‘RHOSLC’ Star Mary Cosby Subject of TLC Investigative Series

TLC has set a new investigative series around The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star Mary Cosby.

The three-part docuseries, titled The Cult of the Real Housewife, looks into Faith Temple Pentecostal Church, the church Cosby shares with her husband, Robert Cosby Sr.

Per the logline, the series “unpacks the allegations behind the headlines, revealing the darker and more unsettling truth about the church.” Ex-congregants speak out for the first time in the series, including long-standing pillars of Faith Temple, the Enoch family, to provide “deeply person and disturbing accounts from family members,” including Mary’s sister, Denise Jefferson Okinada, and Mary’s cousin, Dan Cosby, along with his wife, Kim.

Here’s more from TLC: “The Cult of the Real Housewife traces the dramatic rise of Faith Temple from its founding by the beloved Rosemary ‘Mama’ Cosby, grandmother of Mary Cosby, to her passing, the controversial transfer of leadership, and her husband’s marriage to Mary. This hotly contested bequeathment pushed Faith Temple into a controversial, new era. … [The series] pulls back the salacious headlines and social media takes to dive deeper and unpack one of the most enduring mysteries at the core of the scandal: how have Mary and Robert Cosby Sr. managed to avoid accountability for so long?”

The docuseries also features investigative journalists and bloggers who have reported on the story, as well as a leading cult expert, and boasts access to recordings of “controversial sermons” delivered by Mary and Robert Cosby Sr., as well as extensive archival from the early days of Faith Temple.

The Cult of the Real Housewife hails from the directors of discovery+’s House of Hammer, which explored the accusations of sexual assault and cannibalism fantasies against actor Armie Hammer, and is directed and produced by Elli Hakami and Julian P. Hobbs for TLC.

The series premieres Jan. 1 from 8-11 p.m. on TLC, streaming the next day on HBO Max & discovery+.

The Cult of the Real Housewife follows TLC’s recent investigative series Hillsong: A Megachurch Exposed, which examined allegations of abuse, exploitation and celebrity influence.

The Hollywood Reporter has reached out to a rep for Cosby, as well as Bravo, home to Real Housewives of Salt Lake City, which is currently airing its sixth season.

Emmerdale star Joshua Richards on Bear’s shocking descent into modern slavery – and past role exploring “horrifying” subject matter

Joshua Richards has spoken at length for the first time about his Emmerdale character Bear Wolf’s shocking new storyline.

Bear, who has been missing for several months while his son Paddy Dingle (Dominic Brunt) assumed he was staying with a friend in Ireland, has actually been manipulated as a victim of modern slavery.

Shedding light on Bear’s circumstances, Richards told RadioTimes.com and other press that “basically it’s something that you can slip into, and if you’ve been manipulated a certain way”.

“And being a certain age as well, where maybe you do think that you’re useless and redundant, if someone convinces you that no, you are worth something, that you do have some kind of currency. Currency being the operative word,” he emphasised.

It’s a harrowing new story for the soap. ITV

“You can be somehow manipulated into a situation that you didn’t envisage seeing yourself in, in the first place. So it’s quite fascinating how these things actually do happen.”

The actor has described Bear’s ordeal as “one of the most horrifying things you can possibly think of”.

“Some are in the dark web of life, there are people who are gangs, who are criminals, who are ready to exploit people. Because the biggest bill you’ll ever get for anything you have done, for example your house extension, the biggest part of your bill is the labour,” he explained.

“And if criminal gangs can take that essence out, that you don’t have to pay for that labour, then that’s where big profits are made, people are exploited and misery begins.”

Richards went on to share how he prepared for such a harrowing storyline.

“All I can do is be a very old-fashioned actor and read the script because I don’t hold with the method way of things,” he said. “I didn’t lock myself away in a tent or hide in the countryside and try to scrabble along.

“No, I just read the scripts and used my imagination to put myself in the position of other people, who are in the real position. Basically it’s done by the auspices of the great researchers and the writers of the drama.”

Something that helped the star, who joined Emmerdale in 2019 as Paddy’s long-lost father, was that he has already portrayed modern slavery in his career.

“But also what’s fortunate for me, in 2007 I did a play written by John Godber and Jane Thornton from Hull Truck [Theatre Company] called Sold. Which was all about modern slavery.

“That was 18 years ago and we did it in Hull and also in Liverpool University, so it’s not a new subject for me; it’s something I’ve been aware of for many years and even before I did that play.

“It is quite frightening that even as we speak, there are about [50] million people in modern day slavery, which is horrific.”

Asked about the instalment in which Emmerdale will detail how Bear was targeted, Richards revealed: “Yes, it’ll be a standalone episode, where we’ll have some kind of explanation of what exactly happened to him after he got in his car and drove away.

