Actors Kareena Kapoor, Rishab Shetty, Varun Dhawan, Suniel Shetty, Manoj Bajpayee and Arjun Rampal, among others, cheered after India pulled off a record chase to storm into the Women’s World Cup final with a five-wicket win over defending champions Australia. The semi-final match between India and Australia was played at Navi Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium on Thursday.

Team India found fans in Kareena Kapoor and Rishab Shetty after they defeated Australia to enter the Women’s World Cup final.

Celebrities cheer for Team India

Taking to her Instagram Stories, Kareena shared pictures from the match and wrote, “And like I said, girls can do it all. Into the finals! Pure heart, grit and class from our women in blue. Chasing 339, the highest in women’s ODI history. A moment that lifts the game and pushes women’s cricket forward in a big way.”

“Hats off to the entire team, and especially @jemimahrodrigues for that calm century under pressure. Well led by captain @imharmanpreet_kaur, with solid support from @richa9105, @officialdeeptisharma & @amanojotkaur in key moments. Proud of Team India. Wishing them the best of luck for the finals!” he added.

India beat Australia in semi final

Australia put up a mammoth total of 338 while batting first in the second semifinal of the ongoing Women’s World Cup. In response, India, led by Jemimah Rodrigues’ unbeaten century, reached the target with 9 balls and 5 wickets to spare. This is the biggest chase in women’s ODI history and the biggest overall in a World Cup knockout match for both men and women’s cricket.

After defeating Australia, India will clash with South Africa in the final on Sunday, November 2 , in Navi Mumbai.

Bollywood star Kareena Kapoor Khan took some time out of her busy schedule to meet and cheer the Indian Women’s Cricket Team ahead of their high-profile semifinal clash against Australia Women. The actress, full of charm and elegance, brought that extra dose of encouragement and positivity to the team as they prepared for one of their biggest games of this tournament.

Dressed in a chic casual outfit, Kareena interacted warmly with the players, applauding their recent performances and expressing her pride in how far women’s cricket in India has come. Photos and videos from the interaction quickly went viral on social media, showing Kareena sharing laughs and motivational words with the players. Fans praised the actress for supporting women in sports and called her visit “a perfect morale boost” for the Women in Blue.

Kareena, who spoke on the occasion, said she was deeply inspired by the journey and spirit of the team. “These women are breaking barriers and inspiring millions across the country. It’s an absolute honour to meet them and wish them all the luck for the semi-finals,” she shared.

The Indian Women’s team, led by skipper Harmanpreet Kaur, is in scintillating form in the ongoing tournament and has qualified for the semifinals based on their brilliant display throughout this tournament so far. This game against Australia Women, considered one of the powerhouses of world cricket, will be an exciting contest.

Paige Bueckers Will Reportedly Star in a Movie About a Women’s Basketball Rivalry

by jummy84 October 30, 2025
written by jummy84

Paige Bueckers’ off-season is heating up—and we’re not just talking about the WNBA superstar’s upcoming debut in Unrivaled, the player-owned three-on-three league based in Miami.

On October 29, Deadline reported that the 2025 WNBA Rookie of the Year is set to star in Jess & Pearl, a sports movie developed by Apple Original Films. Though Apple did not comment on the report, Deadline’s sources claim the project is “set in the world of women’s basketball” and based off an original idea by Scandal writer and producer Zahir McGhee. Bueckers will reportedly serve as an executive producer as well.

Here’s everything we know about Paige Bueckers’ upcoming Hollywood debut.

The WNBA Needs Every One of These Faces

As the internet argued over the “face of the league,” the women of the WNBA were coming together to fight for fair pay and a say in their future. These five athletes—and 2025 Glamour Women of the Year—represent the real draw of the WNBA: its players.

What is Jess & Pearl?

So far, all we have is this brief description provided by Deadline: “Set in the world of women’s basketball, the film follows two phenoms who forge an extraordinary bond as teammates until fame, competition, and the ruthless business of college athletics threaten to turn their friendship into an epic rivalry.”

When is Jess & Pearl coming out?

So far, no release date has been set or announced.

Who is involved behind-the-scenes?

UConn alum and Dallas Wings guard Paige Bueckers will reportedly serve as an executive producer, while David Bernad (The White Lotus) has reportedly signed on to produce the project through his company, Middle Child Pictures. Lindsay Kagawa Colas, who recently served as executive producer on a documentary about WNBA legend Sue Bird, is allegedly on board to produce alongside producer Tommy Alter.

Who else is in the cast?

So far, no other names have been released, but I’m personally pulling for Bueckers’ fellow WNBA superstar Angel Reese, who recently made her own feature film debut in A House of Dynamite on Netflix. You know, right before she made her Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show runway debut as the first pro-athlete Victoria’s Secret Angel.

