Band of Brothers (and Sisters): Making Music with the U.S. Army

by jummy84 November 15, 2025
written by jummy84

In the U.S. Army, music isn’t just background noise, it’s a heartbeat. It’s the sound of unity, of home, of hope when things get hard. And for the Soldiers who wear the uniform and play the notes, it’s proof that passion and purpose can march in step.

The Army is the country’s largest military branch — built on duty, discipline, and service — but it’s also one of the world’s biggest employers of working musicians. Across its Active Duty, Reserve, and National Guard components, the Army keeps more than 30 bands on the move, performing everywhere from small-town parades to international stages.

For the players behind the brass and woodwinds, this isn’t a side gig, it’s a calling.

As an Army musician, your stage could be anywhere: a dusty tarmac overseas, a bustling city square, or the steps of the Capitol on Independence Day. One night, you might be lifting the spirits of Soldiers far from home; the next, playing a ceremonial piece that honors a fellow soldier.

It’s not just about entertainment, it’s about connection. Every performance, from a field concert to a formal event, carries the weight of something bigger. “I didn’t give up my art,” says U.S. Army Tuba Specialist Antonio Huezo in the videos within. “I gave it a purpose.”

To earn that honor, musicians must audition and demonstrate a high level of technical skill and versatility. The Army hires across 16 musical specialties, from traditional orchestral instruments like trumpet, clarinet, and flute, to rhythm section staples like guitar, bass, and drums. There’s even a need for sound techs and vocalists who can command a room with more than just volume.

At the top of the pyramid are the Army’s four Premier Bands: The U.S. Army Band “Pershing’s Own,” The U.S. Army Field Band, The U.S. Military Academy Band, and The Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps. Such elite ensembles that perform for presidents, world leaders, and millions of Americans each year. These are the kind of gigs most musicians dream about, minus the club cover charge.

But prestige isn’t the only reward. Joining an Army Band means steady pay, top-tier gear, and the chance to collaborate with musicians who can sight-read, improvise, and march, sometimes all at once. It’s a world where precision meets passion.

Every Army musician starts the same way: with Basic Combat Training. It’s a crash course in teamwork, mental grit, and physical endurance. Such attributes carry over into every rehearsal and performance. From there, Soldiers head to the Army School of Music, a specialized training ground where practice rooms replace foxholes and the daily routine includes both pushups and band practice.

The school also teaches recording, editing, and post-production, giving players an inside track on the modern side of the industry. Whether you go Active Duty or join the Reserve, the Army doesn’t just shape you as a musician, it equips you with the discipline and skills to thrive wherever your career leads next.

There are no shortcuts in music: just scales, sweat, and repetition. The Army understands that rhythm. In its ranks, talent meets opportunity, and the result is something that sounds a lot like pride.

Serving as an Army musician isn’t about leaving the stage behind — it’s about redefining it. You’ll play for audiences that few artists ever reach, carrying the sound of America wherever duty calls.

And when the encore hits, you’ll know: every note matters.

Scissor Sisters announce huge UK outdoor shows for summer 2026

by jummy84 November 14, 2025
written by jummy84

Scissor Sisters have announced some huge UK outdoor shows for next summer.

Dubbed ‘The Kiki Continues’ tour, the shows will see the New York band perform live at London’s Brockwell Park on May 31, before continuing with a stop at Ludlow Castle in Shropshire on July 26.

The rest of the new dates all take place the following month, and include gigs in Saffron Walden, Scarborough and Halifax on August 6,8 and 9 respectively. They wrap up the shows with a final night at the Queens Park Recreation Ground in Glasgow on August 30.

These new shows add onto the handful of festival dates the band have lined-up for the UK over the summer – including a headline slot at London’s Mighty Hoopla, Hampshire’s Boomtown Fair, and Cornwall’s Rock Oyster Festival.

Tickets for the outdoor headline gigs go on sale next Friday (November 21) at 10am. Visit here for tickets and check out a list of tour dates below.

Scissor Sisters’ 2026 UK outdoor shows are:

MAY
31 – London, Brockwell Park

JULY
26 – Ludlow Castle

AUGUST
6 – Saffron Walden, Audley End
8 – Scarborough, Open Air Theatre
9 – Halifax, Piece Hall
30 – Glasgow, Queens Park Recreation Ground

While the band have not shared an album of new music since 2012’s ‘Magic Hour’, they did share a standalone single called ‘Swerlk’ with MNDR in 2017, as well as reissue their self-titled debut album in 2024, and follow that up with a ‘Deluxe Expanded’ version earlier this year.

