Life Is Beautiful! Life Is Beautiful! Life Is Beautiful!

The Dears

Next Door

7 November 2025

Montreal’s the Dears were at an impasse after 2020’s Lover’s Rock. Frontman Murray Lightburn and his wife, Natalia Yanchak (keys, vocals), fulfilled rescheduled dates for the record and embarked upon shows celebrating the 20th anniversary of their renowned No Cities Left (2004). That is not to mention other media projects that grabbed their interest and took hold. As a result, over five years have passed since we last heard from the band.

Life Is Beautiful! Life Is Beautiful! Life Is Beautiful! arose from a spontaneous moment at one of the No Cities Left shows. Lightburn said, “I was on stage surrounded by wonderful musicians, playing songs I wrote in my 20s. My kids and my mom were sitting up on the balcony of the theatre. Natalia was just to my right. I told the audience that sometimes it gets tough, but that life is beautiful. I asked the audience to say it with me, three times: A mantra; a wish; an affirmation.”

Nestled in the warmth of that heartfelt sentiment, we are asked to consider their latest record. Even when things seem to be at their most trying, the Dears encourage us to realize this fleeting time on earth is a beautiful thing that’s worth celebrating.

Those familiar with the Dears’ work will be taken aback by the complexity of their compositions and the diverse sources of inspiration. “Doom Pays” applies a 1970s glam rock flair that sounds nothing like the band have ever recorded. They routinely use strings, but this record employs horns with equal fervor.

The infectious “Deep in My Heart” features a pulsating groove that evokes the sound of Fleetwood Mac. Considering the addition of horns, it brings a rhythm one might expect from Dave Matthews Band, something wholly unconventional in this universe. Opener “Gotta Get My Head Right” even showcases multiple parts, meaning their more comfortable Morrissey inclinations (“Dead Contacts”) now feel foreign.

The themes also vacillate between what’s predictable and clearly not. The lead single, “Babe, We’ll Find a Way”, puts relationships front and center, suggesting that larger problems are secondary to those that take place at home—a rather insular view on how to cope with the world’s troubles. Conversely, the urgent “Tears of a Nation” inspires a particular response to conflict: “Now war is at our doorstep / And it’s a threat to our way of life / Are we to build up our resistance / And put up one hell of a fight?” The track is steeped in dark tones, with Lightburn chasing his howling vocal refrain with screams of pain.

Life Is Beautiful! Life Is Beautiful! Life Is Beautiful! feels like a deliberate shift in several ways. The Dears shuffled through a number of members over the years, the only fundamental constants being Lightburn and Yanchak. Even with some longer-tenured bandmates, such as Jeff Luciani on drums, we tend to set aside the contributions of other musicians in favor of the two main ones. Of course, their chamber pop sound had to come from somewhere, but that’s really secondary to their central story.

Couples in indie bands are not a new phenomenon, but many do not withstand the test of time, either due to the pressures of that environment or simply natural dissolution. On the surface, even the most steadfast relationships tend to break down (I’m looking at you, Thurston Moore and Kim Deal). For every Ira Kaplan and Georgia Hubley, there’s a Jack and Meg White, Adrianna Lenker and Buck Meek, and now Win Butler and Régine Chassagne.

The Dears feature one of those rare, unwavering unions. We have learned to revere Lightburn and Yanchak for bringing us into intimate spaces that were previously reserved for spouses and partners. Consider the personal photos used for the cover art of Times Infinity Volume 1 (2015) and Volume 2 (2017). The group have never shied away from their relationship being the reason for their existence. “Our Life”, a mid-tempo meditation about the journey they’re on together, is, however, as close as they can get to approximating what fans have become accustomed to hearing.

For a band this far into their career, it’s surprising they are willing to take a certain amount of risk (especially following the retrospective act of an anniversary tour). Love is not the central theme in Life Is Beautiful! Life Is Beautiful! Life Is Beautiful! That means other issues have come to the fore. The returns aren’t as immediate, even if the group’s beauty ultimately shines through. Lightburn sounds willing to expand the Dears’ universe, not at the detriment of losing something they have worked so hard to achieve, but rather asserting his confidence that they will emerge whole.

Luke Bryan rubbishes ‘misinformation’ surrounding sister’s death

30 October 2025

Luke Bryan has rubbished the “misinformation” that surrounds his sister’s death.

Luke Bryan has dispelled some online theories

The 49-year-old singer’s sister, Kelly Bryan Cheshire, passed away in 2007, aged 39, and Luke is keen to dispel some of the rumours that surrounded her death.

During an appearance on the All There Is podcast, he shared: “I never really explained what happened to my sister, there’s some misinformation out there on the internet and I think some people wonder what happened and they think that we’ve tried to cover it up.

“There is a very, very small percentage of people who die for no reason – and it’s called sudden death syndrome and that’s essentially what they described my sister’s death as.”

Luke described his sister’s passing as being “tragic beyond words”.

He explained: “She was in her home doing her laundry and it was like somebody turned the switch off on her and it was just tragic beyond words.”

Luke’s older brother, Chris Bryan, died in a vehicle collision in 1996. However, he admitted that losing his sister was a different experience.

He said: “My brother, you can conceptualise a car accident, but you can’t really conceptualise someone that was healthy as a horse and she’s just gone.”

Meanwhile, Luke has heaped praise on his wife Caroline, observing that she’s helped him to navigate some of the most difficult times in his life.

The singer – who has sons Thomas, 17, and Tate, 15, with Caroline – said: “I don’t know anybody that could have done what she’s done.

“I mean, she goes into life thinking she’s marrying a country music singer, and then next thing you know, she’s helping the girls and the boys and still putting up with my antics.

