The Kansas City Chiefs tight end, 35, proposed to singer Taylor, also 35, in the garden of his house earlier this month and his father Ed Kelce, 73, has now revealed the athlete approached Taylor’s father, Scott Swift, 72, about a month ago to formally request permission to marry his daughter.

Ed said on Australian radio’s The Jimmy and Nath Show with Emma about the couple’s engagement, revealed by the pair on Instagram on 26 August: “I was talking to Scott Swift and Travis went to ask him for permission, and this was probably a month ago, and Scott said, ‘Well come on, when are you going to get this done?’”

Like Scott, Ed admitted he had been urging his son to move ahead with the proposal.

He added: “(Travis) didn’t come to me for advice so much as I went to him to tell him, you know, ‘To get this done’.

“Travis had these plans to do it the next weekend before flying out to Brazil (for a Kansas City Chiefs game against the Los Angeles Chargers on 5 September.)

“He was going to make a big production out of it some place, wanted to make it a bit special. I told him the same thing Scott told him, ‘Asking her is what’s going to make it special. It’s not where you do it. You know what I mean? You could do it on the side of the road’.

“Scott adds, ‘Just get it done. Don’t worry about any special date. Just, you’re ready, you got the ring, go do it’.”

In the end, Travis followed that advice.

Ed said: “They were going out to dinner and she was ready to go and he said, ‘Let’s go out in the garden on the patio and have a glass of wine before we go’.

“I think she knew something was up because as they walked out there, she could see, suddenly, there were a lot more flowers out there.”

Ed went on: “I’ve never seen him quite so happy. I think it’s wonderful. These are two young people madly in love with each other and I think this is great.”

The dad also revealed that Travis had shown him a picture of the engagement ring designed by Kindred Lubeck of Artifex Fine Jewelry in early July.

He told News 5’s John Kosich: “The family on both sides kind of assumed that this was going to happen because we’ve never seen our kids so happy.”

On social media, Taylor confirmed the engagement with a joint post with Travis.

She said: “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,” alongside photos from the garden proposal.

The post was set to her 2024 track So High School, widely believed to be about her relationship with Travis.

On August 27, a day after the engagement announcement, AE announced the upcoming launch of AE x Tru Kolors by Travis Kelce. Tru Kolors is Kelce’s sportswear and lifestyle brand, which he first launched in 2019. The collaboration with American Eagle will be a limited-edition collection available until September 24. Said Kelce in the press release, “I want everyone to feel like there is something for them in the collection, something they can feel good in and make their own. I’m excited for it to finally be out in the world.” The campaign stars some of Kelce’s fellow elite athletes: Anna Frey, Azzi Fudd, Drew Allar, Jeremiah Smith, Kiyan Anthony, and Suni Lee.

Kelce also posted an ad for the collection on his personal Instagram. The video shows Kelce parking a fancy green sports car and walking into a gym while wearing a deep V-neck cable-knit sweater. Especially with the stripe accents, Kelce’s pullover in this ad looks remarkably similar to a certain chunky cable-knit cardigan that Swift wore in her “Cardigan” music video. It wouldn’t be the craziest thing in the world to imagine that Kelce got some sartorial inspiration from his fiancée.

The couple had not previously revealed they were expecting, making the news even more of a shock to fans. Hunter and Leanna, high school sweethearts, were recently married in Tennessee and celebrated with a tropical honeymoon.

Kayla Nicole, Travis Kelce‘s girlfriend, has been suspected of writing a cryptic post online shortly after the NFL star and Taylor Swift announced their engagement. The media personality took to her Instagram Stories on Tuesday (Aug. 26), where she reshared a clip of Tracee Ellis Ross speaking about the power of joy.

In the video, Ross explains, “I think joy is different from happiness. I feel like happiness is something you can get at 7-Eleven, and joy is something that you earn and work for and takes practice. I feel like joy has legs. I feel like joy has feet. feel like joy has roots. I feel like joy creates space and allows room for more than just a good day.”

Nicole posted the video with reflection on her own journey. “Read about this concept years ago in a book called Choose Joy: Because Happiness Isn’t Enough,” she wrote, referencing Kay Warren’s self-help book. “I aspire. So so good.”

