Radiohead, Dua Lipa Petition UK Government to Cap Ticket Resale Prices

by jummy84 November 13, 2025
written by jummy84

A group of more than 40 British musicians, including Radiohead, Dua Lipa, and Coldplay, have signed a statement to the U.K. government asking Prime Minister Keir Starmer to honor his pledge to tackle “extortionate and pernicious” websites that resell concert tickets.

In the statement, artists like Sam Fender, PJ Harvey, The Cure’s Robert Smith, Iron Maiden, New Order, and Nick Cave asked the government to take action against “secondary ticketing” platforms like Viagogo and StubHub.

“For too long certain resale platforms have allowed touts to bulk buy and then resell tickets at inflated prices, forcing fans to either pay above the odds or miss out entirely,” they wrote. “This erodes trust in the live events sector and undermines the efforts of artists and organizers to make shows accessible and affordable.”

The statement asks for a hard cap on on resale prices to “help fix elements of the extortionate and pernicious secondary ticketing market that serve the interests of touts, whose exploitative practices are preventing genuine fans from accessing the music, theatre and sports they love.”

Other signees include organizations like UK Music, FanFair Alliance, and the Football Supporters’ Association. The letter, created in tandem with a study from consumer group Which?, notes that the end of for-profit resale would make it “easier for fans to spot illegal behavior” and would not encourage fans to seek resale tickets on less regulated sites.

“Today’s joint statement makes clear that artists, fan organizations and consumers reject the broken ticketing market that has allowed touts to thrive for too long,” Lisa Webb, Which? consumer law expert, said in a statement alongside the letter. “The Prime Minister pledged to protect fans and a price cap on resold tickets will be a critical step towards fixing this industry, but he must commit to this legislation by including it in the next King’s Speech. Further reforms are also needed to ensure sellers actually own the tickets they advertise before listing them, that resale platforms ensure the identities of sellers and key information about a ticket are verified and that the new rules are effectively enforced.”

Editor’s picks

Starmer’s Labour government promised during the last general election to cap ticket resale prices, however hasn’t taken the necessary action yet. In January, the government launched a consultation on a cap amount that would limit the price increase to between zero and a 30 percent on the face value of a ticket.

Trending Stories

A government spokesperson told the BBC, “This government is fully committed to clamping down on touts and is going further to put fans back at the heart of live events. We have carefully considered evidence provided in response to our consultation earlier this year and will set out our plans shortly.”

Which? also released the results of a consumer study that took place in August and September. The organization looked into traders selling tickets for some of the biggest U.K. events on Stubhub and Viagogo. It found that many resale tickets were aggressively inflated in price. For instance, Oasis tickets for the band’s Wembley Stadium shows were listed for £3,498.85 on Stubhub and £4,442 on Viagogo. A ticket for the All Points East festival in London’s Victoria Park, headlined by Raye, was listed for £114,666 on Viagogo.

Creator Camp and Attend Want to Make Online Audiences Ticket Buyers

by jummy84 November 4, 2025
written by jummy84

Most creator projects still live (and die) online. Creator Camp wants to change that.

The Austin-based creator collective distribution arm, Camp Studios, signed a three-picture theatrical deal with Attend Theatrical Marketplace, the Fithian Group company that connects filmmakers directly with movie theaters, streamlining the process of booking and releasing films.

The first title, rom-com “Two Sleepy People,” opens November 14 in 20 markets. It’s directed by Baron Ryan, who co-wrote it with Caroline Grossman; they both star. (More here.) The premise is very TikTok-adjacent: Two distant co-workers wake up every morning as strangers, but every night they’re married.

Robert Longstreet in Todd Rohal's "Fuck My Son!"; Baron Ryan and Caroline Grossman in Ryan's "Two Sleepy People"

The real bet is if creators already know their audience, why can’t that audience show up to a cinema?

