Heart surgeon with 25 years of experience explains how daylight saving time affects your body: ‘That 1 hour change can…’

by jummy84 November 11, 2025
written by jummy84

Every year, as winter approaches, many countries turn their clocks back by an hour to mark the end of daylight saving time – a practice originally introduced to make better use of daylight and conserve energy. While this shift may seem small and even welcome for adding an extra hour of rest, experts say it can take a surprising toll on the body. Even a one-hour disruption can throw off the circadian rhythm, making it harder for many people to adjust physically and mentally.

Dr Jeremy London, a cardiothoracic surgeon with over 25 years of clinical experience, has shed light on the surprising effects that daylight saving time can have on the human body. In an Instagram video posted on November 10, the cardiac surgeon explains how even a one-hour shift can disrupt the body’s natural rhythm and offers practical tips to help the body adjust smoothly.

How does daylight saving affect your body?

Dr London points out that with the arrival of winter, our clocks shift back by an hour each year – a change brought on by daylight saving time. However, while the extra hour may seem like a bonus to your daily routine, it doesn’t necessarily do your body any favours.

He explains, “That 1 hour change can throw your circadian rhythm completely off. The result is a measurable increase in heart attacks, strokes, mood disturbances, car accidents, and even all cause mortality in the days following the transition.”

Why does this happen?

According to the cardiac surgeon, our body’s internal clock is closely aligned with natural light exposure. When this rhythm is disrupted, it can throw the body’s overall balance and normal functioning off track.

Dr London explains, “Studies show that our internal biology clock is tightly synced to light exposure. When we abruptly change it, sleep quality drops, cortisol rises, and inflammation increases, especially in the spring. Now, some are affected more than others, but none of us are immune.”

How to adjust to daylight saving?

Dr London notes that the American Academy of Sleep Medicine recommends maintaining a permanent standard time, as it aligns more closely with our natural biology and helps reduce potential health risks. But until that happens, the cardiologist suggests ways to adjust accordingly.

He elaborates, “Prioritize consistent sleep, morning sunlight, and mindful breaks. I found that meditation, outdoor walks, and even sauna sessions help me reset after the time change because sleep is king. If your sleep is off, it affects every aspect of your life.”

For the first time in 35 years, the Billboard Top 40 has no hip-hop or rap songs. Here’s why – National

written by jummy84

Starting in the late ’70s, hip-hop and rap ascended through popular culture, mostly in America but also in other countries.

Then, in 1990, a breakthrough. Hip-hop and rap tracks began infiltrating the Billboard Top 40, and for the next 35 years, we saw dozens of these songs reach official hit status. By the end of the decade, hip-hop/rap had supplanted rock as the nation’s cultudral driver when it came to music. It seemed unstoppable. America would forever be a hip-hop nation.

This month, however, a surprise. For the first time since 1990, the Billboard Top 40 was devoid of any hip-hop and rap.

What happened? Does this mean it’s on the decline and on the way out? Well, no. The genres are very alive and well. Its absence has more to do with the way charts are compiled these days than the popularity or strength of the songs.

Story continues below advertisement

Charts are the way the music industry keeps score with itself. The higher a song or album rises, the more opportunities for hype. Radio play increases, sales go up, and more people stream the songs. And at the end of the year, the record company executives measure themselves against each other over who had the most high-charting singles and albums.

And it used to be so simple. Charts were compiled based on sales and radio airplay. In the streaming era, there’s a complicated weighting system that tries to convert digital music consumption into old-school sales. One modern metric is the Track Equivalent Album (TEA). Under this formula, 10 digital song sales from the same album equal the sale of one album, thereby unifying digital sales with physical ones.

Billboard also has Streaming Equivalent Sales (SEA). This measurement counts on-demand plays of a song through Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music and all the other platforms. If 1,500 songs are streamed from the same album, that counts the same as an old-school sale of an album. Radio airplay plus sales and TEA and SEA are supposed to give the industry an accurate and complete picture of how a certain release is doing.

Put this all together and we have a chart compilation situation that is vastly different from what late broadcaster, Casey Kasem, used to count down every weekend. There’s plenty of gamesmanship happening.

When Taylor Swift puts out an album, like her latest, The Life of a Showgirl, Swifties buy up all the available physical copies of the record. There’s the standard vinyl release and seven additional variants, each with its own artwork and on various colours of vinyl. No Tay-Tay collection is complete without all of them, and each sale of a variant counts as an individual sale. Talk about juicing the numbers.

