Upgrade your chia water: NHS surgeon reveals a smart hack to make chia seeds even healthier

Chia seeds have taken the wellness world by storm, with health influencers everywhere urging people to drink chia water for hydration and nutrients. But what if there’s an even smarter way to enjoy these tiny superseeds?

NHS surgeon Dr Karan Rajan suggests a smarter way to consume chia seeds, instead of just soaking them in water. Find out more below!(Unsplash)

Dr Karan Rajan, a UK-based NHS surgeon and health content creator, has revealed the benefits of combining chia seeds with yoghurt – and he claims that it is even better than chia water! In an Instagram video posted on August 13, the surgeon discusses the synergistic health benefits of consuming chia seeds mixed with yogurt rather than water, explaining how the nutrients form a natural symbiotic cycle within the body, helping with absorption, while keeping you full for long durations.

Prebiotics and probiotics

Yoghurt contains live bacterial cultures such as Lactobacillus and Bifidobacteria. Combining yoghurt with chia seeds facilitates a “natural symbiotic effect,” since soluble fibres and mucilage present in chia act as prebiotics for the bacteria in yoghurt. Dr Rajan explains, “Probiotics in the yoghurt have a ready snack to ferment, which can improve short- chain fatty acid production,” which he terms as the “gold dust” for your health.

Nutrient absorption

The nutrients in yoghurt work in a natural synergy with the nutrients in chia seeds, improving their absorption. Dr Rajan states, “the calcium, vitamin D, and fat in the yogurt enhances the absorption of fat soluble compounds in the chia, namely ALA omega-3 fatty acids.”

Appetite regulation

Dr Rajan mentions that appetite regulation is one of the biggest benefits of consuming more fibres. He explains, “When you combine fibre from the chia seeds, and protein and fat from the yoghurt, you get even more satiety signals and even more stimulation of natural fullness hormones like GLP-1, cholecystokinin, PYY, etc.” This helps you feel satiated for longer durations as compared to chia water.

Slower fermentation

Unlike chia water, which can hydrate quickly and ferment too early in the colon – sometimes causing gas – fibres from chia mixed with dairy proteins and peptides from yoghurt undergo a slower, more balanced fermentation process. According to Dr Rajan, “This leads to a wider range of short-chain fatty acids which are produced, like butyrate and propionate,” as compared to chia water, which produces a narrower range of SCFAs due to its early fermentation.

Dietitian shares 5 diabetes-friendly food swaps that actually work: ‘Swap sugary drinks for infused water’

by jummy84 September 17, 2025
written by jummy84

Managing diabetes comes with mindful dietary and lifestyle changes, but that does not mean giving up on all our favourite foods. In an interview with HT Lifestyle, Dr Archana Batra, dietitian said, “It means making smart, delicious swaps that help stabilise blood sugar and improve overall health. These simple changes focus on reducing refined carbohydrates and added sugars while increasing fibre, protein, and healthy fats.” Also read | Diabetologist shares 7 diet tips to keep diabetes, hypertension at bay: ‘Have more protein’

Manage diabetes with these simple tricks.(Pexels)

1. Swap white grains for whole grains:

Instead of white rice, white bread, or regular pasta, choose their whole-grain counterparts like brown rice, quinoa, whole-wheat bread, or millets. The fibre in whole grains slows down the absorption of glucose into the bloodstream, preventing sharp blood sugar spikes. This swap helps you feel fuller for longer and provides essential nutrients.

2. Swap sugary drinks for infused water:

Sugary sodas, juices, and sweetened teas are major culprits behind blood sugar fluctuations. A single glass can contain a massive amount of added sugar. Instead, swap these for water infused with fresh fruits like lemon, berries, or cucumber, or choose unsweetened teas. This provides flavour without the dangerous sugar load. Also, swap fruit juice for whole fruit. Fruit juice has a concentrated sugar content with none of the fibre of whole fruit. That fibre is what slows down sugar absorption. Opt for a whole apple, an orange, or a handful of berries instead. This gives you the full nutritional benefit, including the fibre, making it a much better choice for managing your glucose levels. 3. Swap starchy vegetables for non-starchy vegetables:

While all vegetables are healthy, starchy vegetables like potatoes and corn have a greater impact on blood sugar. Swap these out for a greater portion of non-starchy vegetables like leafy greens, broccoli, cauliflower, or bell peppers. These are low in carbs, high in fibre, and packed with vitamins, making them excellent for a diabetes-friendly diet.

