Harvard gastroenterologist warns creatine supplements might be a waste of money if you are not doing this

Creatine supplements have become a staple in fitness circles, often praised as a shortcut to better strength and performance. But the reality is far more straightforward: creatine only works if you do. Without regular resistance training, the supplement offers little to no benefit – making it an unnecessary expense for anyone not committed to muscle-strengthening workouts.

Dr Trisha Pasricha, a Harvard-trained gastroenterologist and scientist, who also writes the ‘Ask a Doctor’ column for The Washington Post, is breaking down the nuances of creatine supplementation – what you should be doing, and who it’s really for. In an Instagram video shared by The Washington Post on 16 November, the gastroenterologist explains why strength training is essential when taking creatine – otherwise, she notes, it’s simply a waste of money.

Creatine combined with resistance training

According to Dr Pasricha, creatine can offer real benefits, but it’s essentially a waste of money if you’re not doing sufficient resistance training to support it. She explains, “I know that everyone online swears by it, and they’re right that there is some validity to the creatine craze, but only if, and here’s the kicker, you are also doing resistance training twice a week. Multiple randomised control trials have found that creatine can create small but real changes in upper and lower body strength, but only when combined with resistance training.”

Who is creatine for?

The gastroenterologist stresses that if you are not doing enough resistance training, her advice would be to skip creatine supplements entirely. However, she recommends, “If you’re already doing resistance training and you’re at a higher risk of losing muscle mass, like post-menopausal women, people on GLP-1 medications, older people in nursing homes, or maybe you just want a small boost, then it’s totally reasonable to talk to your physician about creatine supplements.”

How does creatine benefit you?

Studies indicate that creatine supplements, when paired with consistent resistance training, can help increase both upper and lower body strength. Dr Pasricha points out, “Some studies have shown that younger adults who supplement with creatine while resistance training can improve their chest and bench press strength by about four pounds. Some people might feel like four pounds isn’t life-changing, but if you’re at a higher risk group, it might be worth it.”

The gastroenterologist advises that you should be doing muscle-strengthening exercises – such as sit-ups, push-ups, or weight training – at least twice a week. If not, it’s better to skip creatine altogether. While many people begin with three to five grams a day, women may benefit from a slightly higher dose.

Bigg Boss 19: Salman Khan’s Fiery Lecture To Amaal Mallik – ‘Don’t Waste Your Potential’ | Glamsham.com

The upcoming Weekend Ka Vaar episode of Bigg Boss 19 promises high drama, emotional breakdowns, sharp confrontations, and moments of laughter—everything fans expect from the reality show. This week, host Salman Khan takes center stage as he reprimands contestants, especially music composer Amaal Mallik, for his conduct inside the house.

In a promo released by JioCinema, Salman confronts Amaal about his aggressive behaviour, repeated use of foul language, and personal attacks on fellow contestants’ families. Calling him out directly, Salman says,
“Amaal, you came here saying you wanted to clean your image. That’s clearly not happening. You’re constantly abusing and dragging families into fights. Think about your fans, the Amaalians—many of them are kids. Do you want them to speak like this?”

Salman also reminded Amaal of his immense talent and the responsibility that comes with being a public figure. He added,
“You’re a very talented boy. Don’t waste your potential. I want you to come out of this show as a winner—not just in the game, but in life.”
A visibly emotional Amaal acknowledged Salman’s words, nodding in agreement.

Adding more spice to the episode, Gauahar Khan, winner of Bigg Boss 7, will appear to give her brother-in-law Awez Darbar a reality check. She will also call out Amaal for his derogatory comments about Awez, stating, “Amaal, the character you’re showing is very two-faced. You belong to no one.”

Reports also suggest that former Bigg Boss OTT finalist Abhishek Malhan and comedian Harsh Gujral will join the episode for added entertainment.

Following the recent commentary task, the contestants nominated for eviction this week include: Ashnoor Kaur, Awez Darbar, Pranit More, Mridul Tiwari, Gaurav Khanna, and Neelam Giri.

Karrueche Tran Hints At Dating Deion Sanders: ‘I Wouldn’t Even Waste My Time If The Love Wasn’t Good’

Karrueche Tran is opening up about a new romance with someone, who many believe to be NFL legend and University of Colorado coach Deion Sanders.

During an appearance on the “What’s Next w/ J. Ryan” podcast on the DOPE Network, the “Claws” actress confirmed she’s having “tons of fun” in the dating world after J. Ryan noted her recent interest in football. Christina Milian who also appeared on the podcast jokingly said, “Touchdown!”

While she didn’t say Deion’s name, Tran didn’t hesitate to express how serious the mystery connection is.

“I wouldn’t even waste my time if the love wasn’t good,” she said. “At this point in my life, I know what I know and like!!!”

The romance speculation gained steam in July when Karrueche was spotted supporting Sanders at the hospital following his bladder removal surgery.

Sanders has yet to publicly comment.

Do you believe they’re a real couple?

Frankie Bridge feels like a ‘worthless waste of space’ as she grapples with depression

Frankie Bridge is struggling with her mental health and has felt like “a worthless waste of space”.

Frankie Bridge has been grappling with depression for many years

The former Saturdays singer has always been candid about her battle with depression and anxiety, and over the weekend, she revealed she spent most of her time “psyching” herself up to get up and about and do some exercise to help relive the stress.

She penned on her Instagram Stories: “Sometimes this is what depression looks like.

“Sitting on the sofa all day in your pjs. Then being so fundamentally fed up of your own s***, you finally find the strength to make it to the gym.

“Quick shower and back to the sofa and pjs. Better than nothing.”

In another post of her on an exercise machine, she penned: “Spent a lot of the time psyching myself up and trying to quiet the noise in my head.

“Today it’s telling me I’m a worthless waste of space.”

Frankie shared a similar post in March.

She told her followers: “I have finally made it down to the gym. It has taken me the whole day to actually get here. ‘My depression is absolutely kicking my a*** and I am so over it.

“You know when you just feel like you do all the things you’re told to do and then it just always comes back.

“I’m just so bored of myself, it is so boring. You know, I just think everyone around me must just be so bored of it as well.

“But I am here, I’m gonna try and do as much as I can in the gym, because I know it will make me feel better. And so sitting around, eating s***, which is what I’ve been doing all day, only makes me feel worse.”

Frankie later shared with her fans how much better she felt after her workout.

She said: “So there is not much that a little bit of Paramore and a workout can’t fix.

“I definitely feel a lot better and if I hadn’t come in, I’d have just berated myself even more that I had the whole day that I was able to come to the gym and I just didn’t, and I just sat around and just wallowed in self pity.

“It is what it is, I should just be pleased that I’ve done it. It’s just a little reminder we have bad days. Hopefully tomorrow will be a better one.”

Last year, Frankie said she had developed a better understanding of her illness.

She said: “When you understand that it’s a medical thing, it makes you feel like you’re not just crazy.”

Frankie previously entered a specialist mental health hospital after understanding that she “couldn’t cope with everyday life”.

The brunette beauty – who is married to former soccer star Wayne Bridge – told BBC Radio 1: “I’d reached a point where I couldn’t cope with everyday life.

“I was constantly crying and telling my partner that I didn’t really want to be here anymore.”

Frankie is “proud” with how she copes with her mental health struggles.

She said: “I still suffer with depression and anxiety but I just know how to deal with it better now.”
