Dakota Johnson Debuts as a Valentino Woman at Vogue World 2025: Hollywood

Last night, Vogue World 2025 took over the famed Paramount lot to explore the expansive relationship between fashion and film. Dakota Johnson took the moment to debut her Valentino partnership, and pay tribute to her own longheld creative collaboration with designer Alessandro Michele.

Johnson wore look 40 from Michele’s spring 2026 ready-to-wear collection: a long pink gown that clings close to the body, with fanning, crystal floral appliqués, and a tulle-ruffled neckline. It hit all of the marks of a Dakota Johnson look, with exquisite detailing and sheer elements.

While the night’s look was ever-so-slightly parred back, Johnson just recently defended her love of a naked dress in an interview with Vogue Germany: “I really don’t care,” she said about her penchant for sheerness. “I’ve been able to wear some of the most beautiful dresses, and I feel beautiful in them, so I wear them.”

Johnson wore her trademark bangs and her brunette hair long and straight, accessorizing with simple drop earrings and a rectangular, black Valentino clutch bag.

bitchy | Nicole Kidman covers Vogue & didn’t mention or reference Keith Urban once

by jummy84 October 27, 2025
written by jummy84

Nicole Kidman covers the November issue of Vogue. The interview was conducted before the news about her marriage, but Vogue still had time (near the end of the piece) to reference it, with the writer mentioning that Nicole had given off a vibe that her personal life was in a transition. Even without that aside, Nicole seemingly did not mention Keith Urban whatsoever in the piece. She talked about losing her parents, the power of female friendships, how close she is to her sister Antonia and more. Those were the indicators: Nicole was already preparing herself for another divorce and starting over. Some highlights from Vogue:

Anthony Minghella told her that her acting is “skinless.” “I’ve always remembered it. I thought: I’m not sure that’s good, but I look back now that he’s gone”—Minghella died in 2008—“and I sort of understand what he meant. It’s okay, but sometimes you’ve got to put on armor, to protect, when you are skinless.”

She doesn’t like resting: “Taking a risk is what I’ve always done,” she said. Nor does she dwell on mistakes. “You get back up and you try again and you learn.” Her successes, acting or producing, allow her the scope to work on offbeat projects. “I still go back to shoestring indie filmmaking because it was where I was born, but then I can move into a big studio [movie] like Practical Magic, where you go, Okay! But that has an enormous amount of pressure and responsibility and how do you carry that load?”

Women’s film roles have changed so much: “It’s not the Madonna-whore anymore.”

Why she keeps taking these dark/sexual roles: “I don’t know. Isn’t that weird that I don’t know why?” In reality, she is an introvert—but, she said, “sex is an important part of our lives and is still, a lot of times, taboo, and it shouldn’t be.”

Her love of fashion: “Sometimes it’s armor. Sometimes it’s playful, sometimes it’s sexy. It just depends on my mood. Sometimes it’s androgynous, sometimes it’s kind of, screw you.” Kidman told me she sees fashion as “a parallel artistic life.”

On haters, judgment, online excoriation. “Literally walk away from it. Because it will fell you. It will destroy you.” She counsels her teenage daughters to follow Taylor Swift’s advice and shake it off. Sunday Rose began modeling last year, walking the runway for Miu Miu. “It’s very frightening for me,” Kidman admitted. “[But] I started working at 14, so I don’t really have a leg to stand on.”

She spent the summer in Europe with her family: “Going to Hyde Park and concerts, Glastonbury and Salisbury—so much summer fun—Evita, seeing theater, walking Hampstead Heath, swimming there. Went to Portugal, went to Greece, had my nieces and nephews around, lots of family: my sister, my best friend since I was four, and her three children. A very tight group.”

The mention of the divorce: A few weeks after we met, after this story had gone to press, news broke of Kidman’s separation from Urban (she would file for divorce in late September). During our conversations I had guessed as much, but I didn’t want to pry. When I asked about how she felt now, in her 50s, I had expected to hear a nice trite response about the sagacity of age. Instead Kidman was wry, rueful, unsure of herself. She said: “How many times do you have to be taught that you think you know where your life is going and then it isn’t going in that direction?”

[From Vogue]

Her description of her summer in Europe was a HUGE tell. She was not in a rush to get back to Nashville, she was not flying back to see her husband over the summer. Which is fine – even by the pro-Kidman descriptions, it sounded like Nicole and Keith agreed to some kind of trial separation in June, so they were both supposed to be taking some time and space to figure out what they wanted. He wanted to bang a 25-year-old. Nicole wanted to work on the marriage. Anyway, I’d love it if we got another post-divorce revenge-fashion tour from Nicole, like we got after she divorced Tom Cruise.

