Watch Tame Impala Perform ‘My Old Ways,’ ‘Dracula’ for A24 Live Series

by jummy84 October 22, 2025

The set, directed by filmmaker Sean Durkin, featured three songs from the group’s new LP, Deadbeat

Tame Impala showcased three songs off their new album Deadbeat for A24‘s “Sound Check” live series. The set, held at New York’s Cherry Lane Theatre and directed by The Iron Claw filmmaker Sean Durkin, featured renditions of “My Old Ways,” “Dracula,” and “Loser.”

The Australian group, led by Kevin Parker, set up on the empty theater’s stage in a circle to perform the sprawling tracks. The performance stayed largely true to the album, released last week, focusing on its psychedelic rock vibe. Durkin gave the clip a moody feel with low lighting that kept the musicians in the shadows on the stage for some of the performance.

Deadbeat is Tame Impala’s highly-anticipated fifth studio album. Last week, Parker and company visited NPR’s Tiny Desk to deliver the band’s first-ever all-acoustic performance. Armed with six acoustic guitars — one of which was used as the percussion — Tame Impala played four songs over 20 minutes, opening with The Slow Rush’s “Borderline” before performing two tracks off Deadbeat, “Loser” and “Dracula.”

Trending Stories

Parker previously described his long-awaited follow-up to 2020’s The Slow Rush as “kind of a future primitive rave act,” and an accompanying press release for Deadbeat reiterated that compelling musical aesthetic, citing Western Australia’s rave scene and bush doof culture as inspiration.

Tame Impala will hit the road later this month on their six-city U.S. tour in support of Deadbeat, beginning Oct. 27 with a four-night stand at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center and concluding Nov. 17 with the third of three gigs at Los Angeles’ Kia Forum.

Anna Calvi and Perfume Genius Cover Bonnie Prince Billy’s “I See A Darkness”: Watch the Video

by jummy84 October 21, 2025
written by jummy84

Anna Calvi has enlisted Perfume Genius for a cover of the Bonnie Prince Billy classic “I See A Darkness.” The song accompanies the recent launch of Calvi’s new Substack, Carving Silver in Strange Weather, a home for unreleased songs, playlists, and writings on music. Watch the cover’s Alexander Brown–directed video, about two friends on a night out in London, below.

Calvi says in a press release, “So many songs are about romantic love. But I wanted to highlight the romance of the chosen family, the depth of connection that isn’t tethered to heteronormative ideals. It’s such a powerful song about the yearning for intimacy. I love inhabiting other people’s songs. When I sing someone else’s words, I feel like I’m getting closer to myself somehow, because the songs I choose express something I can’t articulate.”

Calvi’s recent work includes scores for the final two seasons of Peaky Blinders, released in 2023. Her last albums were 2018’s Hunter and its guest-assisted companion LP Hunted. Perfume Genius release Glory this year.

Watch: Todd Vaziri Breaks Down ILM’s Excellent Visual Effects Work

“Let’s make it as cool as possible.” While making it look as realistic as possible! Every few months there is a discussion about visual effects and CGI and how Hollywood loves to hide the truth of how much work goes into each & every movie. The most outspoken advocate reminding people about CGI in movies is the social media maven Todd Vaziri – who also happens to work at the illustrious ILM (Industrial Light & Magic) in San Francisco. He’s always commenting on Twitter about how VFX happen, so Vanity Fair put together a video feature him discussing his work at the studio. “ILM’s compositing supervisor Todd Vaziri breaks down the methodical approach to the groundbreaking creations that have redefined the limits of our imagination.” He spends a few minutes on a handful of movies discussing the shots and his work on these shots, and how ILM created and finished each of these shots. It is one of the most interesting and entirely comprehensive breakdowns that actually shows what really goes into VFX shots these days. Todd has always said the most important aspect to making VFX look legit: shot composition. Which he talks about in depth in the video.

Todd Vaziri - ILM's Star Wars VFX

Thanks to Twitter for the tip on this video. Original intro via Vanity Fair’s YouTube: “From the breathtaking innovations in the Star Wars trilogy to the astonishing imagery in Transformers, Industrial Light & Magic has truly revolutionized visual effects in TV and movies. ILM’s compositing supervisor Todd Vaziri breaks down [their] approach to the groundbreaking creations that have redefined the limits of our imagination.” This video includes breakdowns on the visual effects from a few movies including: Gareth Edwards’ Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016), John Francis Daley & Jonathan Goldstein’s Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves (2013), Disney+’s Star Wars: Skeleton Crew series (2024), J.J. Abrams’ Star Trek: Into Darkness (2013), Michael Bay’s Transformers movies, and J.J. Abrams’ Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens (2015). Watch Axl Rose throw mic at and kick new Guns N’ Roses drummer’s kit before storming off stage in Argentina

Axl Rose has kicked and thrown his mic at new Guns N’ Roses drummer Isaac Carpenter’s kit and stormed off stage at a show in Argentina.

  • READ MORE: Guns N’ Roses live at Glastonbury: a solid performance… to the wrong crowd

The band are in the middle of a South American tour and on Saturday (October 18), they played the second of two shows at Estadio Huracan in Buenos Aires. During the show’s opening number ‘Welcome To The Jungle’, the frontman appeared to lose his temper and take it out on the drumkit.

After finishing the song’s chorus, he threw his microphone at the kit, tore off his leather jacket and stormed off stage. Elsewhere in the show, he walked up the drum riser and directly kicked the bass drum.

