What’s The Real Reason Behind Alpha’s Delay? Alia Bhatt And Sharvari’s Film Gets A New Release Date | Glamsham.com

The much-anticipated Yash Raj Films’ action entertainer Alpha, headlined by Alia Bhatt and Sharvari Wagh, has been pushed to 2026. The film was supposed to hit theatres this Christmas in 2025 but will now release on April 17, 2026, confirms YRF. For the studio, it all boils down to making sure that the visual scale of the film matches the extremely ambitious standards set for their Spy Universe franchise.

“Alpha is an extremely special film for us, and we want to present the film in its most cinematic self. We realised that the VFX will take a little longer than expected. We want to leave no stone unturned to make Alpha a theatrical experience for everyone to cherish. Thus, we will now release the film on April 17, 2026,” said a YRF spokesperson.

Industry trackers also said the delay was a creative call and not a strategic one. “The VFX team was under a lot of pressure to meet unrealistic deadlines,” said a top trade source. “There’s a lot of work pending, and the makers didn’t want to compromise on quality. The move isn’t because of the crowded release window from Avatar to January 2026 — it’s about giving the film the time it deserves.”

Alpha represents a landmark for YRF’s Spy Universe, being the first-ever women-led spy thriller in the franchise, joining blockbusters like War, Pathaan, and Tiger 3. After the success of YRF’s Saiyaara and a lukewarm reception from War 2, expectations are high with Alpha to bring life back into the cinematic universe. Reports suggest that the head of YRF, Aditya Chopra, has personally stepped in to oversee the progress of the film and ensure that Alpha lives up to the level and finesse in storytelling that the audience expects.

Their first hint at Alpha came via the post-credit scene in War 2, which featured a surprise appearance by Bobby Deol. In the scene, his character stamps a mysterious logo onto the hand of a young girl, explaining that it’s the mark of Alpha — “the first, the fastest, the strongest.”

The scene sparked speculation that the girl might be a younger version of Alia Bhatt’s character. Rumors are rife that Bobby Deol essays the film’s main antagonist-a mentor-turned-nemesis figure to Alia’s spy. With a premise that sounds this enticing and a cast this bold, Alpha could be one of the biggest and most innovative projects ever attempted by YRF.

Sameer Wankhede’s Scathing Attack On ‘The Bads Of Bollywood’ – What’s Going On?! | Glamsham.com

by jummy84 November 1, 2025
written by jummy84

IRS officer and former NCB Mumbai Zonal Director Sameer Wankhede has accused Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan and his production company Red Chillies Entertainment of launching a “calculated hit job” against him through their Netflix web series The Bads of Bollywood. The controversy stems from Wankhede’s claim that the show’s portrayal of a government officer is a deliberate caricature designed to tarnish his image, following the high-profile 2021 cruise ship drug case involving Shah Rukh Khan’s son, Aryan Khan.

In a response filed before the Delhi High Court, Wankhede dismissed Red Chillies Entertainment’s argument that the series is merely a satire. He described it instead as a “sleazeball attempt” to malign his reputation and credibility. “The character of a government officer depicted in the series was deliberately modeled on me,” Wankhede asserted, noting what he called “striking similarities” in the character’s appearance, speech, and even the use of his signature phrase, Satyamev Jayate.

According to Wankhede, the content of the show constitutes a “premeditated and malicious campaign” to ridicule and ruin his professional and personal life. “The defendants cannot take the convenient veil of satire or artistic expression to justify a malicious act,” he said, urging action from the court on the defamatory content.

On the other hand, Red Chillies Entertainment has categorically denied all allegations. The studio maintains that The Bads of Bollywood is a situational satire that explores the absurdities of celebrity culture, media frenzy, and the public’s perception of law enforcement in India. “The series is a work of fiction inspired by real-world events but does not target or defame any real individual,” the company said in its official response.

The production house further argued that Wankhede’s claims are “wholly misconceived and devoid of value.” It warned that the removal of the contested scenes could disrupt the series’ creative and narrative integrity. Red Chillies also emphasized that Wankhede was already a public figure and “a subject of extensive public commentary” before the release of the show, implying that the series did not create or amplify any new controversy about him.

Operating at the intersection of artistic freedom and defamation, the case continues to unfold in the Delhi High Court, with neither side budging from their respective positions.