Vogue World 2025: An Exclusive Look Inside the Show

written by jummy84

Talk about a fashion fantasia! On Sunday night in Los Angeles, Vogue World: Hollywood transformed the Paramount Studios lot into an active runway, flooded with new and custom designer looks on high-flying top models; original costumes from iconic films; nods to iconic personalities and characters from Hollywood history; and no small number of A-list stars.

Beyond tapping houses like Alaïa, Balmain, Louis Vuitton, Marc Jacobs, Miu Miu, McQueen by Seán McGirr, and Valentino to whip up ensembles inspired by the movies, the sprawling fashion team that brought Vogue World: Hollywood to life also sourced wardrobe elements, props, and other set dressings from eBay, Vogue’s official pre-loved partner. (Thrillingly, a selection of items from the show—and a wider curation of goods—is headed to a Vogue x eBay vintage pop-up in West Hollywood on November 1. More on that here.)

The event’s livestream, helmed by Emmy Award-winning and Grammy-nominated director Mark A. Ritchie of Southpaw Productions, was a total wonder—but for a closer look at the lights, cameras, and action on the ground at Vogue World on Sunday, scroll on. Below, photographers Hunter Abrams, Poupay Jutharat, and Sinna Nasseri deliver the goods—from candid shots of celebrity attendees to the best moments you didn’t see at home.

Everything You Need to Know About Vogue World 2025 in Hollywood, California

by jummy84 October 26, 2025
written by jummy84

When Vogue World made its debut in New York three ago, a stretch of downtown Manhattan turned into an open-air runway parade, complete with Vogue models, Howard University dancers, and Fendi baguettes. In 2023, the event headed to London’s historic Theatre Royal Drury Lane, where Annie Lennox serenaded the crowd, Tom Sturridge and Sophie Okonedo performed Shakespeare, and the Supers enjoyed a super reunion. Then, June 2024 saw Vogue World transform Paris’s Place Vendôme for a thrilling celebration of fashion and sport starring Bad Bunny, Kendall and Gigi (on horseback!), and 683 fashion looks called in for models, dancers, athletes, and orchestra players.

Tonight, October 26, Vogue World will return Stateside, this time taking place in sunny Los Angeles. Vogue World: Hollywood will celebrate the rich conversation between film and fashion, centering the most inspiring characters in cinema history. Count on high style, high drama, and even more special performances.

Vogue World has uplifted local communities since its inception, to date donating more than $3 million. For Vogue World: Hollywood, 100% of ticket proceeds will go to the Entertainment Community Fund, with a focus on supporting costume community professionals impacted by the Los Angeles wildfires. Vogue will work with the Costume Designers Guild and E.C.F. to identify those most directly affected.

Below, everything you need to know about Vogue World: Hollywood.

When is Vogue World: Hollywood?

Vogue World: Hollywood will take place tonight, October 26, 2025.

Where will Vogue World: Hollywood be held?

The fashion and film tribute will take place on the Paramount Pictures Studios Lot in Hollywood—one of the oldest film studios in the world and the last still headquartered in the famed Los Angeles district. Famous films shot there include Sunset Boulevard, Psycho, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, and Indiana Jones.

Where will Vogue World: Hollywood be livestreamed?

Tonight’s livestream—directed by Emmy– and Grammy Award–winning director and executive producer Mark A. Ritchie—can be viewed right on vogue.com! Showtime is at 6 p.m. PDT.

How will Vogue World: Hollywood differ from previous versions of the event?

“Vogue World: Hollywood will be a one-night-only show with a huge cast of models and actors, setting great film costumes next to brilliant fashion collections,” Vogue global editorial director and Condé Nast chief content officer Anna Wintour shared at a March 2025 press conference. “By mixing fashion and the arts and culture in the center of a city, and by raising money for a cause, Vogue World has become a runway show-as-rallying cry—a way to fix the attention of a huge global audience, to bring awareness, and sound an unmistakable note of positivity, creativity, and hope.”

Will there be performances at Vogue World: Hollywood?

Yes! Tonight’s show will include special performances by Doja Cat—whose fifth studio album, Vie, was released last month—and Vogue Spain’s November 2025 cover star, Gracie Abrams.