“So, I’ll just try and wing this,” he told the crowd in one clip that has surfaced online. It is unclear if he was angry at his bandmates or the sound on stage. Watch footage here:

In March, the band’s long-term drummer Frank Ferrer, who had been with them since 2006, left the band in what was initially described as an “amicable exit”, although he later shared his “disappointment” that his time with the band had finished.

One day later, AWOLNATION’s Carpenter was announced as their new drummer, having previously worked with GNR’s bassist Duff McKagan’s band Loaded.

Last week, Slash hinted that a new Guns N’ Roses albums is “coming”, saying that “everybody [in the band] is thinking about it”. The band have not released a full-length album since 2008’s much-delayed ‘Chinese Democracy’, while the last LP that either Slash or McKagan appeared on was the 1993 covers album ‘The Spaghetti Incident?’.

“There’s so much material at this point – it’s a matter of having the discipline to sit down and fucking get into it,” he said. “But the thing with Guns is, in my experience, you can never plan ahead. You can never sit down and go, ‘We’re going to take this time, and we’re going to do this.’ Every time we’ve done that, it falls apart.”

NME caught the band’s Glastonbury headline performance in 2023, calling it “one of their strongest sets in recent years” in a three-star review.

“To any G’N’R fan, the Glasto set undoubtedly marks one of the strongest sets that the rock veterans have given in recent years — completely devoid of sound issues, Axl Rose’s vocals in pretty good form, Slash at the top of his game and, probably the second biggest shock of the night, the band beginning the performance bang on time.”

Lorde Brings Out Charli XCX for ‘Girl, So Confusing’ in L.A.: Watch

by jummy84 October 20, 2025

The singers delivered the song’s remix at Kia Forum on Saturday

Lorde and Charli XCX worked it out on the remix live last night, with a surprise performance of their collaborative version of Charli XCX’s “Girl, So Confusing.”

At Lorde’s Ultrasound World Tour stop at Kia Forum in Los Angeles Saturday, the singer invited Charli XCX out during the encore. Lorde gave the audience a clue what was coming when she wrote the word “Girl” and underlined it on the palm of her hand, as fan footage shows.

Appearing on a small platform in the middle of the audience, Lorde started singing the song as a video displayed on the main stage screen showed footage of Charli, who turned out to be on the Kia Forum’s main floor. Charli then launched into her first verse. She walked through the audience and made her way to the platform, where the pair performed the Brat and It’s Completely Different But Also Still Brat track together, delivering an energized, dance-fueled performance.

The duo previously performed the remix together during Charli’s co-headlining Sweat Tour with Troye Sivan in 2024, and earlier this year, they teamed up to perform it during Charli’s appearance at Coachella in April.

Trending Stories

A year after the remix’s release, and the song’s complicated female friendship narrative, which they address in their confessional collaborative version, continues to resonate not only between the artists and their fans, but with other female artists, too. In September, Hinds, who has been covering the remix version on tour, released a video for their spin on the track.

Lorde’s tour continues through the U.S. with three more stops — she plays Berkeley tonight before continuing on to Portland and Seattle. She then heads to the Europe and the U.K. She concludes the 2025 portion of the tour with a pair of shows in Brooklyn at Barclays Center on Dec. 16 and Dec. 17.

Sabrina Carpenter Performs “Manchild” and “Nobody’s Son” on Saturday Night Live: Watch

by jummy84 October 20, 2025
written by jummy84

Sabrina Carpenter was the host and musical guest on last night’s (October 18) episode of Saturday Night Live, where she performed songs from her new album Man’s Best Friend. Dressed in SNL-themed underwear, Carpenter sang the single “Manchild” into a hairbrush; later, she donned a gi and did some karate for the album track “Nobody’s Son.” Carpenter also starred in sketches throughout the evening as a 12-year-old boy podcast host, a girlboss motivational speaker who suffers a head injury, and a singing washing machine.

In her opening monologue, Carpenter addressed the controversy around the Man’s Best Friend album cover. “What people don’t realize is that’s just how they cropped it,” she joked. “If you zoom out it’s clearly a picture from the [Saturday Night Live] 50th anniversary special of Bowen [Yang] helping me up by the hair after Martin Short shoved me out of the buffet line, saying something like ‘Daddy need his mini quiche.’” Carpenter also touched on her brand as a “horndog popstar”—“I’m not just horny, I’m also turned on, and sexually charged”—did some sexually charged crowd work, and was nearly arrested by Keenan Thompson. Watch Carpenter’s full speech and performances, plus her SNL promo video with cast member Marcello Hernandez, below.

Last night marked Carpenter’s third appearance on Saturday Night Live—fourth if you count her cameo in this year’s Quinta Brunson-hosted episode. She first stopped by Studio 8H as musical guest on the heels of her 2024 album Short n’ Sweet, and was a part of SNL50: The Anniversary Special, where she performed a duet of the Simon & Garfunkel song “Homeward Bound” alongside Paul Simon. On Thursday, Carpenter will kick off a run of North American arena shows, with stops in Pittsburgh, New York, Nashville, Toronto, and Los Angeles.

Season 51 of Saturday Night Live premiered on October 4. The season debut was hosted by Bad Bunny, with Doja Cat serving as musical guest. After taking this week off, SNL’s next three episodes are set to feature Miles Teller and Brandi Carlile, Nikki Glaser and Sombr, and Glen Powell and Olivia Dean, respectively.
