Suspects Arrested After Theft Of Crown Jewels

French officials have announced the arrest of two suspects in connection with the theft of crown jewels from the Louvre museum. The update comes a week after the heist that stunned the world, inspired endless social media content and sparked a massive manhunt.

One Suspect Arrested While Trying To Flee Country

On Sunday (October 26), the Paris prosecutor said that investigators made arrests Saturday evening. Prosecutor Laure Beccuau did not confirm the number of arrests and did not say whether any of the Louvre jewels had been recovered. However, French media BFM TV and Le Parisien newspaper earlier reported that police officials detained two suspects. Beccuau also said investigators from a special police unit in charge of armed robberies, serious burglaries and art thefts made the arrests.

Also, a police official—who was not authorized to speak publicly about the case—told The Associated Press that the two men were in their 30s and known to police. He said one suspect was arrested as he attempted to board a plane bound for Algeria from the Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport.

Additionally, cops identified one of the suspects through DNA traces. Prosecutor Beccuau said earlier this week that forensics experts were analyzing 150 samples at the scene.

Prosecutor Calls Out Early Leak Of Arrests

In her statement, Prosecutor Laure Beccuau rued the premature leak of information. She said it could hinder the work of over 100 investigators “mobilized to recover the stolen jewels and apprehend all of the perpetrators.”

“I deeply regret the hasty disclosure of this information by informed individuals, without consideration of the investigation,” Beccuau said on Sunday night, per ABC News.

Beccuau said officials will reveal further details after the suspects’ custody period ends. As of Saturday evening, police had up to 96 hours to hold the alleged suspects in their custody before needing to release or charge them. It’s unclear whether these suspects were still in custody on Tuesday.

French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez praised “the investigators who have worked tirelessly, just as I asked them to, and who have always had my full confidence.”

Recap Of What Thieves Stole During Louvre Heist

Thieves took less than eight minutes on October 19 to steal jewels from the world’s most-visited museum. The stolen goods are valued at 88 million euros ($102 million). French officials described how the intruders used a basket lift to scale the Louvre’s façade, forced open a window, smashed display cases and fled. The museum’s director called the incident a “terrible failure.”

The thieves escaped with a total of eight objects. The list includes a sapphire diadem, necklace and single earring from a set linked to 19th-century queens Marie-Amélie and Hortense. They also took an emerald necklace and earrings tied to Empress Marie-Louise, Napoleon Bonaparte’s second wife, and a reliquary brooch. Empress Eugénie’s diamond diadem and her large corsage-bow brooch were also part of the loot. Officials later found one piece, the Eugénie’s emerald-set imperial crown with more than 1,300 diamonds. It was outside the museum, damaged but repairable.

The Louvre reopened last week after one of the highest-profile museum thefts of the century. Meanwhile, the world is still gagged by the audacity and scale of the heist that’s now even inspired Halloween costumes.

The world’s most famous museum just became the scene of one of Europe’s boldest crimes. Authorities in France are investigating a daring daylight robbery at the Louvre Museum in Paris that left priceless Napoleon-era jewels missing. Suspects have now been arrested in connection with the heist—one near Paris and another while attempting to flee the country—as police continue to search for more accomplices and the stolen treasures.

Learn what’s been revealed so far about the suspects, how the robbery unfolded, and the latest updates in the investigation below.

How Did the Louvre Heist Happen?

The brazen robbery occurred on October 19, 2025 at about 9:30 a.m., just after the museum opened.

Thieves, disguised as construction workers in high-visibility vests, drove a truck with an extendable ladder to reach a second-floor balcony of the Apollo Gallery via the Seine façade. They used power tools—an angle grinder and other equipment—to cut a window, broke into two display cases containing Napoleonic-era crown jewels and escaped on motorbikes in what French officials described as a “professional” operation lasting only seven minutes.

Investigators found DNA traces on a helmet and glove left at the scene, giving them a strong forensic lead.

Who Are the Louvre Heist Suspects?

