Tribeca Festival and AT&T Launch Applications for Untold Stories With $1.2 Million in Prizes

The Tribeca Festival and AT&T have increased their AT&T Untold Stories program’s top production prize from $1 million to $1.2 million for the festival’s 25th anniversary in 2026. The program, which provides funding, empowerment and support for emerging filmmakers, is the largest unrestricted film production award of its kind in the world.

The program launched in 2017 and each year awards one new filmmaker full funding to produce a feature along with mentorship, support and a guaranteed premiere at the Tribeca Festival. Since its inception, the program has supported 40 projects and produced eight winning films, some of which have garnered distribution on major platforms such as Netflix and HBO Max.

“Independent filmmaking has never been tougher, and too many vital stories never make it to the screen. Untold Stories changes that,” said Jane Rosenthal, CEO and Co-Founder of Tribeca Enterprises. “It doesn’t just give filmmakers the means to create — it helps ensure their work is seen. With funding, mentorship, and distribution support, the program opens doors that might otherwise stay shut. This expanded prize will give bold storytellers the chance to dream bigger, go further, and reach the audiences their stories deserve.”

Applications for the 2026 Untold Stories award are now open and close on Feb. 6. The winner will receive the $1.2 million grant at next year’s festival.

United States Department of Homeland Security Responds to Anti-ICE Lyrics in Zach Bryan Song Snippet

by jummy84 October 8, 2025
written by jummy84

On Friday, October 3, Zach Bryan posted a snippet of an unreleased song on his Instagram with the caption “the fading of the red white and blue.” “I heard the cops came/Cocky motherfuckers, ain’t they?”, Bryan sings on the track, which according to Stereogum is titled “Bad News.” “And ICE is gonna come bust down your door/Try to build a house that no one builds no more/But I got a telephone/Kids are scared and all alone.”

Now Bryan’s lyrics have drawn the ire of the federal government—a phenomenon that is becoming increasingly common. Earlier today (October 7), Tricia McLaughlin, assistant secretary of public affairs for the United States Department of Homeland Security, told TMZ that Bryan should “stick to ‘Pink Skies,’” referencing a song from his 2024 album The Great American Bar Scene. Pitchfork has reached out to representatives for Bryan for comment.

Under the second Trump administration, the United States Immigrations and Customs Enforcement agency has been conducting raids and mass deportations in cities across the U.S. Following the news that Bad Bunny, who is Puerto Rican, would perform the halftime show at Super Bowl LX next year, DHS adviser and President Donald J. Trump’s 2024 campaign manager Corey Lewandowski said that ICE agents would be present at the event.

Revisit Alphonse Pierre’s Off the Dome column “How ICE Raids Have Impacted Texas Rapper HOODLUM’s Hometown,” and read about Zach Bryan’s “Pink Skies” at No. 79 on “The 100 Best Songs of 2024.”

NBA YoungBoy’s Manager Says United Center ‘B*tched Out’ After Chicago Concert Is Abruptly Canceled Allegedly Over Safety Concerns

Sorry in advance to those of you who thought you were seeing #NBAYoungBoy live this week in Chicago.

The #UnitedCenter has canceled the rapper’s show scheduled for Wednesday (Sept. 24). While the venue cited unspecified reasons for the abrupt cancellation, it’s highly speculated that it has to do with safety concerns. #Ticketmaster has issued automatic refunds to those who purchased tickets through its platform. For third-party purchases, attendees are advised to contact their point of purchase directly.

The cancellation follows the venue’s recent implementation of a strict no-bag policy for the event, prohibiting all bags, including clear ones. NBA YoungBoy’s manager expressed frustration on Instagram, stating, “United Center b!tched out,” and even slammed the person he believes made the final call.

This concert was part of NBA YoungBoy’s “Make America Slime Again” tour, which includes over two dozen U.S. dates through November.

It was a glittering night at The M&IT Awards 2025 on Friday, with 750 event professionals in attendance at JW Marriott Grosvenor House London to celebrate the great and good of the industry.

After winning, Austen-Browne said: “It’s an absolute delight to win the Editor’s Choice Award, it’s a big shock, but it’s such an amazing feeling to feel like I’m being recognised for my work and it’s really an honour to be recognised by my peers as well.”

