Luther Vandross Smiled After Turning Down This Babyface Hit Record

Babyface‘s hit 1996 ballad “Every Time I Close My Eyes” was almost part of Luther Vandross‘ catalog.

The crooner took to Instagram on Monday (Sept. 8) sharing a photo of “the exact moment Luther said no to singing ‘Every Time I Close My Eyes.’”

Babyface admitted, “[It was] probably the best rejection I ever got because it became one of my biggest records…. But I still wish he would have sung it!”

Fans were tickled at the thought of Vandross saying no with a huge grin on his face— which would be very fitting. In light of the fun fact, one fan requested, “I’d love for you to one day release all the demos of you singing hits you gave to other artists!”

Meanwhile, others agreed that “[‘Every Time I Close My Eyes’] had Luther written all over it!”

“Every Time I Close My Eyes” was written, produced, and performed by Face. Mariah Carey was the featured artist along with Kenny G, who played saxophone. It was the second single from his fourth studio album, The Day. The Grammy-nominated record peaked No. 6 on the Billboard Hot 100 and No. 5 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs charts.

Years later, Babyface co-wrote “Grown Thangs” with Jon B for Vandross’ eponymous 2001 LP. Jon B produced the record and both men appeared on its backing vocals. That album was Vandross’ J Records label debut, but his 13th overall studio album. It also featured his hit modern-day single, “Take You Out.”

Labubu Is Turning 10! To Celebrate, Its Creator Kasing Lung Is Collaborating With Moynat

by jummy84 September 9, 2025
written by jummy84

They’re everywhere: You see them in the subway, on the streets, all over your social media feeds, and even in our street style galleries. They’re at the US Open with Naomi Osaka and on tour with pop superstar Lisa. From high-brow fashion folk to your colleagues’ toddlers and even your adult friends themselves—everyone’s succumbed to the beguiling, mischievous little creature known as Labubu, the monster toy popularized as a bag charm earlier this year. Now, you can find Labubu not just hanging from your accessories, but on the accessories themselves: Labubu creator Kasing Lung has partnered with French luxury trunkmaker Moynat to release a special capsule collection.

For those new to the Labubu craze—the creature has been something of a cult figure in Asia for a few years now—here’s one thing you should know: Labubu has siblings. Inspired by Nordic folklore, Lung created the character 10 years ago in 2015 with a trilogy of books under the franchise Monsters, which eventually gave way to an entire universe of products, from books and prints to toys and figurines, including the beloved Labubu figurines that have become so omnipresent these days.

“I will tell you, I never imagined that this would happen,” offered Lung, calling in from Hong Kong, about the ongoing Labubu craze. “The starting point of The Monsters was the story, I wanted to make a picture book about different kinds of monsters, my fans loved it, and then year after year it became more serious,” he said. “But what’s most important to me is that the project is about storytelling, that is what I’m working on with Moynat as well, about telling a story. I like to have my paintings on the bags because I want to tell stories with my painting.”

The capsule features Labubu and its siblings, Zimomo and King Mon, all on black monogram coated canvas tote bags and mini trunks. They also appear as all-over prints on leather handbags and two passport holders. Labubu specifically turns up exclusively on the small leather goods, primarily on colorful bag charms that see him rendered with the Moynat monogram all over its body.

The partnership with Moynat marks the first time Lung has opened up The Monsters to a Western luxury label. (Pronounce, the independent Shanghai-based label, has an ongoing collaboration with PopMart and Labubu—as I write this I can see a purple edition of the toy hanging from a colleague’s handbag at the Vogue offices.) “My fans, everyday they leave a message on Instagram or [via] email asking about The Monsters,” Lung said. “The question they ask the most is when we were working with a luxury brand.”

The capsule is being announced today, but will become available from October 11 in Shanghai. It will then embark on a world tour, landing in Paris during Art Basel from October 21st with further stops in Taipei in November and Hong Kong in December. It will then arrive in the US in early 2025. Did you think that the Moynat Labubu would be easier to get than the perennially sold-out figurine? Think again!

Gavin Rossdale on turning 60 and his ‘good genes’

by jummy84 August 31, 2025
written by jummy84

31 August 2025

Gavin Rossdale says his late mum Barbara gave him “really good genes” as he approaches his 60th birthday.

Gavin Rossdale says getting older makes him appreciate life more

The Bush frontman – whose mother passed away in January – will reach the milestone age on October 30, and although he hates thinking about getting older and mortality, it makes him “appreciate life more”.

Asked how he feels to be turning 60 and not looking his age, Gavin told Contact Music: “Well, my mum gave me really good genes because she looked really young for her age. And the funny part is that when I was a kid, right, like, I couldn’t get into pubs. It’s so embarrassing. Up until the age of, like, 28. I was not allowed into pubs. I mean, of course, I got into them. They’d always like, stop me, like, really embarrassing when you’re trying to be cool and young, and you would go with your mates, and they’re like carding you. So it took me a long time, but now I’m getting my payback.”

The Land of Milk and Honey singer – who has grownup daughter Daisy Lowe, 36, with ex-partner Pearl Lowe, and sons Kingston, 19, Zuma, 17, and 11-year-old Apollo with ex-spouse Gwen Stefani – is “terrified” of his children seeing him frail and old but being the patriarch of the family is something he can be proud of.

He said of ageing: “It’s unavoidable. I mean, it’s exciting in some ways. In some ways, it’s f****** terrible, but it’s just my ego that is terrible, because I don’t want to die and I’m just like, f***, just in 20 years, like my kids are going to be worried when I go to the f****** toilet at a restaurant, you know, go down the stairs and they go talk about me behind my back. He’s doing really well, isn’t he? F****** hell, he’s all right, you know. So it just makes me appreciate life more. That’s the only thing I can say about it.”

On the positives of getting older, he added: “I do like the clarity. I don’t like the progression towards any frailty, you know, but it just is what it is. And the Buddhists say ageing is one of great forms of suffering, so I sort of refuse to suffer about it. I mean, it’s sad to suffer about it. It just is what it is. The most important thing to me, which I really like and I never actually thought about, is to be a patriarch now, and to, like, look at the kind of the family tree and what’s going on, and just be there for my family. And that’s a life well lived, right? If I’ve done that, it feels the right structure around me, you know?”
