Who Is Charlie Kirk?

Kirk was a right-wing political commentator and activist, having stood by the president’s side throughout his 2024 campaign. He was credited by Trump himself for helping mobilize the youth vote in the Republican Party’s favor.

The 31-year-old was the founder of Turning Point USA: a nonprofit that advocates for conservatives on college campuses, and he hosted his radio talk show, “The Charlie Kirk Show,” on Salem Media’s “The Answer” channel.

Kirk was also a member of the United States Air Force Academy Board of Visitors, which “inquires into the morale, discipline, curriculum, instruction, physical equipment, fiscal affairs, academic methods and other matters relating to the Academy which the Board decides to consider.”

Kirk was struck after shots were fired at Utah Valley University during the afternoon on September 10. As seen in videos online, Kirk was hit and slumped down in his seat before blood ran down his neck.

Who Shot Charlie Kirk?

The identity of the shooter has not been disclosed to the public at the time of publication. University officials initially claimed that a suspect was taken into custody, but CNN later reported that no one was in custody.

“[Kirk] was hit and taken from the location by his security,” Utah Valley University noted in a statement. “Campus police is investigating, a suspect is in custody.”

Shots were fired from a nearby campus building about 200 yards away from where Kirk was speaking, per CNN.

Erin Bates’ Husband Shares Worrying Update on ‘Bringing Up Bates’ Star After ‘Severe Seizure’

After the birth of her seventh baby with husband Chad Paine on August 25, Erin Bates developed a severe UTI and kidney infection, which sent her into septic shock. In the latest update from Paine, he revealed how things have recently taken a turn for the worse.

Taking to Instagram on Thursday (September 4), Paine shared how Erin “suffered a lengthy and severe seizure” on Wednesday night (September 3), leaving her “extremely weak” and “only half conscious.” He noted that his wife is currently in the ICU and “doctors are running scans and tests to determine the cause.”

“Up to this point, Erin’s infection was getting better, but we found ourselves back in a place of heartache, uncertainty, and tears,” he wrote in an emotional post alongside photos of himself by his wife’s bedside. “As her husband, it is one of the hardest things I’ve ever faced — to sit by her side and watch her struggle while being so helpless to ease her suffering.”

He went on to say he “can’t even imagine life without my best friend,” adding, “We hold on to faith that healing is coming, even in the midst of the unknown. Your prayers are felt and we are forever grateful.”

Erin, who now shares seven children with Paine, was one of the stars of the reality series Bringing Up Bates, the Up TV series that centered on the daily lives of Gil and Kelly Jo Bates, their 19 children, and their extended family. The show ran for ten seasons between 2015 and 2021.

Previously, Paine announced the arrival of baby number seven, Henry Blythe, born on August 25th after “a long and emotional labor,” according to his August 27 Instagram post. “Henry is doing wonderful, but we would so appreciate your prayers for Erin as she continues to recover from some complications,” Paine wrote at the time.

Fans, friends, and family jumped into the comments of Paine’s latest post to share their prayers and well-wishes.

“We are continuing to pray every day for a miraculous healing. Love you all,” wrote Erin’s brother, Lawson Bates.

Lawson’s wife, former Nickelodeon star Tiffany Espensen, added, “Our thoughts, prayers, and love are with you Paine Family ❤️ We love y’all so much!”

“Sweet Erin 😭💔 Praying right now for her complete healing, and will continue!” wrote another.

“Chad, we are upholding you all in prayer daily 🙏🏻,” said one commenter.

Another added, “Thank you so much for taking time to update us. I know this has to be unimaginably hard.”

“This is so hard to read. I’m praying for Erin,” added one user.

Back in December 2024, he credited early detection with helping him catch the cancer before it spread. He underwent surgery, though sadly, the illness returned.

Raja Jackson, an MMA fighter and son of famous former UFC champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson, shocked the world when he appeared to assault Syko Stu on August 23, 2025, leading to the latter’s hospitalization. A video of the brutal incident went viral, and Rampage provided an update on Syko’s condition.

“I want to clear up the misinformation about my son Raja,” Rampage tweeted after the fight. “Raja was unexpectedly hit in the side of the head by him moments before Smith’s match, [and] Raja was told that he could get his ‘payback’ in the ring.”

Thinking that his son’s participation was “part of the show,” Rampage admitted he used “bad judgment” and called it “a work that went wrong.”

