by jummy84 November 13, 2025
written by jummy84

International Convention Centre Wales (ICC Wales) has appointed a new Co-Chair and a new Director to its Board as it seeks to expand its profile in the international business events sector.

Mark Rhydderch-Roberts steps up from the position of Board Director to Co-Chair and Alan Wilkins becomes a new Board Director at the world-class events venue in South Wales.

Mr Rhydderch-Roberts, who spent 27 years as an Investment Banker, holding senior roles with a number of leading global investment banks, is also the Chair of Glamorgan County Cricket Club and led the recent successful sale of 50% of the Club’s holding in the Welsh Fire Hundred franchise to international investors.

A former rugby player for leading clubs including Bath and Pontypridd, Mr Rhydderch-Roberts was recently reappointed to the Welsh Industrial Development Agency Board and served on the Development Bank of Wales Task and Finish Group.

He will assume the position of Co-Chair at ICC Wales alongside existing Chair Christopher Munday who remains in post.

Mr Rhydderch-Roberts said: “I was honoured to be appointed to the ICC Wales Board prior to the opening of this exceptional venue in 2017 and I am delighted to step up my involvement as Co-Chair. These are exciting times for ICC Wales as the venue continues to establish its reputation as a world-class venue for staging the largest national and international business events, and I look forward to playing an even greater part in developing future business and growth.”

Mr Wilkins is another appointment with strong Welsh cricket connections as a former Glamorgan seam bowler and the Club’s current President. Following retirement through injury, he has enjoyed an illustrious career as an international sports broadcaster, starting in cricket but going on to commentate and present on rugby, football, golf, tennis, motorsport and the Olympics for channels including BBC, ITV, Eurosport, ESPN and Fox Sports.

The inaugural golf club captain at the Celtic Manor Resort where ICC Wales is located, Mr Wilkins brings a wealth of local and international contacts to his new role.

He said: “I am delighted to join the ICC Wales Board and look forward to working with the other board members to help the venue realise its ambitious business goals. As a proud Welshman, I know what an asset we have in this exceptional convention centre which attracts prestigious events and visitors from all over the world to Wales, bringing huge benefits to the Welsh economy.”

Welcoming the appointments, Julie Hammond, Group CEO of ICC Wales and The Celtic Collection, said: “Mark and Alan bring a wealth of business expertise and experience and I am sure they will excel in their new roles and be a real asset to ICC Wales as we expand our presence in the global business events market.”

onboard:earth Launches Green Travel Toolkit to Decarbonise Welsh Event Travel, CARDIFF, WALES — 16th October 2025

by jummy84 October 16, 2025
written by jummy84

The environmental charity onboard:earth has launched its Green Travel Toolkit for Events in Wales at the Welsh Festivals Summit in Cardiff, aimed at helping event organisers to measure and reduce the carbon footprint associated with attendee and production travel.

The new special-edition guide and toolkit was funded by the Event Wales Sustainable Events Accelerator project. Chris Johnson, CEO of onboard:earth, shared the resources with delegates at the Summit, which was presented by the Association of Independent Festivals (AIF) and the British Arts Festivals Association (BAFA).

The Green Travel Toolkit is designed to help organisations measure and reduce travel impacts based on recent research and best-practice strategies. It provides two main guides: The Green Travel Guide for Welsh Events, and A Quick Guide to Collecting Quality Travel Data.

In addition to the guides, the toolkit includes practical resources, including; spreadsheets for accurately recording and understanding vehicle miles and emissions; off-the-shelf surveys to collect quality travel data from event stakeholders, policy templates to formalise commitments with stakeholders; and action plans ready to be deployed by event teams.

The main guide summarises key findings from Welsh and UK Government policy reports, detailing how upcoming changes may affect event organisers. This includes insights from the Welsh Government’s policy document, ‘Decarbonising Wales Transport System while connecting people and places’ (March 2024), alongside updates on Welsh Public Transport Infrastructure.

Onboard earth launch green travel toolkit for welsh events 2Onboard earth launch green travel toolkit for welsh events 2

New case studies in the guide showcase successful low-carbon initiatives implemented across a variety of Welsh events, spanning music festivals, mass participation sporting events, and venues. These examples include Hay Festival, Green Man Festival, Ourea Events, Live Nation’s Chepstow Summer Sessions, Run4Wales’ Cardiff Half Marathon, and The International Conference Centre Wales.