4. Swap processed snacks for nuts and seeds:

Reaching for a bag of chips or crackers can lead to blood sugar swings. Instead, prepare a small handful of nuts (almonds, walnuts) or seeds (chia, flax). These snacks are rich in protein, healthy fats, and fibre, all of which contribute to satiety and help maintain stable blood sugar levels.

5. Swap tea-time snacks like chips and cookies with protein and fibre-rich options:

Instead of reaching for fried chips or sugary cookies, try healthier snacks like carrot and cucumber sticks with hummus, sprouts and pomegranate chaat, or kala chana chaat. These are loaded with fibre, protein, and essential nutrients that keep you full longer and help regulate blood sugar levels. International Trailer for Kristen Stewart’s ‘The Chronology of Water’

“Disappear into your imagination! Nobody’s in the room but you and that pen!” Les Films du Losange in France has revealed the first official trailer for Kristen Stewart’s directorial debut – a new film titled The Chronology of Water, based on the book of the same name. This initially premiered at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival earlier this year, and will next stop by the Vienna & London Film Festivals. No US release date is set yet – it’s expected sometime in early 2026. An Olympic swimming hopeful flees her abusive home via a Texas scholarship. After losing her scholarship to addiction, she studies further under Ken Kesey in Oregon. Through writing, family, and self-discovery, she overcomes her troubled past. Stewart isn’t in the film – she co-wrote and produced and directed it. Imogen Poots stars as a young woman who finds her voice through the written word & her salvation as a swimmer – ultimately becoming a triumphant teacher, mother and a singular modern writer. The full cast includes Thora Birch, Earl Cave, Tom Sturridge, Kim Gordon, & Jim Belushi as iconic novelist Ken Kesey, who mentors Lidia. I did not care for this film – it’s a big mess.

Here’s the first French trailer for Kristen Stewart’s film The Chronology of Water, from YouTube:

Brought up in an environment torn apart by violence and alcohol, Lidia Yuknavitch seemed destined for self-destruction & failure until words offered her unexpected freedom through literature. The Chronology of Water, adapted from Yuknavitch’s autobiographical bestseller, follows Lidia’s journey to find her own voice in an exploration of how trauma can be transformed into art through re-possessing our own bloody histories, particularly those uniquely experienced by bodies of women and girls. The Chronology of Water is directed by acclaimed Americana actress / producer / filmmaker Kristen Stewart, making her feature directorial debut after a few other short films. The screenplay is written by Andy Mingo and Kirsten Stewart, adapted from Lidia Yuknavitch’s memoir of the same name. It’s produced by Ridley Scott, Charles Gillibert, Yulia Zayceva, Max Pavlov, Svetlana Punte, Michael Pruss, Rebecca Feuer, Kristen Stewart, Maggie McLean, Dylan Meyer. This initially premiered at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival earlier this year. The film opens first in France on October 15th, 2025 this fall, then in select US theaters starting January 2026. Nutritionist shares 5 hydration hacks beyond plain water: Coconut water to buttermilk

by jummy84 September 6, 2025

There’s a popular notion that we only need 8 glasses of water in a day to stay hydrated. However, that’s not true. Hydration is not a one-size-fits-all. In fact, the amount of hydration that the body needs depend on several factors such as age, activity level, climate, and even life stages like pregnancy or breastfeeding. In an interview with HT Lifestyle, Nausheen Shaikh, nutritionist and diet consultant at Alyve Health said, “When you don’t get enough fluids, dehydration can sneak up on you. The good news? Staying hydrated doesn’t have to be boring. Beyond plain water, there are natural, nutrient-rich drinks that not only quench your thirst but also replenish electrolytes, support digestion, and cool your body from within.”