Is ‘CBS Saturday Morning’ Canceled? What’s Going on at Paramount – Hollywood Life

The last week of October 2025 proved to be a difficult one for the entire Paramount Global team amid its merger with Skydance Media. Layoffs and shocking departures plagued the team, and after a report regarding Gayle King‘s future with CBS Mornings came out, a separate report surfaced about CBS Saturday Morning with co-hosts Michelle Miller and Dana Jacobson, leaving viewers wondering if the show had been canceled.

Read on to find out what’s going on with CBS Saturday Morning.

Is CBS Saturday Morning Canceled?

No, CBS Saturday Morning has not been canceled by the network, but there will be changes to the staffing, The New York Post reported on October 29, 2025. According to the outlet, sources close to the matter claimed that CBS News’ new editor-in-chief, Bari Weiss, and the network’s president, Tom Cibrowski, determined that CBS Saturday Morning was “too expensive” and that Dana and Michelle would need to leave.

Where Will Michelle Miller & Dana Jacobson Go After CBS?

Since Michelle and Dana have yet to comment on their apparent departure from CBS Saturday Morning, it’s unclear where the co-hosts will go next. NYP reported that Michelle and Dana were informed that they would be released due to the network’s “radical revamp.”

Is Gayle King Leaving CBS Mornings?

No, Gayle is not planning on leaving CBS Mornings, despite a report from Variety citing multiple sources familiar with the situation that she would leave the network once her contract expires in 2026.

“I am here and glad to be here,” Gayle clarified to TMZ on October 31, 2025. “I don’t know what to tell you about it, but what I am hearing in the building is not what I’m reading in the press, and what I’m not going to do is negotiate in the media. … All I have been told by everybody in this building is that they want me here.”

Gayle added that, as far as she knows, CBS “likes the job [she is] doing” and continued, “I’ll say this: I like the job, and the people that I work with, so I don’t know what to tell you.”

After the report came out, a spokesperson for CBS News said that the network has had “no discussions” with Gayle regarding her contract.

“There have been no discussions with Gayle about her contract that runs through May 2026,” the spokesperson said. “She’s a truly valued part of CBS, and we look forward to engaging with her about the future.”

The Internet Is OBSESSED With Alia Bhatt’s Gangubai – What’s Behind The Hype?! | Glamsham.com

Alia Bhatt’s powerhouse performance in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Gangubai Kathiawadi won her widespread acclaim, multiple awards, and solidified her place as one of Bollywood’s most versatile actors. However, not everyone seems convinced. A recent Reddit thread has sparked a heated debate over whether Alia truly captured the essence of the real-life Kamathipura matriarch or if her portrayal was, as some users claim, “overrated.”

The discussion began when a user questioned if Bhatt’s youthful looks and soft demeanor made her a believable fit for the fierce, commanding figure of Gangubai Kothewali, the powerful brothel madam and social reformer from Mumbai’s red-light district. “Alia looks like a kid playing dress-up in an older woman’s world,” one commenter wrote. “Her baby-faced innocence makes it hard to believe she could command fear or authority.”

Others echoed the sentiment, suggesting that while the Raazi star excelled in emotional scenes, she lacked the physical presence and gravitas the role required. “It’s not just about looks,” one Redditor argued. “She simply doesn’t have the weight to convince us she’s ruling a male-dominated criminal underworld.” Critics on the thread pointed out that Bhatt’s real-life age and gentle persona may have worked against her in fully embodying a hardened woman who fought against patriarchy and political corruption in mid-20th century Mumbai.

Yet, Bhatt’s supporters quickly came to her defense, calling the backlash unfair and highlighting the nuance in her performance. Many praised how she balanced vulnerability and power, crediting Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s direction for helping her deliver one of her most mature roles yet. “Alia completely transformed into Gangubai,” one fan wrote. “Her confidence, her dialogue delivery, and her emotional range were phenomenal. You can’t take your eyes off her.”

The viral thread has since reignited the age-old debate about authentic casting and artistic interpretation in biographical films. Should actors physically resemble the real-life figures they portray, or should performance alone determine success?

