Sydney Sweeney anticipates ‘bittersweet’ end to Euphoria filming

Sydney Sweeney says it will be “bittersweet” to finish filming on the third season of Euphoria.

Sydney Sweeney has almost finished production on the third season of Euphoria

The 28-year-old actress plays Cassie Howard in the acclaimed HBO teen drama series and is ready for an “emotional” end to production on what is expected to be the show’s final season.

Speaking at Variety’s Power of Women ceremony on Wednesday (29.10.25), Sydney said: “It’s gonna be a really bittersweet moment.

“I’m kind of terrified for how emotional it’s gonna be. It’s been such a journey. It’s been my entire twenties. They’ve been my family and friends for so long. I’ve been forever grateful for all of them.”

The Immaculate actress added: “I was 20 when I did the pilot, so being able to see a lot of the same people, it feels very comforting.”

Sweeney’s Euphoria co-star Jacob Elordi previously revealed that he enjoyed the “liberating” experience of filming season three and praise the show’s creator Sam Levinson for “constructing something that’s incredibly clever and cinematic”.

The Australian actor said: “It was incredible, man.

“It was incredibly liberating. I got to play something so sort of far out from what I’ve done before.”

However, the Saltburn star isn’t actually sure about what happens in the third season.

Jacob said: “Everybody shoots at different storylines. I don’t know what anyone else is doing. I had a really singular storyline. You don’t know what the other story lines are.

“It’s like FBI files. So it’s great because I’ll get to consume the show the same way that everybody else does as a fan, which I haven’t been able to do before. I’m really excited.”

Meanwhile, Sydney revealed that she found it very emotional to return to the Euphoria set following the death of co-star Angus Cloud – who passed away aged 25 in 2023 after a drug overdose.

She told Variety: “It was definitely a very emotional experience to go back to a set and not have him be there with you. He was such a special person, and he was taken way too young.”

Sydney leaned on her family and her co-stars after Angus passed away.

The Christy actress said: “I’m glad I was home because I was surrounded by my family.

“I think my first call was Maude (Apatow), and then Jacob, and we were all just crying on the phone together. It’s not something you want to bring people back together over, but I’m thankful to have my castmates to be able to process all of that together.”

Sydney Sweeney Is “So Excited” To Meet Kim Novak Before ‘Scandalous!’

Although Sydney Sweeney is back in character as Cassie to film Season 3 of Euphoria, she’s ready to dive into her next meaty role.

The 2x Emmy nominee recently said she’s “going to turn my brain into” Kim Novak after completing the HBO Max series, and she’s “so excited” to meet the 92-year old actress from Hollywood’s Golden Age before beginning production on Colman Domingo‘s directorial debut Scandalous! for Miramax.

“I’m incredibly honored to be bringing Kim to life. I mean, she is such an amazing actress,” she told People. “I think her story is still very relevant today in that she dealt with Hollywood and scrutiny with her relationships and her own private life and the control of her image. And I think that for me, I relate to it in a lot of different ways.”

Sweeney added, “Once I finish Euphoria, I switch into Scandalous! gear and I’m going to turn my brain into Kim. I’m so excited. I’m like, ‘Oh my God. I’m going to meet Kim Novak.’”

Hopefully, their meeting will put some of Novak’s concerns to rest. “I don’t think the relationship was scandalous,” she said in August.

“He’s somebody I really cared about,” Novak told The Guardian. “We had so much in common, including that need to be accepted for who we are and what we do, rather than how we look. But I’m concerned they’re going to make it all sexual reasons.”

Last October, Deadline exclusively announced Domingo will direct Scandalous!, about the 1957 love affair between Novak and Sammy Davis Jr., with David Jonsson set to play the latter. Also reprising his role for Season 3 of Euphoria, Domingo is set to begin production after wrapping the series.

Domingo previously opened up to Deadline about depicting “this fractured love story” with his upcoming directorial debut.

“And then hopefully we’ll make a beautiful, sweet film that’s really about the possibility of love, but under many eyes, trying to have privacy, trying to have love, trying to have a life,” he said last November. “And I think it’s something that Sydney and I both know very well. We’re trying to advocate for your humanity again in your life.”

Written by Matthew Fantaci, producers include Sweeney, Tani Cohen and Bobby Rock, with Jon Levin exec producing.

Tonight, Sydney Sweeney continues her press run for her upcoming biopic, Christy, with a premiere in Los Angeles. In honor of the exciting moment, the star chose to do something drastic—chop and dye her waist-skimming locks. Of course, her go-to hair team, colorist Jacob Schwartz and hairstylist Glen Coco, were on hand for the transformation.

