Do You Know the Tragic True Story Behind Gordon Lightfoot’s ‘The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald’?

by jummy84 November 10, 2025

50 years ago, the SS Edmund Fitzgerald sunk in Lake Superior, taking 29 men down with it — a tragedy you likely know about due to the 1976 Gordon Lightfoot hit “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald,” released less than a year after the ship sank. The song hit number one in Lightfoot’s native Canada, and number two in the US — an impressive feat for a song that ran over six minutes long.

Lightfoot was inspired to immortalize the wreck after reading a news article about it — and feeling that unless he did something, this devastating shipwreck, like so many each year, would be largely forgotten by the world.

Singer and actor Rishabh Tandon, known by his stage name Faqeer, died on Wednesday, October 22, in Delhi. The 39-year-old reportedly died after suffering a heart attack while he was visiting his hometown to spend Diwali with his family members. His untimely death has shaken his relatives and fans to their core.

Rishabh, who was based in Mumbai with his wife Olesya Nedobegova, had come to Delhi for the holiday season. His family is now preparing for his last rites and has asked for some privacy during this period. The development was revealed to India Today by a past team member and also posted by paparazzo Viral Bhayani on social media.

Famous for both music and his acting career, Rishabh was well-known on social media, having gained more than 500,000 followers on Instagram. Although he was in the limelight for his professional career, his personal life was also the target of media attention—especially his alleged relationship with Sara Khan, an actress. A viral image of Sara donning sindoor once triggered rumors about their marriage, which she later refuted, though the two were seen together for at least three years.

Subsequently, Rishabh wedded Russian national Olesya Nedobegova, who had been a line producer on one of his web series filmed in Uzbekistan. In an earlier interview, Rishabh explained how their relationship started after a casual meeting on his final day in Uzbekistan.

Friends and followers have now flocked to social media to bid tribute to the departed artist, sharing memories and farewell messages. Rishabh was also a well-known animal lover and had a close-knit friend group based in Mumbai and Delhi as well.

His demise, particularly at a time of Diwali celebration, has shadowed those who knew and looked up to him with sorrow.

Ace Frehley‘s death turned the rock ‘n’ roll world upside down. The 74-year-old KISS co-founder and lead guitarist died after falling at home in October 2025, his family confirmed. As fellow musicians and peers keep his memory alive, Hollywood Life has compiled a few of the tributes dedicated to Ace, including from his former KISS bandmates.

KISS: Gene Simmons & Paul Stanley

Ace’s KISS bandmates Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley released a joint public statement, obtained by Variety, which read, “We are devastated by the passing of Ace Frehley. He was an essential and irreplaceable rock soldier during some of the most formative foundational chapters of the band and its history. He is and will always be a part of Kiss’s legacy. Our thoughts are with Jeanette, Monique and all those who loved him, including our fans around the world.”

I remember 1974 being in my room at the Hyatt on Sunset in LA and I heard someone playing deep and fiery guitar in the room next door. I thought “Boy, I wish THAT guy was in the band!” I looked over the balcony… He was. It was Ace. This is my favorite photo of us… pic.twitter.com/3ojMXqVkQr

Paul wrote a separate tribute to his late bandmate in an X post alongside a black-and-white photo that featured Ace.

“I remember 1974 being in my room at the Hyatt on Sunset in L.A., and I heard someone playing deep and fiery guitar in the room next door,” Paul tweeted. “I thought ‘Boy, I wish THAT guy was in the band!’ I looked over the balcony… He was. It was Ace. This is my favorite photo of us…”

I heard about Ace Frehley‘s passing from Rick Friel who I played with in a band called Shadow. Rick was also the first guy on the bus in 1977 with a KISS lunchbox to tell me about Ace…just changed my life. I got a guitar in 1978… pic.twitter.com/0oULzn0A5H

Mike McCready of Pearl Jam penned a touching tribute via X, calling the late KISS co-founder his “hero.”

“I heard about Ace Frehley‘s passing from Rick Friel who I played with in a band called Shadow,” Mike began. “Rick was also the first guy on the bus in 1977 with a KISS lunchbox to tell me about Ace…just changed my life. I got a guitar in 1978 to join Rick‘s band Warrior which turned into Shadow. We covered ‘C’mon and Love Me.’ All my friends have spent untold hours talking about KISS and buying KISS stuff. Ace was a hero of mine and also I would consider a friend. I studied his solos endlessly over the years… Just listen to ‘Alive,’ I used his solo from ‘She’ as a template. Ace jammed on ‘Black Diamond’ with Pearl Jam at Madison Square Garden…a dream come true for me. I would not have picked up a guitar without Ace and KISS’s influence. RIP it out Ace, you changed my life. Thank you. – Mike.”

Celebrated singer and Assamese cultural icon Zubeen Garg has passed away after a tragic scuba diving accident in Singapore. He was 52 years old. Reports indicate that local authorities pulled him out of the sea and immediately rushed him to a hospital, where they admitted him to the intensive care unit. Despite the medical team’s best efforts, they were unable to revive him.

The news of his sudden demise left fans devastated and sent shockwaves through the Assamese community and the wider Indian music industry. Zubeen was in Singapore to participate in the North East Festival, where he was scheduled to perform. His death is being described as an irreparable loss not just to the world of music but also to the cultural identity of Assam, where he was considered a voice of the people.

A Legacy That Transcended Music

Over his decades-long career, Zubeen Garg recorded thousands of songs in multiple languages, including Assamese, Bengali, Hindi, and Tamil, showcasing an immense versatility that few could match. While many across India first recognized him for the haunting Bollywood track “Ya Ali” from the 2006 film Gangster, his artistic influence ran far deeper in his home state of Assam. There, he was a symbol of regional pride and a driving force behind promoting local music and cinema.

His journey began in the early 1990s in Assam, where he quickly rose to prominence with his unique fusion of folk, rock, and classical music. His album Anamika became a monumental hit, catapulting him to stardom within the region. Zubeen was not just a singer; he was also a composer, lyricist, and producer. He composed music for more than 150 albums and films and directed several Assamese films, including the critically acclaimed Mon Jai. His ability to connect with the pulse of the youth made him an inspiration and a role model for a new generation of artists in the Northeast.

Beyond his musical contributions, Zubeen Garg was an outspoken and active philanthropist. He used his platform to champion youth and social causes, often lending his voice to movements for regional rights and environmental protection. He was a unifying cultural figure whose songs captured both the joys and struggles of the Northeast, making him more than an entertainer; he was a cultural phenomenon. His artistry provided a soundtrack to the lives of millions, from the spirited celebrations of Bihu to the solemn calls for change. He fearlessly took on social issues, and his voice became a beacon of hope for many in the region.

The Shock and Outpouring of Grief

The news of Zubeen Garg’s tragic passing sent a ripple of disbelief and grief across the country. Fans flooded social media platforms with tributes, live concert clips, and personal anecdotes, expressing their sorrow. Colleagues, admirers, and political leaders from across the Northeast and beyond shared their condolences. They remembered him not just for his songs but for his unwavering commitment to his roots and his people.

His death is a profound loss for the Assamese community, which had come to see him as a symbol of its modern identity. His music will continue to be a source of comfort and pride, but his physical presence, which represented a fusion of artistry and activism, will be deeply missed. As tributes continue to pour in, they paint a picture of a man who was a musical visionary and a true son of the soil. His legacy is etched not only in the thousands of songs he recorded but also in the hearts of a people who considered him their voice.
