Mira Rajput Kapoor Slams Diwali Crackers Amid Toxic Air Crisis: ‘Stop Normalising This’

by jummy84 October 22, 2025
written by jummy84

7In a powerful and resonant Instagram message this week, actress and entrepreneur Mira Rajput Kapoor called out the ongoing practice of bursting firecrackers during Diwali — at a time when Indian cities like Delhi and Mumbai are grappling with dangerously poor air quality. The post, which unapologetically highlighted the hypocrisy of ‘environmental’ pledges versus practised behaviour, struck a chord with thousands.

A No-Holds-Barred Call

Mira used her Instagram Stories to urge fans to rethink their festive habits. She wrote: “Why are we still bursting crackers? It’s not okay even if it’s ‘just for the kids to see once’ or ‘we’re just doing it once for them to have the experience.’ Neither is it okay for your pataka aesthetic to hold a phuljhadi for the gram. Let’s please stop normalising this.”

With air-quality indices hitting the “severe” range in Delhi and “very poor” in Mumbai, Mira’s timing was hard to miss. She added: “Say no to crackers cannot be the poster you get your kids to make for Earth Day and then forget about it when Diwali comes along. AQI news is not just for the next Instagram story — it’s the air our children breathe. And what’s sad is, despite the privilege, education, awareness and affluence, what lacks is common sense. So no, I won’t send my kids to watch while you’ll have some cracker fun. Please stop.”

When Awareness Clashes with Tradition

The post reads like a direct punch to the festive status quo. For many, Diwali isn’t just about lights and sweets — it’s fireworks, family laughter and all. But in 2025, as stubble burning, pollution-filled winter skies and clogged lungs become the backdrop to celebrations, Mira’s words highlight a broader reckoning: Can tradition stand up to consequence?

Her message isn’t about denying joy or festivity — it’s about asking whether culture should override conscience. If the air around us is choking, is bursting fireworks still “harmless fun”?

A Personal Note Amid Warnings

Mira isn’t lunging from a moral high ground unreachable by most. As the wife of actor Shahid Kapoor and the co-founder of skincare brand Akind Beauty and wellness retreat Dhun Wellness, she sits at a place of influence — which also means her words carry weight. She put both back in their Diwali post, while making it clear: her concern is structural, not seasonal.

With two young children—daughter Misha and son Zain—Mira’s appeal touches a parental nerve: the air we hand down is just as important as the traditions we pass on.

Social Media Echoes

As expected, the Instagram message lit up feeds. Many applauded her for speaking up:

“Yes Mira! Finally someone saying what needs to be said.” “This needs repeating every year.”
Few voices pushed back, suggesting that fireworks were “part of tradition” and harmless if done responsibly.

Perhaps that’s precisely her point: “responsible fireworks” is no longer enough when the air is turning hostile.

Looking Beyond One Night

Mira’s post asks more than whether you burst a firecracker this year. It points to a pattern: We sign petitions for Earth Day, we click selfies under lights, we get the kids to draw anti-pollution posters. And then December skies fill with smoke again. She wants to connect the dots.

When she says, “It’s not just for the next Instagram story—it’s the air our children breathe,” she flips the narrative. The question becomes: if an image ready for social display doesn’t translate into action, what’s its value?

The Bigger Picture

Bollywood stars draw headlines for glitz and festivals. But here, Mira Rajput’s voice shifts the focus from spectacle to sustainability. Her words resonate because they come not from a contest of who’s brighter, but from a shared recognition: if we light up the night, we must also clear the air for the morning.

In a year where “quiet Diwali” is becoming more of a necessity than a choice, her reminder is simple: we can still celebrate — but maybe not at the cost of our lungs.

As millions across the country text “Happy Diwali,” Mira Rajput asks: “Happy for whom, exactly?”

And that pause, that question, may just be the spark worth lighting this year.

“Toxic Masculinity Is a Reality” – Pankaj Kapur on Shahid Kapoor’s Kabir Singh

by jummy84 October 6, 2025
written by jummy84

In a recent interview with Lallantop, veteran actor Pankaj Kapur offered his perspective on his son Shahid Kapoor’s commercially successful yet controversial film, Kabir Singh. He expressed that the film merely reflected a pre-existing societal reality rather than glorifying toxic masculinity. He also praised Shahid’s evolution as an actor, emphasizing his notable performances in films such as Haider, Farzi, and Kabir Singh, while also sharing insights into Shahid’s development as a dramatic performer.