Creator Camp says its network of 300 digital-native filmmakers accounts for over 3B annual views. They’ve already been pressure-testing theatrical demand: the film premiered at Creator Camp’s flagship Austin event, where 1,000 attendees generated $150,000 in ticket sales. A four-city micro-tour followed in Seattle, Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York, averaging $10,429 per screen.

Attend is led by NATO veterans Jackie Brenneman, John Fithian, and Patrick Corcoran, with the ambition to use data and AI to directly match films with theaters and audiences.

So, in theory: Attend wants to make theatrical distribution transactional and demand-based; Creator Camp has creators who can actually deliver audiences.

“Today’s filmmakers grew up online and they understand their audiences because they engage with them constantly, which has allowed them to build massive, loyal communities,” said Creator Camp founder and CEO Max Reisinger. “That direct connection solves a huge challenge in theatrical distribution. Instead of relying on outdated models that guess who will show up, our creators can bring fans to theaters they’ve already cultivated online, turning digital engagement into real-world box office success.”

Brenneman sees it as smart math. “Movie theaters are vital places for community. When the movies are there, so are audiences. In partnership with the innovative approach of Creator Camp, we can build on the enthusiastic followers of filmmakers online, connect them directly to theaters, and with Attend create demand-driven theatrical releases.”

For all the existential dread around the theatrical business, it’s a forward-looking model that relies on conversion and community.

That’s a little different from “finding an audience”; it’s believing that the audience is already here; you just need to point them at a screen. It suggests that the future of filmmaking might not be “online vs theatrical”; it could be online to theatrical, when the community wants it.

“Two Sleepy People” opens November 14; more markets are contingent on demand signals. Tickets and theater requests at twosleepypeople.com.

CashorTrade, Fan-to-Fan Ticket Exchange, Names Two Execs to Leadership

by jummy84 October 27, 2025
written by jummy84

Face value ticket exchange CashorTrade has added two major names to its leadership ranks as the fan-first ticketing platform continues to gain traction across the live music industry. Industry veterans Andrew Dreskin — best known as co-founder and former CEO of Ticketfly and TicketWeb — and Craig Snyder, formerly of Intellitix and Lyte, have joined the company’s executive team in key leadership roles.

Related

Dreskin joins as strategic advisor while Snyder takes on the role of vp of business development & partnerships. In his role, Snyder will focus on expanding alliances with artists, promoters and festivals that share the company’s commitment to equitable access to live events.

“When veterans like Dreskin and Snyder join forces with a grassroots platform like CashorTrade, it’s a clear signal that the face value movement is no longer fringe — it’s the future,” said Brando Rich, co-founder of CashorTrade, in a statement. “Their expertise will help us scale our mission to make live events more accessible, equitable, and community-driven.”

Snyder added that CashorTrade’s fan-first foundation, founded in 2009, now has more than 1 million verified members. “Throughout my career, I’ve worked to tackle one of the industry’s biggest challenges — scalping and sky-high resale prices that hurt everyone: fans, artists, and venues,” he said. “CashorTrade is built differently. Whether a show is sold out or not, it gives fans a legitimate place to exchange tickets at fair prices while helping promoters fill seats. I’m looking forward to building partnerships that expand this community and make CashorTrade’s Gold Membership even more essential for live music fans.”

Ford wants to revisit ending ticket scalping amid Blue Jays ‘gouging’

by jummy84 October 22, 2025
written by jummy84

As Toronto Blue Jays tickets are resold for thousands of dollars, Ontario Premier Doug Ford says his government may revive anti-scalping legislation it previously killed shortly after assuming office.

“My personal opinion, going to talk to the whole team, they’re gouging the people,” he told reporters on Wednesday afternoon. “We have one player in the market that controls the tickets, that’s not right for the people.”

Asked if he’d consider legislation specifically, Ford said his government would look at the option.

Ford’s comments come a day after Blue Jays World Series tickets went on sale on Ticketmaster. Less than two hours after sales began, tickets were being listed for sale for more than $2,000.

On Tuesday, a single ticket in section 135 in the Rogers Centre for Game 1 was priced at $4,954. The lowest individual ticket found was in section 510 for $1,723, taxes included.