“Raja is a MMA fighter not a pro wrestler and had no business involved in an event like this,” Rampage continued, before adding, “I don’t condone my son’s actions AT ALL! He suffered a concussion from sparring only days ago and had no business doing anything remotely close to physical contact.”

Syko is a professional wrestler, and his real name is Stuart Smith. According to multiple outlets, Syko served in the army until 2009. He eventually made his wrestling debut in 2017 and is based in California.

As seen in the viral video, Raja slid into the ring and charged at Syko before throwing the latter to the ground. He proceeded to straddle and violently punch an already motionless Syko.

Initially, multiple individuals, including Rampage and KnokK Pro Entertainment and Academy wrestler Douglas Malo, said that Syko and Raja’s tussle was planned.

“This is so shocking because they were supposed to do a small spot, and before you know it, he’s raining down punches,” Douglas told TMZ after the fight. Douglas ran into the ring to try and remove Raja, but he accused the latter of trying to attack him as well. Douglas also claimed that children and families were in the stands and witnessed the brutal beating.

Update on Syko Stu After Raja Jackson Assault

Syko was “awake and stable” as of August 24, 2025, according to Rampage. Rampage added in his public X statement, “As a father, I’m deeply concerned with [Raja’s] health AND the well being of Mr. Smith. That being said, I’m very upset that any of this happened, but my main concern now is that Mr. Smith will make a speedy recovery. I apologize on his behalf and to KICK for the situation.”

TMZ also reported that Syko was “fine and recovering.”

Syko has not publicly commented on his fight with Raja.

‘Red, White & Royal Blue’ Author Clarifies Sequel Update

Two years later, fans of Red, White & Royal Blue might be in for a happy ending soon.

After saying at a recent event that “pencils are kind of down for now” on the sequel, the literary source material’s author Casey McQuiston clarified the phrase on social media to put fans’ minds at ease.

“I don’t know who needs to hear this, but ‘pencils down’ is a figure of speech that refers to when you’re taking the SAT or something and it’s time to put your pencil down bc the section of the test is done,” wrote McQuiston on their Instagram Story, according to DNA. “I’ve used this expression, like 100,000 times to describe the feeling of turning in a manuscript, it’s not that deep!”

Last May, Amazon MGM Studios announced they greenlighted development on the sequel after the first became Prime Video’s No. 1 movie in its global debut weekend, holding the position for three weeks.

Noting that there is no sequel to McQuiston’s original 2019 on which to base his sequel, writer-director Matthew López previously told Deadline that the author will still factor into the movie.

“When we were starting this process, I kept saying that we’ll have succeeded at this adaptation…if you feel the same way at the end of the film, as you felt finishing the book,” said López last year. “There’s no book to guide us, but what we have is Casey’s original thoughts and original ideas.”

Taylor Zakhar Perez and Nicholas Galitzine reunite for the sequel, which also sees López returning after making his feature debut with the original, penning the followup alongside McQuiston. Berlanti Schechter Films’ Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter will return to produce the film, joined by the banner’s Michael McGrath, as well as López. McQuiston will executive produce.

Lil Nas X (real name: Montero Lamar Hill) caused widespread concern in August 2025 when he was seen roaming through the streets of Studio City in Los Angeles, California, in nothing but underwear and cowboy boots before dawn. It was subsequently revealed that the award-winning rapper may have had an overdose and was arrested. Yes, according to CNN, Lil Nas X was hospitalized for a “possible overdose.” Public information officer Charles Miller told the outlet that the rapper had been taken into custody by police after he was seen roaming around on Ventura Boulevard in L.A. in late August 2025.

No, Lil Nas X is no longer in a hospital, according to Miller, who told CNN that the “INDUSTRY BABY” rapper had been take into police custody after he was taken to a nearby hospital for an evaluation of an overdose.

Miller told CNN that Lil Nas X was arrested because he allegedly “charged” at his arresting police officers.

Were the Menendez Brothers Released? Update on Lyle and Erik Today – Hollywood Life

In 1989, Lyle and Erik Menendez — then aged 21 and 18, respectively — sparked a highly publicized trial after brutally murdering their parents in their Beverly Hills mansion. The case resurfaced in recent years with renewed interest, largely thanks to Ryan Murphy‘s Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story, followed by a Netflix documentary that featured previously unreleased phone call recordings between the brothers and director Alejandro Hartmann. With the series, documentaries, and ongoing public interest, many are still wondering if the Menendez brothers have a chance of being released from prison.

