Did Shah Rukh Khan Really ‘Struggle’ in Bollywood? A Friend’s Claims Upset The Myth

Did Shah Rukh Khan Really ‘Struggle’ in Bollywood? A Friend’s Claims Upset The Myth

by jummy84 November 8, 2025
written by jummy84

When one of Bollywood’s most enduring superstar stories meets a dose of revisionism, it makes for complex headlines. Veteran producer-actor Viveck Vaswani has just made waves by claiming that Shah Rukh Khan never faced the kind of hardship commonly attributed to his “outsider” narrative. According to Vaswani, the actor arrived in Mumbai and was promptly housed in the posh Cuffe Parade locality—far removed from the myth of sleeping on pavements or struggling to make ends meet.

Vaswani, who sheltered Shah Rukh in the early 1990s and collaborated with him on his early film outings, said candidly: “Not once did he struggle from the road. He was living in Cuffe Parade. After he got married and needed a place, director Aziz Mirza helped with a house in Bandra.” He further underlines that Shah Rukh was treated with “kid gloves” from day one—from directors, neighbours and the small circle of industry friends who backed him. This stands in stark contrast to the oft-repeated “Delhi boy with nothing arrives in Mumbai and fights his way to superstardom” narrative.

For decades, Shah Rukh has answered questions about his background with the story of being a Non-Resident Delhi lad, coming from a non-filmy family, to conquer Bollywood. At the WAVES 2025 summit, for example, he insisted that what matters is not where you come from but how you make your place. He said, “I also have a problem with the distinction of the outsider and insider… where you come from is not important.” Yet Vaswani’s remarks suggest that the “struggler” tag may deserve a fresh read.

Why does this matter? Because the myth of the struggling outsider holds immense cultural currency in India. When a star like Shah Rukh is framed as having “nothing” and “coming from nowhere,” it becomes an inspirational tale—one that feeds into how audiences imagine merit, ambition and the “dream” of Bollywood. But if the scaffolding of that myth shifts—if it emerges that he was housed in luxury from the start or supported by key insiders—it challenges foundational parts of how we imagine “rags to riches” in entertainment.

There are multiple layers here. On one level, Vaswani is defending his friend and the industry: he argues the narrative laid out by Shah Rukh’s son Aryan Khan’s series—which painted Bollywood as cut-throat and filtering outsiders through narrow filters—was unrecognisably bleak compared to the experience Vaswani remembers. On another level, we confront the broader question of how star-mythologies are constructed. Did Shah Rukh truly struggle? Or did he start from a place of relative comfort Yes. And does it matter? Perhaps less for his star credentials, more for how future aspirants frame their own dreams.

What Vaswani’s comments force us to ask: If one of Bollywood’s biggest names did not face the “zero” baseline struggle, does the notion of “outsider triumph” change? Does the industry become less about overcoming and more about being well-placed, well-connected, well-served? The answer is probably a mix—but the discourse matters.

Shah Rukh’s own responses suggest discomfort at being boxed into “outsider” labels, especially when he emphasises that his world always believed he belonged: “When I came here I never thought I was an outsider, I believed this is my world.” That said, the segment of film-culture and fandom that elevates struggling origins still persists. For them, Vaswani’s remarks may feel like a burst of cold water in a warm mantra.

At the same time, this is not a plea to diminish Shah Rukh’s achievements. His body of work, charisma, connection with fans and sustained success across decades are undeniable. But narratives matter—and when they are at odds with personal recollections, the gap becomes a space of critique. It also opens up questions of how the industry itself re-works mythologies: how star origin stories are edited, adapted and polished to fit the rhetoric of merit or destiny.

What could the consequences be? For aspirants, it might shift the email: success requires not just talent, hunger and hard work—but also support systems: housing, industry contacts and early-stage access. For commentary on nepotism versus outsider debates, it complicates neat binaries. Shah Rukh may still qualify as an “outsider” in terms of lineage—but he doesn’t necessarily fit the full classic trope of the struggling outsider.

For the audience, moments like this prompt a rethink. When we say “he built himself up from nothing”, do we mean literally nothing? Or do we mean lack of film family? When we celebrate the outsider victory, are we erasing the systems that held up an early path? Vaswani is effectively saying: I lived that era with him. I housed him. I watched him go from Delhi to Bandra to stardom. The narrative of hardship exists—but not always the one we expect.