As of late October, two men in their 30s have been arrested in connection with the theft, French police confirmed to Reuters. One was apprehended at Charles de Gaulle Airport while trying to leave the country; the other was arrested in Seine-Saint-Denis.

Both men are reportedly known to authorities for previous criminal activity. Law enforcement officials told local outlets they believe the pair are part of a larger, organized network that may include additional accomplices still at large.

How Much Money Did the Louvre Thieves Steal?

The thieves made off with eight or so pieces of historical Crown Jewels from the Apollo Gallery, estimated to be worth approximately €88 million (about US $100 million) in total.

One of the stolen items—a crown once worn by Empress Eugénie—was recovered later outside the museum, broken.

Cops on Lack of Named Suspects, Charges

Los Angeles police confirmed Monday that the Tesla registered to platinum-selling singer D4vd, which was found to have the decomposed remains of 14-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez stashed in its trunk, had been parked in its final spot for “several weeks” before it was finally towed earlier this month. The update verifies a Sept. 18 report in Rolling Stone.

Sources in the upscale Birds Streets neighborhood of the Hollywood Hills, where the car was last parked, previously told Rolling Stone that the black 2023 Tesla Model Y didn’t budge from its parking space on Bluebird Ave. for at least three weeks before it was cited and towed away on Sept. 5. They said before that, the car moved around intermittently and was spotted parked on a nearby street as far back as May.

“The vehicle had been parked at the location from which it was towed for several weeks, so Ms. Rivas Hernandez may have been deceased for several weeks before the discovery of her body,” the new statement from the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) released Monday afternoon said. The department said its Robbery-Homicide Division has been “diligently investigating” the case, but it’s also waiting for an official ruling on the cause of Rivas’ death. Though many online have speculated the teen must have been the victim of a homicide, considering how she was found, the medical examiner has yet to rule out the possibility that she suffered an accidental death, such as an overdose, or a suicide.

“The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner has not yet determined the cause or manner of Ms. Rivas Hernandez’s death. As such, it remains unclear whether there is any criminal culpability beyond the concealment of her body,” the new LAPD statement released Monday said. “RHD is thoroughly examining every aspect of this case to uncover the truth and seek justice for Celeste Rivas Hernandez and her family.”

D4vd, born David Burke, was out of state on a national concert tour when news broke on Sept. 8 that human remains were recovered from his Tesla. Rivas’ body was found after staff at the tow lot reported that the vehicle was “emanating a foul odor and attracting flies,” according to a search warrant affidavit obtained by Rolling Stone.

Rivas, who would have turned 15 years old the day before she was discovered, had been reported missing by her family on multiple occasions in 2024, according to online missing person fliers. The family has not responded to requests for comment, but Rivas’ mother reportedly told TMZ that her daughter had a “boyfriend” named David. Photos and video purportedly showing Rivas and Burke in close proximity have circulated on social media over the last few weeks, but police have not named Burke, or anyone, as a person of interest in the case. Burke’s lawyer has not responded to multiple requests for comment.

In another twist, Rivas had a tattoo on her right index finger that read, “Shhh…”, the medical examiner revealed when it identified Rivas as the victim in the Tesla. Burke appears to have a similar tattoo on the same finger, according to a photo published by People in April.

Police later searched a rental house in the Hollywood Hills that’s a block and half from where the Tesla was towed. The home’s owner confirmed to Rolling Stone that it was rented to Burke’s manager. The four-bedroom house was the backdrop for photos and content posted online by Burke, and it appears he was living in the home before he went out on tour.

In his first interview with the media after the search, the home’s owner, Mladen Trifunovic, told Rolling Stone on Sept. 18 that he had no idea that Burke had been living at the property until his real estate manager informed him that day.

“This all came as a complete shock to me. I only found out about the police activity this morning,” Trifunovic said at the time. “Until then, I had no idea anything had happened at the house or what was going on with D4vd and the missing girl. I never knew D4vd, and I wasn’t aware that he had ever lived in the house.”

