The Continent is on the brink of a greater war as Netflix’s The Witcher returns for season 4 on October 30, 2025. Following the shocking conclusion of the last season, Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri are now separated from each other, having been forced on dangerous journeys through a broken world. The season will introduce Liam Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivia after Henry Cavill left the series. Hemsworth’s arrival has already divided many fans, but showrunner Lauren Schmidt Hissrich said the new direction will invigorate the ongoing saga, according to Netflix’s Tudum.

A continent at war

Season 4 adapts Andrzej Sapkowski’s Baptism of Fire, The Tower of the Swallow, and Lady of the Lake. Each character faces their own battles: Geralt leads a ragtag fellowship known as the ‘hansa’, Yennefer rallies rival mages to confront a looming threat, and Ciri hides among the outlaw group called the Rats.

Fans can expect brutal on-screen combat, Geralt clashing with a terrifying wrath, and poignant reunion scenes as the characters fight for survival.

Liam Hemsworth takes the mantle

Liam Hemsworth, most famous for The Hunger Games, goes for a more action-driven take on Geralt. He has undergone sword and sign training to truly capture what it is to be the White Wolf. Hissrich stated that Hemsworth wanted to put more humor into the role, to even out Geralt’s brooding side with moments of lightheartedness.

Returning stars and fan favorites

Anya Chalotra returns as Yennefer, now stepping into leadership and uniting a divided mage community.

Freya Allan plays Ciri, hardened and rebellious, hiding under the alias of “Falka” with the Rats.

Joey Batey returns as Jaskier, Geralt’s steadfast bard companion, bringing humor and heart amidst the dangers.

Other well-known faces include Mahesh Jadu (Vilgefortz), Eamon Farren (Cahir), Anna Shaffer (Triss Merigold), Graham McTavish (Dijkstra), and Mimî M. Khayisa (Fringilla).

Powerful new additions

Season 4 introduces mighty new players. Laurence Fishburne is Regis, a higher vampire of great wisdom and many secrets, who faces Geralt himself. Sharlto Copley is Leo Bonhart, a mercenary without conscience patrolling after the Rats and Ciri.

James Purefoy appears as Stefan Skellen, Nilfgaard’s ruthless spymaster. With these additions, the stakes for Geralt’s hansa and Ciri’s future have never been higher.

According to Tudum, Hissrich teased that no soul remains untouched by the war. Loyalties will change, alliances will be broken, and enemies will be born in code places. “It’s about family, but it’s also about the armies and friends that we choose,” she said.

Straight from the Valley of Plenty, The Witcher Season 4 is coming your way. According to a new Netflix teaser, the fantasy drama will return on Thursday, October 30.

The teaser also shows Geralt of Rivia — now played by Liam Hemsworth, taking over for Henry Cavill — luring a wraith into a deadly duel. “With these words, your mortal shell / Shall meet my fate in fiery hell,” he says, summoning the dangerous spirit.

In a flash, the wraith emerges and knocks Geralt to the ground, but it’s not long before our White Wolf gets the upper hand…

As for the rest of Season 4’s action, Netflix has this to say: “After the Continent-altering events of Season 3, Geralt, Yennefer [Anya Chalotra], and Ciri [Freya Allan] find themselves separated by a raging war and countless enemies. As their paths diverge and their goals sharpen, they encounter unexpected allies eager to join their journeys. The Witcher’s fourth and fifth season — which Netflix shot back-to-back — will also finish the TV series. And fans already know that Laurence Fishburne has joined the cast in the role of Regis, a mysterious and world-wise barber-surgeon who joins Geralt on his journey.

Netflix has released the first footage (below) introducing Liam Hemsworth taking over the fantasy drama’s role for the show’s fourth season. This marks the first video of The Hunger Games star as the grim monster slayer following Henry Cavill’s announcement that he was departed the role three years ago. For his part, Hemsworth has said he is “over the moon” to be stepping in as Geralt of Rivia. “Henry Cavill has been an incredible Geralt, and I’m honoured that he’s handing me the reins and allowing me to take up the White Wolf’s blades for the next chapter of his adventure,” Hemsworth’s statement read. “Henry, I’ve been a fan of yours for years and was inspired by what you brought to this beloved character. I may have some big boots to fill, but I’m truly excited to be stepping into The Witcher world.”

In The Hollywood Reporter’s cover story with Cavill from November 2021, Cavill said he planned to follow through with The Witcher series through at least seven seasons. “Absolutely,” Cavill said at the time. “As long as we can keep telling great stories which honor Sapkowski’s work.”

Cavill is currently working on another sword-swinging epic, a remake of Highlander, though a recent injury has caused the production to be pushed to 2026.
