Black Bear to Release Sydney Sweeney Boxing Drama ‘Christy’

by jummy84 September 4, 2025

“Christy,” a sports drama that features a transformative performance from “Euphoria” star Sydney Sweeney as a female boxer, will be released by Black Bear in theaters in the thick of awards season.

Heading into the Toronto Film Festival where it will premiere, “Christy” was one of the hottest acquisition targets, but Black Bear, which financed the picture, has decided to take it off the board and make it the inaugural release of its fledgling distribution label. The film is a biopic of Christy Martin, a WBC female super welterweight champ. It’s directed by Sundance Grand Jury Prize winner David Michôd (“Animal Kingdom”) and co-stars Ben Foster, Merritt Wever, and Katy O’Brian.  “Christy” will be released in theaters nationwide on Nov. 7 and Black Bear plans to mount an Oscar campaign for the picture and for Sweeney’s performance, which is said to be chameleonic.

“We’re thrilled about the upcoming release of ‘Christy,’ a moving portrait of resilience and defiance from visionary filmmaker David Michôd,” said Black Bear President of U.S. Distribution Benjamin Kramer. “Led by Sydney Sweeney’s masterful transformation into the iconic Christy, capturing a young woman’s fierce determination to define her own destiny, the film is elevated by Michôd’s elegant direction and enriched by an electric supporting turn from Ben Foster. Both tender and unflinching, ‘Christy’ is a celebration of persistence, humor, and humanity in the face of unexpected turns. We cannot wait to share it with audiences across the country.”

Michôd co-wrote the screenplay with Mirrah Foulkes, from a story by Katherine Fugate. The film follows Martin as “she charges into the world of boxing under the guidance of her trainer and manager-turned-husband, Jim (Foster). But while Christy flaunts a fiery persona in the ring, her toughest battles unfold outside it, as she confronts family, identity, and a relationship that just might become life-or-death.” The film is Black Bear’s second collaboration with Sweeney, who previously starred in the studio’s horror film “Immaculate.”

“Christy” was produced by Black Bear, Anonymous Content, Votiv, Fifty-Fifty Films, and Yoki. Producers are Kerry Kohansky-Roberts, Black Bear’s Teddy Schwarzman, Votiv’s Brent Stiefel and Justin Lothrop, Michôd, and Sweeney.

UTA Independent Film Group and AC Independent co-represented U.S. rights and negotiated the deal with Black Bear on behalf of the filmmaking team. Black Bear is handling international rights and will theatrically release the film in the U.K. and Ireland.

Black Bear launched its distribution arm in July bringing over Kramer from CAA to run it and hiring David Spitz, a long-term Lionsgate distribution executive. The company has previously been an active producer and financier, backing such films as “Sing Sing” and “I Care a Lot.”

The Sydney Sweeney and Scooter Braun Relationship Rumors, Explained

by jummy84 September 4, 2025
written by jummy84

Who had Sydney Sweeney and Scooter Braun relationship rumors on their 2025 Bingo card? Because you may have just won. Let’s dig into these rumors, shall we?

On September 2, People reported that Sweeney, recently in hot water over her American Eagle jeans ad, and Braun, the music mogul perhaps best known for his dispute with Taylor Swift, are “casually hooking up.” An unnamed source told the outlet, “Everything is casual. She is living her life and working hard.” According to E! News, Sweeney and Braun were seen together at Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez’s wedding back in June, and again at Harry’s Bar with other celebs like Karlie Kloss. One source told TMZ that Sweeney and Braun actually met at the Bezos and Sanchez wedding, but this has not been verified elsewhere. Another source told Us Weekly, “[Sweeney is] not exclusively dating anyone right now but is having fun with Scooter.” The only thing everyone seems to agree on is that this is not a serious relationship.

Star first reported on the rumors on August 29, after a TikTok video showing Sweeney and Braun together in Italy for the wedding surfaced online. Before this, however, there had been no whisper of a relationship between Sydney Sweeney and Scooter Braun.

In May, Sweeney confirmed her split from fiancé Jonathan Davino, which was first reported in March. Sweeney told the Times, “I’m learning a lot about myself, spending more time with my friends. And I’m loving it.” Even before the breakup, Sweeney was no stranger to relationship rumors. Thanks in large part to their on-and-off-screen chemistry, she was suspected of having some kind of relationship with her Anyone But You costar Glen Powell, which they both routinely denied.

There has been no denial of the Braun relationship rumors, which means something. But it could mean less than you think.