“Sydney was looking for a change and wanted to have a big hair moment for the red carpet to support her new movie, Christy,” says Schwartz, who worked with Schwarzkopf Professional products to do the color transformation in a single day. “It felt like the perfect time to do something bold.”

And bold it was. Schwartz described Sweeney’s hair as a “dark suede blonde”—natural and rooty. This look is much more monochromatic and overall a much brighter blonde than before. “It’s more of an icy blonde,” Schwartz adds. “The color really makes her eyes and features pop and complements the cut so well.”

In the film, Sweeney’s character goes through her own hair transformations, including a brunette curly mullet, a shaggy pixie, and blonde box braids. But when it comes to real life, Sweeney chose to join Team Bob (other fans include Zoe Kravitz and Pamela Anderson).

“This is a transformation,” Coco says of the blunt, chin-skimming haircut, adding that it’s the shortest that her hair has ever been. “Christy has a lot of underlying tones of resilience, transformation, and power. Sydney herself transformed herself for this role, and I wanted to morph her into this updated version of herself in real life. Something new and fresh to close out the rest of the year.”

Continuing promotion for Christy, her forthcoming biopic of the boxer Christy Martin, the actor touched down in the United Kingdom for the BFI London Film Festival, where she decided to step out of her comfort zone on the red carpet. Sweeney turned to Seán McGirr to fashion her a custom McQueen gown.

“We wanted to take Sydney in a bit of a new direction for this—something distinct from the more romantic and princess silhouettes she’s often gravitated toward in the past,” Sweeney’s stylist, Molly Dickson, tells Vogue. “What I love most about Sydney is her openness—she’s always game to experiment and evolve. This look was about stepping slightly outside her comfort zone, and McQueen brought that vision to life with such precision and strength.”

Sydney Sweeney trained hard for her role in Christy

The 28-year-old star plays female boxing trailblazer Christy Martin in the upcoming movie and overhauled both her diet and exercise regime during the time she had to prepare physically for the part.

In a Q+A at Hamptons International Film Festival, Sydney recalled: “Every morning I would weight train for an hour, then I would go and do boxing for three hours, and then another hour of weight training at night. I did that every single day for three months, with a nutritionist, so eating a bunch of food and protein shakes and supplements. I, in that span of time, gained, like, 35lbs.”

Sydney explained that Christy was “very involved” during the making of the film and felt that her presence was invaluable as she was keen to perfect her portrayal of the boxer.

The Echo Valley actress said: “She kind of became my best friend. Having her with us was a really powerful experience.

“I’ve never had the person who I’m portraying watch me. You’re never really sure what they’re thinking. But as it went on, I just wanted her there the entire time because I was able to study her and listen to her and have her thoughts and opinions there whenever I needed.”

Sweeney added: “I try to lose myself completely for a role, so I try not to carry any of my own stuff into their life. But I honestly learned so much from Christy that I applied to myself.”

The Euphoria star previously stated that she was determined not to use a stunt double for any of the boxing scenes featured in the movie.

Sydney said: “Every single fight you see, we are actually punching each other. We are going full force.

“I always believed that you would not be able to make it feel real if it’s a stunt double or if it’s faking the hits.”

Christy Martin became the most well-known female boxer in the US during the 1990s and was also the victim of an attempted murder by her abusive husband James Martin in 2010 – with Sweeney shocked that her story hasn’t been told on a “global” level.

She told Vanity Fair: “I was blown away that her story wasn’t more known on a universal, global level because it’s just one of the most harrowing and inspiring women that I’ve ever met in my entire life.”

The Paul Feig-directed psychological thriller is set for release on December 26 and is based on the 2022 novel of the same name by Freida McFadden. Sweeney plays Millie Calloway, a housemaid for a wealthy family headed by Andrew and Nina Winchester, played by Brandon Sklenar and Amanda Seyfried.

The trailer, shared by Lionsgate yesterday (September 16), begins with Millie being greeted by Nina as she arrives for an interview and being shown her room as an unsettling version of Sabrina Carpenter’s ‘Please Please Please’ plays, interspersed with an ominous scene of someone banging on a wooden door.

As Millie settles into her role with the Winchesters, the trailer takes a darker turn as she sees behind their image as the perfect family, with a series of twists in store for the housemaid. Millie is offered a lock for her door and finds a cabinet full of medicine, while we see police at the home, a disturbing dollhouse, and Nina screaming in her car.

