‘Michael’ trailer has already become the most-watched music biopic preview in history

The first trailer for Michael Jackson‘s biopic has already become the most-watched music biopic preview ever – find out more below.

The film, titled Michael, will see the King of Pop’s real-life nephew Jaafar Jackson take on the title role, while Oscar nominee Colman Domingo will play his father, Joe Jackson. It will hit the big screen on April 24, 2026.

Michael‘s first trailer arrived last week (November 6), and has already broken a record to become the most-watched music biopic trailer in history after an initial 24-hour period, per The Hollywood Reporter.

According to statistics provided by WaveMetrix on Saturday (November 8), the trailer drew over 116.2million views globally, making it both the most-viewed music biopic trailer ever, as well as distributor Liongate’s most-viewed movie preview in history.

Watch the trailer for Michael below.

Additional cast members include Miles Teller as attorney John Branca, Kat Graham as Diana Ross, Nia Long as Katherine Jackson, Laura Harrier as Suzanne de Passe, Kendrick Sampson as Quincy Jones and Juliano Krue Valdi as a young Michael.

In May, it was reported that the film could potentially be split into two parts for length, though as of the time of writing, the two-parter has not been confirmed. Following the release of the trailer, Adam Fogelson, chair of the Lionsgate’s Motion Picture Groups spoke of the potential split during a quarterly earnings call with analysts.

“While we’re not yet ready to confirm plans for a second film, I can tell you that the creative team is hard at work making sure that we’re in a position to deliver more Michael soon after we release the first film,” Fogelson said.

The film has already attracted some criticism, including from Dan Reed, the director of the documentary Leaving Neverland, which documented allegations of sexual abuse against Michael. Reed criticised the making of the new biopic, saying it “will glorify a man who raped children”.

Reed later said he had read a draft of the script in which the men who made the allegations in Leaving Neverland were discredited. “Jackson is only ever seen caring for children with childhood cancer, or dancing with a little girl in a wheelchair, or tucking up multiple little boys, mostly his nephews, at sleepovers,” Reed said of the script. “It feels like the creators of the movie have been stuck in a room with John Branca and just told what to write.”

Reports emerged at the start of this year that the film had been delayed after they were forced to reshoot the third act due to its unsanctioned portrayal of the Jordan Chandler case.

Actor Colman Domingo, who will play Michael Jackson’s father Joe in the upcoming biopic, has defended the project, saying that “everyone has a story to tell”. He said the film will look at the “complex human being” behind the star.

“I am these kids’ propagandist.” Crazy! Madman Films in Australia has unveiled an official trailer for the acclaimed, award-winning doc film called Mr Nobody Against Putin, made by director David Borenstein as his latest feature. This documentary premiered at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival earlier this year where it won a Special Jury Prize. A brave and resilient primary school teacher secretly exposes Putin’s aggressive militarisation of Russia’s schools and their propaganda tactics in one of the great documentary sensations of the year. It has played at tons of other festivals including CPH:DOX, Docville, Zurich, DOC:NYC and others. Mr Nobody Against Putin was shot over a period of 2 years by Pavel “Pasha” Talankin, the videographer & events coordinator at Karabash Primary School #1. Talankin began seriously documenting his activities after the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, when the government began requiring schools to hold regular “patriotic displays” and use a state-written curriculum to justify the invasion to students. Talankin secretly fled Russia during the summer of 2024, aided by his producers and director David Borenstein who worked to get him asylum in Europe, following evidence of police surveillance at his home. This doc looks excellent.

Here’s the official trailer (+ poster) for David Borenstein’s film Mr Nobody Against Putin, via YouTube:

Mr Nobody Against Putin Poster

Pavel “Pasha” Talankin loves his job as a teacher in the small Russian town of Karabash – then Russia invades Ukraine. He is outraged by the new government propaganda in the curriculum, not to mention the school’s being used as a military recruitment ground. In class, Pasha finds ways to playfully protest the regime; more crucially, he becomes a whistleblower – secretly filming the alarming shifts under the guise of his work as school videographer. He risks his life to send the footage overseas to filmmaker David Borenstein – while also planning his own escape. Mr Nobody Against Putin is directed by international doc filmmaker David Borenstein, also director of the films Dream Empire and Can’t Feel Nothing, plus a few other series and short film. It’s produced by Helle Faber. This initially premiered at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival earlier this year, where it won a Special Jury Prize. No final release date is set yet – still playing at more festivals and beyond. Expected to open in early 2026 in US theaters. Anyone interested in watching?

