NBC to Air Extended Taylor Swift ‘Tonight Show’ Episode

by jummy84 October 9, 2025
written by jummy84

The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon is set to launch a special episode this Friday — “Taylor Swift (Extended Cut)” — featuring more moments from Swift’s late night interview.

The pop star stopped by Monday’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Swift, who was all blinged out in a sparkly silver dress, covered a variety of topics, including her latest album The Life of Showgirl, released on Oct. 3. Friday’s special episode will feature additional, not-yet-released moments from Fallon’s interview with Swift.

Swift chatted about her recent engagement to Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce. Fallon joked he was being “blinded” by Swift’s ring, which she showed off to the host and camera. She joked that going on Kelce’s podcast, New Heights, was a “distraction” to not notice that the backyard was being decorated for the big proposal.

Later, in a game about the many rumors that swirl around the pop star, she and Fallon put some things to bed. Swift clarified through the game that she didn’t tell pal Selena Gomez that she “beat” Swift to the altar during a speech at Gomez’s recent wedding. “I did not make it about me,” she told Fallon.

She also addressed the speculation that she turned down the 2025 Super Bowl Halftime show because of a dispute over owning the footage. “No,” she told Fallon when he asked her if that’s why she didn’t want to take on the job, adding that Jay-Z and his team have always been good to her.

Monday’s show marked Swift’s seventh appearance on the show over the years. While the appearance was strictly billed as an interview — rock band The Format was the episode’s musical guest — the singer and Fallon played tracks off of Showgirl and broke them down. The crowd sang along to “Opalite,” “Wood” and “The Fate of Ophelia.” Swift cheekily told the crowd that “Wood,” her horniest track to date, started off innocent.

Swift’s 12th album, produced and written by the singer herself along with hitmakers Max Martin and Shellback, was thought to be a return to some of her most standard pop albums, like 1989, but it instead managed to be the love child of Evermore and Midnights. The album sold 2.7 million copies on release day (Oct. 3), making that day alone her largest week ever, according to Luminate via Billboard.

In addition to the album, Swift released a cinematic companion over the weekend, which included a chance to see the music video for the album’s lead single, The Fate of Ophelia, before its online release Sunday. Swift directed the video, which was filmed by frequent collaborator and Oscar-nominated cinematographer Rodrigo Prieto, and features choreography from famed choreographer Mandy Moore, who worked on the singer’s Eras tour.

The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon: Taylor Swift (Extended Cut) is set to air on NBC this Friday, Oct. 10 at 11:35 p.m. local time and streams the next day on Peacock.

In the Taylor Swift Economy, Fans Are the Product

Greed knows no bounds, and neither does Taylor Swift. Don’t hate me, Swifties! I know your eyes are finally opening, too. Please, allow me to give 10s where they’re due: Your fave is likely one of the biggest pop stars the world will ever see. But her business acumen might end up being more historical than her actual art.

After the release of her latest album, The Life of a Showgirl, Swift has broken records with her biggest sales week ever: 2.7 million sales in the first 24 hours alone. Are you reading what I’m writing? This feat also marks the second-largest sales week for any album since 1991, when modern chart methodology began. Only Adele’s 25 has surpassed that number, selling 3.378 million copies in its first week in 2015. And again, Swift’s numbers are based on one single day of sales.

To call Taylor Swift an industry titan would be an understatement. She is the behemoth who stands above all. She makes history with her tours, her theater experiences, her merchandise, and chiefly, her ability to convince the same fans to buy the same album over and over again. A proclaimed self-made billionaire, Swift has made it to the top of her mountain of money by relating deeply to her fans, then convincing them to crack those pretty little wallets open. With Showgirl, Swift has done this multiple times over.

Related Video

“File this under ‘save your best for the finale,’” Swift wrote on an Instagram post on October 4th, promoting multiple CD variants of her latest album that separately feature acoustic tracks not found on the standard version of Showgirl. “I think my favorite moments from the tour were the acoustic surprises. So I went back into the studio with Max and Shellback to record acoustic/unplugged versions of a few of the Showgirl songs with brand new vocals and production! Cannot WAIT for you to hear.”

On October 6th, Swift would post something similar while hawking an additional deluxe version of the album, this time available only on iTunes for 24 hours! In addition to iterations found online, that makes for at least 11 different CD variants, and nine different vinyl editions released of the album. One exhaustively curated spreadsheet puts the total count at 28. These captions read like a gift to fans, but let’s call them what they actually are: sales pitches. You cannot WAIT for people to spend that bread, girl!