They also supported Kesha on her recent run of across North American shows, and celebrated their 20th anniversary by heading out on tour and playing a huge slot at Glastonbury, bringing out Sir Ian McKellen as a special guest.

Towards the end of 2024, singer Jake Shears and bassist Babydaddy also spoke to NME about the tour dates planned for 2025, and how it felt to be described by some as a “gay band”.

When asked if it “grated” them to have that label, Shears replied: “It did, yeah. I was looking at our straight counterparts, and, I had a bit of resentment that we sort of had this extra label that made it easier for some [people] to dismiss us. I think I had a bit of a chip on my shoulder about that.”

Babydaddy agreed, saying: “It’s a lot less loaded now, but in that moment, I think there was a question of, like, ‘Are people saying that to put [the band] in its own little box?’ I don’t really know what it was supposed to say, except that we were open about who we were, and there were some themes [in our music] that were definitely queer themes.”

‘Susheela Ki Jawani’: Farah Khan offers Tees Maar Khan 2 to Ananya Panday, gives her Katrina Kaif’s sister’s role

by jummy84 November 6, 2025
written by jummy84

In 2010, fifteen years ago, Farah Khan directed Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif in Tees Maar Khan. The film received negative reviews, but it achieved moderate success at the box office and emerged as a cult classic over time. Akshay and Katrina’s sizzling chemistry, Akshaye Khanna’s impeccable comic timing and the iconic dance number Sheila Ki Jawani were some of the biggest highlights of the heist comedy film. But is there scope for a sequel? Well, Farah has now spilled the beans about Tees Maar Khan 2 on Twinkle Khanna and Kajol’s chat show. And Ananya Panday is hoping to get a role in it!

Katrina Kaif and Ananya Panday

Today on an episode of Two Much with Kajol and Twinkle, hosts Twinkle Khanna and Kajol were joined by the new besties in town — actor Ananya Panday and filmmaker-choreographer Farah Khan. In one segment, Kajol pointed out, “Tees Maar Khan didn’t do well but Sheila Ki Jawani did very well. That was a mixed bag.” Hearing this, Farah replied, “But I just want to tell you all, contrary to what people say, it made ₹64 crores, 15 years ago. And it’s a Gen Z cult film. In fact, when you ask which movie I should make a part two to, they write Tees Maar Khan. Kajol stop making that face! Ask your son, he’ll love it.”

Twinkle chimed in and said, “An early bird that eats the worm did tell me that there are some talks about Tees Maar Khan part two.” Hearing this, an excited Ananya asked, “Can I be in it?” To this, Farah replied, “Yeah, you can be in it. You can be Katrina’s younger sister.” Kajol then joked, “Sheila… you’ll be Leela Ki Jawani.” Meanwhile, Farah joked, “Susheela Ki Jawani also you can be.”

Can you imagine Ananya Panday as Katrina Kaif’s onscreen sister in Tees Maar Khan 2? We wonder what role Akshay Kumar will play this time.

On October 31, PEOPLE published an exclusive report asserting that Slaton and Lovvorn wed in a “spooky wedding celebration” on that same date. Furthermore, their wedding reportedly took place at the Talbot Tavern in Bardstown, Kentucky. Per the outlet, the venue is rumored to be haunted.

“My wedding is a dream finally coming true,” Slaton reportedly told the outlet. “I’m getting my happily ever after!”

PEOPLE adds that the theme of the couple’s wedding was “Victorian meets light gray meets dusty blue and white.” Furthermore, for the special occasion, Slaton dyed her hair pink, per her now-husband’s request, and she donned a “Victorian style updo.” Additionally, her gown featured flower and vine beading details.

“Getting married means that I’m no longer lonely because I’ve discovered my soulmate, Brian, is my happy place! Once you get to know him, you’ll find him to be the sweetest, most caring person you’ll ever have the pleasure of knowing! Not only did he capture my heart, but he also won over my boys, and not many men out there will accept a single mom with two energetic boys!” she told the outlet. “I adore how he inspires me to be a better version of myself! How he prioritizes my well-being and that of my boys, selflessly putting our needs before his own! He is always enthusiastic about exploring new horizons with us or simply enjoying quality time indoors, playing games with the boys!”

To note, Slaton shares two sons, Gage, 4, and Glenn, 3, with her ex-husband, Michael Halterman.

Before Getting Married, Here’s What Was Going Down With ‘1,000-Lb. Sisters’ Star Amy Slaton

As The Shade Room previously reported, in March 2023, Michael Halterman filed for divorce from Amy Slaton. At the time, the pair had been married for about four years. Then, in September 2024, Slaton and Brian Lovvorn were visiting a zoo, apparently with children, when a camel bite left the pair facing possession and child endangerment charges.

