CBS News’ Bari Weiss Shocks ’60 Minutes’ Staff With Question About Why Country Thinks They’re ‘Biased’

by jummy84 October 20, 2025
written by jummy84

Just days after taking over as editor-in-chief of CBS News, Bari Weiss has reportedly already rocked the boat with some of her staffers. The New York Times published a report on Sunday, October 19, about alleged tension between Weiss and the staff of 60 Minutes following a meeting on Tuesday, October 14.

Weiss reportedly asked the staff, “Why does the country think you’re biased?”

“The inquiry was met with stunned awkwardness, according to three people who recounted details from the private session in Midtown Manhattan,” Michael M. Grynbaum and Benjamin Mullin wrote in the New York Times piece. “The staff of 60 Minutes, the nation’s most-watched news program, view their coverage as firmly nonpartisan and reject criticism from President [Donald] Trump and his allies who argue that it has a liberal slant.”

President Trump sued CBS News’ parent company, Paramount Global, in 2024, claiming 60 Minutes deceptively edited an interview with Kamala Harris in her favor. Trump and Paramount Global reached a $16 million settlement earlier this year, which has brought the media company under much scrutiny.

Weiss just became the editor-in-chief of CBS News on October 6, but has wasted no time making waves. According to the NYT report, there has been a mixed reaction among CBS News staff to their new leader.

“Some staff members are hopeful that Ms. Weiss will bring some needed energy and ideas to a news division that has struggled to adapt to the digital age,” Grynbaum and Mullin added. “Her interest in big interviews and bigger audiences has buoyed some CBS journalists, who think their network, which has cycled through five presidents in five years, needs a shake-up.”

The journalists also reported that Weiss is “impressing” some top executives at CBS, while “confounding” others. Plus, they noted, she has already been personally involved in some interview bookings with subjects who are right-leaning.

“Ms. Weiss, an ardent supporter of Israel … helped book an interview with Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli prime minister,” the report said. “She later worked with 60 Minutes producers to land Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff, the architects of President Trump’s Middle East peace plan, for this Sunday’s episode.”

Marshall Jefferson was working nights at a Chicago post office when he gave house music its first true anthem — a distinction so obvious that he just named the song that. The song was made in 1985 when, high on inspiration, Jefferson dragged a few coworkers into his studio, banged out a track in six hours, and left convinced he’d made something special. His friends disagreed, and even fellow DJs gave him a polite shrug, but Jefferson pushed on.

To be fair, pianos had rarely, if ever, been featured in a house track at that time, but inspired by Elton John’s tickling of the ivories, Jefferson went all in on “Move Your Body,” sending riffs tumbling into a tough, sweaty groove with piano stabs and rapidfire percussion. Above it all, vocalist Curtis McClain issued a joyful command — “Gimme that house music to set me free! / Lost in house music! Is where I wanna be!” — that doubled as a notice of the genre’s arrival.

Where Jefferson’s friends saw doubt, DJ Ron Hardy saw potential and immediately played the song six times in a row during a set at The Music Box in Chicago, to rousing crowd approval. Local jocks got their hands on a copy, and by the time “The House Music Anthem (Move Your Body)” officially released on Trax Records (again, under dubious circumstances) in 1986, the craze had spread overseas, the dawn of Chicago’s house sound growing into a global movement.

Jefferson may have presciently given his own single the subtitle of “The House Music Anthem,” but the song has surely earned it. It hasn’t stayed frozen in time, either: Jefferson’s 2019 collaboration with Solardo brought it roaring back to festival stages, while the 2025 rework “Life Is Simple (Move Your Body)” with Maesic and Salomé Das introduced it to yet another generation.

Forty years on, the song still calls, and dance floors still enthusiastically answer. — K.R.

Jimmy Kimmel staff ‘relieved’ by return

23 September 2025

Staff at Jimmy Kimmel Live! felt “relief and joy” when they were told they could return to work.