Story continues below advertisement

Swifties also stream her music by the tens of millions, increasing the SEA units for The Life of a Showgirl, pushing the album even further up the charts. And because streams also factor heavily in compiling the Billboard Hot 100 (which, of course, includes the official Top 40), Swift dominates. For the week ending Nov. 8,  the performer has three songs in the Top 10 and 12 in the Top 40, leaving just 28 spaces for everyone else.

Other artists are currently benefiting from the current chart rules. HUNTR/X (Huntrix), the fictional girl group from KPop Demon Hunters, is a streaming sensation with four songs in the current Top 40, leaving 24 spots — 23, if you count the song released by Rumi, Jinu, EJAE and Andrew Choi, the human voices behind HUNTR/X.

Then there are the Saja Boys, the fictional boy band from KPop Demon Hunters, who hold down two spots of their own.

Add in Morgan Wallen (two songs), Chris Brown (two songs) and Sabrina Carpenter (two songs), and there are only 17 spaces up for grabs. Those are divided up among pop artists like Olivia Dean, Alex Warren, Justin Bieber, Benson Boone, Tate McCrae and Kehlani.

Michael Jackson also made his annual appearance with Thriller (No. 32), which is always big around Halloween. There was only one debut last week, and that’s Love Girl from Megan Thee Stallion, which is more smooth R&B than anything else.

Story continues below advertisement

There’s another factor, too. Billboard just changed the rules regarding eligible songs. Luther by Kendrick Lamar and SZA was kicked out of the Top 40 after 46 weeks, including 13 weeks at No. 1. Why? Because it didn’t stick at No. 25 or higher after its 26th week on the chart. Boom. Gone. The song is now deemed “recurrent,” a radio term for a big hit that’s still popular after an extended period of time but no longer current. No Luther, no hip-hop/rap in the Hot 100.

Have your eyes glazed over yet? If they have, I don’t blame you. I do this for a living, and I’m having a hard time staying awake.

Remember all this the next time someone tells you that Taylor Swift is bigger than The Beatles. When they were around, Billboard operated its charts much differently. Comparing The Beatles’ chart performance to Tay-Tay’s is silly since the rules are vastly different. It’s not just apples and oranges. It’s apples and mushrooms.

Does this mean that hip-hop/rap is on the way out? Hardly. It’s a quirk of the mathematics involved in compiling charts, combined with the phenomenon of Taylor Swift and KPop Demon Hunters.

YoungBoy Never Broke Again; BigXthaPlug and Ella Langley are rap tracks bubbling under at the moment. They’ll probably advance upwards as Tay-Tay and the Demon Hunters are streamed less, and hip-hop/rap will return to the Top 40.

Story continues below advertisement

Anyone who grew up with Top 40 radio in the ’60s, ’70s and ’80s was exposed to a wide variety of sounds and genres. Not so much anymore, right? The Billboard charts may matter less than they ever did.

Madhuri Dixit On Pay Disparity
Bollywood

“We Have To Prove It Every Time”

Madhuri Dixit On Pay Disparity ( Photo Credit – Instagram )

Madhuri Dixit is one of the most promising actresses of Bollywood. She marked her acting debut in 1984 with the film Abodh and went on to deliver unforgettable performances in films like Sailaab, Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!, and Devdas. She dominated the big screen in the 1990s, her charm, talent, and timeless appeal continue to win hearts even today. Let’s revisit the time when Madhuri Dixit shared her thoughts on the long-standing discussion of pay disparity in the Hindi film industry. Read on to know more.

During a candid conversation at IIFA 2025, the Devdas actress shared her honest take on gender pay disparity in Bollywood. Madhuri Dixit revealed how women in the industry still have to work twice as hard to prove their worth and match their male counterparts’ paychecks. Her words hit home for many, reigniting a conversation Bollywood has long brushed under the carpet.

Madhuri Dixit Shared Her Thought On Pay Disparity

According to Bollywood Bubble, during the special segment “The Journey of Women in Cinema” hosted by the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) 2025 in Jaipur, Rajasthan, Madhuri Dixit addressed the issue of the gender pay gap. The actress said, “I think for the women, they have to prove themselves time and again, and to say that we’re equal, we can bring the audience to the theaters, we can do that, but we have to prove it every single time.”