Stuck between the online divide or not, Gangubai Kathiawadi will remain a defining moment in the career of Alia Bhatt. Oasis: (What’s the Story) Morning Glory? (30th Anniversary Deluxe Edition) Album Review

by jummy84 November 1, 2025
written by jummy84

You might have heard, but Britpop’s greatest group returned this year in a blaze of summer-dominating, triumphal glory. Plus, easily missed, Oasis got back together, too.

Odd as it is to say now, Live ’25 wasn’t a nailed-on success. Questions swirled: Would the irascible brothers keep their egos and fratricidal instincts in check? Could they swerve notoriety for playing so slowly that the life drains out of even the most committed loyalist? Any chance the setlist might show proof of their existence past 2002? (Yes, yes, no.) Demand for the tour was insane, some 14 million trying for the UK dates alone, a nearly 600 percent leap on 1996’s immortalised pair of Knebworth shows.

Once the ticker tape from the opener in Cardiff confirmed that they were not just in decent form, but had actually exceeded all expectations, a funny kind of tremor swept Anglophiles the world over, like the aftershock of a bliss nuke. With tabloids and legacy music media fixated on tracking the brothers’ every move, even a brief pat on the back sent people doollally. Out went strappy tops and cigs, in came bucket hats and more cigs, as Planet Gallagher blotted out the sun. And lo, just in case you thought they hadn’t raked in enough cash already, here arrives the 30th anniversary edition of (What’s the Story?) Morning Glory, a reissue of a reissue of a reissue. You may not like it, but this is what Peak Oasis looks like.

As the world’s most ardent proponents of Lennonism, the only comparison Liam and Noel will brook these days is against their idols. So let’s begin there. Socially, in 2025, Oasis are bigger than the Beatles. Chalk it up to heavy competition in the ’60s, or a total collapse of aesthetic progression since the ’90s, but you can only tackle the void in front of you, and Oasis did so with brutal efficiency. If you cup your ear today to the ballad of the pub man, you won’t find gents in collarless grey suits harmonizing “Day Tripper” at closing time. What you will find, however, is middle-aged men greying around the temples and young lovers with live forever inked in cursive on their calves, arm in arm, belting one of modern rock’n’roll’s universal standards: “Champagne Supernova,” “Wonderwall,” “Don’t Look Back in Anger,” or, plausibly, all of the above.

The Girlfriend Trailer: Rashmika Mandanna Questions Her Relationship With Dheekshith Shetty – What’s Going On? | Glamsham.com

written by jummy84

Following her serious role in the vampire suspense thriller Thamma, Rashmika Mandanna is turning to a world of love, emotional depth, and self-discovery in her next movie, The Girlfriend. The Saturday release of the trailer suggests a complicated love story in which Rashmika’s character is torn by a haunting question: is she indeed deeply in love with her boyfriend, or only in love with the concept of him? Directed by Rahul Ravindran, the movie features Rashmika in the starring role alongside Dheekshith Shetty.

The trailer begins with Bhooma, played by Rashmika, hesitantly proposing a “small break” to her boyfriend Vikram, played by Dheekshith, making it clear that she means an actual break and not a halt. The romantic origin of the couple is then portrayed in the story, with Vikram asking Bhooma to marry him, convincing her that she is the ideal partner for him. While the couple enjoy playful and flirtatious moments, such as banter like “you kissed last night,” their tone progressively becomes tension and doubt.

The audience is shown the dynamics of their relationship through arguments, family pressures, and emotional struggles, as Bhooma starts questioning not just her feelings but also what it means to be a “girlfriend.” The trailer guarantees a combination of romance, drama, and self-awareness, highlighting Rashmika’s versatility in playing lighthearted as well as emotionally charged scenes.

The teaser released last year had Vijay Deverakonda’s voiceover, admiring the charm of the heroine as Rashmika’s character walks into college with her bag. The entire movie is coming to theaters on November 7, 2025, and is sure to investigate love, uncertainty, and emotional complexity in present relationships through Rashmika’s powerful performance.