Sydney Sweeney ‘Great Jeans’ Ads Lifted Sales

by jummy84 September 3, 2025
written by jummy84

Clothing retailer American Eagle is thrilled with the results of its “Sydney Sweeney has great jeans” marketing campaign — which became part of the national political conversation — and says it’s planning to do more with the actor later this year.

The company said Sweeney’s jean collaboration sold out within a week with some items selling out within a day. Sweeney “is a winner, and in just six weeks, the campaign has generated unprecedented new customer acquisition,” CMO Craig Brommers told analysts on the earnings call.

In after-hours trading Wednesday, American Eagle stock was up nearly 25%.

However, while the company beat Wall Street expectations for the second quarter ended Aug. 2, 2025, American Eagle’s total net revenue of $1.28 billion for the period was down 1% compared with last year and total comparable sales also decreased 1%. Operating profit was $103 million, an increase of 2% versus the year-earlier period, while diluted earnings per share came in at 45 cents, up 15%.

In another celeb tie-up, American Eagle teamed with Travis Kelce — announcing a new design collaboration with the Kansas City Chief star’s sports and lifestyle brand Tru Kolors, one day after his engagement to Taylor Swift became public.

American Eagle CEO Jay Schottenstein said in prepared remarks with the earnings release, “The fall season is off to a positive start. Fueled by stronger product offerings and the success of recent marketing campaigns with Sydney Sweeney and Travis Kelce, we have seen an uptick in customer awareness, engagement and comparable sales. We look forward to building on our progress and the continued strength of our iconic brands to drive higher profitability, long-term growth and shareholder value.”

According to American Eagle, the Sweeney and Kelce campaigns combined have generated 40 billion impressions to date.

American Eagle’s Sweeney ad campaign was meant to be a lighthearted play on words. In one of the ads, Sweeney says, “Genes are passed down from parents to offspring,” then turns to the camera and says, “My jeans are blue.” In another spot, she appears before a billboard that says, “Sydney Sweeney has great genes”; then, the billboard is shown with “genes” crossed out and replaced with “jeans.”

Some online commenters perceived a eugenicist subtext in the genes/jeans play on words — an alleged racist dog-whistle that glorifies her white heritage as a beauty ideal. Republicans pounced on the backlash as an opportunity to stir the pot.

President Donald Trump, in an Aug. 4 post on his Truth Social platform, wrote, “Sydney Sweeney, a registered Republican, has the HOTTEST ad out there. It’s for American Eagle, and the jeans are ‘flying of the shelves.’ Go get ‘em Sydney.” Trump added: “Being WOKE is for losers, being Republican is what you want to be.”

Earlier, Trump’s White House communications manager Steven Cheung called the controversy a prime example of “cancel culture run amok.” Meanwhile, Vice President JD Vance mocked liberals for creating a hysteria around the American Eagle campaign, saying on an episode of the “Ruthless” podcast: “My political advice to the Democrats is continue to tell everybody who thinks Sydney Sweeney is attractive is a Nazi. That appears to be their actual strategy.” However, no prominent Democratic officials have taken a stance on the Sweeney ads.

Sydney Chandler on Episode 4’s Shocking Xenomorph Conversation Scene

by jummy84 August 27, 2025
written by jummy84

[Warning: The following post contains MAJOR spoilers for Alien: Earth Episode 4, “Observation.”]

The Alien universe has changed forever thanks to what just happened in Tuesday’s (August 26) episode of Alien: Earth. In it, synth Wendy (Sydney Chandler) communicated with a baby xenomorph in its own extraterrestrial language. She even patted the delighted little creature on the head… without losing her hand.

The development was not in the original script, and the actress revealed her reaction to it to TV Insider. “It shocked me at first. I was like, ‘Did I read this right, or have I gone insane?’” Chandler remembered of the first time she read the scene. “But it was interesting after exploring it and playing it and seeing where that takes Wendy. It was nice for her to have something fully her own that no one else is connected to. It gives her autonomy and a connection to something else that may or may not feel alien or alone. One of a kind.”

A newborn extraterrestrial on a strange planet might just sense that it is in the company of an equally singular creature in Wendy. Her extraordinary abilities, even when compared to her fellow smart-but-childlike fellow synths known as the Lost Boys, have made her the favorite of Boy Cavalier (Samuel Blenkin), the tech bro inventor who made her existence possible. Chandler says, “She is like the Lost Boys, but not fully them. She is a sister, but not fully a sister.”

Patrick Brown / FX

When speaking the alien language, Chandler didn’t lip synch to pre-recorded audio but made the sounds herself (the final audio was finessed in post-production). “I don’t know how you guys didn’t laugh at me the entire time,” she says to Alex Lawther, who plays Wendy’s brother Hermit, in our interview above.