Jimmy Kimmel is poised to return to his show

The long-running TV chat show is set to return to the air on Tuesday (23.09.25), and staff members are thrilled by the news.

One staffer told People: “Relief and joy across the board.

“Myself and my colleagues are overjoyed. Can’t wait to see tomorrow’s monologue.”

Staff received the news via email. However, the message they received was notably “different” to Disney’s public statement.

A staff member explained: “It was short and to the point. Just sharing the good news and telling us to come to work tomorrow.”

Jimmy’s return to TV was announced by Disney on Monday,

The media company said in a statement: “Last Wednesday, we made the decision to suspend production on the show to avoid further inflaming a tense situation at an emotional moment for our country. It is a decision we made because we felt some of the comments were ill-timed and thus insensitive.

“We have spent the last days having thoughtful conversations with Jimmy, and after those conversations, we reached the decision to return the show on Tuesday.”

The comedian was originally suspended after suggesting that Tyler Robinson, the man accused of fatally shooting Kirk at a university in Utah, was aligned to the Make America Great Again movement.

Jimmy said in an opening monologue: “We hit some new lows over the weekend with the MAGA gang desperately trying to characterise this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it. In between the finger-pointing, there was grieving.”

The decision to suspend Jimmy, 57, was initially announced by Nexstar Media, the largest local broadcast and digital media company in the US.

The company explained at the time: “Nexstar strongly objects to recent comments made by Mr. Kimmel concerning the killing of Charlie Kirk and will replace the show with other programming in its ABC-affiliated markets.”

MPRM Staff Departs To Join 42West In Hollywood PR Shakeup

by jummy84 September 18, 2025
written by jummy84

EXCLUSIVE: At least 10 film and TV publicists from MPRM Communications have abruptly departed the firm and headed to Dolphin Entertainment-owned 42West. The exiting group includes MPRM’s Film & Entertainment EVP Sylvia Desrochers and longtime awards and corporate strategist Caitlin McGee.

Not that MPRM is simply waving bye-bye.

“MPRM intends to pursue any and all available remedies through litigation, if necessary,” the firm told the departing staffers in a letter from the company’s lawyers Wednesday.

Sources says the MPRM staffers who have joined 42West’s Entertainment Marketing Division — who along with Desrochers and McGee include Lisa Bustamante, Senior Vice President; Tiffany Wagner, Senior Strategist; Jacki St. Thomas, Vice President; and Account Directors Kim Gutierrez and Caitlin Jaynes — departed because they were under the impression MRPM co-founder Mark Pogachefsky was considering retirement. Even if that’s ultimately true, per other sources, there were discussions with the exiting staffers about their obligations to the firm.

In fact, aiming to throw a chill on the move by the now former MPRM staffers, the firm’s outside lawyers at Early Sullivan Wright Gizer & McRae sent a sharp letter to Desrochers today — and made sure to cc 42West.

“This purpose of this letter is to not only address the requirements for your departure from MPRM and return of its property, but also to put you on notice of the separate and individual liability you may face as a result of your receipt and subsequent use of trade secrets and other confidential information during your employment at MPRM and interference with MPRM’s contractual relations and economic advantage,” attorney Devin McRae wrote in that way that only lawyers can without actually suing someone. “We admonish you that you will be acting at your own peril if you continue to proceed in this manner.”

The letter concludes: “We urge you to exercise caution as you proceed. MPRM desires to part ways with you without any further disruption to its business, but will not hesitate to seek all available relief, both monetary and injunctive, if its rights have been violated.”

Read the full letter below.

The fact is that in the social media-challenged world of Hollywood PR, musical chairs has become the norm as expectations and execution shift across the industry.

The MPRM group’s move comes in the wake of the firm’s deft handling of Barry Avrich’s hot-button documentary The Road Between Us, which was initially invited by TIFF, then disinvited, then given a huge world premiere at the Roy Thomson Hall where it played to an emotional packed house with Israeli and Palestinian protesters outside.