Hi Twinkle Khanna, What

Hi Twinkle Khanna, Now That You’ve Made A Section Of Mard Samaaj Feel It’s Okay To ‘Sneak Around & Cheat’; What’s Next, Polygamy? [Opinion]

by jummy84 October 24, 2025

Twinkle Khanna’s Opinion About Infidelity Is Bizarre! (Photo Credit – YouTube)

Twinkle Khanna and Kajol almost broke the internet when they hosted Salman Khan and Aamir Khan on the premiere of their chat show Two Much with Kajol & Twinkle. However, the latest epin infidelity, with Twinkle Khanna dismissing it as Raat Gayi Baat Gayi (just like Ranbir & Deepika decided What happens in Corsica, stays in Corsica!) However, in my opinion, this wasn’t just a difference of opinion, it was such a disappointing and careless display of one’s moral and emotional standards.

While Janhvi Kapoor, the youngest and arguably the most grounded person in the room, held her stance that ‘the deal is already broken‘ once you physically cheat in a relationship, Twinkle dismissed her thoughts by questioning her age and suggesting she would eventually have an opinion once shsode of the show featured Karan Johar and Janhvi Kapoor, and it has blown a discussion out of proportion – a casual, cool, almost breezy justification of physical infidelity in long-term marriages.

During the episode, Twinkle Khanna, Kajol, and Karan Johar unanimously declared that emotional cheating is far worse than gaining wisdom! Now, this is the most bizarre statement I have come across during this weird conversation!

While I might agree to disagree that this topic might have too many subjective opinions, and it is eventually one’s personal choice when it comes to infidelity, age has nothing to do with this. I mean, if a woman is okay with physical infidelity in her 50s, she might be okay with Polygamy in her 70s and tell me that I would agree to Polygamy when I turn 70! Sounds bizarre? So did Twinkle Khanna’s age card!

Raat Gayi, Baat Gayi Is Such A Red Flag Term!

While this was a very casual conversation where Karan Johar said, ‘Thand lag jaati hai’ and even Kajol agreed that emotional cheating is worse, I echo with what Janhvi argued – we cannot compare which is worse, and both are wrong! Setting up a notion that a physical hook-up is merely a mistake, a one-night stand to be precise, is such a dangerous narrative. It is the breach of trust that is the foundation of any relationship! And Raat Gayi Baat Gayi is such a casual way to greenlight the audacity of men who are ready to change ‘flavors’ at their convenience!

The Green Light for the ‘Mard Samaaj’

Also, if Twinkle Khanna needs to dissect this further, it clearly means loyalty is negotiable, and no, Ma’am, loyalty is never negotiable! Cheating is not negotiable! Taking your partner for granted is not negotiable! Coming from a woman, this normalizes the disrespect that women receive already in a patriarchal society from their male chauvinist partners!

The true definition of a successful, mature relationship is not how much betrayal you learn to swallow, but how strongly you maintain the boundaries that protect your dignity. If physical betrayal is no longer a deal-breaker, how low does the bar go before we realize we are not maintaining a marriage, but merely cohabiting in a societal arrangement?

So, no, Mrs Funnybones, let us not normalize infidelity, and let us keep cheating a non-negotiable parameter in a relationship. Please cool baniye, cold nahi!

Karan Johar’s Ozempic Rumors Get A Twinkle Khanna Makeover: ‘Itna Injection Mat Liya Kar’ – What’s The Truth? | Glamsham.com

Director Karan Johar has once again demonstrated that no one can beat his sense of humor combined with candor. On Twinkle Khanna and Kajol’s talk show Two Much, Karan finally broke his silence on the ongoing gossip regarding his sudden weight loss — and did so with his characteristic sense of humor.

The internet has been buzzing about Karan’s makeover for months, with many congratulating his healthier appearance and others speculating that he had been using Ozempic, a diabetes medication now trending for speeding up weight loss. Putting the speculation to rest, Karan joked about the rumors at the beginning of the episode. When Twinkle jokingly referred to him about the opulent buffet arranged for him, he retorted, *”But if you read anything on the internet, they think I don’t eat because I am on chemical substances — like Ozempic!

Twinkle played along, teasing him further: “Beta, itna injection mat liya kar! Itna dubla ho gaya hai. Mummy kya bolegi?” (Son, stop taking so many injections! You’ve become so thin. What will your mother say?). Laughing, Karan replied, “Mummy bechari kuch nahi bolti aajkal.” (My poor mother doesn’t say anything these days).