These successes demonstrate that tackling travel challenges is achievable and often requires partnership working. They illustrate how events are successfully collaborating directly with transport providers like Transport for Wales, First Bus, and Great Western Railway to make low-carbon travel more accessible for audiences.

Lucy Scrase, Project Manager at onboard:earth and Green Travel Toolkit lead, said:

“Thanks to funding from the Welsh Government’s Event Wales Sector Development Fund, and the policy insights and knowledge shared by our partners, we’ve been able to tailor our best-practice tools and advice on green travel and transport to support events in Wales. We hope this guide charts a clear, actionable path for the continual rise of low-carbon event travel across the country.”

Luxury Pembrokeshire destination crowned best hotel in Wales

by jummy84 September 26, 2025
written by jummy84

St Brides Spa Hotel in Pembrokeshire has been crowned Hotel of the Year for Wales at the prestigious AA Hospitality Awards.

The luxury spa retreat and popular meetings and events destination was presented with the special award at a glittering black-tie dinner at London’s JW Marriott Grosvenor House on Monday 22nd September.

St Brides Spa Hotel, which enjoys a breathtaking clifftop location overlooking Saundersfoot Beach and Bay, becomes the first venue in Wales to win the coveted accolade for a second time, having previously picked up the award in 2011. It is also the second Celtic Collection hotel in successive years to collect the award following the success of Cardiff’s Parkgate Hotel in winning Hotel of the Year for Wales in 2024.

The award caps a momentous year for St Brides which has been elevated by an extensive three-month refurbishment during 2025. All 35 hotel bedrooms have been fully refurbished with new air conditioning, carpets, furniture and soft furnishings enhancing the fresh coastal feel. St Brides also offers a versatile range of meetings and events spaces, which can host up to 100 delegates, benefitting from natural daylight and sea views.

The hotel’s celebrated spa, with its iconic infinity pool, has also benefited from substantial improvements including a new Himalayan infra-red saltroom, outdoor sauna and spa pool, while the 2AA Rosette Cliff Restaurant has been rebranded and refurnished to make even more of the hotel’s stunning coastal views.

Celtic Collection Regional Operations Director Matt Barnby said: “The whole team at St Brides Spa Hotel are committed to providing the warmest Welsh welcome, delivering exceptional hospitality and exceeding guest expectations, so winning Hotel of the Year for Wales from the AA is an amazing achievement and a fantastic endorsement for all that we do.

“With so many other incredible hotels and destinations in Wales, we are absolutely thrilled to win this award for the second time. Since reopening in May, we have received some wonderful feedback from guests on the quality of the refurbishments throughout the hotel and this award is the icing on the cake.”

The AA, which has long been a marker of leading restaurant and hotel venues, celebrates the crème de la crème of UK hospitality.

Simon Numphud, Managing Director at AA Media, expressed his pride in the resilience and creativity shown by the UK’s hospitality sector in 2025: “This celebration highlights the passion, creativity and resilience that define UK hospitality. The teams have turned challenges into opportunities, inspiring us with their innovation and dedication.

“Congratulations to all winners, nominees and new Rosette holders – your achievements deserve recognition today and set a shining example for the future of our industry.”

The Celtic Collection took over the management of St Brides Spa Hotel in 2024 in partnership with the hotel’s new owner, the Port of Milford Haven.

Catherine, Princess of Wales and Melania Trump to carry out first joint engagement

14 September 2025

Catherine, Princess of Wales and Melania Trump will carry out their first joint engagement next week during the US state visit to the UK.

Catherine, Princess of Wales and Melania Trump will carry out their first joint engagement next week during the US state visit to the UK

The 43-year-old royal will welcome US president Donald Trump, 79, and first lady Melania, 55, alongside her husband Prince William, also 43, on 17 September, before accompanying Melania for an outing the following day.

Hosted by King Charles, 76, the state visit will run from 16 to 18 September.

On 18 September, Kate and Melania will visit Frogmore Gardens in Windsor, where they will be joined by the UK’s chief scout Dwayne Fields and members of the Scouts’ Squirrels programme, Buckingham Palace has confirmed.

The engagement will see the Princess of Wales and first lady meet young people as they earn their “Go Wild” badge by exploring nature.

Catherine has served as joint president of the Scout Association since 2020, having been a Brownie as a child.

