Exclusive: Ayushmann Khurrana Celebrates His 5th 100 Crore Film Thamma ( Photo Credit – Maddock Films )

Ayushmann Khurrana is currently enjoying the success of his horror comedy Thamma, also starring Rashmika Mandanna. Helmed by Aditya Sarpotdar, the film is the fifth offering of the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe, and it has led the MHCU to a 1000 crore total in India. Interestingly, Ayushmann is the only Indian actor of his generation who delivered two 100 crore films post-COVID!

The superstar, who is excited for the upcoming trajectory of MHCU, in an exclusive conversation with Koimoi, talked about his box office achievements and how he has never shied away from taking risks. He promised to continue taking risks with his upcoming line of films, which also includes Sooraj Barjatya’s next.

Ayushmann Khurrana On His Box Office Achievements!

The actor has delivered the 5th 100 crore grosser of his career, but Ayushmann emphasized being a pure artist at heart. Talking about delivering the highest-grossing standalone film of MHCU, the actor said, “I’m too right-brained to think about numbers. But one thing that numbers indicate is that you’re reaching out to as many people as possible, and for an artist, that’s very gratifying because what you want to do is for people, and their appreciation is the biggest appreciation.

Sequels Should Have Something To Say!

Discussing picking a sequel, the actor maintained, “I always believe you should not go for a sequel if you have nothing new to say.” However, is there a dilemma while picking a franchise that will work like the initial part? The Andhadhun actor affirms, “So if there’s a tight, ready script with something novel in there, which seamlessly segues to the next film, then of course, it should be an obvious sequel. But otherwise, just to gain something out of it, it doesn’t make sense. So I guess I’m for the freshness and uniqueness of scripts more than just going for sequels.

100 Crore Number Game – Not A Pressure!

Talking about delivering two 100 crore films in a post-pandemic world, Ayushmann Khurrana gladly credited it to his filmmakers. The actor said, “For me, numbers only indicate that you’re reaching as many people as possible. I also believe that I’m fortunate to work with very commercial minds like Dinesh Vijan, Amar Kaushik, Aditya Sarpotdar, and the previous films with Raj Chandel and Ekta Kapoor. I believe that this success, this 100 crore number game, makes me more courageous as an artist to take more risks, which I have taken pre-pandemic.”

He continues, “I would love to do films of that genre, which are probably not commercial, commercial (in quotes, on paper), but they still achieve a good feat at the box office. And, you know, commercial films like Dream Girl, Thamma, or future films like Pati Patni Aur Woh 2 or Sooraj Barjatya’s next film will make me more confident as a risk taker. Because I’m a quintessential risk taker, I will always do that.”

We wish the actor all the best of luck for his upcoming projects.

Stay tuned to Koimoi for exclusive interviews and Bollywood news.

written by jummy84

This year, three new stars entered the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe. Yes, we are talking about Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika Mandanna and Nawazuddin Siddiqui who arrived in theatres with Thamma on Diwali. They won hearts and left us wanting more with unexpected cameos and meta jokes. But the biggest highlight was the announcement of the next film in the universe, which flashed onscreen before Thamma’s screening — makers introduced Saiyaara star Aneet Padda as the leading lady of Shakti Shalini, the sixth film in Dinesh Vijan and Amar Kaushik’s universe. Well, Ayushmann has now revealed that Aneet is very excited.

Aneet Padda and Ayushmann Khurrana

The announcement of Shakti Shalini read: “The protector. The destroyer. The mother of all. Aneet Padda in Shakti Shalini. Shakti unleashed Dec 24, 2026.” After the news was official, Ayushmann Khurrana gave a shout-out to Aneet Padda on social media. In a viral video, the Thamma actor has now opened up about crossing paths with Aneet soon. Ayushmann shared, “I’m so excited that Aneet is part of this universe. Both of us are from small cities from Punjab. I gave her a shout out on Instagram. She’s very excited! And she was the first one to watch my (Thamma) trailer at Dinoo’s office. She texted me from there and she was like ‘I’m so excited for Thamma’ and stuff like that. And, very sweet of her. And I look forward to crossing paths with her in this universe.”