Los Angeles is the place to be this week. Ahead of Vogue World: Hollywood, a celebration of fashion and film taking over Paramount Studios on Sunday (tune into the livestream at 6 p.m. PDT!), Vogue brought the excitement street side with an exclusive pop-up in the heart of Hollywood for one day only, on October 24. The shop offered an exclusive chance to shop the highly-anticipated collaboration with Fear of God IRL—a brand that embodies the city’s distinct blend of laid-back cool and cinematic glamour. ICYMI, or just couldn’t get your hands on the right size, the eight-piece collection is still available in-store exclusively at Maxfield LA, and online at Fear of God.

Founded by 2025 CFDA Innovation Award recipient, Jerry Lorenzo, Fear of God has long sought to distill the essence of Los Angeles in its DNA—fittingly, this capsule serves as a love letter to the brand’s hometown. “Los Angeles is home for Fear of God and a constant source of inspiration,” Lorenzo says. “From the creative energy of the Eastside to the quiet ease of kids surfing the waves in Venice; from the heart of the city in Inglewood to Hollywood’s red carpets. This partnership pays tribute to the diverse communities that define Los Angeles and the spirit of American luxury shaped through the California lifestyle.”

On the back, find an homage to the city’s iconic neighborhoods, with star detailing along the sleeves calling to mind Hollywood’s Walk of Fame. These are modern staples that feel just at home courtside as they do on Sunset Boulevard, where stardom meets seaside calm.

As Vogue global editorial director, Anna Wintour, described “Vogue World: Hollywood will be a one-night-only show with a huge cast of models and actors, setting great film costumes next to brilliant fashion collections…a runway show-as-rallying cry—a way to fix the attention of a huge global audience, to bring awareness, and sound an unmistakable note of positivity, creativity, and hope.”

Couldn’t make it to the pop-up? No worries. Shop the exclusive capsule at Maxfield Los Angeles or online at fearofgod.com.

bitchy | Mail: Duchess Meghan is getting a Harper’s Bazaar cover, not a Vogue cover

by jummy84 October 21, 2025
written by jummy84

Last Friday, there was a steady drumbeat of bad headline after bad headline about Prince Andrew, all leading up to his big move of announcing that he was giving up his ducal title and his honors. Since then, a million stories have been published about Andrew and the House of York. I bring up the timeline because it’s astonishing to see how many stories were also published about the Duchess of Sussex in the hours and days after Andrew’s big announcement. Almost as if the same old rancid courtiers, royalists and editors decided to run the exact same play they’ve been running for six-plus years: whenever Andrew is in trouble, attack the Sussexes, particularly Meghan. Well, the Mail’s Alison Boshoff had a particularly unhinged story about Meghan’s “maneuvers” this month, from Meghan’s Paris Fashion Week appearance to her Q&A session with Fortune, to her meeting with Vogue’s new editor-in-chief. They are desperate to put the most negative spin on all of this.

It was obvious from her appearance in Paris during this month’s Fashion Week that Meghan was planning to place a dainty, size-six foot in the fashion world. For while the Duchess of Sussex may have accumulated many baubles, one long-held dream still eludes her: being awarded the cover of a high-end fashion magazine. Her Paris jaunt led to much speculation she was soon to announce she had made the cover of Vogue.

Indeed Meghan, a bold networker, shared hugs and air kisses with all-powerful global Vogue boss Anna Wintour and with American Vogue’s new editor, Chloe Malle, at the Balenciaga show in Paris. She also met with Malle when she was in New York on Friday last week. The two women were seen sharing what appeared to be cocktails in a booth at the Whitby hotel.

But while I’ve been told the Duchess is intent on building up her relationship with the venerable Conde Nast magazine, and does have a fashion magazine cover in the pipeline, it is not with Vogue. Rather, my sources exclusively tell me, Meghan has made a deal to appear on the cover of Harper’s Bazaar, published by media giant Hearst.

This cover will be a first for Meghan – who made the cover of Vanity Fair while dating Prince Harry – as she has yet to land the attentions of a high-fashion magazine. (While she guest edited the September 2019 edition of Vogue, she didn’t put her own face on the cover.)

Her meetings with Vogue supremos Wintour and Malle are, I can reveal, better viewed as Meghan trying to ‘reset’ relations. Because, as we shall see, there was a falling-out between her and the then UK Vogue Editor Edward Enninful three years ago, after the Duchess made high-handed demands of him – and it did her few favours with Anna Wintour.

While there was much talk of Meghan being pictured with Wintour, few remarked on her appearance at the Balenciaga show with Samir Nasr, the editor in chief of Harpers Bazaar. But it is Harper’s which has secured the Meghan ‘scoop’.