She has previously spoken about the role nature played during her cancer treatment last year.

Catherine announced in March 2024 she was undergoing preventative treatment for the illness, and confirmed in September she had completed chemotherapy and said in January she is now in remission.

In March this year, Catherine joined Mr Fields and a group of Scouts for an outing in the Lake District.

He told People: “She would say, ‘During my recovery, I spent a lot of time in the outdoors because that’s where I felt at peace’, or, ‘Myself and the family come out to the Lakes as often as we can’.

“When people speak about themselves, it feels like they are giving you something, giving a little bit away, and not just there to take.

“That’s her superpower. She’s a wonderfully warm person and invites you into a conversation.”

The Prince and Princess of Wales will formally greet Donald and Melania on 17 September at Windsor Castle before introducing them to King Charles and Queen Camilla, 78.

The Trumps will then join the royal family for a carriage procession through Windsor, followed by a guard of honour inspection and lunch in the castle’s state dining room.

That evening, Charles and Camilla will host a state banquet, attended by senior royals including William and Catherine.

The visit marks the second state occasion for Donald and Melania in the UK, following their 2019 visit hosted by the late Queen Elizabeth.

Ahead of her joint outing with Catherine, Melania will also accompany Camilla on a tour of Queen Mary’s Dolls’ House and the Royal Library at Windsor Castle.

bitchy | Marca: King Charles thinks the Wales family’s move to Forest Lodge is stupid

by jummy84 August 21, 2025
written by jummy84

There’s been some fascinating backlash to the Prince and Princess of Wales’s planned move to Forest Lodge. It’s reminded me, in a way, of the backlash to Kate’s “cancerfree” video last September. Within the video, Kate announced that she was now “cancerfree,” and then Kensington Palace tried to block reporters from using that word. The video itself was nonsensical, like a hazy commercial for an MAO inhibitor. At the time, I wondered why there was so much discontent over the video, then someone let the cat out of the bad – Buckingham Palace was very displeased with it, and sources close to King Charles noted that Charles and Camilla would never be filmed kissing each other on a beach because “it’s distinctly un-regal.” Another well-placed royal insider noted: “All that lying round, hugging and kissing – they’re not soppy teenagers. It felt manipulative. It’s the sort of thing that Meghan would make. All the time, effort and expense put into making the video could have been much better spent elsewhere. Why not visit other women being treated for cancer? That’s what Diana would have done.”

I bring that up because I feel like we’re just days away from finding Charles and Camilla’s fingerprints all over the backlash to Forest Lodge. Not that I even believe that C&C need to orchestrate anything at this point – royal reporters are clearly already furious with Will and Kate’s laziness and their office’s history of lies and obfuscation. But I wonder if C&C’s courtiers have given the go-ahead to attack. Speaking of, Marca reports that Charles thought the move to Forest Lodge was stupid from the word go.

The tension within the British Royal Family shows no signs of easing up, though this time it has nothing to do with Prince Harry. Instead, it’s Prince William and Kate Middleton who aren’t on the same page as King Charles III when it comes to picking their “forever home”.

While William and Kate are seemingly set on making the move, the decision hasn’t gone down well with King Charles. It isn’t the first time the King has disagreed with the couple over a move, as earlier reports suggested they were considering moving to Fort Belvedere but plans fell through.

The belief is that Charles doesn’t believe William and Kate need another property as they already have three – Kensington Palace, Anmer Hall and Adelaide Cottage. Charles feels that another move wouldn’t go down well with taxpayers and those opposed to the monarchy.

Despite Charles’ opposition, it looks as though Prince William is intent on going through with the move. As a result, two families are being evicted from their homes, which has raised eyebrows and created some bad publicity for the Prince and Princess of Wales.

Now faced with backlash, King Charles has no intention of getting involved in the matter, as he feels the situation could have been avoided had the couple listened to his advice.

[From Marca]

My thing is… why did Charles and QEII make such a point of giving Will and Kate such a small house (Adelaide Cottage) in 2022? They were already begging for a much larger and grander property back in 2021-22. They were never going to be happy with Adelaide. Unless the whole point of Adelaide was William and Charles agreeing to sideline Kate and give her a separate, out-of-the-way cottage where William could come and go and his movements would be largely hidden. That being said, I absolutely believe that Charles thinks the move to Forest Lodge is stupid as hell, and he probably did warn them that they were inviting backlash.