As the three approached the food table, Karan appeared visibly tickled at the number of dishes laid out. “I haven’t seen so many carbs in a while,” he stammered before joyfully spotting his favorite — katsu curry. Co-guest Janhvi Kapoor chipped in as well, revealing her comfort food of preference was paya curry.

Karan’s physical make-over has been extensively debated ever since 2024, with the director attributing his fitness regime to discipline, rigorous diet, and regular exercise. Even after his explanations, the internet gossip regarding weight-loss shots never really dissipated — until his tongue-in-cheek on-air acceptance brought the buzz full circle.

The episode also included one of Karan’s signature raw moments. In a lighthearted “Truth or Lie” segment, Janhvi dared him to tell a juicy truth and a lie. Without batting an eyelid, Karan said, “I lost my virginity when I was 26 years old, and I’ve been intimately involved with a member of your family.”

The comment left Janhvi speechless and Twinkle and Kajol laughing out loud. A few seconds later, Karan explained, “I was late to that party — that part is true — but I have not been intimate with any member of your family. Though the thought has crossed my mind a couple of times!”

With his signature blend of self-deprecating humor and frank candor, Karan Johar again converted gossip into humor — demonstrating that there’s no controversy too big when dealt with a grin.

What’s Going on With Rachael Ray? How She’s Doing Amid ‘Sick’ Rumors – Hollywood Life

Rachael Ray has steadily made her way back into the television spotlight recently, but rumors have swirled around her lifestyle and health after she slurred her words in a September 2024 video. The clip sparked concern among fans and, according to one report, her inner circle. Now that she joined Drew Barrymore for a talk show return, fans are wondering what Rachael is up to today.

Hollywood Life has the latest update on what Rachael’s been up to below.

Where Has Rachael Ray Been? Inside Her Life Now

The Food Network alum is still in the public eye. Most recently, Rachael visited The Drew Barrymore Show to cook alongside the talk show host and actress in an upcoming October 2025 episode. Not only that, but Rachael also came to New York City to co-host the Blue Moon Burger Bash 2.0 with Brooklyn Beckham at the New York Wine & Food Festival later Friday.

Is Rachael Ray Sick?

No, Rachael has not revealed any major health issues or illnesses recently. However, she did suffer from a “couple of bad falls” while carrying wood for a fire, she said in October 2024, which temporarily restrained her from a few physical abilities.

Nevertheless, Daily Mail reported in May 2025 that Rachael’s inner circle was “concerned” about her after a late 2024 video of her slurring her speech raised eyebrows.

“Those close to Rachael are so concerned,” a source told the outlet. “She has shut people out and lives a very secluded life.”

Is Rachael Ray Still Married to Her Husband?

Yes, Rachael is still married to her husband, John Cusimano. The couple wed in 2005 and have been together since.

In October 2025, Rachael gave fans an update about her and John’s marriage during an interview with Us Weekly. She quipped that he enjoys New York City more than she does.

“My husband loves being in New York. And I tell him, ‘Hey, go as often as you like, stay as long as you want,’” Rachael told the outlet. “I come to New York and upstate New York when I have work, I prefer Italy. It’s quiet. The dog is much happier. She hates New York City. Bella is not a New Yorker at all. So, for the dog’s sake, I spend as much time [in Italy] as I can. She has a swimming pool and 66 hectares to run around on, and everything is very quiet, and the air is very fresh, and we have huge gardens and a vineyard and olive trees, and I just prefer that life.”

What’s Next for the Scariest Brand in the Business?

by jummy84 October 16, 2025
written by jummy84

Sam Zimmerman is known for his impeccable and calculating taste. But as Shudder‘s senior vice president of programming and acquisitions, the 37-year-old horror movie devotee still takes care to hunt from the heart. An authentic genre film buff — who knows truly scary storytelling is at the core of Shudder‘s success and subscriber base — Zimmerman has been with AMC Networks’ beloved streaming service since it started more than a decade ago.

“Independent horror will always be just a little bit ahead of the game,” he told IndieWire in a recent conversation about the future of fear in film. “We’re showing you something you didn’t expect to see, pushing you further than you expected to go, and making you just a little more unnerved. We’re provoking you, then making you really think about what you’re watching.”