It’s our understanding that some staffers still remain at MPRM; in other words, the entire film and TV department did not leave.

At 42West, the newly arrived ex-MRPM staffers will be involved in designing and executing PR campaigns for films, TV, podcasts, filmmakers, production companies, film festivals and more. Recent 42West campaigns include the highest opening ever for an anime film in Crunchyroll/Sony’s Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle ,which is coursing toward a $100 million gross this weekend, and the awards season and festival runs of Hamlet, Nuremberg, Retreat, You Had to Be There, Powwow People and Youngblood.

As for Desrochers, over her two-decade career she has collaborated with filmmakers including Oscar winners John Ridley, Freida Lee Mock, Errol Morris, James Moll, Susanne Bier, Sofia Coppola, Curtis Hanson and Alfonso Cuarón, as well as on theatrical and awards campaigns for Sam Pollard, Liesl Tommy, Lauren Hadaway, Tig Notaro and Stephanie Allynne, Scott Alexander and Larry Karaszewski, Kim Peirce, Mira Nair and Philip Kaufman.

Since joining MPRM in 2007, McGee’s clients have included Disney, Netflix, National Geographic, Showtime, PBS and PBS Distribution, AMC Networks, Starz, Sony Pictures Television and Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, TV One, NBC, DreamWorks Animation Television, Amazon, Bunim-Murray Productions, Activision Blizzard, Crackle Plus, Discovery, FXX, HBO, Sonic Gods Studios, MTV, The CW and EndemolShine among others.

Read the lawyers’ letter here:

Dear Ms. Desrochers:

This firm is litigation counsel to MPRM Communications (“MPRM”), the employer from which you abruptly resigned without notice while possessing and utilizing MPRM’s property. There are numerous issues that must be addressed to effect your termination and to ensure that you do not further harm MPRM’s business operations by your unlawful conduct.

You and at least 10 other employees of MPRM – all of whom were privy to trade secrets and other confidential, proprietary information – have joined or plan to join the staff at 42West and purport to be moving all of MPRM’s existing clients there. This purpose of this letter is to not only address the requirements for your departure from MPRM and return of its property, but also to put you on notice of the separate and individual liability you may face as a result of your receipt and subsequent use of trade secrets and other confidential information during your employment at MPRM and interference with MPRM’s contractual relations and economic advantage. We admonish you that you will be acting at your own peril if you continue to proceed in this manner. MPRM will pursue all available remedies against you individually – including, but not limited to, monetary damages and injunctive relief if your course of conduct continues.

At the outset, MPRM’s principal, Mark Pogachefsky, is extremely disappointed and, frankly, personally hurt, by your decision to abandon your employment with not even a day’s notice provided. Mr. Pogachefsky worked with many of you for decades and considered you to be his close friends and colleagues. That you would destroy the decades of trust and friendship by this maneuver to loot MPRM’s client list and business goodwill does not sit well with Mr. Pogachefsky. The number of players in this industry is small, and memories are long.

1. End of Employment Relationship and Return of MPRM Property

Initially, as is standard in the termination of an employment relationship, effective as of the date of your departure from employment, you may not return to MPRM’s premises without express permission, which will be communicated to you only if such circumstances should arise. Your departure from employment also means that you must immediately cease any and all work for, representation of, and involvement with MPRM, and refrain from taking any actions on behalf of MPRM (either expressly or impliedly) or from taking or using any MPRM funds, property, documents, data, or other assets or information, except as specifically authorized in this letter. This includes, but is not limited to, refraining from emailing, texting, calling or otherwise contacting any MPRM employees, consultants, vendors or clients using MPRM email addresses and/or other MPRM property. Additionally, you must return and/or provide the following items and information to MPRM:

1. All files, memoranda, documents, customer lists, and records of MPRM (including but not limited to trade secret information), as well as all copies of the foregoing;
2. All computers, computer equipment, and other electronic devices purchased with MPRM funds;
3. All MPRM credit cards;
4. All MPRM keys, key cards, and identification badges related to MPRM business;
5. All username and password information related to any MPRM accounts to which you have access, including but not limited to all MPRM bank accounts, email accounts, software, shared storage drives, social media accounts, and other related and/or similar accounts;
6. Any other MPRM property, documents, or information.