The nutritionist further suggested 5 drinks that help you hydrate better:

1. Coconut water

It is one of the best natural drinks for hydration. Packed with electrolytes like potassium, sodium, and magnesium, it helps replenish lost fluids and keeps your body refreshed. Unlike sugary sports drinks, coconut water is low in calories and free from artificial additives, making it a healthy choice for staying hydrated.

2. Infused water

If plain water tastes boring to you, you can consume infused water with flavour of fresh fruits like apple slices, mint leaves, kiwi slices. You may also add 1 tsp basil seeds to it for cooling effect.

3. Lemon water

The combination of water and fresh lemon juice helps detoxify the body, improve digestion, and maintain hydration levels. Adding a pinch of salt or honey enhances its benefits, making it a perfect drink for hot days. Also read | How to hydrate your skin the right way? Dermatologists share essential tips

4. Buttermilk

Made by mixing curd with water and adding spices like cumin and mint, buttermilk is packed with probiotics that promote gut health while keeping you hydrated and refreshed.

5. Watermelon juice

Watermelon juice helps maintain electrolyte balance, supports digestion, and provides a dose of antioxidants that protect the body from heat and stress. Adding a squeeze of lime or a pinch of black salt enhances its flavour and cooling effects.

“Hydration doesn’t have to feel like a chore; it can be refreshing, flavourful, and nourishing. Swapping a few glasses of plain water with these natural options can help you stay cool, energised, and ready to take on the day,” added Nausheen Shaikh. Extra Trailer for ‘Avatar: The Way of the Water’ Re-Release This Year

“The way of water has no beginning… and no end…” Time to go back again before the story continues. 20th Century Studios has debuted another new 45-second trailer to promote the upcoming re-release of James Cameron’s Avatar 2 – also known as Avatar: The Way of the Water. This massive, action-packed sci-fi sequel first hit theaters in December 2022 a few years ago. Right now they’re gearing up to launch Avatar 3 – known as Avatar: Fire and Ash (watch the teaser) – in theaters this December. The only spot left on the calendar for a week-long IMAX re-release is in early October this fall. A chance to revisit this second movie before the third one arrives. Once a familiar threat returns to finish what was started, Jake must work with Neytiri and another new army of the Na’vi race to protect their planet. They take to the waters, where even more fascinating creatures are found. The Way of Water cast features Zoe Saldana, Sam Worthington, Kate Winslet, Sigourney Weaver, Bailey Bass, Trinity Jo-Li Bliss, Jack Champion, Michelle Yeoh, Jemaine Clement, Stephen Lang, Cliff Curtis, Edie Falco, CCH Pounder, and Joel David Moore. I still prefer the first Avatar movie over this one, but at least we got to meet Payakan in Avatar 2. I’m ready for the next sequel, and of course it’s still exciting to rewatch these first two before the big release.

Here’s the new 2025 re-release trailer for James Cameron’s Avatar: The Way of Water, via YouTube:

Avatar: The Way of Water Poster

You can rewatch the teaser trailer for James Cameron’s Avatar 2 right here, and the gorgeous first trailer.

Set more than a decade after the events of the first film, Avatar: The Way of Water launches the story of the Sully family (Jake, Neytiri, and their kids), the trouble that follows them, the lengths they go to keep each other safe, the battles they fight to stay alive, and the tragedies they endure. All of this against the backdrop of the breathtaking seascapes of Pandora, where audiences are introduced to new Na’vi cultures and a range of exotic sea creatures. Avatar 2: The Way of Water is directed by iconic Canadian filmmaker James Cameron, director of the movies Piranha II: The Spawning, The Terminator, Aliens, The Abyss, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, True Lies, Titanic, and Avatar previously. The screenplay is co-written by James Cameron & Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver (of the Planet of the Apes sequels), from a story by Cameron, Rick Jaffa & Amanda Silver, Josh Friedman, Shane Salerno. Produced by James Cameron and Jon Landau. The epic sci-fi sequel originally opened in theaters in December 2022. 20th Century Studios + Disney are re-releasing Cameron’s Avatar: The Way of Water in theaters again starting October 3rd, 2025 this fall before the next movie lands in December. Miss Universe 2021 Harnaaz Sandhu is all set to make her Bollywood debut with Baaghi 4, starring Tiger Shroff. In a September 2 interview with Femina, the 25-year-old shared that her skincare secret lies in simplicity: she believes in cleansing, hydrating, and protecting. Harnaaz Sandhu has shared her fitness, skincare and beauty routine. Here’s a breakdown of her tips. (Instagram/ Harnaaz Sandhu)