Taylor Swift has arguably the most loyal contemporary fanbase, the Swifties, which is the closest thing to a rival of Michael Jackson’s collective of stans, in terms of scale and fervor. Her appeal has always been emotional transparency. For years upon years, Swift has been able to depend on her ability to turn heartbreak into parasocial intimacy into empire. But it seems even Swifties get tired, as evinced by the comments on the official Taylor Nation Instagram fan page.

“This is so upsetting,” one stan wrote on a post pushing the limited CD variants. “I love Taylor, I do. But for the love of God why do you need so many variants? Why does one hard working fan have to buy seven different versions of an album instead of just having all of the songs be on one complete album? You have millions of dollars. Give us broke fans a break.”

A personalized, world-spanning battalion of money spenders is hard not to mobilize. Taylor Swift is aiming to break every record imaginable, and it starts with getting her product into the hands of the masses. In the Swift economy, fans are more than mere listeners — they’re shareholders, and Taylor rewards them accordingly. Not with the authentic intimacy that Swifties are constantly seeking, but with artificial access. You can own a piece of her empire, as long as you’re willing to pay for it.

Taylor Swift Brilliantly Captures the Zeitgeist on New LP » PopMatters

by jummy84 October 7, 2025
written by jummy84

In a 2014 Rolling Stone cover story, Taylor Swift described passing a man on the street who, inexplicably, walked around with a cat on his head. She wanted to take a picture, but hesitated: “What if he just wants to walk around with a cat on his head, and not have his picture taken all day?” The singer-songwriter offered sympathy because she is a massive celebrity, photographed every time she leaves home.

Aside from romantic love, Swift‘s own fame has been the main subject of her work. In a 2015 interview with Glamour, the singer assessed her trajectory: “I was not shot out of a cannon. It was about five years before I became recognizable to everyone.” The irony of Swift’s life is that when she says “everyone”, it could literally mean every human.

This universal existence is the premise for Swift’s 12th studio album, the Max Martin-produced The Life of a Showgirl. Swift first worked with Martin on 2012’s Red, venturing into pop, and the journey to the stratosphere took off from there. Swift collaborated with Martin on 1989 and Reputation, and Jack Antonoff added indie flair to Lover and Midnights. For a change, Aaron Dressner of the National created the acoustic soundscape of folklore and evermore.

In terms of theme, The Life of a Showgirl is a sister to 2024’s The Tortured Poets Department. Both albums portray the distorted human experience of famous people, their emotions turned into products of public consumption. However, when fame itself becomes a product, can any part of a celebrity’s life appear human?

In the Tortured Poets track “Who’s Afraid of Little Old Me?” Swift compares herself to a circus animal: “I am what I am ’cause you trained me.” The symbolism of The Life of a Showgirl is thinly veiled by comparison, but that is not to the album’s discredit. Swift is a confessional writer. In “Elizabeth Taylor”, Swift likens the reaction she would have to her current love affair ending to the infamous meltdown of a 1950s icon. “I’d cry my eyes violet,” she says, launching into a haunting hook.

Elsewhere on Showgirl, Taylor Swift settles scores. “CANCELLED!” is an eerie and arresting takedown of the celebrity industrial complex. “Good thing I like my friends canceled,” Swift says over a bassline that sounds like a musical death march in the best way possible. “Welcome to my underworld,” she adds, implying that, in an alternate universe, her network of famous friends could have been a convincing band of villains.

The revenge-seeking continues. In “Actually Romantic”, Swift takes aim at Charli XCX in the same way “Bad Blood” addressed a feud with Katy Perry. “Like a chihuahua barking at me from a tiny purse / That’s how much it hurts,” Swift says. Allegedly, Charli XCX wrote “Don’t wanna see her backstage at my boyfriend’s show,” on “Sympathy Is a Knife”, about Swift. Charli XCX is married to the drummer of The 1975, and Swift dated the band’s frontman, Matty Healy.

The Life of a Showgirl reveals that Swift is now in a healthy relationship. In “Honey”, the singer mentions a lover who called her in the middle of the night to ask what she was wearing, but did not remember the conversation the next day. (This sounds like Healy.) On the other hand, Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce offers a benign new chapter. “Got me dreaming ’bout a driveway with a basketball hoop,” Swift says on “Wi$h Li$t”. You can’t help but be happy for her.

In “Father Figure”, which interpolates George Michael‘s song of the same name, Swift recalls a protege who betrayed her. The song is the album’s best example of Swift’s strengths. A key change in the final chorus provides a melodic lift that matches the increased stakes of a back-stabbing. “Who’s portrait’s on the mantel? Who covered up your scandals?” she asks.