Dwayne Johnson and Benny Safdie

The cult-hit horror platform has been toasting its 10th birthday with a seemingly endless list of events and activations in 2025. From a Shudder-themed parade in New Orleans to a tattoo shop in New York, the year-long party is proof of the brand’s dazzling approach to community.

“If we’re going to put ourselves out there and say that Shudder is defined by its programming, then we should put ourselves and our filmmakers at the forefront,” said Zimmerman. “You should feel like you can reach out, touch us, and talk to us. Horror is a conversation.”

(Left to right): ‘Dangerous Animals,’ ‘Good Boy,’ ‘Clown in a Cornfield’ (2025)

An ideal backdrop to roll out yet another winning slate, which includes acquired titles as well as movies Shudder helped make, the birthday campaign has accompanied some of the service’s biggest hits to date. That includes the theatrical release of Ben Leonberg’s “Good Boy,” presently entering its third weekend in theaters and still holding strong at the box office. The canine caper is the second-highest-grossing release from Shudder, trailing “Late Night with the Devil” from last year.

For Halloween, Zimmerman is back to manning Shudder’s annual recommendations hotline, but the service was equally busy entertaining fans over the summer. Sean Byrne’s shark-infested “Dangerous Animals” screened for select audiences on real boats, and Eli Craig’s smash hit “Clown in a Cornfield” played early at drive-ins before opening nationwide through RLJE Films.” That’s a subtle nod to George A. Romero, who showed his 1968 feature debut “Night of the Living Dead” — a shoestring zombie flick that broke convention in every sense — on the vehicular circuit, too.

Sam Zimmerman, SVP of programming and acquisitions at Shudder

“His spirit was fiercely independent, and if you look at classic and contemporary horror, the divide was ‘Night of the Living Dead,’” said Zimmerman. “The film kicked off what contemporary horror [style] is — something that’s more naturalistic, gorier, grittier, bleaker. And that production was the definition of independent and regional. It was a group of 10 people who decided to do it themselves with the money they’d made from their own advertising business.”

Romero stayed independent in his process and philosophy, even as his filmmaking career grew. Horror experts like Zimmerman know all too well how that hurt the legendary director’s bottom line, but Shudder’s decade of success with serious horror fans proves that the Father of Zombies’ earnest approach still works as a modern business model. Zimmerman also cites 1974’s “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” as essential genre foundation, and watching his own company excel, the programmer looks to major studio releases with palpable indie spirits (think “The Exorcist” or “Rosemary’s Baby”) for inspiration when finding new filmmakers for Shudder.

“People might peg ‘Clown in a Cornfield’ as a studio-style horror movie because it’s pretty broad leaning, but I think [director Eli Craig] and [novel author Adam Cesare] have a truly skillful sensibility to what they do,” said Zimmerman. “They land their gags and their kills. Even if you call it a ‘teen slasher,’ it goes a lot further than most teen slashers. It’s what we wish teen slashers would do, and that’s imbuing more of that independent sensibility into their film.”

NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD, Duane Jones, 1968
Duan Jones in George A. Romero’s ‘Night of the Living Dead’ (1968)Everett Collection / Everett Collection

If you don’t know Romero’s entire life story, and/or you left your field guide to the best high school horror movie at home, then the web of connection needed to support programming this good sounds daunting. That’s another reason the top brass at Shudder has stayed committed to connecting with fans — even as they’re increasingly recognized as the experts in indie horror.

“It should never feel exclusive,” said Zimmerman. “That’s something I try to say to everyone on the team. The tone should never be, ‘I can’t believe you haven’t seen that!’ It’s got to be, ‘I’m so excited for you to see that.’ That’s the world we want to live in.”

Over the years, Zimmerman has seen countless studio executives and marketing creatives try to peg the typical horror consumer. But growing up in New York City surrounded by millions, Shudder’s friendliest face truly believes, “Someone who loves horror doesn’t look one way.”

“When I get to have conversations with people outside of the industry — people who say, ‘I’m a mom!’ or ‘I’m a nurse!’ and ‘I just love horror movies so much!’ — that is really heartening to me,” said Zimmerman. “We always wanted Shudder to be a place where everyone found something scary to watch… and it is so important to me that our movies are scary. That might seem obvious, but it’s really not.”