Harnaaz Sandhu’s beauty secrets, go-to skin ritual

Sunscreen is non-negotiable for Harnaaz Sandhu, and she kickstarts her day with water and a pinch of salt. When it comes to getting that radiant glow, she swears by icing her skin before makeup — and says it’s a game-changer. But according to her, it is a ‘genuine smile’ that is her ultimate beauty hack.

She said, “I’ve always believed beauty starts with self-care. My go-to ritual is very simple – to cleanse, hydrate, and protect. I never skip sunscreen, and I swear by drinking plenty of water with a pinch of salt to start my day. A beauty hack I carry everywhere in the world is using ice cubes on my skin before makeup; it instantly refreshes and gives that natural glow. And, of course, a genuine smile.”

When you drink salt water, it may contribute to clearer and healthier skin by helping to balance the body’s pH levels, reducing inflammation, and eliminating toxins. Click here to know the seven health benefits of drinking salt water.

Harnaaz Sandhu’s fitness secrets revealed

Harnaaz Sandhu’s weight loss transformation has been quite impressive. After winning Miss Universe in 2021, she faced online criticism for her weight gain due to celiac disease, an autoimmune condition that made her body react negatively to gluten.

In the new Femina interview, Harnaaz highlighted how she underwent rigorous training in mixed martial arts, kickboxing, and weapons handling as part of her fitness routine for Baaghi 4.

She said, “When I signed Baaghi 4, I knew I had to bring both beauty and strength to the screen. I trained for months in mixed martial arts, kickboxing, and basic weapons handling. It wasn’t just about learning the moves; it was about building stamina, agility, and the right mental discipline. My coaches really pushed me to move like a fighter but with the grace and poise that comes naturally to me. It was the perfect fusion of my pageant discipline and an action star’s athleticism.”

Water From Your Eyes: It’s a Beautiful Place Album Review

Water From Your Eyes: It’s a Beautiful Place Album Review

by jummy84 August 26, 2025
written by jummy84

As they did on 2021’s concise yet intricate Structure, Water From Your Eyes once again prove that three perfect songs is all that one side of an LP really needs. “Nights in Armor”—written for Amos’ This Is Lorelei and then reworked—shuttles between glinting, Sarah Records-caliber indie pop, metal-adjacent chugging, and atonal skronk; part grunge and part shoegaze, “Born 2” traverses an Escherian staircase of changing keys that summits repeatedly on a note of fist-pumping triumph. Lyrically, it might be the most straightforwardly political thing that they’ve written, but the meaning is as cryptic as ever. For all the song’s promise of limitless possibility (“Born to become/Something else/Something melts”), Brown repeatedly drives home a single word—“psychopath”—like a silvery nail in a varnished coffin.

The second half repeats the format: three proper songs rounded out with two ambient sketches, but this time, one track hogs the spotlight: “Playing Classics,” a madcap dance-punk romp partially inspired by Charli XCX’s “Club Classics.” Its ebullience is almost awkward; its mismatching parts—disco hi-hats, Eurodance bass, too-bright keys, overdriven guitar solo, snatches of vocoder teased and just as quickly abandoned—summed up in the record’s most utopian sentiment: “Practice shake it you’re free.” I suspect it will be the album’s big hit, certainly in a live context. I don’t like it as much as anything on the A-side, but it is, truly, the album’s funniest song.