Soothing harmonies and dreamy synths throughout the song contrast its narrative, mixed emotions, in a concise vessel. Swift’s revenge is necessary, but she is sad to let go of an apprentice. “Father Figure” sounds like what Miranda Priestly, the fashion editor of The Devil Wears Prada, would have written about the assistant who resigned after a great accomplishment.

Like Priestly, Swift understands that moral ambiguity is necessary to uphold a well-meaning empire. “I’m married to the hustle,” she says on the title track, which closes the album and features Sabrina Carpenter. The presence of Swift’s pop star protege embodies the song’s narrative, where an aspiring starlet achieves her destiny and passes the torch.

The song’s outro is a recorded clip of Swift closing an Eras Tour show. While some of Showgirl’s tracks may lack the eccentricity of Midnights, this recording reminds listeners they played a part in the album’s origin. “I never really let myself say, ‘I’ve made it,” but the Eras Tour…this is different,” Swift said on Kelce’s New Heights podcast.

Elsewhere, “Eldest Daughter” is a searing look back at Swift’s coming-of-age. “Every eldest daughter was the first lamb to the slaughter,” she says. This assessment describes Swift’s place in the music industry as a confessional songwriter who emerged in the 2000s diva era, yet received the same, if not more, tabloid scrutiny.

The Life of a Showgirl enshrines Swift’s proof of concept as a celebrity: modern fame is an act of honesty and excess, a contemporary witch trial, and a glamorous night out. Charli XCX, Swift’s newest rival, brought depth to the dancefloor ruminations of brat: “I’m famous but not quite / One foot in a normal life,” she said on “I might say something stupid.”

On Showgirl’s cover, Swift is submerged, her face poking above the surface of the water. The image references “The Fate of Ophelia”, where Swift thanks a lover for saving her from Shakespearean tragedy. Martin’s production bobs and weaves around Swift’s subtle hesitations and soulful spillovers: “If you’d never come for me / I might’ve lingered in purgatory.”

When Swift is concise, it makes a bold statement. Although now heralded as an opus, upon its release, critics found Red scattershot. A succinct collection of uniform pop bangers, 1989, followed. Similarly, Showgirl is 12 tracks compared to Tortured Poets’ 31. However, in this case, brevity does not equal wit. “Did you, girlboss too close to the sun?” Swift asks on “CANCELLED!” A grab bag of internet slang is an unfortunate presence on the album.

Overall, Swift’s writing holds up. The bridge of “Eldest Daughter” is a cinematic reverie of youthful indiscretions and natural imagery. “We lie back, a beautiful time lapse / Fairytale kisses and lilacs,” Swift says, as lush harmonies and acoustic guitars create a wistful medley.

“I’m an archer. We stand back, assess, process how we feel, raise a bow, pull back, and fire,” she said in a 2019 Rolling Stone interview, referring to her astrological sign, Sagittarius. The Life of a Showgirl is not a misfire, but 1989 was a bullseye. Both albums share a similar mission: named for the singer’s birth year, 1989 marked a renewal and the start of an imperial phase. “I’m immortal, baby dolls, I couldn’t [die] if I tried,” Swift says on Showgirl’s title track.

Swift wrote The Tortured Poets Department in a highly pressurized environment: the beginning of the biggest concert tour of all time, the breakdown of her six-year relationship with Joe Alwyn, and her chaotic rebound with Matty Healy. This public echo chamber resembles a scene in the music video for “Fortnight”, where Swift plays a captive in a laboratory, forced to take experimental drugs. “Forget him,” one pill bottle reads.

Singer-songwriters want to tell their stories, but Swift is also a celebrity. Consequently, the public has an interest in providing “advice” based on what her life appears to be. Additionally, after a prolific run of albums, listeners chime in on what type of music Swift should release. The eagerness to form opinions on the singer’s creative decisions proves she has done her job. The ability to discuss the work is part of the product being sold.

Taylor Swift can capture the zeitgeist because she understands the concept of one: a battle between tension and freedom, and the knowledge that conflict is necessary to sustain the things we want. The Tortured Poets Department proves Swift will navigate pain when it is part of a story. The Life of a Showgirl releases that angst. “They stood by me before my exoneration,” Swift said on “CANCELLED!” Even non-existence as a public figure is a discourse Swift engaged with and survived. Now that’s showmanship.

This Is Why Taylor Swift Isn’t Playing The Super Bowl

by jummy84 October 7, 2025
written by jummy84

It’s official: Bad Bunny will headline the Super Bowl LX halftime show. Not Taylor Swift.