In an industry enamoured by sloganeering about hunger, it matters to know that Shah Rukh himself said “hunger and ambition” are “lofty words” that don’t fully explain the realities. That candid statement, combined with Vaswani’s account, underscores that the storytelling we absorb about stardom may need more nuance.

In the final analysis, one doesn’t need to discard the outsider label entirely. Shah Rukh lacked scripted industry lineage—he didn’t arrive as a star-kid with immediate launch pad. But neither did he arrive as homeless, struggling to get a break—according to those who knew him then. And maybe that complexity is where the real story lives: not in a mythic ladder-climb, but in a network-in-motion guided by talent, timing and access.

For Bollywood’s lore, this moment is significant: one of its biggest icons now has a friend offering a counter-commentary to his origin story. What changes? Maybe not the films, maybe not the fan love—but perhaps the way we talk about the “struggler” myth going forward.

Drew Barrymore Wins in Upset Over Kelly Clarkson

by jummy84 October 18, 2025
written by jummy84

After five years of winning in at least one of her two categories, Kelly Clarkson was shut out at the 2025 Daytime Emmys. The awards were held at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium in Pasadena, Calif., on Friday (Oct. 17). Mario Lopez hosted the show.

Drew Barrymore won outstanding daytime talk series host for The Drew Barrymore Show. This is the second year in a row that Clarkson has been upset in this category (which she won the four years before that). She lost last year to Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos, the married stars of the syndicated Live With Kelly and Mark.

This year, Live With Kelly and Mark won outstanding daytime talk series, ending (or at least interrupting) The Kelly Clarkson Show’s four-year hold on the category. This is the second top program award for the long-running Live franchise. Live! with Regis and Kelly (when Ripa teamed with talk show legend Regis Philbin) won outstanding talk show – entertainment in 2012.

Barrymore has had a multi-faceted career, starting as a child star in E.T.: The Extra Terrestrial. In 2018 she was the subject of Bryce Vine’s Billboard Hot 100 hit “Drew Barrymore.”

The Drew Barrymore Show also won best directing team and best hairstyling/makeup, for a total of three wins. The Kelly Clarkson Show won two – best lighting direction and best live sound mixing/sound editing.

General Hospital won seven awards, tops for the night, followed by The Drew Barrymore Show, The Secret Lives of Animals and Secret Lives of Orangutans (three awards each), and Black Barbie, Days of Our Lives, Delicious Miss Brown, Disney Parks Magical Christmas Day Parade, Entertainment Tonight and The Kelly Clarkson Show (two awards each).

Entertainment Tonight won outstanding entertainment news series for the sixth consecutive year, while the host team (Cassie DiLaura, Denny Directo, Kevin Frazier, Rachel Smith and Nischelle Turner) won outstanding daytime personality – daily. But an ET-branded program remembering a TV legend, Bob Newhart: A Legacy of Laughter, An Entertainment Tonight Special, surprisingly lost outstanding daytime special to Disney Parks Magical Christmas Day Parade.

Sir David Attenborough, 99, won outstanding daytime personality – non-daily for the Netflix program, Secret Lives of Orangutans. In so doing, he set a new record as the oldest person to win a Daytime Emmy, beating Dick Van Dyke’s record by one year. Van Dyke won outstanding guest performer in a drama series last year at 98 for his performance on Days of Our Lives.

Selena Gomez’s Food Network series Selena + Restaurant was nominated for outstanding culinary instructional series, but lost to Delicious Miss Brown on the Food Network. Gomez has now gone 0-3 at the Daytime Emmys, 0-5 at the Primetime Emmys and 0-1 at the Children’s and Family Emmys. (Bottom line: She is due for a win.)

Three top entertainment media brands – Billboard, Variety and The Hollywood Reporter – were recognized in the nominations (though none wound up winning). Billboard Presents was nominated for outstanding short form program. Variety Studio: Actors on Actors and Off Script With the Hollywood Reporter were both nominated for outstanding arts and popular culture program.

Billboard Presents are the video cover profiles that Billboard produces for some of its cover artists. The specific episode submitted for the series was the cover video with conductor Gustavo Dudamel. Other Billboard Presents segments include cover videos with A$AP Rocky, Tyler, The Creator and Charli XCX.

The In Memoriam segment included talk show pioneer Phil Donahue; game show hosts Chuck Woolery, Peter Marshall and Wink Martindale; fitness guru and personality Richard Simmons; televangelist Jimmy Swaggart; acting legend James Earl Jones; and Food Network star Anne Burrell.