In response to the criticism that the film promotes toxic behaviour, he said, “He has done good work in Kabir Singh as well. That’s okay, because toxic masculinity exists in society. Just because a film portrays it doesn’t mean it’s glorifying it. This is more about our own perspective. Films show the world as it is, not as we wish it to be. Kabir Singh depicted a flawed man, which is what makes the story compelling.” He highlighted that this kind of story encourages important discussions regarding the intricacies of human nature.

Considering Shahid’s acting career, Pankaj said that his son’s genuine talent truly blossomed with Vishal Bhardwaj’s Haider in 2014. He added, “For a long time, I told him and others that his strength lay in drama, which hadn’t been fully explored. Until then, he was mostly cast in sweet boy roles. Vishal Bhardwaj unlocked that potential. Those films played a big part in shaping the actor Shahid would become. Shahid also became discerning about which projects to take on. He did brilliantly in Haider, and also in Farzi.”

Interestingly, Pankaj revealed that Shahid had received some formal training from him. He also spoke warmly of his other children, Sanah Kapur, who has been in a few films, and Ruhaan Kapoor, who is yet to make his debut. Describing his family’s dynamic, he mentioned that their home operates democratically, with his children making their own choices. He further added that there is no hierarchy in their home, and occasionally, his children even teach him things.

Spotting ghostlighting: How to recognise this toxic dating trend and protect yourself

by jummy84 September 2, 2025
written by jummy84

Ghostlighting is the subtle yet harmful dating trend where someone manipulates your feelings and perception while slowly disappearing from your life. Ravi Mittal, founder and CEO of QuackQuack, shares with HT Lifestyle the signs to watch for and shares ways to protect yourself from falling into this toxic pattern. (Also read: Dating coach explains why compatibility matters more than chemistry in relationships: ‘Don’t chase the instant spark’ )

Ghostlighting is a harmful dating trend where individuals manipulate their partner’s feelings before disappearing.(Adobe Stock)

What is ghostlighting?

It is the worst of two worlds. The trend suggests that when a person ghosts you and thinks that ghosting wasn’t painful enough, they decide to take it up a notch with pro-level gaslighting, where they pretend that YOU imagined their sudden disappearance; in fact, they never even ghosted you.

In simpler terms, they first pull off the magical act of disappearing into thin air, and then come back after weeks, non-apologetic, with tons of excuses that will make you doubt whether they ever ghosted you, or was it all in your “overthinking” mind. Luckily, this trend has been recognised, named, and shamed by Gen Zs and Millennials alike.

How to recognise?

The signs might be subtle, but Ghostlighters are not as sneaky as they believe themselves to be. The first sign is often finding yourself left on hold, and one fine day, messages start getting left unread. And the next clear sign is when, after the limbo of seen and unread, the same person suddenly messages with bangers like, “you don’t text me anymore”, “you never called me back”, “I told you I’d be busy these days.” The aim is to make you question your memory. 4 in 5 people on the receiving end of the treatment claimed these were the most important signs.

Reason behind this trend

Emotional immaturity, commitment issues, or avoidance techniques. Some people rush into getting too close and, in the end, do not feel the same spark as in the initial days. However, they lack the maturity to communicate it and choose to ghost.

How to dodge it

Trust your gut. If your instinct says something is off, it’s worth checking. Keep mental notes of conversations; it sounds petty, but it will help you remind yourself that this isn’t “overthinking or imagining”. Finally, a good match would never leave, especially without a goodbye or proper explanation.

Tired of toxic offices? Quiet thriving is the new trend that’s transforming workplaces for the better | Health

by jummy84 August 30, 2025
written by jummy84

Toxic workplaces have been the talk of the town for a very long time. Time and again, at every gathering, there’s always that frustrating rant about office drama that has everyone sitting on the edge of their seat. Typically, the plot includes a wide array of antagonists, from a micromanaging manager, unreasonable clients calling at 11 PM, snarky snitches, short-notice deadlines eating up weekends and endless office politics. It’s time to flip the script and encourage a workplace that invigorates you rather than draining energy.

One such trend, called ‘quiet thriving’, is silently changing the narrative of workplaces.

What are the health benefits of a supportive workplace?

But before we dive into decoding this empowering workplace trend, let’s first take a look at the benefits of a nurturing workplace environment. Often, employees’ health impacts are discussed in the context of a toxic environment. Since this trend is all about flipping the script, let’s begin right from the roots.

