood but unfortunately that’s not always the case. So I just think that the consumer base is so different sometimes uh that um it doesn’t always translate directly.

Shin Chan: Spicy Kasukabe Dancers is being presented in India by PVR INOX Pictures in association with Japan’s TV Asahi. The film releases in India this Friday, September 26.

Yard Act are working on their third album with former Nine Inch Nails and Beck bassist Justin Meldal-Johnsen

by jummy84 September 22, 2025
written by jummy84

Yard Act have revealed that they are currently in the studio working on their third album with producer Justin Meldal-Johnsen.

The Leeds band released their second record ‘Where’s My Utopia?’ in March 2024 and have been touring steadily in the time since, but now they have confirmed that they are working in Nave Studio in their hometown on their next LP.

Posting on Instagram this week, they wrote: “Hello from @nave_studios, where we’re making the greatest third album any band has ever recorded, with our new pal @justinmeldaljohnsen.”

They also made reference to BBC Radio 6 Music’s ‘T-Shirt Day’ celebration of vintage artist tees, showing off their respective Kurt Vile, Bad Brains, Napalm Death, Nuha Ruby Ra and Bill Nelson t-shirts. “YALP3 will be the sweet spot between Napalm Death and Bill Nelson,” they quipped.

Yard Act co-produced ‘Where’s My Utopia?’ with Remi Kabaka Jr, who is best known as the drummer and producer for Gorillaz, but as they have revealed, this time around they are working alongside Meldal-Johnsen.

The American musician and producer served as the musical director for Beck from 1996 until 2016 and played as a touring bassist, guitarist and keyboardist for Nine Inch Nails in 2008 and 2009. He has also worked as a musical director for St. Vincent since 2021 and in 2023, he resumed touring with Beck.

As a producer, he has worked on a number of high profile projects, including M83’s ‘Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming’ (2011), Wolf Alice’s ‘Visions Of A Life’ (2017), Deafheaven’s ‘Infinite Granite’ (2021) and St. Vincent’s ‘All Born Screaming’ (2024).

Before the end of the year, Yard Act will serve as the opening act on The Hives’ UK and European tour, which kicks off in Oslo on October 17 and includes shows in Cardiff, Glasgow, Manchester and London at the end of November. See the full list of dates here and find any remaining tickets here.

In a four-star review of ‘Where’s My Utopia?’, NME wrote: “In between samples from their comedy pals – standups Nish Kumar and Rose Matafeo – and references to all sorts of uniquely British phenomena: from ‘Fizzy Fish’ to Calpol and, er, Milton Keynes. Where’s My Utopia?’ marks an outlandish yet assertive second chapter for Yard Act, going toe-to-toe with the peculiar world that we find ourselves in.”

Is ‘What Happens at Night’ What Martin Scorsese Is Working on Next?

by jummy84 September 19, 2025
written by jummy84

There have probably been five or six “next projects” that Martin Scorsese has been reported to be directing after he did “Killers of the Flower Moon” in 2023, but this one may finally have some real legs to it.

Scorsese has committed to directing “What Happens at Night,” which is a creepy ghost story adaptation of a 2020 book by Peter Cameron, an individual with knowledge of the project told IndieWire. Leonardo DiCaprio, naturally, would be starring in the film alongside Jennifer Lawrence. Apple Original Films is also circling the project, with an eye to finance and produce it alongside Studiocanal, which developed the script.

'Depeche Mode: M'

What makes “What Happens at Night” seem like this really is the next one is that there’s a pretty-soon start date of January being eyed (though wouldn’t Leo be in the midst of an Oscar campaign for “One Battle After Another?”). Apple though also has first look deals with Scorsese’s Sikelia production banner and DiCaprio’s Appian Way, so the reunion after “Killers of the Flower Moon” makes sense.

It also has a script! Patrick Marber (“Closer,” “Notes on a Scandal”) wrote it, with Studiocanal developing it since 2023, way back when Scorsese at that point was just interested in producing. The story has some serious “The Shining” meets “Shutter Island” vibes about a couple who travels to Europe and checks in at a mysterious hotel to adopt a child, only to see that nothing is as it seems and as the wife of the couple is ill with a cancer diagnosis.

But let’s not forget that Scorsese has been kicking around several projects since “Flower Moon” that all made just as much plausible sense. There was a “Sinatra” biopic we’ve been hearing about forever, and that one would’ve also starred DiCaprio and Lawrence as Ava Gardner. There was a report of a crime drama set in Hawaii that would’ve starred Dwayne Johnson. There was “The Life of Jesus,” which was paused for script revisions. Apple was also reportedly circling another Scorsese/DiCaprio project that would’ve been based on the “Gilead” series of books. And we were also told that another long-gestating project that has changed a ton of hands, “The Devil and the White City,” was being revived at 20th Century with, you guessed it, DiCaprio attached again. We know he’ll pick up the phone anytime Marty calls. This would be their 7th movie together.

DiCaprio for what its worth has also been attached to a ton of projects, with no clear indication of what his next would be. Damien Chazelle wanted to do an Evel Knievel biopic, and that may have finally fallen through.

