Two more men have been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to murder, in relation to the death of Ian Watkins.

The former Lostprophets frontman – who was serving a 29-year sentence for a string of child sex offences – was fatally injured during an incident at HMP Wakefield in West Yorkshire on the morning of October 11th.

Rashid Gedel, 25, and 43-year-old Samuel Dodsworth have been charged over the killing, and they are on remand awaiting trial, but now two other men, who are aged 23 and 39, have been arrested.

West Yorkshire Police Detective Chief Inspector James Entwistle said: “Extensive enquiries remain ongoing in relation to the murder of Ian Watkins and these arrests form part of that.

“Ian Watkins’ family are being updated as the investigation progresses.

“However, we do not anticipate any immediate developments at this stage.”

The police added that both men are “in police custody and will be interviewed over the course of today, they will then be bailed and returned to prison while enquiries continue”.

An inquest in Watkins’ death is due to open on Friday (24.10.25) at Wakefield Coroner’s Court.

Police and paramedics were called to the prison after the paedophile singer was reportedly ambushed and fatally injured after a knife attack.

Watkins was pronounced dead at the scene.

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: “At 9.39am this morning, police were called by staff at HMP Wakefield reporting an assault on a prisoner. Emergency services attended and the man was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later.

“Detectives from the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team are investigating and inquiries remain ongoing at the scene.”

A Prison Service spokesperson added in a statement: “We are aware of an incident at HMP Wakefield which took place this morning. We are unable to comment further while the police investigate.”

Watkins, 48, was jailed in December 2013 for 29 years after admitting to a string of sex offences – including the attempted rape of a fan’s baby.

The disgraced musician was caught in 2012 following the execution of a drugs warrant at his home in Pontypridd, Wales, where a large number of computers, mobile phones and storage devices were seized by police.

Analysis of the equipment revealed Watkins’ depraved behaviour.

Two men have been charged with the murder of Ian Watkins.

Ian Watkins was killed in prison

The former Lostprophets frontman – who was serving a 29-year sentence for a string of child sex offences – was fatally injured during an incident at HMP Wakefield in West Yorkshire on Saturday (11.10.25) morning and now Rashid Gedel, 25, and 43-year-old Samuel Dodsworth have been charged over the killing.

The pair will appear before Leeds Magistrates’ Court on Monday (13.10.25), West Yorkshire Police have announced.

Prison guards were said to have been unable to “save” the inmate.

A source told The Sun: “Guards were nearby and raced to the scene pretty quickly – but there was nothing they could do, and they could not save him.

“It was a horrific scene, with blood everywhere and alarms and sirens going off.

“Police and ambulances were called and the whole prison was locked down with all cons confined to their cells.”

The Welsh singer had previously been stabbed in an incident at the same prison in 2023 and suffered non life-threatening injuries after reportedly being taken hostage by three other inmates for six hours.

Two men arrested after Lostprophets’ Ian Watkins killed in prison attack

Two men have been arrested following the prison attack that killed the convicted sex offender and former Lostprophets singer Ian Watkins.

Yesterday (October 11), West Yorkshire Police confirmed that Watkins was attacked by a fellow inmate at HMP Wakefield and died from his injuries at the age of 48.

“At 9.39am this morning (Saturday), police were called by staff at HMP Wakefield reporting an assault on a prisoner,” a police statement said. “Emergency services attended and the man was pronounced dead at the scene a short time later. Detectives from the Homicide and Major Enquiry Team are investigating and inquiries remain ongoing at the scene.”

Now, police have confirmed that two men aged 25 and 43 have been arrested on suspicion of murder and are currently being held in police custody. A spokesperson for the Prison Service said they could not comment while the investigation is ongoing.

Watkins was serving a 29-year sentence, with a further six years on licence. He pleaded guilty to 13 sex offences in 2013, including the attempted rape of a baby, conspiring to rape a child, three counts of sexual assault involving children, seven involving taking, making or possessing indecent images of children and one of possessing an extreme pornographic image involving a sex act on an animal.

In 2023, he was attacked and taken hostage by three other inmates, before being found and freed by officers and taken to hospital. It was later reported that Watkins had been stabbed with a “sharpened toilet brush” over a drug debt.