So is Meghan ‘on manoeuvres’ –and is this magazine cover step one of a comprehensive relaunch? Meghan 3.0, if you will? Well-placed insiders tell me the sudden burst of activity – which included an appearance at the Fortune Most Powerful Women event in Washington this week – doesn’t quite indicate anything so thought-through. The source said: ‘Her PR team are just putting her out there in a hopeful way without a plan. They aren’t being discerning and protecting her from herself. It seems they think every media opportunity is a good one and that’s insane.’

The source adds: ‘There is no strategy here. It is thoughtless and directionless. One day she is in Paris at the fashion show, positioning herself in that world, and then she shows up in Washington with Fortune magazine and wants to be regarded as a female founder. But she’s got nothing to launch, nothing to announce and nothing to say. It’s a mess. The Sussexes seem to be spiralling. They are throwing spaghetti at the wall and seeing what sticks. I don’t understand why she would do a magazine cover when she has nothing coming out. It is evident that either she isn’t being advised properly or else she isn’t listening. Honestly, whoever is in charge shouldn’t even be putting this stuff in front of her, to protect her from herself.’

[From The Daily Mail]

You have to understand the “magical thinking” that goes alongside these stories. What could have been a simple exclusive (which may or may not be true) about Meghan appearing on the cover of Harper’s Bazaar has to be twisted into “Meghan is desperate for a fashion cover, she has nothing to announce except for all of her projects, Anna Wintour hates her, believe us!!” Anna Wintour doesn’t hate her, and I strongly suspect that Meghan has been offered the cover of American Vogue before and turned it down. I also suspect that Meghan has turned down other fashion covers before. Just because the Mail’s lunatic-asylum sources claim that Meghan’s strategy is a “mess” does not make it so. These people are too stupid to understand how a woman could appear at a fashion show AND be a female founder.

ERL Resort 2026 Collection | Vogue

Per Eli Russell Linnetz, you should view this lookbook less in a G.I. Joe or Warfare kind of way—the latter being the recent Iraq war film starring Kit Connor, Charles Melton, and Joseph Quinn—and consider it more in the spirit of Andy playing with his miniature green soldier figurines in Toy Story. Only with a side of the hallucinatory darkness of Francis Coppola’s 1979 Apocalypse Now—and, of course, the intensity of its source material, Joseph Conrad’s 1899 novella Heart of Darkness.

Which is to say, look at these images less as Linnetz’s glorification of warfare, or as a pro-military portrait, and consider it his examination of the presence of conflict in our daily lives. Apropos, in addition to the war movie references, Linnetz also mentioned the film Big Wednesday, a 1978 bildungsroman that portrays a group of surfers in Malibu, California, and their attempts to dodge the Vietnam War draft, the events of which push them into adulthood.

Linnetz titled this resort delivery Surplus, in reference to the surplus store as a constant presence in “a deep corner of American consciousness.” (For those not born and raised in the US, the surplus store is a retail repository of excess gear, military or otherwise; they tend to have both the charm of places selling lots for cheap things and the heaviness of haunted objects and the ephemera of past lives.) Linnetz repurposed surplus stock, which he said he’s been collecting for years, and placed it alongside his more luxurious interpretations. Patch-worked parkas and jackets were in the mix alongside ERL camouflage separates, supple Donegal sweaters, and cool-looking cargos in fantastically overdyed fabrics.

Imagery of war is heavy and conversations around it, particularly in the US, a country known for its bellicosity around the world, are nuanced and complex. But they don’t always have to be if we let our moral compasses lead North. Linnetz said he is far removed from news cycles and trending topics, and that he looks at ERL as a project that explores pockets of American culture from both a human and an apparel perspective. With ERL, he’s carved a niche as one of the truest believers in American fashion’s vernacular and presence in the global fabric of sportswear. And by building his assortments narrative-first, often mining nostalgia by telling stories of skaters or prom-goers or bike riders, he’s managed to make those narratives a selling point. The caveat this time is that it’s a complicated moment for camouflage and military motifs. Still, there’s no arguing that Linnetz’s timing is often spot-on when it comes to his cultural commentary.

The Vogue Guide to Formal Attire

The Vogue Guide to Formal Attire

by jummy84 August 24, 2025
written by jummy84

There’s nothing quite like the mini stomach flip that comes from seeing the words “formal attire” printed on an invitation. First comes the excitement of having an opportunity to get dressed up. Then, the panic of not knowing exactly what is acceptable to wear.