The official synopsis reads: “The film plunges audiences into a twisted world where perfection is an illusion, and nothing is as it seems. Trying to escape her past, Millie accepts a job as a live-in housemaid for the wealthy Nina and Andrew Winchester.

“But what begins as a dream job quickly unravels into something far more dangerous — a sexy, seductive game of secrets, scandal, and power. Behind the Winchesters’ closed doors lies a world of shocking twists that will leave you guessing until the very end.”

Sweeney said that she became a fan of the novel, explaining at CinemaCon (via Variety): “I could not put [the book] down. I ended up reading all three [books in the series] in one week. There’s characters that are flawed, and they are messy.”

Feig said earlier this year, “Tension and scares and comedy are so wrapped together. It was a dream come true.”

Rebecca Sonnenshine adapted the novel, with Feig telling People that it’s a “faithful interpretation”, though with “a good number of added surprises along the way.”

Meanwhile, an HBO executive has confirmed that teen drama Euphoria – in which Sweeney plays Cassie Howard – will officially be coming back for a third season next year.

The Housemaid stars Sydney Sweeney as Millie Calloway, a young woman with a troubled past who takes on a job as a live-in housemaid for a wealthy family, however, their seemingly perfect life unravels when she discovers their household hides dark secrets beneath the surface. Also stars Amanda Seyfried, Brandon Sklenar, Michele Morrone, & Elizabeth Perkins. Yet another sneaky new “wildly entertaining” mysterious movie from director Paul Feig – expect plenty of bonkers twists & turns. Yep it looks pretty crazy! The 46-year-old boxer was found dead at his home in Greater Manchester on Sunday (14.09.25) and now actress Claire – who dated the sports star last year – has sent her “deepest sympathy” to his family and declared he was “adored and cherished”.

In an emotional statement posted on Instagram, she wrote: “I’ve needed a few days to process the devastating news about my dear friend Ricky.

“My thoughts are with his family especially his children Campbell, Millie Fearne and Lyla, his granddaughter.

“To them, Speaky (Ricky’s manager Paul Speak) and to all his friends who loved him so deeply and for so many years I send you my deepest sympathy. Ricky, you were the people’s champ.

“We adored and cherished you. Love you always.”

Claire and Ricky had been friends for a long time before their relationship turned romantic last year. However, the romance didn’t last and Claire previously admitted they had gone back to being friends again.

She told MailOnline: “We’re still friends, we were friends, we dated and now we’re friends again. It’s all good.”

Before dating Claire, Ricky was in a relationship with model Chelsea Claire, who declared she had been left “heartbroken” by news of his death.

In a post on Instagram, the model shared a picture of the former couple together and wrote: “Heartbroken doesn’t begin to cover what myself and the rest of the world are feeling.

“You were an inspiration to many and I was lucky to call you my partner. You will be missed so much.”

The couple dated in 2023 after meeting at a bar in Tenerife and Chelsea previously admitted she had no idea who he was when they first met, but he won her over with his dancing karaoke singing.

She told The Sun newspaper: “I didn’t know who he was but my friend offered to buy him a drink. “Instead, he looked over at me and asked me what I wanted. I said a Fireball. We both got them then went on the dance floor most of the night.

“He’s not afraid to take the p**s out of himself and was doing the worm dance]. He had me laughing all night.

“I can’t say his dancing was as good as his karaoke. He sang Wonderwall by Oasis and he’s a really good singer. But he was just a real character and he added my Instagram that night so we could see each other again.”

“Oh boy ladies & gentlemen, have I got a treat for you!” Black Bear Pictures has unveiled the official trailer for Christy, hot on the heels of its successful premiere at the 2025 Toronto Film Festival last week. Christy is now set for a US release in theaters nationwide starting in November later this fall. “What does it take to become a legend?” The sports movie tells the story of of Christy Martin, the most successful female boxer of the 1990s. From the TIFF description: “Featuring a career-best performance from Sydney Sweeney, the latest from David Michôd (Animal Kingdom) chronicles groundbreaking boxer Christy Martin’s fierce story of self-actualization in the face of terrifying adversity…” They also add: “Dealing with themes of misogyny, domestic violence, and sexual identity, the film does justice to Christy’s journey by being frank about the obstacles she overcame.” Critics have been saying Sweeney is awards worthy in this, with a strong emotional lead role as Christy. The cast also includes Ben Foster, Merritt Wever, Katy O’Brian, Ethan Embry, Jess Gabor, Chad Coleman, Bryan Hibbard, and Gilbert Cruz. It looks like yet another cliche boxing movie like so many others before it, but it also seems to throw some strong punches of its own. Take a look.