In his sweet Instagram post for Aneet, Ayushmann had written: “Welcome to the MHCU, @aneetpadda_ 🫶 Punjabi aa gaye oye!! From one dreamer to another – keep chasing what you want. Nothing is impossible.. so proud to see someone from Punjab making us all proud.. Can’t wait to see you shine in Shakti Shalini! Onwards and upwards Aneet ✨.” Replying to this post, Aneet had shared, “Khurrana ji da munda is making waves like always 🩷 thank you so much, it’s a little extra special coming from someone I look up to so much. So so grateful for the warm welcome @ayushmannk.”

Shakti Shalini is set to release in 2026.

Thamma box office collection day 6: Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna’s horror comedy started on a strong note on Diwali.

Thamma box office update

According to trade tracking site Sacnilk, Thamma is performing well at the box office. On day six, which marked the first Sunday after its release, the film earned ₹13 crore, bringing its total collection to ₹91.70 crore.

The film, part of the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe, had started on a strong note on Diwali before slightly dipping over the weekdays. But it seems to be making a healthy recovery over the weekend now. In terms of occupancy, the film had an overall 23.19 per cent occupancy in Hindi on Sunday.

The supernatural-themed film saw a significant boost at the box office on its fifth day, earning ₹13.1 crore. This marked a 31 percent jump compared to the previous day, when the film had raked in ₹10 crore. The surge in collections suggests growing audience interest, indicating that the film is gaining momentum as it continues its theatrical run.

On Saturday, Thamma surpassed the lifetime box office collection of Varun Dhawan’s Maddock horror-comedy Bhediya, which had grossed ₹68.99 crore. Prior to this, the film had already overtaken the domestic earnings of Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, starring Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor, which had earned ₹60.35 crore.

The film is working well overseas as well. Thamma has crossed the ₹100 crore mark in terms of worldwide earnings in five days.

Thamma worldwide box office collection day 4: Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna’s film is inching close to the ₹100 crore mark.

Thamma worldwide box office collection day 4: Even as Thamma is facing some slowdown at the box office over the weekdays, the Maddock Films horror comedy continues to gallop towards the ₹100-crore mark worldwide. After an impressive start at the domestic box office, the film picked up pace overseas too on Thursday and Friday, solidifying its chances of a good lifetime haul.

Thamma worldwide box office collection day 4: Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna star in this horror comedy.

Thamma worldwide box office update

Thamma, a vampire story, earned ₹65.15 crore net ( ₹78.20 crore gross) in India over the first four days of its release. This included a more-than-impressive ₹24 crore start on Diwali, followed by a continuous decline over the next three weekdays. To its credit, the film managed to avoid too large a drop in collections on any of those days, limiting the dips to 25% or under. But even then, its daily collection was down to ₹9.55 crore net by Friday.

However, overseas, the film reversed the trend. In the first two days of release, Thamma barely managed to scratch the surface of overseas collections as it did not get the benefit of a festive release outside India (Diwali is not a holiday in most major international markets). But as the weekend arrived, Thamma picked up pace. It has now earned almost $1.6 million in the overseas territories in four days, and is promising to go past the $3 million mark in the first week itself.

This takes Thamma’s worldwide collection after four days to an impressive ₹93 crore. On Friday, it surpassed the lifetime collection of Maddock’s recent romantic comedy Bhool Chuk Maaf, which ended its run at ₹89 crore worldwide. The film is now set to cross the ₹100 crore mark on Saturday.

All about Thamma

Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, Thamma is the story of a journalist (Ayushmann Khurrana) who gets caught up in the power struggle of vampires (Rashmika Mandanna and Nawazuddin Siddiqui). The film is part of the larger Maddock Horror Comedy Universe, and is hence connected to the Stree films, Bhediya, and Munjya. It has been praised for its humour, visual effects, and starry cameos.

Earlier today, Ayushmann also shared an emotional post expressing gratitude for Thamma’s success. Sharing a series of pictures and videos with his family and being mobbed by fans in theatres, Ayushmann wrote, “This family has seen a lot in the last few years. The success of Thamma is like a beautiful divine light. It is a result of collective prayers of the young and old present here. आयुष्मान भव:… that’s what my father used to say whenever I touched his feet. When Paresh ji said आयुष्मान भव: in the film, it felt like my father, my guardian angel, had blessed me.” He further thanked the audience for blessing Thamma with love and revealed that he is overwhelmed by its success.