“It’s been an amazing journey. And it wouldn’t, you know it couldn’t have gone on without walking in that bar [Dingus MaGee’s] at Georgia Southern.”

Luke explained that Caroline had faced her own challenges, too.

He shared: “She lost — her brother and [sister-in-law] lost a young seven-month-old baby [Brett]. And we’ve had to watch them deal with grief, losing a seven month old, very close to us and we love them.”

Mayor Bans Disturbed’s Belgium Show Over Safety Risks Surrounding David Draiman’s Support of Israel

Disturbed were set to play the venue Forest National in Brussels, Belgium, on October 15th as part of “The Sickness 25th Anniversary Tour,” but it now appears that show will not take place. A local mayor has ordered a ban on the show over safety concerns tied to frontman David Draiman’s support of Israel.

Charles Spapens, mayor of Forest, a municipality of Brussels, issued the following statement, per The Brussels Times: “My responsibility and priority are the safety of residents, neighbors, demonstrators, spectators and staff at Forest National. Given the police’s negative advice and the venue’s unique location, it was my duty to make this decision.”

His decision came after a police risk assessment warned that Draiman’s appearance could lead to violent demonstrations around the venue. It was also influenced by a national strike set to take place a day earlier in Brussels, as well as the anticipation of other demonstrations that may occur in the area.

Draiman, who is Jewish, has been an outspoken supporter of Israel for years, but it appears that it’s the photos of him signing Israel Defense Forces (IDF) missiles he tweeted in June 2024 with the hashtag “#FuckHamas” that raised the most concern for Mayor Spapens and local authorities.

Those photos came to light again earlier this year when Draiman engaged in a war of words with pro-Palestinian UK hip-hop band Kneecap.

As of this posting, the Brussels concert is still listed on Disturbed’s official website, with tickets still being sold via Live Nation Belgium. Disturbed have not made any official statement regarding the status of the show.

The Hijab Controversy Surrounding Deepika Padukone’s Latest Ad Explained – But Fans Are Already Defending Her! | Glamsham.com

Bollywood’s favourite power couple Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh are back in the spotlight, this time not for a movie, but for their latest campaign with Visit Abu Dhabi. Called “Mera Sukoon”, the stylishly filmed video sees the couple discover the peaceful scenery, vibrant culture, and symbolic landmarks of Abu Dhabi, and celebrate love, peace, and togetherness.

The clip picked up speed online — not just for its imagery but also for a specific scene that caused reaction. Deepika is spotted wearing a hijab while paying a visit to the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in one such moment. The actress received widespread acclaim from fans for being so graceful and culturally aware. Social media was filled with comments such as “She looks stunning in a hijab,” and “Their show of respect for Arab culture makes me like her even more,”.

But the same scene had also incited outrage among a section of users, who accused her of disrespecting Hindu customs. Posts like “Boycott Deepika,” and “She’s double-faced,” started trending, with some demanding a boycott of her films.

In turn, the actress’s supporters reminded the critics that donning an abaya or hijab is a dress code required at the mosque — one in which all female guests, of any religion, comply. One of them noted, “Even Rihanna covered up when she went. It has nothing to do with religion, only respect.” Another chimed in, “She has never disrespectfully approached Hindu temples. Why pick on her now?”

In spite of the digital divide, most comments were favorable, praising Deepika for her cultural sensitivity and demeanor.

The ad also brings Deepika and Ranveer together in their first professional project post-Singham Again, making it all the more special for their fans. Shot in the deserts, museums, and landmarks of Abu Dhabi, the campaign has already gone viral — winning hearts and creating buzz.

The Controversy Surrounding Triptii Dimri’s Parveen Babi Biopic: Should Her Life Story Be Monetized? | Glamsham.com

Triptii Dimri has had a meteoric rise in the Hindi film industry, especially after her unforgettable cameo in Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal. Despite the polarising discourse around her character, her screen presence was undeniable and it catapulted her into the mainstream spotlight. Dubbed the “national crush” soon after, Dimri’s success didn’t just stop at online adoration; it translated into meaty film offers and leading-lady status.

The last year saw a turning point for the Laila Majnu alum. Triptii played full-fledged leading roles, seamlessly shifting from supporting roles to playing top commercial projects. She was the key female presence between Vicky Kaushal and Ammy Virk in Bad Newz, added hot sparks opposite Rajkummar Rao in Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video, and is next going to be seen sharing screen space with Kartik Aaryan in Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3. She recently hogged the limelight opposite Siddhant Chaturvedi in Dhadak 2, a spiritual follow-up of the Janhvi Kapoor-Ishaan Khatter success.

Though she does not have any other releases planned for this year, the hype about her isn’t dying down anytime soon. If Pinkvilla’s reports are to be believed, Triptii has now been approached to essay Parveen Babi in a new Netflix limited-series biopic. Shonali Bose (The Sky Is Pink) is set to direct the series, which will go on floors by March 2026.

Remembering PARVEEN BABI

Parveen Babi is still one of Bollywood’s most mysterious and iconic stars. A superstar of the 1970s and ’80s, she epitomized her era’s Westernized, glamorous image a far cry from the bourgeois representation of women in Hindi cinema during that period. Her formidable screen presence, along with performances in such classics as Deewaar, Amar Akbar Anthony, Shaan, Namak Halaal, and Kaala Patthar, created a space that was all her own.

So, does Triptii possess the mettle to play someone as strong and charismatic as Parveen Babi? The answer perhaps lies in being able to balance the vulnerability with the strength something she has already shown in her recent performances. The task is certainly Herculean, but the career graph and acting skills of Triptii indicate she could possibly possess the depth and screen presence necessary to do justice to the icon. Everyone will now be looking at this ambitious venture as it starts to come together.
