Superstar Rajinikanth celebrated a warm and intimate Diwali with his family this year, sharing glimpses with fans. His daughter, director Soundaryaa Rajinikanth, posted a series of affectionate photos from their low-key celebration on Instagram. In one heartwarming photograph, Rajinikanth is spotted seated on a couch alongside his wife Latha, while their daughters Soundaryaa and Aishwarya place hands on the shoulders of their parents. The post had a simple caption, “Wishing you all a very Happy Deepavali,” which was full of warmth and togetherness. Actress Lakshmi Manchu responded with, “Happy Diwali Mittu and the whole family.”

Earlier in the day, Rajinikanth supporters arrived in huge numbers outside his residence at Poes Garden, Chennai, wishing to catch a glimpse of their beloved Thalaiva. Wearing a traditional white vesti and kurta, Rajinikanth came out to greet them, waving with broad smile, folding hands to say thank you, and even blowing kisses. The street was filled with “Happy Diwali Thalaiva!

” as the superstar happily accepted gifts, shook hands with the media in brief words, and thanked everyone for the pure unconditional support of his fans — a Diwali treat they’ll never forget.

Cardiologist warns artificial sweeteners stealing years from your brain: ‘62% faster cognitive decline with high intake’

Several health studies have linked the consumption of sugar with many diseases. A 2022 Harvard Health report states that consumption of added sugar leads to higher blood pressure, inflammation, weight gain, diabetes, and fatty liver disease, which are in turn linked to an increased risk for heart attack and stroke.

Scared of these alarming effects of sugar consumption, many people swap it with artificial sweeteners. But are they any better? Did you know your sweet tooth could also be causing ageing in your brain?

Are sweeteners speeding up your brain’s ageing?

In an Instagram post shared on September 11, Dr Sanjay Bhojraj, MD, an interventional cardiologist and functional medicine doctor, highlighted the fact that sweeteners may be harming our brains and explained how they cause brain ageing. He wrote, “Small swaps today. Stronger brain tomorrow.”

Dr Bhojraj explained, “Most people swap sugar for artificial sweeteners, believing they’re the safer choice. But new research is sounding the alarm.”

He cited a neurology study conducted with 12,000+ adults and pointed out: “Could artificial sweeteners be stealing years from your brain? Researchers observed clear patterns in cognitive health. This isn’t just about replacing sugar. I’ve seen this story before: choices that look harmless end up silently costing health and longevity.”

Harmless choices silently cost health and longevity

The cardiologist warned, “Artificial sweeteners can disrupt metabolism, interfere with the gut-brain connection, and add long-term stress to your cardiovascular and cognitive systems. What feels like a safer choice today may quietly accelerate decline tomorrow.”

Additionally, he highlighted several facts associated with sweeteners that prove that they are harmful to the brain. Here’s what the expert said:

  • High sweetener intake was linked to a 62 percent faster cognitive decline
  • Equivalent to 1.6 years of accelerated brain ageing
  • Strongest impact on people under 60 and those with diabetes

He added, “The good news? Longevity isn’t about luck – it’s about making smarter decisions based on science, not shortcuts.”

Matt Smith reveals how he had one of his ‘greatest days on a film set’ in new movie Caught Stealing

Indeed, speaking exclusively to RadioTimes.com ahead of the film’s release, Smith revealed that there was one day in particular that he had especially enjoyed: filming a high-octane car chase sequence.

“That was one of my great days on a film set,” he said. “I loved that day, because what we had is this thing called a biscuit, which I’ve never seen anything like. And basically, you’re attached to a rally car engine with a rally car driver, and they’ve got this sort of… how do you describe… like, a winch on the back.

“So then you’re in, like, this fairground ride, you’ve got a rally car engine and a rally car driver on the front!”

Aronofsky added, “Yeah, you don’t have to really worry about it… you can just sit there and scream at the top of your lungs!”

Smith added that Aronofsky also let him do a bit of driving for himself – after a couple of lessons – with the director explaining that he wanted to have some grounding to the chase scene.

“It was great because, like, so many action films have kind of taken the physics of it totally bananas and insane – as if that’s the way to engage audiences well,” he said.

“I’m not critiquing that, but there’s something about returning to real physics and real broken bones and real dented cars that is exciting, and you can still find energy in it.”

Caught Stealing follows events after Austin Butler’s ex-baseball player gets caught up in the criminal underworld of ’90s New York when he is asked to look after Smith’s character’s cat, with Zoë Kravitz, Regina King and Liev Schreiber among the other stars with key roles.

And while the film includes plenty of the trademark intensity found in Aronofsky’s other acclaimed films – which include Requiem for a Dream, Black Swan and mother! – there’s also a more freewheeling sense of fun that feels quite new for the filmmaker.

But Aronofsky says that he more or less approached this film the same way he approaches all his projects.

“I think I approach them all the same, but I always think making films is a lot of fun, and I wanted to have a lot of fun making this film,” he said.

“There was definitely an intention to leave audiences with a feeling of joy and [that they] have a good time at the end of it. But still, I guess it is an intense ride as well. So maybe you get the best of both worlds!”

Caught Stealing releases in UK cinemas on Friday 29 August 2025.