“You’ve got to live, don’t you?” Madman Films in Australia has unveiled an official trailer for the film The Little Sister, an acclaimed French coming-of-age drama from filmmaker / actress Hafsia Herzi directing her fourth feature so far. This originally premiered at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival earlier this year in the Main Competition section – it won the coveted Best Actress award for star Nadia Melliti who plays Fatima. The film just opened in French cinemas a few weeks ago after playing at festivals all year long. Fatima, 17, is the youngest of 3 daughters in a French-Algerian family. Wanting to find her own path in life, she begins university studies in Paris, where she embraces new experiences. She struggles to develop her identity and balance emerging desires, including her attraction to women, while also maintaining a sense of loyalty to her family. The cast features Nadia Melliti with Park Ji-min (also seen in Return to Seoul), Amina Ben Mohamed, Rita Benmannana, and Melissa Guers. This looks quite good! Not sure another story about life in Paris, a more meaningful coming-of-age tale of identity & honesty. Keep an eye out for this one soon.

Here’s the first international trailer for Hafsia Herzi’s film The Little Sister, direct from YouTube:

The Little Sister Film

Fatima, 17, the youngest of three daughters, treads carefully as she searches for her own path, grappling with emerging desires, her attraction to women & loyalty to her caring French-Algerian family. Starting university in Paris, she dates, makes friends, and explores a whole new world, all while confronting a timeless and heartrending dilemma: How can one stay true to oneself when reconciling different parts of one’s identity feels impossible? The Little Sister, also known as La Petite Dernière (meaning The Little Last One), is written and directed by French-Tunisian actress / filmmaker Hafsia Herzi, director of the films You Deserve a Lover, Good Mother, and La Cour previously. Adapted from the book titled “The Last One” (“La petite dernière”) by Fatima Daas. Produced by Julie Billy and Naomi Denamur. This initially premiered at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival earlier this year. The film already opened in theaters in France starting in October this fall. Still no official US release date set yet – stay tuned for more updates. Does that look good?

“A beautiful dream ride through the 20th century.” Janus Films has unveiled their full official trailer for the film Resurrection, a stunning creation from visionary Chinese filmmaker Bi Gan – who’s best known for his other two films Kaili Blues and Long Day’s Journey into Night. This originally premiered at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival in May, and screened at NYFF, London, Beyond Fest, and many others. Janus has set the release date for December – playing soon in select art house theaters. Resurrection is an entrancing sci-fi cinema creation following Miss Shu in a future where most of humanity has lost the capacity to dream, who discovers that one inhuman creature is still able to experience them. She enters his dreams, using her ability to perceive illusions to determine the truth in its visions of Chinese history. The film is divided into six chapters, with each representing one of the five senses, along with the mind. Starring Jackson Yee as the “monster”, Shu Qi as Miss Shu, with Mark Chao, Li Gengxi, and Huang Jue. The film is an entrancing journey through time and cinema – featuring six distinct segments showing different styles throughout film history. If you love cinema as much as we do here, then this is a must watch film whenever it plays near you.

Here’s the full official US trailer (+ poster) for Bi Gan’s film Resurrection, direct from Janus’ YouTube:

Resurrection Film Trailer

You can watch the teaser trailer for Bi Gan’s Resurrection cinema event right here for even more footage.