By the winter of that year, Lovvorn reportedly proposed to Slaton — keeping with their haunted theme and getting down on one knee inside of a haunted house, per PEOPLE.

“Our engagement life may be short, but our marriage will last an eternity!” she reportedly said at the time.

Luke Bryan rubbishes ‘misinformation’ surrounding sister’s death

by jummy84 October 30, 2025

30 October 2025

Luke Bryan has rubbished the “misinformation” that surrounds his sister’s death.

Luke Bryan has dispelled some online theories

The 49-year-old singer’s sister, Kelly Bryan Cheshire, passed away in 2007, aged 39, and Luke is keen to dispel some of the rumours that surrounded her death.

During an appearance on the All There Is podcast, he shared: “I never really explained what happened to my sister, there’s some misinformation out there on the internet and I think some people wonder what happened and they think that we’ve tried to cover it up.

“There is a very, very small percentage of people who die for no reason – and it’s called sudden death syndrome and that’s essentially what they described my sister’s death as.”

Luke described his sister’s passing as being “tragic beyond words”.

He explained: “She was in her home doing her laundry and it was like somebody turned the switch off on her and it was just tragic beyond words.”

Luke’s older brother, Chris Bryan, died in a vehicle collision in 1996. However, he admitted that losing his sister was a different experience.

He said: “My brother, you can conceptualise a car accident, but you can’t really conceptualise someone that was healthy as a horse and she’s just gone.”

Meanwhile, Luke has heaped praise on his wife Caroline, observing that she’s helped him to navigate some of the most difficult times in his life.

The singer – who has sons Thomas, 17, and Tate, 15, with Caroline – said: “I don’t know anybody that could have done what she’s done.

“I mean, she goes into life thinking she’s marrying a country music singer, and then next thing you know, she’s helping the girls and the boys and still putting up with my antics.

“It’s been an amazing journey. And it wouldn’t, you know it couldn’t have gone on without walking in that bar [Dingus MaGee’s] at Georgia Southern.”

Luke explained that Caroline had faced her own challenges, too.

He shared: “She lost — her brother and [sister-in-law] lost a young seven-month-old baby [Brett]. And we’ve had to watch them deal with grief, losing a seven month old, very close to us and we love them.”

Ishitta Arun: Piyush mama would have been concerned if his sisters slipped into sadness

by jummy84 October 27, 2025
written by jummy84

Actor Ishitta Arun, on Sunday took to Instagram after she and her family were trolled for smiling at the funeral of uncle and veteran adman Piyush Pandey. She posted, “Grief isn’t a single script. And when you’re saying goodbye to a man who laughed louder than anyone else, remembering him through laughter isn’t disrespect. It’s continuity. It’s muscle memory. It’s knowing who he really was. What you saw was us laughing at his line- a line only he could deliver. If you had known him, even in passing, you wouldn’t have needed this explained.” She added, “We don’t stage grief. We don’t mute memory to make strangers comfortable. We remember him honestly- as laughter, courage, and life itself. Next time-know the story before you comment on the moment.”

Prasoon Pandey, Ishitta Arun, Ila Arun and Dhruv Ghanekar

Speaking to HT city about the incident she says, “As a society, we tend to attach emotions to certain prescribed behaviours. If you’re not crying, then you must not be grieving. If you don’t display something a certain way, then you must not be feeling it. This comes from a deeply ingrained, and often unexamined, mentality — one that is far more common across our cultural landscape than we like to admit. It isn’t limited to grief. It shows up in many aspects of Indian social conditioning. The simplest expression of it has always been, ‘Log kya kahenge?’ these are those very 4 log.”

Ishitta says her concern isn’t the trolls themselves – their opinions are irrelevant. What troubles her is what they represent. She says, “Social media hasn’t created this mindset, it has simply made it more visible. Earlier, the same commentary happened within drawing rooms and family circles – now it is just typed out loud The constant policing of how to sit, how to speak, how to feel — the quiet, everyday judgement that shapes how so many people move through the world.”