She further added, “And yes, there is still a disparity. It’s like pushing the envelope every time, a little bit more; it’s like baby steps. We are still a long way from actually when disparity doesn’t happen. I think we have a long way to go, and we have to kind of work every day towards that.”

Filmmaker Guneet Monga Addressed The Issue Of Pay Parity

Joining the discussion, filmmaker Guneet Monga also shared her thoughts on the same topic. She said, “Yes, there is a pay gap, and I want male actors to start addressing this issue too. We are already on the receiving end. We need to create more opportunities for women in films. Look at Stree 2 – if we have more successful women-led films like these, we’ll get closer to closing that gap.”

More About Madhuri Dixit

On the work front, Madhuri was last seen in Anees Bazmee’s Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3. It also featured Katrik Aaryan, Triptii Dimri, and Vidya Balan in pivotal roles. She is gearing up for her upcoming comedy-drama film Ma Bhen. The film is directed by Suresh Triveni and features Triptii Dimri and Ravi Kishan in lead roles.

This ‘the Best Time That Standup Comedy Has Ever Had’

by jummy84 November 9, 2025
written by jummy84

If Tom Hanks is known as the “everyman” of movies — you know, the ordinary guys, so approachable and unpretentious that just about everybody can relate to him in one way or another — then Jim Gaffigan is the “everyman” of comedy. He focuses his humor on everyday observations about universal experiences. And although most outsiders see the divisive political climate at this time in history as putting humor on trial, Gaffigan looks at it differently.

“I think this will go down in history — and it may be ending as we speak — but like, this is the best time that standup comedy has ever had,” he says. “When I started — versus even in the time of Lenny Bruce or George Carlin — comedy was a much more middle-class/lower middle-class occupation, meaning, there was not an expectation of an upper middle-class existence. Now, if you’re a functional comedian, you can make a great living. So, from a monetary standpoint, like having a kind of financial security, it would never exist. But it exists now.”

These days political humor gets comedians in hot water no matter which side of the issues they fall. But Gaffigan chooses to not go there, siting the pandemic as an example. “Take politics out of it,” he says. “There were expectations that you can address it. But, people, we’ve gone through the pandemic; we don’t want to hear too much about it. … There are comedians that will have very strong views, you know, and have a formula of bringing up this hot button issue. Their audience will stay with them. They’ll have some brilliant insights surrounding it. But I’m kind of of the opinion that, you know, people don’t wanna live in denial, but they also want a break from it.”

The Illinois native has accomplished a whole lot since moving to New York in 1990 to pursue a career in comedy. It all began when a friend in an acting class dared him to attend a stand-up seminar that required the students to do a live comedy set at the end of the course. He loved it, but it began a cycle of attempting to determine — and nailing down — his style. The guy now known as the “clean comic” with the laid-back delivery tried everything from impressions to “angry comedy.” Seven years later, he found his voice, and his comedy has been evolving ever since.

Gaffigan performs onstage during the 2025 Night of Too Many Stars benefiting Next for Autism.

Some might call the quiet confidence he projects on stage courageous, but Gaffigan sees it differently. “I think it’s just mental illness, honestly,” he jokes. But on a more serious note, he compares the mental psyching up a comedian must do on stage to what parents face every day. “I see this as a parent, that we develop these kind of metaphorical calluses or scabs that make us much more resistant.”

Parenting five children, ages 13-21, has been the inspiration for much of his act and a catalyst for the evolution of his humor, because, as he says, if you have that many kids, you have to have a sense of humor. “I’ve said this for years — if your kids aren’t annoying you or you aren’t frustrated by the task of parenting, that means you’re not participating in the task of parenting,” he says. “I think the love I have for my children and the absolute fear that I’m failing colossally is shared by every parent. So the impact of parenting is so enormous on my stand-up.”

Parenting teenagers in this day and age of social media has not been easy, one that Gaffigan calls “a disaster” and “impossible” — but it certainly has resulted in both his personal growth and his growth as a comedian. “The fact that I have this approach of the ‘drowning continues’ is something that is a nice reprieve for parents. Do you know what I mean? Where they’re not alone. The struggles of being a parent and the struggles of your child are so understandably private. I have this joke right now where I talk about parents of teenagers always sound like they’re hiding something, and it really resonates.