All of the listed items must be provided by 5:00 p.m. September 19, 2025; please inform us immediately if that timeframe will not be possible for any specific items. Any physical items or documents requested can either be mailed directly to MPRM, or else messengered to MPRM at a mutually agreeable date and time.

We caution you that any MPRM material that you fail to return and/or delete is done so without the permission of MPRM. Such misappropriation of materials is a violation of multiple California laws, including theft, intentional interference with contract and prospective economic advantage, conversion, unfair competition, violation of your duty of loyalty and potentially misappropriation of trade secrets. To the extent you utilized your MPRM and/or personal computer to engage in this misconduct, it may also be a violation of the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act, which would subject you to potential criminal prosecution.

2. Conduct Going Forward

The coordinated departure of this group, with no notice period provided, immediate hiring at competitor 42West, and attempts to port all of MPRM’s clients to 42West raises numerous legal issues of which you should be aware.

First, you owed to MPRM the fiduciary duty of loyalty. Any use of MPRM’s property, confidential or trade secret information and/or time for which you were being paid by MPRM to orchestrate this coordinated departure, persuade clients to move with you to 42West, negotiate or discuss the terms of your employment with 42West or simply disclose confidential information to 42West for your own material benefit constitute breaches of this duty and other law. You can be sure that MPRM is investigating this matter.

Second, MPRM has devoted substantial time and effort and millions of dollars into cultivating, fostering and maintaining relationships with its clients and developing confidential and proprietary strategies to address and service these clients’ individual issues and concerns. The MPRM Communications Handbook, of which you are an acknowledged recipient, requires that you maintain the confidentiality of all trade secrets, confidential and commercially sensitive information about the company and its operations. To the extent that you have used or intend to use these confidential proprietary trade secrets to either your or 42West’s benefit, this constitutes a violation of numerous California laws, including without limitation the Uniform Trade Secrets Act, California Business & Professions Code 17200 and potentially fraud and fraudulent concealment as well as the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act.

Third, as you know, MPRM has ongoing contracts and economic relationships with its clients. Your, and potentially 42West’s, actions described above constitute wrongful conduct designed to and with the intended effect of interfering with and disrupting those contractual and economic relationships. This interference will cause severe damage to MPRM’s business.

Because MPRM intends to pursue any and all available remedies through litigation, if necessary, we must demand that you preserve all documents in accordance with the rules of discovery. This includes all electronic or physical documents regarding your work at MPRM, communications regarding your employment at 42West, communications with clients of MPRM regarding your employment at 42West and solicitation to move their business to 42West, coordination with other MPRM employees regarding your departure from MPRM, and other related matters, which includes electronic communications such as e-mail messages and attachments, text messages, voicemail messages, and instant messages. MPRM expressly reserves the right to take whatever action it deems appropriate to protect and enforce its rights with no further notice, including initiating litigation.

We urge you to exercise caution as you proceed. MPRM desires to part ways with you without any further disruption to its business, but will not hesitate to seek all available relief, both monetary and injunctive, if its rights have been violated. A copy of this correspondence is being provided to your new employer, 42West, so that they are likewise on notice with respect to the foregoing. Nothing set forth herein constitutes a waiver of any of my client’s rights, remedies, claims or defendants at law or in equity all of which are expressly reserved.

Very truly yours,

Devin A. McRae on behalf of EARLY SULLIVAN WRIGHT GIZER & MCRAE LLP