Assessing global trends across genre acquisitions, Zimmerman argues we’re in the middle of a renaissance for J-Horror. See Yûta Shimotsu’s “Best Wishes to All,” also released by Shudder this year.

'Best Wishes to All' (2025) and 'The Queen of Black Magic' (2019)
(Left to right): ‘Best Wishes to All’ (2025) and ‘The Queen of Black Magic’ (2019)

Zimmerman was born in 1988, and his generation gets to make many of the tide-turning business decisions for U.S. horror. Discovering the genre through Americanized versions of Japanese masterworks, millennials explored world cinema largely through comparison. In 2025, Shudder is stoking that discussion with their ongoing love of Asian horror.

“We’ve been working on this contemporary wave of Indonesian horror ever since ‘Satan’s Slaves’ in 2017,” said Zimmerman. “It’s very nervy and stylish. We did ‘The Queen of Black Magic’ in 2019, and it’s one of my favorite movies that Shudder has ever released because it feels so perfectly creepy, crawly, icky, scary — just ideal when you’re making a horror movie.”

Shudder has worked with Indonesian writer/director Joko Anwar ever since, and searching for fresh scares on the social media side, Zimmerman considers this July’s “House on Eden” an important step in establishing a lasting relationship between internet creators and the broader indie film scene. Directed and written by TikToker Kris Collins, who stars alongside Celina Myers (another familiar face from the app), the new found-footage film cost just $10,000 to make.

“That’s another kind of authenticity test,” said Zimmerman. “Kris and Celina are so successful in their domain and in the creator world of TikTok. They have such a wide audience already, and they didn’t have to do this movie. But they went out and they did it ‘Blair Witch’ style. It was just them in the woods, and they created a film that sets up real scares.”

Although Zimmerman knows plenty of Hollywood folks who get insecure around influencers, he sees the source for new talent as a good thing. “House on Eden” pulled more than $450,000 at the box office for Shudder ahead of YouTuber Chris Stuckmann‘s directorial debut for Neon, out this fall. Horror-heads won’t really be able to look at those two projects side-by-side until “Shelby Oaks” opens, but Zimmerman has never had more faith in doing things the Shudder way.

Asked why the service hasn’t really ventured into the Disney IP-turned-nightmare fuel market (a commercially lucrative arena that’s been a critical bust mostly), Shudder’s lead programmer quipped, “Well, we had ‘The Ugly Stepsister.’” Norwegian filmmaker Emilie Blichfeldt’s dark spin on the “Cinderella” story earned back its budget and opened to solid reviews at Sundance; its acquisition was spearheaded by Shudder’s SVP of Acquisitions and Productions Emily Gotto.

“If you can take a thing that’s recognizable and then take it to a horror space, it is original,” said Zimmerman. “Emilie announced herself with such a bold vision. I’m always excited to see where the new voices are coming from, whether they’re reinvigorating a landscape or introducing us to something completely new.”

That’s another sign of progress for Shudder, which brought the divisive world premiere of Chris Nash’s “In a Violent Nature” to Park City, Utah, last year. Leave it to the guy straddling the divide between big screen events and digital-only releases to use his phone in a theater, but that night Zimmerman recorded audio of the festival audience watching an ultraviolet death scene (posthumously known as “the yoga kill”), and it sounds like a microbudget rollercoaster.

“It’s fun to razz ’em a bit,” said Zimmerman. “Chris made a very skillful film with ‘In a Violent Nature,’ but you also want to bring that type of horror movie to places with an air of prestige. It builds good word of mouth. I don’t think you have to choose really, but when you get the opportunity with a festival like Sundance, you don’t pass it up if you’ve got the right movie.”

Highbrow, lowbrow, and everything in-between, Shudder’s marathon birthday party from 2025 should be remembered like an axe to the forehead. Less “anniversary celebration” and more “frenzied point made repeatedly,” this is the type of big swing you have to take if you want to keep being the definitive best source for emerging films across indie horror.

“Fear unites us in a lot of ways,” said Zimmerman. “The ambition is to keep the genre at the heart, expand within it to bigger and scarier scales, and always retain how we cherish pure independence and movies made on nothing but tenacity. That entire spectrum covers what the horror genre is, and that’s what we have to showcase by continuously expanding our minds.”