A 2024 book titled Life Behind Bars In The Monster Mansion by Jonathan Levi and Emma French claimed that Watkins had “spent thousands on protection” while in prison, explaining that rough justice is “particularly likely” to be “meted out” to paedophiles in jail.

In 2017, Watkins was reported to have been grooming a mother from his prison cell. The 21-year-old’s child was subsequently taken into care after social services were alerted of her contact with the disgraced singer.

‘We’re sickened,” said a spokesman from the NSPCC at the time. “It’s utterly bewildering that he could carry on grooming. It shows contempt for children he abused, and raises serious questions about supervision.”

At the time, it was said that prison officials in Wakefield reportedly found “nothing untoward” in their exchanges via letters and emails. A spokesman from Lincolnshire police meanwhile added: “We will always take action to safeguard vulnerable adults and children.”

Lostprophets Singer Ian Watkins Dead at 48 After Prison Attack

by jummy84 October 12, 2025
written by jummy84

Lostprophets singer Ian Watkins has died at the age of 48 after he was attacked in prison Saturday, it has been confirmed.

Watkins was serving a 29-year jail term after being convicted of a string of heinous sexual offenses, including crimes against young children and babies at HMP Wakefield, West Yorkshire.

West Yorkshire Police confirmed Watkins’ death and said detectives from the homicide and major inquiry team have begun an investigation after prison staff were called to an assault on a prisoner on Saturday morning and found Watkins dead at the scene.

The details of the attack are yet to be revealed, but Sky News says he was attacked with a knife, while The Sun claims he had his throat slashed after inmates were unlocked from their cells this morning.

Watkins was previously attacked at the jail in August 2023 by three other prisoners, an incident that left him with neck injuries which required hospital treatment. England’s HMP Wakefield is considered one of the country’s most notorious prisons, and dubbed the “Monster Mansion” as its residents include serial killers, murderers and pedophiles.

Watkins was jailed in December 2013 after admitting a string of horrific sex offenses – including the attempted rape of a fan’s baby; a trial judge later said that the charges against Watkins “plumbed new depths of depravity.” (During trial, it was revealed that the password to encrypted files on Watkins’ computer was “I FUK KIDZ.”)

Watkins was initially arrested in September 2012 after police executed a drugs search warrant at his home in Pontypridd and seized a large number of computers, mobile phones and storage devices.

In 2019, Watkins was given 10 additional months in prison after a mobile phone was found in his possession; he argued that he was forced by other prisoners to hold onto the phone. While fighting the charges, Watkins refrained from revealing which prisoners gave him the phone out of fear, saying he was locked up with “murderers, mass murderers, rapists, pedophiles, serial killers – the worst of the worst.”

Watkins founded Lostprophets in 2000, with the Welsh band going on to sell more than 3.4 million albums across the globe with hits such as “Last Train Home” and “Rooftops.” Their last record was 2012’s Weapons, released two months before Watkins’ arrest.

Lostprophets’ Ian Watkins Murdered In U.K. Prison

Former Lostprophets singer Ian Watkins was murdered today (Oct. 11) at HMP Wakefield in West Yorkshire, England, where he was serving a 29-year-sentence for sex offenses. Watkins, who was 48, had been in jail for the past 12 years on 13 horrific charges involving children and animals.

According to West Yorkshire Police, Watkins was attacked with a knife by a person or persons unknown and was pronounced dead at the scene. In 2023, he suffered non-life-threatening injuries after being stabbed and taken hostage by three of his fellow prisoners in an incident that took authorities six hours to resolve.

Welsh rock outfit Lostprophets, which had massive U.K. albums in 2004 with Start Something and two years later with Liberation Transmission, immediately broke up in the wake of Watkins’ original conviction.

“Those who have appeared in these courts over many years see a large number of horrific cases,” said the Hon. Mr Justice John Royce at his sentencing. “This case, however, breaks new ground. I am satisfied that you are a deeply corrupting influence, you are highly manipulative, you are a sexual predator, you are dangerous. The public and, in particular, young females need protection from you.”

Following Watkins’ arrest, the non-singing members of Lostprophets formed the band No Devotion with Thursday frontman Geoff Rickly.