After all, the lines can get a bit blurry, especially with all the subsects of formalwear that often get thrown around. To wit, there’s semi-formal, which is often conflated with cocktail dress codes, as well as beach formal, which is sometimes the rule for destination weddings.

Aside from weddings or the occasional gala, however, there are many reasons why one would need formal attire in their arsenal. After all, we’re in the age of the opulent birthday, the glamorous holiday, and the niche-themed soiree—some of which will require a more polished dress code. To make deciphering all these invites a little easier, here’s what to know about formal attire.

What is formal attire, exactly?

To keep things simple, “formal attire” is generally reserved for evening events. It is considered slightly less elevated than black tie and the more rare, ‘white tie’ requirements–unless noted otherwise by the host of the event, of course. (Usually the exact requirements for black or white tie are explicitly stated on the invite or save the date.)

That said, formal attire does require a certain reverence and gravitas. “It is truly a way of showing respect for celebratory or historic occasions such as weddings, confirmations, funerals, state dinners, academic, and diplomatic affairs,” notes Amanda Jane Valentine, a luxury fashion consultant who has dressed celebrities like Lady Gaga, Kendall Jenner, and Hailey Bieber. “We are all aware that how we dress communicates volumes before we open our mouths or as soon as we enter a room. Formal attire amplifies this assumption and reveals social hierarchy, awareness, and class.”

Dakota Johnson’s black, ankle-length gown look fits the rules of formal attire.

Do’s and don’ts of formal attire for women

At a base level, this means women should opt for dresses that fall well below the knee; in some cases a floor or ankle-length option are most appropriate. If a free-flowing frock isn’t your thing, a sharply-tailored suit has proved to be a great options for both men and women–think of the posh Dior tuxedo that Sarah Jessica Parker’s character Carrie Bradshaw wore in the opening scenes of the second Sex and the City movie, with platform stilettos nonetheless. A jumpsuit with capped sleeves or thick shoulder straps, as well as full ball skirts a lá Kendall Jenner at the Met Gala, are also suitable alternatives.

Formal attire fabrics for women

Unless you’re attending a beach ceremony, it’s best to steer clear of fabrics like cotton-poplin or gauzy linen, as it has a casualness about it that will appear out of place in more traditional settings. In its place, consider more stately materials like tulle or duchess satin and crepe de chine. Embellishments aren’t necessarily a stipulation but are encouraged if you want to stand out. Sequin beads and delicate embroidery are some of the most common adornments–though feathers and fil-coupe are thrown in the mix from time to time, as well.

While elegance is a hallmark of formal attire, Tbilisi-born designer David Koma notes that this doesn’t mean you can’t express your personality within the dress code. “While traditional notions of elegance and sophistication remain timeless, there has been a noticeable shift towards more diverse and inclusive representations of beauty and femininity,” he explains. “Designers are increasingly embracing innovative techniques and diverse perspectives to meet the evolving needs.”

It’s back to the classics for Tibi’s latest collection. “Resort is one of those seasons where we lean into all of the things that we really really love,” said Amy Smilovic at her lower Manhattan showroom. “We wanted to tap into a really strong sense of color; there’s something really fresh about having a solid group of neutrals with some stronger, brighter colors that aren’t preppy or even overly sporty, but are optimistic.” On the racks, an ocean of multiple shades of brown—or “ring 2” on the brand’s color wheel—with only Kelly green and red at the ready to liven things up. “It’s our go-to. And then everything else is built from there,” Smilovic added. It was in textures instead where the designer and her team indulged: acid-wash denim, leather, double-faced cashmere, quilted satins, alpaca wool, metallic mesh, and a classic black-on-white polka-dot alive with the motion of a paintbrush mark.

There was a general sportswear influence throughout: a sleek long-sleeve dress with a racer-back cutout, fully-functional tear-away pants, V-neck sweaters worn over sporty zippered dickies, and a ski-inspired jumpsuit which Smilovic declared she’d like to wear “by itself with a little tank underneath,” but the highlight was certainly the re-imagined tailoring done up in Italian sporty nylon—like a jacket with a cinched waist and a built-in layered zip-up hoodie in a lighter nylon material. Elsewhere, light-as-air crinkly silver pieces were reminiscent of the space blankets used by runners post-race. “It’s not a palate cleanse, but it’s just establishing the foundation for some of the things that you’ll see coming down the pike for a spring and fall.” On your marks….