Sharing memories from the funeral she reminisces, “When we bid him goodbye, we sang Mile Sur Mera Tumhara – we cheered for mama, and we promised each other that the next time we gather, it will be in a better, lighter setting. He was always the life of the party, and that spirit stayed with us. All of us, in our own way, could hear his commentary in our heads – that familiar tone. Some of the things we did, he would have looked at and said, ‘Bakwas hai.’ And that made us smile through the heaviness. He would also have been the first to worry about his elder sisters – all in their seventies now – and whether they would slip into sadness. I’m genuinely glad that my aunts and my mother dressed up, showed up, and held themselves with dignity. That is not vanity, that is health. That is continuity. And they are allowed that grace. There are far more real things to focus on than how grief should look.” While describing the family’s bond she quotes Piyush’s iconic line, “As for our family -Fevicol ka jod hai. Tootega nahi.”

“I’m not affected by commentary or trolling – I’ve been in the public eye long enough. Comment on my work, my performance, my choices – that belongs to the professional space and I accept it. But this is not that. This is not work. This is family. And how we honour someone we love does not require explanation to anyone. If that makes someone uncomfortable, they are welcome to sit with their discomfort – we are not hosting it, ” she signs off.

Lazarus ending explained | What does Joel find out about his father and sister’s deaths?

by jummy84 October 22, 2025
written by jummy84

*Warning: This article contains spoilers for the final episode of Lazarus.*

After receiving the tragic news that his father (Bill Nighy) had died by suicide, Joel “Laz” Lazarus (Sam Claflin) not only started to obsess over what really happened to his esteemed dad, but also started to literally live through his memories.

The six-part series follows Laz as he struggles to make sense of the events leading up to his father’s death, with all manner of supernatural happenings unfolding once Laz steps foot in his father’s office.

Getting a better idea of his father’s clients and his way of working with them, Laz thought he found the guy who could’ve murdered Dr L in the form of serial killer and former client Arlo Jones (Jack Deam). But one mention of another character by Arlo puts Laz further down the path for answers.

So, what happened to Joel’s father? Read on to find out what unfolded in the final episode of Prime Video’s Lazarus.

Lazarus ending explained: What does Laz find out about his father’s death?

David Fynn as Seth McGovern and Kate Ashfield as Detective Alison Brown in Lazarus. Prime Video

Laz is convinced that something untoward had happened to his father, floating around the theory that he could’ve been murdered. When Laz thinks he’s found all the clues leading back to serial killer Arlo Jones, Arlo actually drops a name that Laz wasn’t expecting: Detective Alison Brown (Kate Ashfield).

Knowing that Alison is Seth’s (David Fynn) boss, Laz takes the information he’s gathered so far on her to him in confidence. He’s found clear lies that she’s told him, such as Alison lying that she knew anything about a cold-case that Laz had information about. In reality, she had actually been the lead detective on the case. Immediately suspicious of her, Laz tells Seth what he’s found and Seth is initially trepidatious to confront his boss, with the pair even getting into a physical altercation. But when he reads the files, the next thing we see is them both waiting to meet Alison.

Laz informs her that both cases of Arlo and murdered Imogen Carswood (Virge Gilchrist) have links to his father, with Arlo being a patient and Imogen being Dr L’s lover. They weren’t the only ones, with Laz explaining that Father Frank (Keith Bartlett) made a video before his death stating his innocence and said that the real killer is still at large. The very video was never released or seen by anyone but was apparently given to Alison.

Laz says that he thinks that Alison was seeking out vulnerable people at Dr L’s practice and scapegoating them for violent crimes, eventually getting into a heated confrontation with Dr L over it and killing him.

When Alison asks Seth to go and get her a glass of water, we don’t see the conversation that unfolds between her and Laz but we do see her knock Laz over then run over and tase Seth. Laz chases her in his car and then it turns to on-foot after she crashes her car. Alison runs out into a road and trips over a bike, but is then run over by an oncoming bus and killed.

Afterwards, we see Laz remembering his final interaction with Alison where she tells Laz to let everything go and presents a cassette tape. At the crime scene, he picked up said tape from her pocket and takes it for himself.

Elsewhere, we see Aidan going to visit Laura (Roisin Gallagher) to speak to her about his father, Laz. He talks about secrets and promises, but we don’t see the extent of their meeting.

Laz returns to his father’s office with the tape and starts to play it, surprised to hear Alison confronting Dr L on it. The scene plays out before us and we see a stressed Alison confronting Dr L about what they’ve done. She feels guilty but Dr L explains that there’s no need to feel guilty, labelling it as a “useless emotion”.

It becomes clear that for years, the pair of them played the system for their own benefits. Dr L believed these patients were violent individuals and as a way of imprisoning them, got Alison to link them to crimes they hadn’t committed.