Though she only had a small role in the film, Reese told People she plans to continue acting and even hire an acting coach. “I was talking to Common—he’s overseas right now shooting season 2 of Silo—and he was telling me, ‘You got to hire an acting coach,” she said at A House of Dynamite’s New York Film Festival premiere on September 28. “I model already, so it’s like adding to the résumé. I’m young right now, so I’m going to do it while I’m young.”

Their happy pace: A shadow lifts from women’s sprinting

by jummy84 October 11, 2025
written by jummy84

Track is sport in its purest form. No rotating orb to smash through a net like in football; no mastering the tools like in golf; no hurling projectiles at each other like in tennis or badminton; no judging the swing through the air or deviation off the surface like in cricket; no harnessing the machine like in Formula 1; no inherent violence like in boxing or wrestling. Instead, it’s one pair of legs simply striving to outrun another over a designated distance in a scintillating battle of strength, grit and technique.

At the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo last month, the US’s Melissa Jefferson-Wooden won the 100m and 200m with margins of victory that were Bolt-like: 0.15 seconds and 0.46 seconds respectively. (AP)

Within track, the sprints are the most unadulterated expression of human excellence.

They don’t need guile like the middle-distance races do; nor do they call for the fine balance between pace and endurance that the marathon exemplifies. The sprints are raw pace, unbridled power, and a visceral desire to hit the tape faster than the next person while holding nothing back over 10, 20 or 40 seconds. The starting gun sounds like a suggestion in the longer races, a signal in the middle distances, and a call to arms in the sprints.

But sprinting has long battled the most-dreaded D-word in sport: doping.

On the men’s side, Michael Johnson changed the paradigm in the 400m in the 1990s, dominating the field and obliterating the world record to lift the cloud over the previous decade, when dope allegations flew thick and fast. In the 100m and the 200m, Usain Bolt’s arrival in the Aughts pulverised the past in a manner that only the greatest athlete ever could have.

Meanwhile, women’s sprinting was unable to shake off the real and perceived injustices of history. The 100m and 200m world records have been held by the American Florence Griffith-Joyner since 1988, and the 400m record by the German Marita Koch since 1985. Neither athlete ever failed a dope test, but suspicions have lingered about the use of performance-enhancing drugs that were not detectable at the time. Their records, fair or foul, are marked by invisible asterisks that women’s athletics has desperately wanted to erase.

The only way to do that is to go faster. And the wait may soon be over.

BRAVE NEW WORLD

It was a windy February day in 2001. In Dunbar, population 600, a census town in Georgetown County, South Carolina, preachers Melvin Jefferson and Johanna Jefferson welcomed a sixth child into their family. They called her Melissa.

At just five weeks old, baby Melissa underwent surgery to pump out curdled formula from her stomach. When she was 17, she donated stem cells to her father, who was suffering from myelodysplastic syndrome, after the hospital waitlist did not throw up any suitable candidates for a transplant.

Eighteen months before Melissa Jefferson was born, in the summer of 1999, the borough of Dullen, population 7,600, in Middlesex County, New Jersey, was graced by the arrival of its newest resident. With less than a year to go for the 2000 Summer Olympics, former track stars Willie McLaughlin and Mary McLaughlin called their third daughter Sydney.

Sydney McLoughlin’s early troubles were more within than without. As a young athlete, she constantly sought validation, beating herself up any time she felt she hadn’t done well enough. Battling these demons, she turned to the Christian gospel and emerged track-ready again.

Sydney McLaughlin-Lavrone’s 400m at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo was the second-fastest in history, within two-tenths of a second of the time set by Koch 40 years ago.
Sydney McLaughlin-Lavrone’s 400m at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo was the second-fastest in history, within two-tenths of a second of the time set by Koch 40 years ago.

This September, over the course of a week at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo, Melissa Jefferson-Wooden and Sydney McLaughlin-Lavrone, now 24 and 26 years old, their double-barrelled surnames underlining their marital statuses, were crowned the queens of modern sprinting.

Jefferson-Wooden is the first woman since the Jamaican Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce in 2013 to win the 100-200 sprint double at the Worlds. Her margins of victory in Tokyo were Bolt-like: 0.15 seconds in the 100m and 0.46 seconds in the 200m. Her timings were the fourth (100m) and eighth (200m) fastest ever recorded.

McLaughlin-Lavrone, the world’s pre-eminent 400m hurdler for the past five years — she has set or broken the world record six times since 2021 and won gold medals in both the Tokyo and Paris Olympics — inexplicably decided to switch to the 400-flat earlier this year. Her run at the Worlds was the second-fastest in history, within two-tenths of a second of the time set by Koch 40 years ago.