The prices caused uproar on social media, with many Jays fans questioning why a ticket could be purchased within minutes and potentially put back on the market for a significantly higher cost than it was likely purchased for.

The anger over price resales is not new, with anger erupting last year during Taylor Swift’s Eras tour which saw similar ticket prices and frustration.

Ford’s government previously scrapped part of a law that would have capped ticket resale prices at 50 per cent above the original face value.

A section in the previous Liberal government’s Ticket Sales Act would have imposed that cap, but the Progressive Conservatives paused implementing it shortly after the 2018 election.

A year later in 2019, it cancelled the rule, saying it was unenforceable and that it would have driven consumers to buy tickets on the black market and drive costs higher.

Story continues below advertisement

The Liberals under former premier Kathleen Wynne had originally introduced the legislation to tackle “scalper bots” that scoop up huge blocks of tickets.

John Fraser, the Ontario Liberals’ parliamentary leader, told reporters Wednesday that reviving anti-scalping legislation was the “right thing to do.”

“When we’re all waiting in line and we’re not getting tickets and the next second we see is 10, 12 times the price, that’s not fair,” Fraser said.

NDP Leader Marit Stiles, asked if the legislation should be brought back, told reporters it should, “100 per cent.”

“We asked for this when it came to the Taylor Swift concert, right, we need the government to take action,” Stiles said, adding her party will present something soon in the legislature.

In his comments Wednesday, Ford said he doesn’t believe in one company “controlling everything,” and specifically named Ticketmaster.

Karnataka HC extends stay order on movie ticket price cap, will it affect Kantara Chapter 1 collections? Details inside

Karnataka HC extends stay order on movie ticket price cap, will it affect Kantara Chapter 1 collections? Details inside

by jummy84 October 4, 2025
written by jummy84

On Friday, the Karnataka High Court extended its stay order on the ₹200 price limit imposed on movie tickets in all multiplexes in the state. The Multiplex Association of India has moved court against the Karnataka State Film Chamber of Commerce’s decision to cap ticket prices in the state.

Kantara Chapter 1 stars Rishab Shetty in this charged-up prequel to Kantara.

The extension comes as Rishab Shetty’s Kantara Chapter 1 is running to packed houses across the state. Theatre owners had hoped that not having a ticket price cap during such a blockbuster would help their businesses by increasing collections.

The Karnataka High Court order

In the case of Karnataka State Film Chamber of Commerce vs Multiplex Association of India, filed before the Principal Bench of the Karnataka High Court, the Court, on 30.09.2025, in addition to continuing the stay order issued on 23.09.2025 regarding the ₹200 limit imposed on cinema tickets, has ordered as follows.

All cash transactions shall be digitally traceable, and cash registers shall be countersigned by the manager of the multiplex daily. The court has also asked moviegoers to keep a record of their tickets and save them for potential reimbursement in the future, in case the price cap is upheld by the court at a later date.

“In case the petitioner is successful in the final judgment of this appeal/petition, all the amounts collected through electronic means (excluding applicable GST) during the pendency of this writ petition shall be refunded to the individual customers who booked the tickets through the same mode of payment used for the booking. The respondent No. 1 shall submit a refund process plan to the licensing authority within 45 days from today for approval, which shall explain the procedure for refunding the customers. After approval by the licensing authority, it shall be placed before this court for final approval,” the order read

Will the order affect Kantara Chapter 1?

Not having a price cap means multiplex owners can price tickets higher than ₹200, which is the case in most tier-1 multiplexes across Karnataka right now. Given it’s the festive season, the high ticket prices have not deterred even the family audiences from coming to the theatres. And Kantara Chapter 1 has reaped the rewards. The film registered 82% occupancy for its Kannada shows on Friday, including 95-100% for night shows in centres like Bengaluru and Hubli. This will only increase over the weekend.