Chris Parnham, CSO of veSpace International, took home the coveted Personality of the Year award earning a standing ovation. (veSpace also scooped gold in the Best Intermediary Agency Large (40+ employees) category). Under his leadership, the charity was restructured, strengthened and repositioned as a foundation, securing its mission and future growth. He is admired not just for what he has achieved, but for how he has done it – with authenticity, generosity and a genuine commitment to the people around him. A mentor, a thought leader and a unifying force, he exemplifies the very qualities this award is designed to celebrate.”

After winner, Parnham said: “Wow. Okay, I’m still a bit stunned after that, but it was really nice to hear all those wonderful things about my very long career. I basically take other people’s glory, which I’ve done for the last 25 years, whether it’s the people I work with or the wonderful people at Meeting Needs, hopefully I’ve done good things by them and hopefully inspired some people along the way to also do good things. Look out for your friends and colleagues. Karma comes around. So, be good, be nice.”

The ‘Oscars of the industry’ – whose headline sponsor is IHG Hotels & Resorts – kicked off with a rip-roaring set from the Greatest Show following by M&IT editor Paul Harvey, headline sponsor IHG Hotels & Resorts and Meeting Needs current chair Lene Corgan addressing assembled guests.

The first award of the night saw the Victory Service Club’s Daisy Basilio take home the Chris Peacock Rising Star of The Year Award, named in honour of Conference Care founder Chris Peacock, who died from bowel cancer in 2023. “Huge congratulations to all of Friday night’s winners – every award was richly deserved. And to our fantastic finalists and anyone who left feeling a touch of award envy, remember there’s always next year, and you’ve got to be in it to win it. ‘This Industry Can Never Be United’: Anurag Kashyap’s Unfiltered Take On Bollywood

by jummy84 September 21, 2025
written by jummy84

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has once again sparked debate with his characteristically unfiltered take on the Bollywood industry. While promoting his new film, Nishaanchi, Kashyap didn’t hold back, criticizing what he calls the “toxicity” within the fraternity and its persistent lack of unity. The director, known for his no-nonsense attitude, pointed out that industry members rarely stand up for each other, creating a fragmented and insecure environment. His comments offer a stark look at the underlying issues many believe plague Hindi cinema today, from its insular nature to its evolving relationship with technology.

Speaking to Zoom, Kashyap expressed his frustration with the industry’s disunity. “People who know me tell me, ‘You stand for everyone, who stands for you?’ I can say this very confidently that this industry can never be united,” he said. He believes this lack of solidarity prevents meaningful change and makes it difficult for new voices to emerge. As a director who has often championed independent cinema and new talent, Kashyap’s frustration stems from a long history of observing these dynamics firsthand. He argues that true creators don’t rely on industry circles; they simply focus on their craft.

To make his point, he cited the success of filmmakers Shoojit Sircar and Dibakar Banerjee, who work outside Mumbai. “Shoojit Sircar resides in Kolkata. Dibakar Banerjee is based in Himachal. Yet, they continue to create films,” he said. Calling himself a “secure filmmaker,” Kashyap emphasized that he focuses on storytelling and creativity rather than engaging in industry politics. This mindset, he suggests, is the key to longevity and authenticity in a business that often demands conformity.

Anurag Kashyap About AI In Cinema

Beyond Bollywood’s internal issues, Kashyap also weighed in on one of the most pressing topics in the global film industry: the rise of Artificial Intelligence. He strongly opposed the AI-generated film Chiranjeevi Hanuman – The Eternal, produced by Vijay Subramaniam, calling it a betrayal of human creators. For Kashyap, while the use of AI in filmmaking may be inevitable, its application should be ethical and not at the expense of artists. “People will make films using AI, but when you represent a roster of artists and then do AI, that’s unethical for me,” he said, drawing a clear line between technological innovation and what he sees as a moral compromise.

Kashyap’s criticism extended to producers who back such ventures, as well as artists who support them, labeling them “spineless and cowardly.” He believes that a true artist should protect the sanctity of creativity and not endorse a technology that could potentially render human talent obsolete. Despite his concerns, Kashyap believes a reckoning is near. He predicted that “all the actors will unite the day AI replaces them,” emphasizing that technology should serve creativity, not replace it.

His film Nishaanchi, a gangster drama set in the heartland, delves into themes of family, love, and crime. It marks a significant project for its lead actor, Aaishvary Thackeray, who stars in a double role. The film also features a talented ensemble cast, including Vedika Pinto, Monika Panwar, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, and Kumud Mishra. The film, released on September 19, explores complex human relationships against the backdrop of a gritty criminal world, showcasing Kashyap’s signature style of blending raw realism with compelling character-driven narratives.