Bad Bunny is certainly no one’s second choice or backup, but it did look for a while as though the NFL and Apple Music/Roc Nation, the companies that produce the event, were going after Swift, and not just because of the easter eggs; NFL CEO Roger Goodell himself called Swift a “maybe,” saying that securing the performer was in Jay-Z’s hands.

So…what happened? Here’s what we know:

What Swift herself says

Basically, she’s not gonna do the Super Bowl while her man is playing in the NFL, it’s just too stressful. “Here’s the thing,” Swift told Jimmy Fallon during a visit to The Tonight Show on October 6, where she spent a segment debunking stories about herself. “Jay-Z has always been very good to me. Our teams are very close. They sometimes will call and say ‘how does she feel about…’ and that’s not an official offer or a conference room conversation. We’re always able to tell him the truth, which is that I am in love with a guy who does that sport on that actual field.”

The Life of a Showgirl singer gave a speech during the pop star’s recent wedding to Benny Blanco

Selena Gomez celebrated Taylor Swift‘s new album by posting a video and a series of photos of the pair at Gomez’s recent wedding to Benny Blanco.

Gomez shared the behind-the-scene images on Instagram, beginning with a short video of the BFFs as Gomez got ready for the ceremony. “Are you even serious?” Swift says as she captures Gomez with her phone. The other slides include the pair before the wedding and during the party after. Gomez also included a screenshot of “The Fate of Ophelia,” off Swift’s latest LP, The Life of a Showgirl.

Swift was among those who gave a speech at the wedding. She spoke about the moment during her appearance on The Tonight Show last night, revealing to host Jimmy Fallon that she did not bring up her own engagement during the event.

“I did make a speech, but I actually made a point not to mention anything about my engagement,” she said. “I did do some light teasing about the way we used to dress in 2008, the year that we met. Because we met when we were teenagers in 2008. It was quite a year. Let me tell you. It was the year of deep, deep V-necks.”

Taylor Swift hints Ed Sheeran may perform at her wedding

by jummy84 October 6, 2025
written by jummy84

Taylor Swift has hinted that her good friend and fellow pop star Ed Sheeran may perform at her wedding.

It comes after Swift released her 12th studio album, ‘The Life Of A Showgirl’ on Friday (October 3), following up from last year’s ‘The Tortured Poets Department’. Back in August, Swift announced her engagement to Travis Kelce.

Speaking on UK’s Hits Radio Breakfast Show, Swift joked that there was nothing more than she and Sheeran love more than to be asked to sing at a big event.

“We spoke to Ed Sheeran a few weeks back, and he told us he is constantly asked to perform at people’s weddings,” Swift added. Host Fleur East then asked Swift if Sheeran could sing at her wedding. “Oh, it would be hard to keep him from it, I think,” Swift replied.

Last year, Swift brought out Sheeran as a special guest during the first of her five-night ‘Eras’ tour run at Wembley Stadium. The pair’s friendship goes back over a decade to when Sheeran opened for Swift on her ‘Red’ tour. The album also featured a collaboration between the two called ‘Everything Has Changed’.
The pair continued to collaborate after 2013, on Swift’s ‘End Game’ and the re-record of ‘Everything Has Changed’ for her ‘Red (Taylor’s Version)’ album. The pair also collaborated on the remix for Sheeran’s ‘The Joker And The Queen’. Sheeran also revealed previously that he regularly confides in Swift and that they discuss each other’s work together.
Elsewhere in the interview with UK Hits Radio, Swift opened up more about her friendship with Sheeran and that the two had a good catch up recently while attending Selena Gomez’s wedding to Benny Blanco in California.

“I saw him last weekend, actually, at a wedding of one of our best friends. We were just talking about how much we love when he came out onstage with me at Wembley during the Eras Tour,” she recalled, referring to Sheeran’s appearance at her London concert in 2024.

Swift also echoed Sheeran saying that they often discuss their music, especially when “rehearsing or writing or working together”. She added: “There’s really like a sort of strange mind-meld thing that happens between us two, and we’ve always had it,” she explained, concluding, “We always will.”

In other news, Swift has revealed elsewhere that she was worried her songwriting would “dry up” if she were “ever truly happy in a relationship.”

Speaking to Greg James on BBC Radio 1, Swift – who has famously used her relationships as inspiration for her songs throughout her career – said she feared her abilities as a songwriter might dry up if she felt “happy and free.”

She explained: “I used to have this dark fear that if I ever were truly happy and free, being myself and nurtured by a relationship, what happens if the writing just dries up? …What if writing is directly tied to my torment and pain? And it turns out, that’s not the case at all, and we just were catching lightning in a bottle with this record.