Trifunovic said his lease was with Burke’s manager, Josh Marshall. The lease began in February 2024, he said. Marshall has not responded to requests for comment.

Burke, 20, has not commented publicly on the teen’s death. A day after the grisly discovery of Rivas’ remains, Burke performed at a show in Minneapolis, tossing Labubu toys to his fans. The rest of his tour was later cancelled.

It took investigators more than a week to identify Rivas as the victim. Her body was so “severely decomposed” that the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office could not distinguish her eye color or race and listed her weight as 71 pounds. “She appears to have been deceased inside the vehicle for an extended period of time before being found,” the medical examiner’s office said in an online report. The cause of the teen’s death is still listed as “deferred.”

When the body was first discovered, a law enforcement source confirmed the Tesla was registered to Burke at an address in Hempstead, Texas. Burke was notified of the investigation and was “cooperating” with authorities, a source close to the singer confirmed to Rolling Stone.

Trending Stories

Though Burke seemed unfazed leading up to Rivas’ identification, the fashion companies Crocs and Hollister pulled back on a campaign that featured the musician modeling a collaboration between the popular brands. “We are aware of this developing story. With respect to the current situation, we have removed campaign content featuring D4vd while the investigation continues,” the brands said in a joint statement sent to Footwear News.

Burke, born in New York, first gained notoriety as a Fortnite gamer and musician with the self-produced song, “You and I,” released online. He broke through to mainstream success in the summer of 2022 with the hit singles “Romantic Homicide” and “Here With Me,” after they garnered so much traction on TikTok, they jumped to spots on the Billboard charts. He released his debut EP, Petals to Thorns, in May 2023. His debut studio album, Withered, was released in April 2025.

Charlie Kirk died following a shooting at Utah Valley University on September 10, 2025. He was 31. The late right-wing activist and Donald Trump supporter was in the middle of his “American Comeback Tour” presentation at the school when shots were fired. The shooter was initially said to be in custody, but CNN later reported that no one was in police custody. Kirk was ultimately struck and taken away by his security team, but the president later confirmed that he was dead.

“The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead,” Trump wrote in a statement via Truth Social. “No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us. Melania and my Sympathies go out to his beautiful wife Erika, and family. Charlie, we love you!”

The Republican followed up in a separate post, “In honor of Charlie Kirk, a truly Great American Patriot, I am ordering all American Flags throughout the United States lowered to Half Mast until Sunday evening at 6 P.M.”

A loyalist to Trump, Kirk had demonstrated his support for the president through the latter’s 2024 campaign. The 31-year-old was the founder of Turning Point USA: a nonprofit organization that advocates for conservatives on college campuses. He also hosted his radio talk show, “The Charlie Kirk Show,” on Salem Media’s “The Answer” channel.

What Happened to Charlie Kirk? Shooting & His Death Explained

In the afternoon of September 10, Kirk was reportedly answering a question about transgender mass shooters in the United States. Shortly after Kirk alleged there’s been “too many” transgender mass shooters, shots were fired from a nearby campus building about 200 yards away, according to CNN.

From January 2013 to now, there have been more than 5,700 mass shootings in America, and five of those shooters were confirmed as transgender, founding executive director of the Gun Violence Archive, Mark Bryant, said, per CNN.

Kirk was visibly struck by one of the shots, and he was seen slumped in his seat before blood poured down his neck. He was hospitalized and died later that day.

Who Shot Charlie Kirk? Suspect Identity Updates

Initially, Utah Valley University claimed that a suspect was in custody, but officials later clarified during a press conference that the person was not the shooter. They added that the shooter is currently at large.”

At the time of publication, the shooter’s identity in Kirk’s death has not been publicly identified.

University Security Measures Called Into Question After Kirk’s Death

A witness told CNN that there were “no security measures” implemented at Kirk’s Utah Valley University event that day. There were allegedly no metal detectors nor bag-checking requirements, the witness told the outlet.