By the time the court rules on the price cap in its next hearing, Kantara Chapter 1 will have completed the bulk of its run. Any refund that could be given to the viewers later would come from the theatres’ pockets.

Written and directed by Rishab Shetty, Kantara Chapter 1 earned over ₹100 crore in India in its first two days. It is poised for a long run at the box office and is likely to end up as one of the highest-grossing Indian films of the year.

SXSW London has confirmed on Monday (Sept. 22) it will return to the English capital in 2026 and announced ticket details for the upcoming event.

The European edition of SXSW will run from June 1 to 6 in east London for a second consecutive year. The 2025 edition took place throughout venues and locations in Shoreditch in June. Tickets for the event are set to launch on Oct. 20 from the festival’s website.

2025’s program saw a live performance from Tems as part of Billboard’s The Stage, a European premiere of Eminem documentary Stans, and a visit from King Charles.

Submissions for session proposals across the 2026 conference, music and screen verticals are also now open. The winning selections for the conference are reviewed by the public before being considered by an advisory group and editorial team for inclusion in the festival. The music festival and screen festival public submissions are managed by industry jury votes.

The submissions period for the conference program will close on Dec. 7, and from the following day, the public will be able to view and vote for their favorites. Submissions for the music vertical will close on Nov. 24, and close for screen on Dec. 31.

SXSW London has also announced 15 “forward-thinking” conference tracks, which include topics such as artificial intelligence, startup innovation and immersive realities. In 2025, 9,868 submissions were made across its three verticals (screen, conference, music), with the conference strand attracting 40,000 public votes. The festival featured 400 talks, 1067 speakers, 562 music performances and 114 film and TV screenings.

Katy Arnander, director of programming for SXSW London said in a statement, “Bringing SXSW to London has always been about creating a platform for convergence across technology, business and creativity. Now in our second year, that mission is more alive than ever, and the SXSW London open submissions allows us to build the festival around what is most current and vital in these sectors.

“SXSW London 2026 will build on the momentum of our debut, expanding the scope of ideas, voices and disciplines we convene,” she continued. “We want our attendees to encounter unexpected perspectives and foster bold conversations, and we’re creating an environment for groundbreaking ideas to flourish in one of the most important capital cities in the world.”

Pawan Kalyan’s OG: Telangana Govt Approves Whopping Ticket Hike And Special Shows | Glamsham.com

by jummy84 September 20, 2025
written by jummy84

The upcoming gangster action drama They Call Him OG, starring Pawan Kalyan, has received a significant boost in Telangana ahead of its release. The state government has officially approved a ticket price hike and permitted an early premiere show, generating excitement and debate across the Telugu states.

As per a government order issued on Friday, a special premiere show is allowed on September 24, a day before the official release. Tickets for this premiere will be priced at ₹800. In contrast, Andhra Pradesh has cleared early shows only from 1 AM on September 25, with ticket prices set at ₹1000 — a move that has sparked dissatisfaction among fans.

From September 25 to October 4, Telangana will see increased ticket prices: single-screen tickets will be ₹100 higher, and multiplex prices will rise by ₹150. This brings average rates to ₹277 for single screens and ₹445 for multiplexes. While fans in Telangana welcomed the decision, social media saw backlash from Andhra Pradesh viewers who called for a more uniform policy across both states.

Directed by Sujeeth, They Call Him OG stars Pawan Kalyan as Ojas Gambheera, a feared gangster operating in Mumbai. The film also features Emraan Hashmi (in his Telugu debut), Priyanka Mohan, Arjun Das, and Prakash Raj. Produced by DVV Danayya and Kalyan Dasari under DVV Entertainment, the film’s music is composed by Thaman S.

The film is already creating waves overseas. In the U.S., advance bookings are strong, with OG outselling Pushpa 2 at Cinemark Dallas. Distributor Prathyangira Cinemas has lined up a massive North American release across 89 Cinemark XD locations — possibly crossing 100, setting a new record for Telugu films abroad.

They Call Him OG hits theatres worldwide on September 25.
