“My dream was for my family to be normal and fit in.” These two! Love them! Variety has debuted one of the best “Actors on Actors” conversations they’ve ever recorded for this year’s awards season. It features father & son actors Alexander Skarsgård & Stellan Skarsgård discussing their films, their acting work, their family and so much more. Stellan Skarsgård is a beloved Swedish actor who has 8 kids in total – one of them is Alexander Skarsgård, along with his brothers Bill Skarsgård & Gustaf Skarsgård who are also actors. What I adore about this conversation is that it’s playful and honest and open – but also still fun and amusing and obviously jokey. When you put two actors in a room together, they’re going to riff, and some of this is not to be taken seriously. That said, I appreciate how deep they get chatting about acting. Variety has been making these “Actors on Actors” videos for years and years they’re always good to watch, but this one gets a special mention. I think they captured a genuine spark between them that makes it seriously special – enjoy.

Alexander Skarsgard & Stellan Skarsgard

Thanks to Variety / CNN for posting this video online for everyone to enjoy. Featured as part of their 2025 “Actors on Actors” series this awards season. Their full intro: “Father and son duo Stellan Skarsgård & Alexander Skarsgård sit down to talk about their varied careers. Stellan reflects on returning to acting in Sentimental Value after suffering a stroke, while Alexander discusses his role in the gay biker BDSM rom-com Pillion. They also bicker about competing in the same category at the Gotham Awards, how Alexander unwillingly got his start in acting, and what it was like growing up in the ‘bohemian’ Skarsgård household.” To watch more videos from Actors on Actors, head over to Variety’s YouTube. Directed by Joachim Trier, Sentimental Value is already playing in theaters after premiering at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival. Directed by Harry Lighton, Pillion also premiered at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival and is now playing in UK cinemas – opening in the US starting February 2026. Both films are worth watching. Who else enjoyed their chat?

Stellan Skarsgard refuses to give parenting advice to his kids

Father-of-eight Stellan Skarsgard refuses to give parenting advice to his kids because it’s “very dangerous”.

Stellan Skarsgard has opened up about parenting

The Dune star, 74, is dad to six grown-up children – Alexander, 49, Gustaf, 44, Sam, 43, Bill, 35, Eija, 33, and Valter, 29 – with his first wife My Skarsgard as well as Ossian, 16, and Kolbjorn, 13, with his second wife Megan Everett and he is also now a grandfather but he’s adamant he won’t be passing on any of his wisdom about raising families.

He told PEOPLE: “I haven’t given them [his kids] any advice at all because it is very dangerous to do.

“Because if they listen to my advice and they’re successful, it’s because of me, and if they listen to my advice and they’re not successful, it’s my fault. So it’s a lose-lose situation.”

He added of his children: “Watching the characters and seeing how different they are. Even if they have the same genes, it’s amazing how different they are.

“All my eight kids, they’re very different too. There are some things in common, but they all have personalities.”

Four of Stellan’s older children have followed him into the acting industry and his two youngest boys are also keen on forging careers in Hollywood with Kolbjorn recently making his acting debut in 2022 miniseries Clark.

However, Stellan previously admitted the youngster has been given a tough time over his famous family connections by bullies at school who branded him a “nepo baby”.

Stellan told Vulture: “My 13-year-old, Kolbjörn, the youngest, suffers from that. “When his pals at school call him nepo baby, he gets so sad. He doesn’t have any friends at school.

“He gets isolated. Cruel kids – or cruel and ignorant. They love it on the internet. But it is such a bulls*** thing. Because nobody would hire you, at least not for anything good, if you’re not good enough.”

He went on to insist his kids have benefitted from his passion for his work, adding: “Your work is you to such a big extent. It’s not like being an accountant.

“If you’re a painter, if you’re a musician, you go to work with you and your own material. Combining that with family life is hard.

“But if you become a really good father and you are at home more than you want to be, then suddenly you reduce yourself …

“You’ve become some other person. It’s like you would think differently. You would act differently. You need your creative art. It’s your stimuli.

“And you are more fun to the kids when you come home and tell them a story that you can’t tell them if you haven’t been stimulated. I’m trying to defend myself now.”

First Look Teaser for ‘Dead Man’s Wire’ Thriller Starring Bill Skarsgard

“These people lure in common folk, give ’em a taste of the American Dream, and then spit ’em right out!” Row K Entertainment has revealed a teaser trailer for the hit film Dead Man’s Wire, which received huge applause and tons of great reviews playing across many film festivals this fall. Dead Man’s Wire is the latest film directed by American filmmaker maestro Gus Van Sant, an entirely true story from the 1970s about a hostage situation. “His revolution was televised.” Based on a true story, the 1977 kidnapping of a prominent banker grips the nation and turns the everyman abductor (starring Bill Skarsgård) into an outlaw folk hero. As the media frenzy peaks, the standoff becomes a spectacle of desperation, defiance and blurred justice, which resonates even today. Starring Bill Skarsgård as Tony Kiritsis, Dacre Montgomery as Dick Hall, Cary Elwes, Myha’la, Colman Domingo, and Al Pacino. I saw this at the Venice Film Festival (read my review) and the audience went nuts – they were full-on cheering & applauding throughout the entire credits. Opening in theaters in January in just a few months from now – this film deserves to end up a big smash hit.