Original synopsis via NYFF: “This phantasmagoric dream machine from visionary Chinese director Bi Gan is an elusive yet monumental love letter to a century of cinema. Unfolding over five chapters that feature a dazzling array of styles, Resurrection is a cascade of imagery united by a luminous mythopoetic conceit: in a sci-fi-coded world where people have lost the desire to dream in the hopes of prolonging life, rogue “fantasmers” continue to stoke their imaginations and exist within unreality. From this magical premise, the film sends its ever-morphing protagonist (played by Jackson Yee) through a series of genres, from Méliès-inflected silent fantasy to wartime thriller to con-artist buddy pic to millennial vampire romance — the latter depicted in one of Bi’s customary, ever astonishing, single takes. Even within genre parameters, the director never takes the road well-traveled, offering jolts & marvels around every corner. Resurrection is one of the most audacious and ambitious gifts for cinematic thrill-seekers in many a moon.” ~156 mins.

Resurrection, also known as 狂野时代 in Mandarin (meaning Wild Times), is directed by acclaimed Chinese filmmaker Bi Gan, director of the films Tiger, Kaili Blues, and Long Day’s Journey into Night previously, plus many other short films. The screenplay is written by Zhai Xiaohui and Bi Gan; from a story by Bi Gan. Produced by Shan Zuolong, Yang Lele, Charles Gillibert. This initially premiered at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival playing in the Main Competition section – where it won a Special Award. Janus Films will debut Bi Gan’s Resurrection film in select US theaters starting on December 12th, 2025 later this year. Intrigued?

Fun, from director Michael Showalter. This raucous comedy is ready to debut streaming in December – it’s skipping theaters entirely for an online release. Michelle Pfeiffer stars as Claire Clauster – she makes the Christmas magic happen every year for her family but her children & grandchildren don’t realize the effort it takes, until she goes missing. Claire’s already set off on a festive adventure of her own – it’s one that doesn’t involve cooking, cleaning, or coordinating anyone else’s chaos. When they realize she’s missing, their holiday is at risk until she returns to give them a celebration they deserve. Along with Pfeiffer, it also stars Chloë Grace Moretz, Danielle Brooks, Denis Leary, Dominic Sessa, Havana Rose Liu, Maude Apatow, Eva Longoria, Jason Schwartzman, Devery Jacobs, Joan Chen. The fun film is “a wink to every overworked holiday host, the film celebrates family, freedom, and the unexpected magic of a Christmas gone off-script.” Looks crazy fun and kooky and wild! Michael Jackson Biopic Trailer Draws 30 Million Views in 6 Hours, A Sequel Reportedly in the Works

The first teaser for Michael, Lionsgate’s upcoming biopic about music legend Michael Jackson, generated more than 30 million views within its first six hours of release — a figure that marks a 50% increase over the debut numbers for John Wick: Chapter 4, according to Lionsgate Motion Picture Group Chair Adam Fogelson.

The update was shared during the studio’s earnings call on Thursday, where Fogelson also confirmed the film remains one of Lionsgate’s most anticipated releases. Directed by Antoine Fuqua and produced by Graham King, who also produced Bohemian Rhapsody, Michael is set to open in theaters on April 24, 2026. During the call, Lionsgate executives were asked whether plans remain in place for a second installment of Michael. The film was initially divided into two parts, as the original cut ran three and a half hours long. Additionally, a portion of the footage reportedly centered on one of Jackson’s accusers, who reached a settlement with the singer’s estate stipulating that their story could not be dramatized — an oversight the estate made when approving the film’s early development.

Responding to questions about a possible sequel, Fogelson said, “Since the last time we worked together on an earnings call, we’ve had the great pleasure of seeing the director’s cut of the first film, and it is exceptional.” He added, “While we’re not yet ready to confirm plans for a second film, I can tell you that the creative team is hard at work making sure that we’re in a position to deliver more Michael soon after we release the first film.” Fogelson concluded by praising the film’s lead, Jaafar Jackson, the late singer’s nephew, saying, “People have been waiting a long time for this. I think people are stunned with Jaafar’s performance.”