And so, through these two champions, born six seasons and 700 miles apart, the suspicious gap with the Dirty ’80s was narrowed at long last.

Though the Jamaican trio of Elaine Thomson-Herah, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce and Shericka Jackson pushed closer and closer to the 100m and 200m marks over the past decade, and the Frenchwoman Marie Jose-Perec got within 0.65 seconds of the 400m record in the late 1990s, the final step has proved elusive.

It was fitting that Fraser-Pryce, now 38, finished sixth when Jefferson-Wooden won the 100m gold at the Worlds to complete the passing of the baton. In the 400m final, McLaughlin-Lavronne’s winning time of 47.78 was just 0.2 seconds faster than that of the Dominican Republic’s Mariliedy Paulino, who won silver but ran the third-fastest 400m ever.

The sign of a simultaneous revolution across the three sprints is here at last. At Tokyo 2025, Jefferson-Wooden and McLaughlin-Lavronne infused new life into women’s athletics. It feels, and not a moment too soon, like we’re closer than ever to finally moving on.

bitchy | Princess Kate didn’t go to the women’s Rugby World Cup final & England won

by jummy84 September 28, 2025
written by jummy84

For the past month, the Women’s Rugby World Cup has been played across stadiums in England. The Princess of Wales, patron of England’s men’s and women’s national rugby teams, has only been to one match during the month-long tournament. Her husband, who is patron of the Welsh national rugby teams, has also only been to one match this month. They went to separate matches on the same day so they wouldn’t have to attend another event together. While the Welsh women didn’t do so great in the World Cup, England’s Red Roses battled their way to the final. And guess what? They WON! Another English women’s team winning a major championship! You would expect their royal patron to be there, at the World Cup-winning match, right? Well, Kate couldn’t be bothered. She sent them a good-luck tweet before the final

Good luck England! 🌹🤠 Wishing the very best of luck to the @RedRosesRugby in their Women’s Rugby World Cup Final at Twickenham today. We’re so proud of you! C pic.twitter.com/AqoVN1FUKP

— The Prince and Princess of Wales (@KensingtonRoyal) September 27, 2025

And that was it. This match was in LONDON, at the Allianz Stadium. The final got historic crowds for women’s rugby. There’s a huge boom for women’s rugby right now following some amazing matches at last year’s Paris Olympics. Meaning, there’s never been more interest in the sport, and it would have been amazing for England’s Red Roses to have their royal patron there, cheering them on AT HOME. Like, Prince William was lazy as hell and sexist as hell for not flying to Australia to support the Lionesses in the Women’s World Cup final in 2023, but at least you could say “well, it would have taken a lot of time and effort to fly to Australia last-minute.” William still should have done it, don’t get me wrong. But it’s absolutely insane that Kate was too f–king lazy to go to London for this major moment in women’s rugby, women’s sports and English sports. Kate literally had ONE day of work last week. This happened on a Saturday too, there was no school run to divide her precious attention. But hey, she tweeted her congratulations after the match. She didn’t sign it “-C” so the message was done by staff.

Congratulations to @RedRosesRugby, the new Women’s Rugby World Cup Champions! 🏆🏉

Well done to Canada – you had an outstanding tournament. Both teams should be so proud! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 🇨🇦 https://t.co/O0Wg2rdUUb

24 Womens Fall Jackets | Leather, Trench, Puffer, Barn

Whether you want something to throw on for early-morning dog walks or a more buttoned-up (excuse the pun) style for work or evening plans, there’s a topper out there for everyone. Consider the trusty denim jacket, trench coat, or leather jacket… or more on-trend barn jackets and seasonal suede jackets. And as it gets colder, think of coats made from wool, fleece, and puffer materials as well as styles with scarf details for extra coverage and warmth.

Man Utd v SK Brann Women’s Champions League qualifier TV channel, live stream, kick-off time

The task is clear for Manchester United on Thursday evening – overturn a one-goal deficit in the second leg of their qualifier against SK Brann and reach the Women’s Champions League for the first time in their history.

Marc Skinner’s side are back at Leigh Sports Village after falling to a 1-0 defeat away at the Norwegian champions last week. The Red Devils were made to pay for not converting any of their plentiful chances when Ingrid Østervold Stenevik headed in the winner midway through the second half.

Sunday’s 5-1 thrashing of the London City Lionesses, which leaves Man Utd top of the Women’s Super League, will provide a timely confidence boost for the hosts ahead of Thursday’s decider.

The Red Devils finished third in the WSL last term and have already beaten both PSV Eindhoven and Hammarby IF in qualifying but are now at risk of falling at the final hurdle, which would at least mean a place in the inaugural season of the Women’s Europa League.

RadioTimes.com has rounded up everything you need to know about how to watch Man Utd v SK Brann on TV and online.