The awards are presented annually by the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. If it seems like more than a year has gone by since the last Daytime Emmys, you’re right. Last year’s Daytime Emmys were held on June 7, 2024 the Westin Bonaventure Hotel in Los Angeles.

Unlike the past five years, when the show aired on CBS, this year’s program streamed live on watch.theemmys.tv and on the Emmys app.

Veteran broadcast journalist Deborah Norville received a lifetime achievement honor.

Sunita Ahuja Breaks Silence On Govinda’s Affair Rumors: “I’m 100% Upset” | Glamsham.com

by jummy84 September 30, 2025
written by jummy84

Veteran Bollywood star Govinda’s personal life is again in the news with speculation about a break-up with wife Sunita Ahuja. Rumors had started circulating earlier this year that the 37-year-old couple were on the brink of divorce as Govinda had an affair with a 30-year-old Marathi actress. Now, in her recent vlog appearance with Sambhavna Seth, Sunita has freely discussed the matter, exposing the emotional agony she has endured.

Though Sunita did not deny the affair, she owned up to hearing the gossip and voiced her annoyance. “If I ever catch him cheating, I will be the first to alert the media,” she said firmly. She continued to claim that there are some members of Govinda’s family who wouldn’t want them to be happy. “They ask why our family is so happy, considering that their own families have experienced tragedies.”. Govinda does not socialize with good people. As I always say, if you hang out with bad people, you end up becoming like them,” she replied, stating that her only shelter today is her children.

Speaking about her living conditions, Sunita disclosed that she and Govinda have not cohabited for the last 15 years, even though he lives with her frequently. “We’ve been face-to-face but separately living. I gave him my entire life. Even today, I love him very much. But yes, I’m 100% angry because I hear everything too,” she stated, but said she keeps going strong because of her kids.

Speaking on the scandals regarding Govinda’s affair with a younger actress, Sunita didn’t mince her words. “Girls these days enter the industry searching for sugar daddies. They believe pocket money and a ceiling over their head would come their way. Until I catch them, it’s okay, but if I do—then you’ll find my ‘Sunny Deol’ side,” she threatened.

When Sambhavna Seth asked her if she thought it was time to address the matter, Sunita had this to say, “It’s shameful. At this age, with grown children, what are you doing? Even the kids are asking questions. But some people are so accustomed to telling lies that they just keep lying.”

In spite of the upheaval, the couple was spotted celebrating Ganesh Chaturthi together recently, officially refuting any split. Govinda, on the other hand, has not been seen on the big screen since 2019’s Rangeela Raja. Their son, Yashvardhan Ahuja, is now gearing up for his Bollywood debut in Sai Rajesh’s next film.

bitchy | VF: Prince William ‘is more upset’ with Harry than ever, wants nothing to do with him

by jummy84 September 14, 2025
written by jummy84

Katie Nicholl at Vanity Fair had a somewhat interesting new piece, published last Friday. I’m sure it was supposed to be “Harry is flying back home to America, here’s where things stand,” except that Harry ruined all of the palace talking points by traveling undercover to Ukraine on Friday. It seems a bit silly and superficial for the palace to still play these games while Harry was literally in a warzone. Still, why waste Nicholl’s perfectly good “sources close to Prince William?” According to those sources, William is somehow, remarkably, even more upset with Harry than ever before. LMAO. Peggy’s been stewing in his own rage-juices, it seems.

Prince Harry “loved” being back in the UK and “catching up” with his charities during his four-day tour, his official spokesman has said. Now, sources close to the Duke tell Vanity Fair that Harry hopes to bring his family to the UK “very soon.” One old acquaintance of the Duke said Harry has “high hopes” for a long-term reconciliation with his father King Charles and is already making plans to bring his wife, Meghan Markle and their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, back to Britain.

“It pains him that Archie and Lilibet don’t know their grandfather. One of his biggest regrets is that his grandmother, the Queen, didn’t spend more time with his children, he’s keen that he doesn’t have the same regrets with his father.”

However, while Harry and his father are presently back on speaking terms,Vanity Fair can reveal that relations between Harry and his brother Prince William remain at a low point. Despite being in Windsor, just minutes from William and Kate Middleton’s family home, Harry had “zero” communication with his brother.

“Their relationship is at an all-time low,” a source, who knows the brothers well, said. “It’s as if something has pushed William even further away from the prospect of a reconciliation. He is adamant that he wants nothing to do with his brother. He is more upset with him than ever.”