Lawrence meanwhile starred in Lynne Ramsay’s “Die, My Love” that premiered at Cannes and was acquired by MUBI, and she’s also been circling a couple of A24 films as well.

Whatever Scorsese does direct next, let’s hope it’s soon for the 82-year-old legend.

Deadline first reported the news.

Working With Women Is “Very Simple”

Dunst caught up with Refinery29 while walking the carpet at the 50th Toronto International Film Festival for her latest film Roofman, alongside co-star Channing Tatum. The movie, which had its world premiere at the festival and is set to be released in theatres on October 10, follows the real-life story of Jeffrey Manchester (played by Tatum), a former US military veteran who was incarcerated for robbing a 45 McDonald’s in the mid-2000s. Now on the run after escaping from prison, Manchester holes up in a local Toys R’ Us for several months. Dunst plays Leigh, his blissfully unaware love interest and one of the store’s employees. The movie is already receiving praise for its “considerable star charm,” powered by the believable chemistry between Dunst and Tatum, who play two 40-something single parents trying to navigate the complexities of life and love amidst real-life pressures (with, you know, some added criminality on the side).

Alia Bhatt on co-parenting Raha with Ranbir Kapoor while working together in Love and War: ‘It does take a village’ | Bollywood

Managing parenting while co-starring, Alia Bhatt discusses the challenges and joys of working with husband Ranbir Kapoor.

Alia Bhatt is no stranger to balancing a hectic film schedule with family life, especially when working alongside her husband, Ranbir Kapoor. In a recent interview with Grazia, Alia opened up about how the couple has been managing parenting duties while co-starring in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love and War without letting their roles as actors or parents take a backseat.

Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt welcomed daughter Raha in 2022.

Alia talks about co-parenting with Ranbir

“It sounds cheesy, but there are no cons to this—only pros,” Alia said candidly when asked about working with her husband. The only real challenge, she explained, is managing their daughter Raha’s schedule. “We’ve shot most of the film at night, so we’re usually with her during the day. There are days he’s shooting, days I am. We’re not always on set together,” she added.

The actor also revealed that Raha has occasionally accompanied them to work and seems to enjoy being on set. She also acknowledged the support system around her. “She’s got a very busy life herself with classes, playdates, grandparents, and activities. It does take a village, in a sense, and I feel very grateful for all my loved ones and the privilege that I have with this support system,” she said.

Alia’s upcoming projects

Alongside her personal milestones, Alia Bhatt has an exciting slate of upcoming films. She is set to headline Alpha, an action-packed thriller directed by Shiv Rawail. In it, she plays a high-ranking officer in a fictional all-female combat unit under YRF’s Spy Universe. The film promises a gritty and intense portrayal of Alia in a never-before-seen avatar.

She is also reuniting with husband Ranbir and director Sanjay Leela Bhansali for Love and War, a period romantic drama starring Vicky Kaushal. The film marks Alia and Ranbir’s second collaboration after Brahmāstra, and expectations are already sky-high.

Did Katrina Kaif Reject A Movie With Prabhas?
Bollywood

She Didn’t Think Working With Him Was Worth…

Was Katrina Kaif The First Choice For Saaho Alongside Prabhas? (Photo Credit – Instagram)

After the massive success of Baahubali 2, Prabhas struggled with some underperformers. But Kalki, 2898 AD, has turned the tables, and how! Many wouldn’t know, but our Darling star wanted to work with Bollywood actress Katrina Kaif, but she allegedly rejected the offers. Scroll below for an interesting throwback.

In 2019, Prabhas collaborated with Shraddha Kapoor for the action thriller, Saaho. The movie starred multiple actors from South and Bollywood, including Chunky Pandey, Jackie Shroff, Arun Vijay, Neil Nitin Mukesh, Lal, Murali Sharma, Mandira Bedi, and Mahesh Manjrekar, among others. Despite mixed reviews, the film was a hit affair with box office collections of 149 crores.

Rumors once broke that Katrina Kaif was the first choice to play the leading lady in Saaho. But the actress allegedly made the producers chase her for six long months before rejecting the Prabhas starrer.

Katrina Allegedly Rejected Saaho

A source close to Deccan Chronicle had revealed, “Katrina Kaif is not in Saaho. She could’ve been part of it, as we had chased her for six months. This was before the release of Baahubali 2, when she didn’t think working with Prabhas was worth her while. So, after pursuing her for six months, we gave up on the idea of signing her for the movie.”

The insider also accused Katrina‘s team of spreading rumors to gain publicity since Baahubali 2 had worked way better than expected at the box office.

Kat has never addressed the rumors. Some other reports also claim that she wanted to be part of the project but decided to support Salman Khan instead, who was struggling in Bharat due to Priyanka Chopra Jonas’s sudden exit. There remains no confirmation of this, either!

What’s Next For Prabhas?

On the work front, Prabhas has an exciting slate of upcoming movies, including a sequel to the sci-fi film Kalki 2898 AD directed by Nag Ashwin. He will also be next seen in Spirit and The Raja Saab.