“We did see a few weeks after he’d left the village that he was still with his car and not with his friend Gnasher in Ireland at all. So we will find out exactly what happened to him.”

The episode was filmed backwards, meaning that, after being assured that he would be coming back to the show, Richards had one specific assignment during his time off.

Celia and Ray – who are already grooming Amelia and Dylan – are his captors. ITV

“Clare Golds in make-up said: ‘Whatever you do, don’t cut your hair and don’t shave your beard. Go raggedy’. So I became a raggedy old man while I was off.

“You first see Bear when he’s at the real bottom, looking really filthy and scraggly and unkempt. Then bit by bit we took it away.”

While soaps have briefly explored modern slavery in recent years, this is the first time it will be covered in depth – and with an older character like Bear, who, notes Richards, typically considers himself strong and capable of defending himself.

“I thought it would be interesting, because of course Bear has been experiencing this depression and confusion. So maybe it’s a great thing to find him so vulnerable – a big strong man being vulnerable and exploited.”

On the message he hopes this story can send, Richards told RadioTimes.com and other media: “Be aware – it’s going on under our noses.

“We all have our cars cleaned and say: ‘Ooh, that’s cheap’. But who are the people cleaning your car? I mean, that’s just a very tiny part of it.

“It’s other things, it’s people who are picking your spuds, it’s people who are fixing your driveway, maybe there’s somebody doing work on your roof. You really don’t know. I mean, there are bona fide proper people – builders, farmers, other people – out there,” he said.

“I’m very proud to be part of what ITV is doing with these wonderful writers and the great research which has gone on. And maybe hopefully something… it will prompt something and there will be action.”

How does Richards think the viewers will react to the revelations about Bear?

“They’ll be furious!”

“I do get people coming up to me and saying: ‘How is Bear? We’re worried about him?’ You think ‘this is great’ because people who watch this soap really do care.”

Emmerdale is working with the Salvation Army on Bear’s story, which has also seen teens April and Dylan groomed in recent weeks.

Single Salma Review: A Good Subject But The Story Goes Astray! | Glamsham.com

Details
Huma Qureshi’s film “Single Salma” is a romantic comedy starring Huma Qureshi as Salma. In addition to Huma, Shreyas Talpade and Sunny Singh also appear in pivotal roles. The film is directed by Nachiket Samanta.

Story
The story of the film “Single Salma” is set in Lucknow and London. Huma Qureshi plays Salma, a modern-day girl burdened with family responsibilities.Salma works to support her family, but despite being 33, she is unable to get married. Meanwhile, there’s Sikandar (Shreyas Talpade), who, despite being 40, is also unable to marry due to responsibilities. Sikander and Salma’s marriage is finalized and about to take place, when Salman has to travel to London for work, where he meets Meet (Sunny Singh). A different track begins there, and the story continues.

Writing and Direction
The film Single Salma was co-written by Mudassar Aziz, Amina Khan, and Ravi Kumar. The subject of the film is good where a girl is passionate about fulfilling her responsibilities even when her father has given birth to many daughters to have a son. We often see in our society that many people give birth to multiple daughters in the hope of having a son. The film also portrays a girl’s desire to fulfill her desires, her freedom, and her willingness to choose happiness. In our country, the aspect of parents wanting their children to get married at the right age is good but the script is weak.

Sometimes a film’s theme sounds appealing, but when it’s translated to screen, it falls flat. The film Single Salma seems to have met a similar fate. The film begins in Lucknow and offers the feel of a good story, but once it reaches London, it begins to wander. It feels like the story has stalled. The drama also becomes overdone after the interval.

Some of the film’s dialogue is good and suits the characters. Shreyas Talpade’s 40-year-old look also doesn’t look good. His character’s mustache and hair were dyed brown to make him appear middle-aged, which didn’t seem right. Some of the film’s scenes are well-written, especially those featuring Salma and her friend. Some of Shreyas and Huma’s scenes also feel authentic.

Acting
There’s no fault in the acting of anyone in Single Salma. All the actors have played their roles well. The story revolves around Huma Qureshi, so she is the leading lady of the film.

He’s played the role he’s been given with a masterful performance. While Shreyas Talpade’s look as Sikandar may seem a bit odd, he’s portrayed the undereducated and burdened Sikandar with a strong sense of responsibility. His scenes with Huma are also good. Sunny Singh plays Meet, a modern boy. He fits the role perfectly.

Overall
The film Single Salma is billed as a romantic comedy, but I feel it lacks comedy. Shreyas’s dialogues are laughable at times, but not enough. Of course, the film’s subject matter is good, and at times, it feels realistic. The film’s subject and the warmth of small town love are well portrayed, hence the film gets 2 stars.