Here’s the first look teaser trailer for Gus Van Sant’s film Dead Man’s Wire, direct from YouTube:

The morning of February 8, 1977, Anthony G. “Tony” Kiritsis (starring Bill Skarsgård), 44, entered the office of Richard O. Hall, president of the Meridian Mortgage Company, and took him hostage with a sawed-off 12-gauge shotgun wired with a “dead man’s wire” from the trigger to the Hall’s head. This is the true story of the stand-off that took the world by storm as Tony demanded $5 million, no charges & no prosecution, and a personal apology from the Halls for cheating him out of what he was “owed.” Dead Man’s Wire is directed by award-winning American filmmaker Gus Van Sant, director of many great films including My Own Private Idaho, Good Will Hunting, Psycho, Elephant, Finding Forrester, Paranoid Park, Milk, Restless, Promised Land, The Sea of Trees, and Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot previously. The screenplay is written by Austin Kolodney. And it’s produced by Noor Alfallah & Remi Alfallah, Mark Amin, Andrea Bucko, Gordon Clark, Tom Culliver, Cassian Elwes, Joel David Moore, Matt Murphie, Siena Oberman, Paula Paizes, Sam Pressman, Veronica Radaelli. This initially premiered at the 2025 Venice Film Festival earlier this year (our review). Row K will release Van Sant’s Dead Man’s Wire film in select US theaters on January 9th, 2026 early next year, expanding wide on January 16th. Who’s ready to watch?

New US Trailer for ‘Sentimental Value’ with Renate Reinsve & Skarsgård

“Everyone’s mad at Dad, huh?” Neon has unveiled their second official trailer for Joachim Trier’s terrific film Sentimental Value, which is opening in theaters starting in November this fall. It should’ve won the Palme d’or at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival this year. Instead it won the Grand Prix second prize, which I’m happy about anyway, because this film deserves any & every award. It keeps winning people over at every festival it plays at! After the death of their mother, sisters Nora & Agnes Borg are forced to confront their distant father Gustav, a once-famous though now nearly forgotten film director. Gustav, convinced that an autobiographical screenplay he’s written will be his ticket back to fame, offers the lead role to Nora, but she firmly refuses, prompting him to cast Hollywood actress Rachel Kemp instead in the lead role, whom he meets during a retrospective of his films in France. The film stars Stellan Skarsgård as Gustav, Renate Reinsve & Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas as the sisters, plus Elle Fanning as Rachel Kemp, and with Anders Danielsen Lie. One of my favorite films of the year! My review was quoted in the first trailer, and the same quote now appears on the official poster below. I’m happy audiences will finally get to experience this soon.

Here’s the second official trailer (+ poster) for Joachim Trier’s film Sentimental Value, from YouTube:

You can rewatch the first official US trailer for Joachim Trier’s Sentimental Value film right here for more.

Sisters Nora and Agnes reunite with their estranged father, the charismatic Gustav, a once-renowned director who offers stage actress Nora a role in what he hopes will be his comeback film. When Nora turns it down, she soon discovers he has given her part to an eager young Hollywood star. Suddenly, the two sisters must navigate their complicated relationship with their father — and deal with an American star dropped right into the middle of their complex family dynamics. Sentimental Value is directed by award-winning, acclaimed Norwegian filmmaker Joachim Trier, director of the films Reprise, Oslo August 31st, Louder Than Bombs, Thelma, The Other Munch, and The Worst Person in the World previously. The script is written by Joachim Trier and Eskil Vogt. It’s produced by Maria Ekerhovd and Andrea Berentsen Ottmar. This initially premiered at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival a few months ago (read our review). Neon debuts Trier’s Sentimental Value film in select US theaters starting on November 7th, 2025 this fall. Look good?

Stellan Skarsgård on Son Being Bullied, Called “Nepo Baby”

Hopper Penn and Dylan Penn

“I can see being really pissed that I got this role, as someone else,” Dylan told W after dad Sean Penn directed her in the 2021 drama Flag Day. At the same time, she added, as a working actress “I’ve been auditioning forever. I’ve been rejected forever.”

Regarding the kerfuffle over her brother starring in a Spielberg-daughter-directed short, Dylan stressed, “This is the business. It is about who you know. Always. Whether you’re the son of Sean Penn or not.”

Hopper, who made his movie debut in Sean’s film The Last Face, told E! News in February that the nepo baby conversation didn’t really affect him.

“I’m like, ‘If you like it, cool. If you don’t, great,'” he explained, having just made Devil’s Peak with mom Robin Wright. “And if you think that there’s nepotism going on, I really don’t care because I’m gonna do the work just as professional as everybody else, and I’m not gonna come there and do it half-ass because I’m working with my dad, I’m working with my mom.'”

Working with his father, Hopper noted, was the same “great nightmare” for him as it was for all the other actors who weren’t related to the director.

And on any project, he added, “if I messed up on the film the first day, I’d be fired just like everyone else. Or, if I was terrible, I’ll be terrible. And I have been terrible.”