Movie Review Thamma | Soulless | Glamsham.com

by jummy84 October 23, 2025
written by jummy84

Maddock Films extends its Horror-Comedy Universe (MHCU) with Thamma, pitched as a hor-rom-com (horror romantic comedy) mixing Indian folklore, mythology, and modern satire. Directed by Munjya’s Aditya Sarpotdar, it promises a fresh supernatural romance but collapses under overblown world-building and forced humour.

The film opens in 323 BC, where Sikandar (Alexander the Great) in Bharat, alarming the Betaals. The scene exists only to announce their ancient roots — visually grand, narratively pointless.

In the present, Alok Goyal (Ayushmann Khurrana), a Delhi journalist influencer, stumbles into the hidden world of Betaals. After a brutal encounter, he’s saved by Tadka / Tarika (Rashmika Mandanna), herself a Betaal. As she protects him from her own kind, love brews between them — the film’s only pulse amid chaos.

The story alternates between Delhi and the Betaals’ secret settlement, ruled by their chained leader Thamma / Yakshasan (Nawazuddin Siddiqui), imprisoned for defying their laws. He can only be freed when another Betaal breaks the same rule. Alok’s accidental entry triggers Thamma’s release and a war between humans and Betaals.

In a clumsy attempt to tie into the larger Maddock universe, Bhediya (Varun Dhawan) appears, seeking Alok’s blood to boost his powers. By the end, Alok learns that drinking Bhediya’s blood could make him stronger — a pointless, mechanical crossover that serves the franchise more than the story.

With its soulless structure and franchise-driven plotting, Thamma feels less like a film and more like a marketing extension linking Stree, Bhediya, Munjya, and now Thamma.

Ayushmann Khurrana anchors the film with easy charm, but shallow writing leaves him adrift. His evolution from influencer to reluctant hero feels rushed. Rashmika Mandanna gives Tadka intensity, but uneven dubbing and accent make her dialogue land awkwardly. Their chemistry works only in quiet pauses.

Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s Thamma is disappointingly flat — mythic in setup, lifeless in delivery. Paresh Rawal is underused, Sathyaraj’s cameo as a priest border on parody, and Varun Dhawan’s brief appearance feels contractual.

Tonally, Thamma never settles — not scary enough for horror, not witty enough for comedy, not tender enough for romance. The humour strains, the scares fizzle, and the romance suffocates beneath CGI and uneven pacing. The 1947 flashback looks cliché with no depth. The music by Sachin–Jigar, including the catchy “Tum Mere Na Huye”, feels misplaced, while the background score overwhelms.

Instead of expanding the MHCU organically, Thamma feels engineered. Cameos, callbacks, and name-drops replace heart and coherence. The wit and invention of Stree and Bhediya are missing — replaced by mechanical universe-building.

The film may be positioned as a horror romantic comedy, but the love is bland, and the blood runs thin.

Bottom line: Thamma wants to deepen the Maddock universe with myth and romance but ends up a patchwork of half-baked ideas. Flashy, noisy, and forgettable — a film that bites off more than it can chew.

Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika Mandanna, and Nawazuddin Siddiqui-led horror comedy Thamma released in theatres yesterday and has impressed the audience. Released alongside Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat on the Laxmi Pooja holiday, the film has opened with a bang, collecting over double the earnings of the Harshvardhan Rane starrer. Scroll below for to know exactly how much the film earned at the box office and if it’s opening day collection is the highest in the MHCU.

Thammaka Box Office

As per the latest box office report and the figures shared by the makers, Thamma earned Rs 25.11 crore nett at the domestic box office on Day 1. The film’s gross opening day collection – despite tough competition from films like Kantara Chapter 1, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari and Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat, amounted to Rs 29.62 crores.

While Thamma hasn’t gotten the biggest opening in the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe, it isn’t the universe’s lowest opener either. The MHCU’s first film Stree earned Rs 6.82 crore, Bhediya collected Rs 7.48 crore, Stree 2 amassed Rs 55.400 crore and Munjya collected Rs 4.21 crore on their opening days.