After their court hearing was pushed back multiple times in early 2025, their parole hearing is now taking place on August 21 and 22, 2025.

What Did Lyle and Erik Menendez Do?

The brothers murdered their parents, José and Mary Louise “Kitty” Menéndez, in 1989 with shotguns. After committing the crime, Lyle and Erik spent an estimated $700,000 of their inheritance, according to Time Magazine. They became suspects when Erik confessed to their psychologist, Dr. Jerome Oziel, during a therapy session.

Oziel’s mistress, Judalon Smyth, later reported the confession to the police. Despite the doctor-patient confidentiality typically afforded in therapy, Oziel played a significant role in the brothers’ trials, claiming they had threatened his life.

Were the Menendez Brothers Released from Prison?

Lyle and Erik have not been released yet, but they are scheduled for a parole hearing in August 2025. They were originally sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, a habeas corpus petition citing new evidence could have led to new sentences for the two siblings. The 2023 petition includes a sworn statement from former Menudo member Roy Rosselló, who alleged that he was sexually assaulted by the brothers’ father, José, in the 1980s. Additionally, the petition highlights a letter Erik wrote to a cousin months before the killings, suggesting he was a victim of abuse. At the time, former District Attorney George Gascón confirmed that a new court hearing was scheduled for November 29, 2024.

Gascón also filed a motion on October 30, 2024, supporting the Menendez brothers’ request for clemency from Governor Gavin Newsom. Describing the brothers as “model prisoners,” Gascón told CNN that he believes there is a strong likelihood they would be granted parole if the case reaches the parole board. An attorney for one of the brothers expressed hope that they could be home in time for Thanksgiving.

However, Gascón was replaced by former federal prosecutor Nathan Hochman, who took office on December 2, 2024. A resentencing hearing, initially scheduled for December 11, 2024, was postponed. On November 25, 2024, Judge Jesic explained that he needed more time to review the case and wanted to give District Attorney Hochman the same opportunity. The new hearing dates were set for January 30 and 31, 2025, but were postponed again.

The Menendez brothers were scheduled to return to court on March 20, 2025, for a hearing to determine if they should be resentenced. However, DA Hochman announced he asked the court to reject Lyle and Erik’s request for a new trial.

“We looked again at the credibility of the letters, particularly this Andy Cano 1988 supposed letter weighed in the continuum of lies, and it calls into drastic question whether this is in fact a 1988 letter written by Erik Menendez to Andy Cano about this sexual abuse,” Hochman said.

In February 2025, ahead of their hearing, California GovernorNewsom urged the parole board to conduct a thorough risk assessment of the Menendez brothers. This investigation will determine whether they would pose a danger to the public if granted parole.

A month later, weeks before their resentencing hearing, Hochman said he did not support the brothers’ possible resentencing and claimed that Lyle and Erik have been telling “lies” for decades. Judge Jesic held a hearing on April 11 to announce that resentencing proceedings would continue on April 17 and 18, 2025.

According to NBC News in Los Angeles, Anamaria Baralt, a cousin of the Menendez brothers, said, “There have been some delays in this process that were unforeseeable, like the wildfires, that, of course, we have great patience for. This is another delay that is not so much, but we will continue to show up as a family.”

On day one of their resentencing hearing, Judge Michael Jesic ruled that the Menendez brothers can be resentenced to 50 years to life, which would effectively make the siblings eligible for parole. The California state parole board would also need to consider the case and issue a ruling on their potential release, which could take months, according to multiple outlets.

Where Are Lyle and Erik Now?

Both Lyle and Erik are at the Richard J. Donovan Correctional Facility in California. They were reunited in 2018 at the prison, after initially being sent to separate prisons following their 1996 conviction.

During their time apart, Lyle spoke to People in 2017, sharing that, despite the crime, the ordeal brought them closer. They stayed in touch by playing chess through the mail and writing letters to each other.  “We’re not twins, but when you’ve gone through the kind of chaotic childhood that we had, it’s almost like you are. You have that bond and that shared experience,” he said.

The brothers were sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the murders of their parents. Their trials began in 1993, and they were found guilty in 1996.