“It’s that experience of parenting that has evolved. So people that enjoy my standup, they might be at a different point in their parental journey, but they can identify with what I’m talking about.”

Gaffigan with his wife Jeannie, left, and their children attending a ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’ world premiere in 2016.

Paul Bruinooge/Patrick McMullan

Caroline Hirsch, founder and former owner of the New York comedy club Carolines on Broadway, is known for an innate knack for identifying the next big thing in comedy… and Gaffigan was one of those comedians. “I first met Jim when he was performing and honing his craft very early in his career at my club [Carolines on Broadway] on Broadway,” she recalls. “Even then, he had such a distinct voice, literally and comedically. There was this sharp observational humor and a quiet confidence about him that stood out. He could make the everyday and the mundane feel hilarious and relatable without ever being mean-spirited.”

Hirsch also reflected on his professional evolution. “It’s been incredible to watch Jim’s growth over the years,” she adds. “His material has deepened. He’s still just as funny, but there’s a warmth and perspective that have come with his experiences as a father, husband and seasoned performer. Jim has managed to stay true to his comedic voice while continuing to evolve creatively, which is why he remains one of the most respected and beloved comedians in the industry today.”

Respected, indeed. Gaffigan is a seven-time Grammy nominated comedian, actor, writer, producer, two-time New York Times best-selling author, three-time Emmy winning top touring performer, and multi-platinum-selling recording artist. Yet, he still has an air about him that is humble, sincere and, as Hirsch put it, warm.

“I feel like if I’m humble and sincere, it’s out of necessity, you know what I mean?” he jokes, proving the point. “Like, I think, if something could go wrong or will get complicated, it will happen to me. It’s kind of an ongoing joke with my manager. But that being said, I’m also grateful and appreciative of the things I’ve gotten to do.”

From West End Girl to Sour, the 10 Best Revenge Albums of All Time

by jummy84 November 9, 2025
written by jummy84

The common adage may dictate that revenge is a dish best served cold, but—luckily for us—musicians tend to serve it piping hot, with a side of pettiness. And though plenty of standalone clap-back tracks have emerged from celebrity break-ups, it takes a certain level of passion, skill, and audacity to commit to an entire revenge album.

Lily Allen’s West End Girl—a scathing, no-holds-barred album allegedly at least partly inspired by the dissolution of her marriage to Stranger Things star David Harbour—takes the idea of airing your dirty laundry to a level that few others would dare to, even by today’s oversharing standards. Reportedly written and recorded in Los Angeles over the course of just 10 days, it has the feel of someone setting their diary entries and voice notes to music, and has spawned a thousand reaction videos since being released in October.

Rosalía’s Lux, meanwhile, sees pop’s most sonically ambitious star working through themes of sex, regret, heartbreak, and, yes, revenge. Though much of the press around the album—as well as its artwork, in which Rosalía dons a nun’s-habit-slash-straightjacket—has focused on the singer’s path to emotional salvation, there are plenty of shots fired throughout, perhaps most overtly on “La Perla,” in which she calls a former partner a “peace thief,” “emotional terrorist,” a “walking red flag,” and “huge disaster.”

Here, find 10 of the best to ever go long-form with revenge.

SZA speaks publicly for first time about online feud with Nicki Minaj

SZA has spoken publicly for the first time about her online feud with Nicki Minaj.

SZA has spoken publicly for the first time about her online feud with Nicki Minaj

The 35-year-old performer said she does not understand how the dispute began and insists there is “no backstory” behind their public exchange.

In an interview with GQ magazine for its November cover, SZA – real name is Solána Rowe – added she had never met Nicki, 42, and was surprised by the confrontation that unfolded between them on social media platform X earlier this year.

She said: “I don’t know her. We have no connection to each other.

“Like, there was no through line narrative. It was just like, ‘Roc Nation’… I don’t know where it came from.”

The clash began in July, when Nicki appeared to believe SZA had subtweeted her over a post referencing the singer’s former manager Terrence ‘Punch’ Henderson.

Nicki responded by posting several critical tweets directed at SZA, writing the Saturn singer “look(ed) and sound(ed) like she got stung by a f****** bee.”

SZA told GQ: “That’s not even my place to correct a narrative that I don’t got s— to do with. It was a little strange. It was very like, ‘Why?’ But also, you know ‘I guess.’.”