Dr Deepak Patkar, director of medical services at Nanavati Max Super Speciality Hospital in Mumbai, told us that supportive workplaces become a safe space for employees, both emotionally and physically. Organisations that respect trust and practice transparent communication, not just in words, but also in action, help employees feel valued and motivated to do their best.

He explained further how it positively influences employees, “Individuals working at these organisations develop a higher sense of self-worth and confidence as the leadership is often approachable and open to feedback. Employees also develop better mental peace and job satisfaction, contributing heavily to the turnover outcomes. Such environments also help people overcome their fears of public speaking or voicing out their opinions, becoming more professional and mindful communicators.”

What is quiet thriving?

Quiet thriving is a mindset where there's not a lot of expectation pinned on external validation and content on their own.(Shutterstock)

As Mahatma Gandhi rightfully said, “Be the change that you wish to see in the world.” Likewise, whether you believe it or not, you can fundamentally transform your work life. Quiet thriving is all about a mindset that is embedded in personal purpose, not external validation all the time.

Most of the time at work, even if you enjoy it, you always keep an eye out to see if your manager or colleague liked your work output and if not, it can leave you second-guessing yourself. Quiet thriving is all about what you can control, rather than wasting your energy on things beyond your influence.

Ajeet Kumar Singh, Managing Director and Co-Founder of SAVE Solutions Pvt. Ltd explained Quiet thriving, and elaborating, “Quiet Thriving is about intentionally showing up at work in a way that personally matters to you-even if your workplace does not so that the experience does not weigh you down but instead enriches your spirit: setting limits, building social bonds at work, tweaking the job to suit one’s own strengths, and finding quick bursts of joy here and there. It’s not a riot; it’s just a soft-spoken way toward change.”

He further listed specifically how it’s helping employees and how workplaces can create a supportive environment:

How is it helping employees?

  • Quiet Thriving is a mindset that is said to reduce instances of burnout, increase job satisfaction, and strengthen its practitioners’ mental functioning.
  • By focusing on the aspects within their control, Quiet Thrivers become reacquainted with considered meaning in settings that otherwise would drain them.

How can workplaces support quiet thriving?

  • Managers can support this by giving employees time and space to express their preferences -through flexible hours, regular feedback loops, or clear growth pathways.
  • Even small tweaks, such as carving time for creative expression or assembling a group of mentors, create much energy.

HR strategies to make workplace more fun

All is not dark and gloomy at work, as employees can have fun too at their workplaces. (Shutterstock)

Now, it would be unfair to put the entire onus on employees by expecting them to shift their mindset alone. Change is also a shared responsibility, so the heavy lifting of changing the workplace environment shouldn’t fall solely on them. Sure, employees need to focus on their work and avoid stressing over things beyond their control, but the workplace, too, needs to develop a nurturing environment for employee wellbeing and growth.

Shruti Swaroop, founder of Embrace Consulting and co-founder of International Inclusion Alliance, weighed in on this and said, “When we talk of ‘fun at work,’ we’re not talking about superficial parties or weekly festivities. We’re talking about an arena where employees feel psychologically safe, emotionally engaged, and intrinsically motivated. Where laughter is not ambient noise, it’s a cue for trust. And play moments aren’t distractions; they’re ignition points for collaboration and creativity. ”

She listed out 3 practical ways HRs can make work more fun:

1. Incorporate gamification into everyday performance

  • By leveraging aspects of reward, monitoring progress, and competition through challenge to learning, performance, or onboarding, HR can turn the previously mundane processes into a fun experience.
  • For example, introducing an online badge scheme for developing skills or designing an innovation-focussed, cross-functional team challenge not only delivers results but also fosters team spirit.

2. Establish deliberate micro-cultures of happiness

  • It’s not the big events but the small, regular rituals that build culture. HR can craft ‘micro-moments’ of happiness built into the workweek, whether 10-minute gratitude circles, peer shout-outs on common boards, or team storytelling circles.
  • These create spaces of humanity at work and make people feel seen beyond their job title.

3. Organise employee-owned culture committees

  • HR needs to move from being planners to being enablers by establishing employee-owned involvement or ‘culture’ committees.
  • They are cross-sections of employees from the diversity of the organisation that can co-create experiences that resonate with them, from wellness weeks and interest clubs to celebration events and community volunteerism.