Her reflections arrived just hours after Kelce and Swift revealed their engagement on Instagram with the caption, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married,” alongside a carousel of floral-filled engagement photos. In the shots, Kelce is seen on one knee beneath a floral arch, while a beaming Swift holds his face and shows off her huge diamond ring.

The couple’s announcement comes nearly two years into their relationship, which began one year after Kelce’s publicized split from Nicole. The NFL star and the I Am Athlete Daily host dated on and off between 2017 and 2022, and while Nicole has rarely mentioned her ex’s name, she’s been open about the heartbreak that followed.

On her Pre-Game podcast earlier this year, Nicole spoke about the insecurities and pain that stemmed from infidelity in a past relationship, fueling speculation about her time with Kelce. While Taylor Swift fans are calculating how much financial ruin they’re willing to sustain with each progressive vinyl variant drop of her new album The Life of Showgirl, the singer-songwriter’s fiancé Travis Kelce has been playing it on repeat. “I’m gonna go ahead and just keep poking the bear to all the Swifties,” he said on the first New Heights episode since her announcement-filled appearance. “I keep listening to this album.”

Kelce has been “dancing all throughout the house” to the record, set for release on Oct. 3. “I know she mentioned that it’s gonna be a lot more pop beats, but it’s just still so poetic in her melodies and her references and stuff,” he said. “It’s just so much fun to listen to, man.”

“At least right now, every time it comes on, I always catch myself [dancing],” he said about his current favorite track, “Opalite.” Some Swifties have already claimed the song as their favorite, but purely on the basis of vibes, since no singles have been shared yet. They still have a few weeks before they’ll hear the record in full, but in the meantime they have some more hints to pour over.

“She walked away, like, flying around,” Travis said about Swift coming onto the podcast to announce the record. “She was having so much fun getting to tell everyone about the album and obviously dropping a few easter eggs and seeing if anyone caught on.” Her fans were hunting for clues in the engagement announcement Swift and Kelce shared Tuesday — even though she said on the podcast that she would never leave hints about her personal life — so it’s safe to say they probably caught on to the easter eggs she dropped and a few more she doesn’t even know about.

“Travis actually did the proposal, oh, maybe two weeks, not quite two weeks ago,” Ed said just hours after Taylor and Travis made their announcement. “He was going to put it off till this week. I think she was getting maybe a little antsy, but he was going to put her off till this week, to, you know, make some grand thing, to make it a big special event.”

So, it’s safe to assume that Travis popped the question sometime after their joint “New Heights” podcast interview and her new album announcement.

Where Did Taylor Swift Get Engaged? Location Revealed

Travis asked Taylor to marry him in the backyard of his home in Lee’s Summit, Missouri, according to Ed.

“And I told him repeatedly, you know, you could do it on the side of the road, do it any place that makes it a special event … when you get down on one knee and ask her to marry you,” Ed explained during his August 26, 2025, interview. “He got her out there, they were about to go out to dinner, and he said, ‘Let’s go out and have a glass of wine.’ They got out there, and that’s when he asked her, and it was beautiful.”

However, Page Six reported that Travis actually proposed at his Leawood, Kansas, home.

“They started FaceTiming me and their mother and her folks to make sure everybody knew,” Ed said during his interview. “So, to see them together is great.”

13. Travis has three personal trainers—Alex Skacel, Andrew Spruill and Laurence Justin Ng—and, according to The Athletic, one usually travels with him wherever he goes to ensure he remains in football-catching shape all year round.

Alex, who’s also a physical therapist, recalled Travis wanting to go for a late night run after taking in a slate full of shows during Paris Fashion Week because he missed working out that day.

“It’s midnight, and we’re doing sprints over the bridges over the river,” the trainer told the New York Times in April. “No matter where he is, he finds time to get done whatever he needs to get done.”

14. Travis’ personal chef, Kumar Ferguson, has been a friend since the fourth grade in Cleveland Heights. 

He was an amateur cook working as a truck driver in 2016 when Travis called him up and offered him the opportunity.

“He’s like, ‘Hey man, I want to take my diet seriously, and take it to the next level,'” Kumar told Vanity Fair in 2023. “I’m like, s–t, let’s do it. Three or four days later, I was in Kansas City.”

He’s been responsible for everything from stocking Travis’ fridge to delivering well-balanced lunches to the Chiefs’ training facility.