During the exchange, SZA appeared to step away from the argument, posting on X: “I don’t give a f*** bout none of that weird s*** you popping… Lmao lemme go back to being calm shy and meek.”

Nicki later escalated the feud by criticising SZA’s decision to re-release her 2022 album SOS as the deluxe version Lana.

She wrote: “B**** put out a whole new album as a deluxe to an already existing album that was out for like a year or 2 so the original album could break records.

“Like what in the insecure lack of morals and integrity you doing? I thought she was like a real artist? Girl bye.”

The Super Bass rapper went on to claim that if “every song (SZA had) ever done vanished right now the music business wouldn’t even miss (her),” adding: “I’ve been to countries that never heard of (SZA.)”

SZA responded by sharing a screenshot of a text exchange from 2020, showing Nicki had previously contacted her about a potential collaboration on a song called Don’t Do.

She said: “Nicki. You absolutely know my music and what I contribute cause you’ve asked for features twice to no response. “In addition to rapping my lyrics on Feeling Myself ‘cooking up the bass looking like a kilo’? Lol ur having a moment .. im not sure why but be blessed.”

Nicki’s 2014 track Feeling Myself, featuring Beyoncé, was co-written by SZA.

Following the dispute, Nicki also reposted old tweets from SZA that appeared to criticise Beyoncé and Rihanna.

In October, Cardi B, who has her own long-running feud with Nicki, weighed in on the situation, writing on X: “Girl STFUUU done beefed with every black woman in the industry like girl who tf beef with SZA??”

Both SZA and Nicki have each scored three No 1 singles on the Billboard Hot 100.

SZA released her Lana deluxe album in December 2024, while Nicki’s most recent record, Pink Friday 2, was released in 2023.

A sell-out is expected at Hillsborough on Wednesday evening as the Championship’s two bottom clubs – Sheffield Wednesday and Norwich City – face off.

The midweek clash is the Owls’ first home game since the club’s administration took control out of the hands of problematic owner Dejphon Chansiri and fans have responded to calls to get the ground bouncing.

Wednesday earned a hard-fought draw away at West Brom on Saturday, snapping their losing streak at four games, and will view Norwich’s visit as a chance to claim their second Championship win of the season.

The Canaries have lost six on the bounce to drop to 23rd in the table as the dismal start to Liam Manning’s tenure has continued.

Manning appears to retain the support of the club chiefs but that could change if their struggles coninue in the Steel City.

Consider, for example, Kim Kardashian and her daughter North’s Clueless-inspired costumes designed by Dolce & Gabbana in 2023. Or, Kylie Jenner’s haute bride of Frankenstein moment care of Jean Paul Gaultier in 2022. In both cases, the recreations were so spot-on that even the most careful viewer might have been briefly fooled.

Of course, there have been plenty of other impeccable impersonations from other A-listers as well—including Lizzo as Marge Simpson, Hailey Bieber as Britney Spears, Rihanna as the rapper Gunna, and Margot Robbie as Ginger Spice. And who could forget when Bella Hadid dressed as Winona Ryder in Beetlejuice, Cardi B embodied Medusa, and a heavily pregnant Emily Ratajkowski mimicked Demi Moore’s legendary Vanity Fair cover shoot? Within the last decades, there have also been multiple (and stellar) iterations of Morticia Addams, Jessica Rabbit, Marilyn Monroe, and Sandy from Grease.

Just last year saw unexpected costumes that were just as winning. Doja Cat transformed herself into a sunflower; Kim Kardashian, an albino alligator. Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco, meanwhile, went full Alice in Wonderland.

2025’s H’ween offerings saw the stars go just as hard: Paris Hilton revisited Britney Spears and took on Madonna and Catwoman, while Keke Palmer sweetly recruited her son to channel Snoop Dogg and Bow Wow. There were more memes and niche pop culture references too: Mindy Kahling emulated a hyped-up Timothée Chalamet cheering on his beloved New York Knicks, and Demi Lovato (already our 2025 winner?) resurrected Poot Lovato. The Biebers—Justin, Hailey, and Jack Blues—brought some swag to The Incredibles

Here, we revisit those and many more of the best celebrity Halloween costumes over the years. One thing is certain: a good costume always elicits delight and—when they are really good—also a fair share of fright. Either way, they are sure to help you come up with some killer costume ideas of your own. Happy hauntings!