“But it’s nice because you’re coming from a place of happiness and love, you can go back to those places. You can look forward to other things,” she said.

Swift has also since responded to rumours that ‘The Life Of A Showgirl’ could be her last album, saying “it’s a shockingly offensive thing to say.”

NME gave ‘The Life of a Showgirl’ three stars, writing: “To seek escapism is not a sin, but the best pop music makes the personal feel like life or death. ‘Speak Now’, ‘Reputation’, ‘Folklore’: her greatest works could be genuinely transformative. For the first time, ‘The Life of a Showgirl’ sees Swift not catalysed into artistic growth by love, but merely comfortably secured by it.”

Yesterday, Swift also released a music video for ‘The Fate Of Ophelia’, making it the first official single from the record.

Donna Kelce Celebrates Travis Kelce’s Birthday With Taylor Swift Nod

by jummy84 October 6, 2025
written by jummy84

The opening song on Taylor Swift‘s The Life of a Showgirl references the character Ophelia from William Shakespeare‘s Hamlet, who faces a tragic fate.

According to the song’s lyrics, Taylor “might’ve drowned in the melancholy” if she hadn’t been saved by her true love.

“I heard you calling / On the megaphone,” Taylor sings. “You wanna see me all alone.”

The lyrics appear to be a nod to Travis Kelce calling Taylor out on his New Heights podcast for not meeting him at her Eras Tour, which is how their romance began.

“I swore loyalty to me, myself and I,” the lyrics continue. “Right before you lit my sky up.”

Before meeting Travis, Taylor was fresh off a breakup from Matty Healy, having declared herself one of the “independent girlies” in July 2023.

But after Travis went to her concert in Kansas City that same month, sparks began to fly.

Now, Taylor’s fiancé is even in on her Easter egg game, teasing “The Fate of Ophelia” lyrics on Instagram back in July. (Had some adventures this offseason,” he captioned pics with Taylor, adding, “Kept it [100].”)

How does that connect to Taylor’s song? Well, as the lyrics go, “You dug me out of my grave and saved my heart from the fate of Ophelia / Keep it one hundred.”

Taylor Swift: The Life of a Showgirl Album Review

by jummy84 October 6, 2025
written by jummy84

These aren’t obscure soundalikes—they are several of the most famous songs already ever made, now recreated in the genre of “Taylor Swift song.” Whatever vision Martin and Shellback set out to realize here is not really serving her strengths and, intentionally or not, appears to signal a disinterest in evolution. “Father Figure” has some of the album’s strongest writing, with the signature Swiftian heel turn at the bridge, and I could not be less excited about how the production sounds, which is unremarkable compared to its inspiration, the 1987 George Michael song that’s still so hot you remember it from Babygirl. It’s not worth being mad about “CANCELLED!,” a swagless “Look What You Made Me Do,” even when Swift hits us with, “Did you girlboss too close to the sun?”

I can sort of recommend “Opalite,” a better-days-ahead anthem for gemstone lovers that sounds like a stage adaptation of Post Malone’s “Circles,” or maybe it’s Maroon 5’s “Sugar”? “Honey” is quite sweet—a simple hip-hop beat flecked with bass, clarinet, and banjo, it finds room in the spotlight for the extensive live instrumentation that’s sometimes overshadowed on other songs. The same is true of Swift’s charming detour back to country-pop alongside Sabrina Carpenter on the closing title track, which ties a bow on the theme of A-list drama and glamour with lines like, “They ripped me off like false lashes” and a Swedish guy playing pedal steel guitar. (He’s Anders Pettersson and he also appears on “The Fate of Ophelia,” far and away the most convincing song overall, and normie dream house “Wi$h Li$t,” in which Swift imagines a future where, apparently, everyone looks just like Travis Kelce.)

“The Life of a Showgirl” is a little schmaltzy, but it’s proactive about introducing an independent personality with a story to tell, and Carpenter is a real asset. It’s one of the moments when, musically, The Life of a Showgirl brushes up against a much better idea—a big, glorious pageant that inspires organic passion and camaraderie; a concept album with the ambition to do something familiar like it’s never been seen before. The rest of the time, Showgirl sounds like much of the pop music you have heard over the past 10 years and throughout your lifetime; it asks that this time, you listen more closely, because this is Taylor Swift, with the enormity of commercial power and cultural significance and algorithmic rank that implies. “In my industry, attention is affection,” Swift says in her video commentary introducing “Actually Romantic.” That’s the showgirl’s job: making you pay attention. It’s working, and if this is the only pop album you hear this year, maybe it’s good enough.