B-side opener “Spaceship,” though, is another roller coaster of backmasked guitars and shifting time signatures, closer in feel to the A-side’s contorted alt-rock. It’s hard to overstate how effortless Water From Your Eyes make even the most complicated grooves feel, and Brown’s hopeful singing (“So you dream, you build, you change/The cage looks like a window pane”) only adds to the suggestion of weightlessness. The country-fried “Blood on the Dollar,” on the other hand, feels almost like a demo, a bare-bones sketch for fuzzed-out guitar and muted drums. Slipping across slant rhymes and a sidelong Pixies reference, Brown might be singing about the end of empire, or the ennui of life online. The album’s lyrics never reveal anything as clear-cut as the thematic talking points—space, dinosaurs, measuring human existence on a cosmic scale—the duo routinely trots out in interviews, but that’s a point in favor of Brown’s suggestively mysterious writing. The duo’s banter may often resemble low-stakes brainrot, but Brown’s writing reaches beyond stoned dorm-room riffing into places where the punchlines dissolve.

“It’s either nothing is important or everything is important,” Brown recently told Fader; in context, they were talking about the cosmic existentialism that informs It’s a Beautiful Place, but it also feels like a fair assessment of Water From Your Eyes’ almost obsessive attention to detail. One detail in particular sticks out on this captivating, ambitious album: “For Mankind,” the ambient sketch that closes the record, is made of exactly the same sounds as the intro, “One Small Step”—a queasy wash of what might be a whirly tube run through digital processing, or perhaps a family of chipper sea lions. If you listen to the album on a loop, “For Mankind” will blur seamlessly back into “One Small Step,” effectively enclosing you within Water From Your Eyes’ invented universe. A front-row seat for the Amos-Brown mind meld—sprawling, amorphous, hermetic, overwhelming, heartbreaking, funny as hell. It’s a privileged vantage point.

Cancer specialist warns your ‘tea, pakora and even tap water could be cancer traps in monsoon’ | Health

by jummy84 August 25, 2025
written by jummy84

Monsoons don’t just increase your chances of health illnesses and infections, they can also bring cancer risks. Yes, you read that right. In an Instagram post shared on August 24, Dr Tarang Krishna, MD, a cancer specialist, shared how monsoon becomes a cancer trap if you don’t keep in mind a few safety measures.

We love the rain. But do we really know the cancer risks that come with them? (Shutterstock)

Monsoon could be a cancer trap?

Sharing the post, captioned, ‘This monsoon, your pakoa, your tea, even your tap water could be cancer traps’, Dr Krishna stressed, “We love the rains. But do we really know what comes with them?” He warned of the harmful effects of eating monsoon fish, floodwater bringing in toxins inside your home, and dampness caused by the rains, and also suggested a few tips that could protect you.

Here’s what the doctor said:

Floodwater

Per the cancer specialist, floodwater brings poison. He explained, “Floods mix sewage, pesticides, plastic waste, and heavy metals. Studies show floodwater in Indian cities contains arsenic, lead, and cadmium – all carcinogens.”

According to Dr Krishna, these seep into:

  • Drinking water: Increasing bladder and stomach cancer risk
  • Soil and crops: Contaminated vegetables carry toxins for months.

Monsoon fish and food chains

The cancer specialist explained, “Monsoon floods wash away industrial pollutants and sewage into rivers. Fish caught in these waters accumulate mercury and PCBs (both linked to cancer). A study in Mumbai markets found over 30 percent of monsoon fish samples exceeded safe heavy metal limits. That ‘fresh monsoon catch’ curry can secretly carry cancer-causing toxins.”

Dampness = Mould factories

After heavy rains, damp walls breed moulds such as Aspergillus flavus, Dr Krishna pointed out. He added, “They release aflatoxins, among the most potent natural carcinogens. The World Health Organisation states that 25-28 percent of liver cancer cases in Asia are linked to aflatoxin exposure, even office ACs and damp homes can spread spores you breathe in.”

Lastly, the cancer specialist warned, “Monsoon safety isn’t just mosquito nets and raincoats. It also includes:

  • Boil and filter water: Avoid untreated borewell /handpump water
  • Check the monsoon fish origin: Stick to trusted sellers
  • Store food dry: Toss out anything damp or mouldy.”