There had been hints Wendy was connected to the extraterrestrials — she experienced a painful buzzing in her head when they suffered — but the ability to communicate could be the first step in a peaceful existence between them and humans. But don’t hand Wendy the Nobel Peace Prize just yet. Chandler reminds us, “[The xenomorph] is a killing machine, but Wendy in her own way is also a weapon.”

Check out the full video interview above to see more of what they had to say about this episode and to see both Chandler and Lawther try out a few alien phrases.

Evan Ser's Debut Single is a Cinematic Ode to Sydney Sweeney

Evan Ser’s Debut Single is a Cinematic Ode to Sydney Sweeney

by jummy84 August 26, 2025
written by jummy84

Get ready for a track that’s as captivating as the silver screen itself. Rising music creator Evan Ser is making his official debut with the highly anticipated single, “My Muse I Can’t Defend,” set to drop on September 4th. This isn’t just another song, it’s a deeply personal and beautifully crafted piece of art, inspired by one of Hollywood’s most talked-about actresses, Sydney Sweeney.

What makes this song so unique is its origin story. Evan Ser, a new voice on the scene, wrote the track from a poignant and heartfelt perspective: that of a first-time film director. The lyrics tell the tale of a professional admiration that blossoms into a silent, unspoken affection for his lead actress. It’s a narrative of unexpressed feelings, a testament to the quiet boundaries we maintain in professional spaces, even when an undeniable connection exists. It’s the kind of story that feels ripped from a screenplay, and now, it has its own powerful soundtrack.

To bring this vision to life, Ser collaborated with the talented Racoon3Eyes, whose rich vocals add a layer of raw emotion and authenticity to the song. The fusion of Ser’s poetic lyricism and Racoon3Eyes’ soulful delivery creates an unforgettable listening experience that will resonate with anyone who has ever had a secret crush.

For Ser, this project is more than just a debut, it’s a dream. He hopes the song will travel across the world, connecting with listeners who understand the complexities of unspoken emotions. His ultimate goal? For the song to one day reach the ears of its inspiration, Sydney Sweeney, and maybe, just maybe, be turned into a full-blown cinematic music video with her as the star. It’s a bold vision, but given Sydney Sweeney’s track record of diverse collaborations, from major campaigns with American Eagle and Kérastase to her recent partnerships with Dr. Squatch, it’s clear she’s a star who appreciates creative and unexpected projects.

Don’t miss out on this poetic and heartfelt debut. Be one of the first to hear the story unfold by pre-saving “My Muse I Can’t Defend” on Spotify right now. The countdown is on until the official release on September 4th.

Halsey defends Sydney Sweeney amid ad controversy

23 August 2025

Halsey has voiced her support for Sydney Sweeney following her American Eagle ad campaign.

Sydney Sweeney starred in the American Eagle campaign

The 30-year-old singer has taken to social media to defend Americana, the Tony Tost-directed crime thriller, and Sydney, her co-star in the film.

Halsey wrote on her Instagram Story: “If you love cinema, than you should know that cinema comes first. This is cinema.”

Halsey also seemingly addressed Sydney’s controversial ad campaign, which sparked a debate over race and beauty standards in America.

Critics of the campaign accused American Eagle of promoting eugenics by using a play on the words “jeans” and “genes”.

Halsey said: “I do agree that our words are important in this climate. I don’t, however, think that it’s fair for the news cycle to predatorily rip a hardworking director and his hardworking crew for this film that is completely separate-from and unrelated-to a (pretty dumb) advertising take.”

Although Halsey didn’t mention Sydney by name, she hinted that she was referring to the Hollywood star.

She added: “If it’s not clear who the actual people I’m standing up for are. I’m sorry look closer.”

Sydney became the subject of fierce online debate after the American Eagle advert premiered.

In the campaign video, the actress – who has blond hair and blue eyes – says: “Genes that are passed from parent to offspring often determine traits such as hair colour, personality and even eye colour.”

Sydney concluded the segment by looking into the camera and saying: “My jeans are blue.”

American Eagle later issued a statement defending its campaign.

The company read: “We’ll continue to celebrate how everyone wears their AE jeans with confidence, their way. Great jeans look good on everyone.”

Meanwhile, Americana has proven to be a box office flop since its release, with director Tony Tost observing that it has been “gobbled up by the zeitgeist”.

Tony recently wrote on X: “One of the great things about movies is that they outlive the zeitgeist into which they were released.

“As someone whose first film sorta got gobbled up by the zeitgeist, I’ll be curious to see how it’ll stand up after this moment is over. Hopefully fairly well!”