“Even in a place like this, people want to pretend they’re somewhere else…” Greenwhich Ent. has unveiled their own official US trailer for the film titled Islands, an intriguing English-language mystery thriller set on the island of Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands off the coast of Europe. It’s the latest film made by German filmmaker Jan-Ole Gerster, director of A Coffee in Berlin (aka Oh Boy) and Lara. I’m a big fan of Gerster and a big fan of this film already (my full review). It first premiered at the 2025 Berlin Film Festival and opens in US theaters starting January 2026 next year. Sam Riley stars as Tom – a tennis pro washed up on a holiday island not doing much with his life. Now he’s the coach at a hotel resort, hitting countless balls over the net to tourists. When he crosses paths with a particular tourist family, it seems he’s found an escape of his own. Co-starring Stacy Martin, Jack Farthing, Fatima Adoum, Dylan Torrell, Ramiro Blas. I also really enjoy the mysterious score in this by Dascha Dauenhauer. I highly, highly recommend catching this film – still one of my favorites of 2025. So glad it’s finally being released soon in the US. Enjoy.

Here’s the official US trailer (+ poster) for Jan-Ole Gerster’s film Islands, direct from YouTube:

Islands Trailer

In this twisty thriller, a tennis coach at a tropical resort finds himself at the center of a missing persons mystery. Tom (Sam Riley) teaches tennis during the day and parties at night. When an enigmatic tourist (Stacy Martin) arrives, Tom is unable to shake the feeling he has met her before. Tension and attraction grow, until her husband (Jack Farthing) disappears, and the police suspect Tom. Islands is directed by the acclaimed German filmmaker Jan-Ole Gerster, director of the films A Coffee in Berlin (aka Oh Boy) and Lara previously. The screenplay is written by Jan-Ole Gerster, Blaž Kutin, Lawrie Doran. Produced by Jonas Katzenstein, Maximilian Leo, Associate Producer, and Katrin Kreppel. This initially premiered at the 2025 Berlin Film Festival earlier this year (read our review) and it played at the Edinburgh Film Fest. Greenwich Ent will debut Gerster’s Islands movie in select US theaters starting January 30th, 2026 early next year.

“The 4th Film by Quentin Tarantino, as it was meant to be seen.” ⚔️ Lionsgate has revealed the full official trailer for the theatrical release of the long-awaited combined epic Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair. This is the definitive, original version of the story that Quentin Tarantino envisioned over 20 years ago. As everyone knows, Tarantin’s brutal revenge saga Kill Bill was released in two parts: Kill Bill: Volume 1 in 2003 and Kill Bill: Volume 2 in 2004. Uma Thurman stars as The Bride – an assassin left for dead who miraculously survives and goes on a rampaging revenge tour to get back at her old boss and all of his assassins. Both of them are some of my favorite movies ever made. Also starring Lucy Liu, Vivica A. Fox, Michael Madsen, Daryl Hannah, Gordon Liu as Pai Mei, Michael Parks, and David Carradine as “Bill”. Presented exactly as Tarantino intended, complete with a new, never-before-seen anime sequence, The Whole Blood Affair unites Vol. 1 & 2 into a single, unrated epic. The highly anticipated release marks one of the rare times that the entire epic has been presented as a single, combined film. It has been shown only at the New Beverly Cinema in LA for years – now it will play in many theaters nationwide coming soon.

Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair Trailer

Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair Poster

Quentin Tarantino’s Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair unites Volume 1 and Volume 2 into a single, unrated epic—presented exactly as he intended, complete with a new, never-before-seen anime sequence. Uma Thurman stars as The Bride, left for dead after her former boss and lover Bill ambushes her wedding rehearsal, shooting her in the head and stealing her unborn child. To exact her vengeance, she must first hunt down the four remaining members of the Deadly Viper Assassination Squad before confronting Bill himself. With its operatic scope, relentless action, and iconic style, The Whole Bloody Affair stands as one of cinema’s definitive revenge sagas—rarely shown in its complete form, and now presented with a classic intermission. Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair is written and directed by acclaimed American filmmaker Quentin Tarantino, his fourth (and fifth) feature film at the time after making Reservoir Dogs (1992), Pulp Fiction (1994), Jackie Brown (1997) before. Based on the character of “The Bride” created by Q&U. Produced by Lawrence Bender. The two films originally opened in October 2003 and April 2004. Lionsgate debuts Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair in theaters nationwide starting December 5th, 2025. Who’s in?