It is thought that William was incensed about Harry’s comments to the BBC, in which he said he did not know how long his father had left to live after being diagnosed with cancer. William was said to find the comments deeply offensive and insensitive.

The brothers have barely spoken in the past two years following the publication of Harry’s bombshell memoir, Spare, in which he revealed how he and William had come to physical blows and had been sibling rivals for decades. William was also deeply upset when Harry revealed that Kate had not been welcoming to Meghan, and there had been an issue when Meghan had asked to borrow Kate’s lip gloss.

Meanwhile, Harry hopes that this latest visit to the UK will lead to him being able to return more often if the issue over his security can be resolved. After losing a High Court case and appeal for government-funded police protection, Harry, no longer a working royal, has to fund his own protection. However, this week’s visit showed he can work and travel safely in the country.

[From Vanity Fair]

I’m dying at those quotes about William. Was the source trying to set him up and make him seem super-childish? “He is adamant that he wants nothing to do with his brother. He is more upset with him than ever.” Harry and William have not said or written one word to each other directly since 2022, correct? And every time Harry travels to the UK, William is the one thrashing around, screaming “I will never speak to Harry!” So what happened? “It’s as if something has pushed William even further away from the prospect of a reconciliation.” What is that something? I’m really asking. It’s not what Harry said to the BBC in May. Please, William doesn’t give a sh-t about Harry saying “I don’t know how much time my father has left.” CHARLES cared about that, but not William. I think the “something” which pushed William further away was the dawning realization that Harry really isn’t coming back to do Willy’s work. Not only that, but Harry is super-happy in America and Harry has an amazing life with Meghan and their children. William is incandescent with jealousy and it’s eating him alive.

PS… As predicted last week, this VF piece marks the start of William’s two-week rage-briefing. There’s also a piece published in the Mail on Sunday in which “sources close to William” are saying similar things. We’ll cover talk about the Mail piece on Monday, alongside the Emmy coverage. Please don’t threadjack, but as I said, these are all William’s talking points, that he’s even angrier with Harry than ever before.

EXCLUSIVE: ‘Upset’ Deepshikha Nagpal REACTS To Farrhana Bhatt Calling Kunickaa Anand ‘Flop Actress’

by jummy84 September 13, 2025
written by jummy84

During an argument, Farrhana Bhatt called Kunickaa Sadanand a flop actress, and to this, the latter’s friend Dipshikkha Nagppal responded by questioning the former. In an exclusive interview with Bollywood Bubble, the veteran actress backed Kunickaa being called a flop actress by Farrhana. She questioned if Sadanand had worked for over 40 years, how could she be a flop actress? Scroll down to read below and watch the full interview.

Dipshikka Nagppal REACTS To Farrhana Bhatt Calling Kunickaa Sadanand A Flop Actress

When asked about Farrhana Bhatt calling Kunickaa Sadanand a ‘Flop Actress’ in Bigg Boss 19, Dipshikkha Nagppal responded, “I saw that on Weekend Ka Vaar, they said ‘flop actress hai.’ And I said, dusron ko flop bolne se pehle tumne kya kiya, pehle woh toh dekho. Who are these people? I only know them because they are in Bigg Boss. How can you accuse somebody’s character and somebody’s work? 40 saal se kaam karti aa rahi hai woh, flop actress kaise ho sakti hai? Toh aap kisi aur ke baare mein bolne se pehle, pehle khud toh bano, baad mein kisi ko batao. So I was very upset. And I am very happy Salman sir ne barabar jawab diya — and it was good, deserves it.”

What Happened Between Farrhana Bhatt-Kunickaa Sadanand?

On Bigg Boss 19, contestant Farrhana Bhatt called fellow housemate Kunickaa Sadanand a “flop actress” during a heated argument in early September 2025. The clash happened shortly after Farrhana returned to the main house from a secret room. Kunickaa confronted Farrhana for using derogatory language toward another housemate, Neelam Giri, and the fight escalated quickly.

Farrhana initially hurled insults at Neelam Giri, whom Kunickaa then defended. Bhatt then turned her verbal attack on Sadanand, calling her a “flop actress” and also making personal remarks about her parenting. Farrhana questioned what Kunickaa’s children would think seeing her on TV. Other housemates like Baseer Ali and Gaurav Khanna, attempted to intervene, but Farrhana refused to back down.

This personal attack later led to an emotional moment during a Weekend Ka Vaar episode, when Kunickaa’s son, Ayaan Lall, appeared on the show to support his mother and respond to Farrhana’s comments.