All hope is not gone, and the workplace is not all dark and gloomy. With quiet thriving, employees can feel joyful and confident. Quiet thriving is slowly revolutionising the way employees work and feel in workplaces.

Yash’s ‘Toxic’ Gets J.J. Perry and All-Indian Stunt Team for Shoot

by jummy84 August 25, 2025
written by jummy84

While most productions would batten down the hatches during Mumbai’s punishing monsoon season, the makers of “Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-ups” are doing the opposite — leaning into the chaos with what’s being touted as one of Indian cinema’s most audacious action shoots to date.

At the eye of this creative storm is J.J. Perry, the Hollywood action architect behind the bone-crunching choreography of “John Wick” and “Fast & Furious.” The stunt veteran is currently deep into a 45-day action marathon that’s redefining the playbook for Indian cinema spectacle.

But here’s the kicker: Perry, who typically assembles international dream teams of stunt specialists, has gone fully local this time around — handpicking an entirely Indian crew after witnessing their chops firsthand.

“This Indian crew is world-class. That’s precisely why I chose to work with them,” Perry says. “We’re tackling a major sequence right now, and I’m super stoked about taking this on. It’s a challenge, but I love a great challenge — and this team is meeting it head-on. We’re here to push boundaries together — and that’s what filmmaking is.”

KVN Productions/Monster Mind Creations

The high-octane sequence currently in production is the culmination of months of meticulous pre-production ballet between Perry, superstar Yash (who’s also producing), director Geetu Mohandas, VFX house DNEG, and producer Venkat K. Narayana. The Yash-Narayana combine has unlocked the massive war chest needed to mount one of the most Indian ambitious projects in recent memory.

The prep work reads like a masterclass in modern action filmmaking: extensive storyboarding, previz sessions, tactical rehearsals, and creative pow-wows aimed at creating an action language described by the production as “immersive, visceral, and new to Indian cinema.”

“Toxic” is positioning itself as a genre-bending spectacle that marries Perry’s globally-honed sensibilities with Yash’s box office magnetism and Mohandas’ distinctive auteur vision. Yash is white hot after the “K.G.F” franchise as is Mohandas, following Sundance title “Liar’s Dice” and Toronto selection “Moothon.” Yet beneath the pyrotechnics, the filmmakers are gunning for emotional resonance that transcends the visual fireworks.

“In my 35 years of doing this, I’ve worked in 39 countries. I’m a fan of Indian cinema — it’s creative, artistic, and bold,” Perry says. “Getting the chance to work with Yash, Geetu, Venkat and their incredible team has been a highlight. Geetu has great vision, and everyone from cinematographer Rajeev Ravi to the production designer and art team has been fantastic.”

The Mumbai shoot marks another industry first: “Toxic” is being lensed simultaneously in the Kannada and English languages — a bilingual approach that’s rare at this scale — with additional dubbed versions rolling out in Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, and Malayalam. The strategy positions the film not just as a pan-Indian event but as a legitimate global play.

“India’s culture is ancient, rich, and layered. As an American whose culture is only a few hundred years old, coming here and blending global cinematic grammar with Indian storytelling has been very exciting,” Perry notes. “I don’t just want to replicate what’s been done — I want to create something unique. And ‘Toxic’ is giving me that chance.”

Jointly bankrolled by Venkat K. Narayana and Yash under KVN Productions and Monster Mind Creations, “Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-ups” is targeting a worldwide theatrical rollout on March 19, 2026.

“Winston became The Toxic Avenger! The first superhero born out of nuclear waste!” Cineverse unveiled a fun throwback “grindhouse” trailer for the bonkers horror remake of The Toxic Avenger. Finally hitting theaters at the end of this month. Don’t miss it! The original Toxic Avenger from 1984 is a Lloyd Kaufman / Troma horror cult classic. Many sequels were made, but now Troma has teamed up with Legendary for a brand new take. Macon Blair’s The Toxic Avenger reboot follows struggling everyman-janitor Winston Gooze (starring Peter Dinklage as our new anti-hero) who is transformed by a horrible toxic accident into a new kind of superhero: The Toxic Avenger! With super-human strength & wielding a glowing mop, Toxie must race against time to both save his son & stop a ruthless, power-hungry corporate tyrant. This also stars Jacob Tremblay, Taylour Paige, Julia Davis, Jonny Coyne, Elijah Wood, and Kevin Bacon. This retro trailer comes from Bloody-Disgusting and is created by Wilson Cleveland to feel like it comes straight from 1984 (when the original first debuted).