Alison got lots of awards and acclaim but saw the light and no longer agrees with Dr L’s way of working. She confronts Dr L about his murder of Imogen, which he doesn’t deny and instead, says he loved her but killed her to “end her suffering”. Alison realises that the information that Dr L has been giving her is not only untrue, but only as a way of deflecting attention away from him and his own crimes.

Alison says that she can’t just let all of this go, with it becoming clear that Alison has already arrived with a plan in mind. She hands Dr L a gun, telling him what he could write a suicide note and offering it up as a solution where his secrets die with him. While he does hold up the gun and point it at Alison, he’s unable to pull the trigger and resolves himself to her proposed plan.

He has a vision of Sutton and wonders whether he’ll see her in an afterlife, appearing to make peace with the impromptu suicide plot. While Alison says that she wishes there was another way to end this, Dr L says that there isn’t and asks to be alone. He calls Joel but we see Joel reject the call whilst working so Dr L writes a note and then shoots himself.

In the present, Laz is visited by the ghost of his father and confronts him about his murders. Dr L states that Alison killed him and seems to double down on his own crimes, talking about the ways in which his violent crimes “saved” them. They then share a heart-to-heart about their love for each other, with Dr L saying that there’s always the fear that sons will end up like their fathers. He then says goodbye to Laz for what appears to be the final time.

In a montage of scenes, we see how things have ended up for all the characters who appear resolved but stony faced in their decisions. Laz shows his father’s suicide note to his sister Jenna (Alexandra Roach) and proclaims that it’s over, appearing somewhat lighter as he makes his way to go and see Laura.

Has Laz been imagining things all along?

Sam Claflin as Joel Lazarus in Lazarus holding a file and looking out of a window, with a confused expression.

Once Laz leaves the house, Jenna finds multiple boxes of tapes of their father’s in Laz’s room. It’s clear that he’s been listening to them all, with Jenna listening to the tapes of Arlo, Cassandra and more.

So, that begs the question of whether or not everything he had been experiencing had just been in his head all along.

While we know that Laz has obviously been imagining these meetings with his father and former patients, it becomes more apparent that perhaps he’s just been holed up in his room listening to the tapes rather than going to Dr L’s office.

What happens at the end with Laz and Aidan?

Sam Claflin as Joel Lazarus in Lazarus.

Making his way to Laura’s home, we then see Laz approaching her house and finding her door unlocked. Once inside, he doesn’t hear Laura after he calls out for her and looks for her.

When he reaches her living room, he sees things looking like an altercation has unfolded and it’s clear something has happened. When he turns around, he sees Aidan standing in the doorway with a curved knife in his hand, looking blankly back at Laz before saying “I’m sorry”.

So, it’s clear that Aidan has attacked Laura but in terms of whether she’s alive or not, that’s left on a cliffhanger.

Jill Duggar, Sisters Reunite With Mom Michelle Duggar: Rare Photo

Jessa Duggar (m. Ben Seewald)

Jim Bob and Michelle’s fifth child, Jessa Duggar, was born Nov. 4, 1992.

Jessa met Ben through church and he began courting her in 2013—the old-fashioned approach to romance coming as a brand-new notion to a lot of viewers. The kids never talked about their romances pre-engagement, so Jim Bob explained to People, “Courting is getting to know each other in a group setting, both families spending time together and the couple setting goals together to determine if they are meant to marry. With dating, a couple will often pair off alone and that sometimes leads to a more physical relationship.”

Ben asked for Jessa’s hand and then proposed in August 2014—sealing the deal by holding her hand for the first time. They married on Nov. 1, 2014. Jessa was pregnant with their first child when 19 Kids and Counting was canceled and TLC subsequently aired a special about sexual abuse, featuring Jill and Jessa, to further educate viewers on the subject. The sisters would end up the stars of their own show, Jill and Jessa: Counting On, that winter; the show then evolved to become Counting On, featuring other Duggar siblings as well.

Meanwhile, Jessa and Ben welcomed son Spurgeon on Nov. 5, 2015, son Henry on Feb. 6, 2017, daughter Ivy Jane on May 28, 2019 and daughter Fern in July 2021. In February 2023, Jessa shared that she suffered a miscarriage over the 2022 holiday season. She gave birth to son George in December 2023.

In August 2025, Jessa announced the birth of son Edward.

“All according to plan.” Hulu has revealed an official trailer for the anime series Cat’s Eye, an adaptation of the 1980s manga of the same name (CAT’S♥EYE). The same manga has turned into other series before, including a live-action TV series in France. Now it’s being made into proper modern anime and will debut on Hulu in the US later this month. By day, Hitomi, Rui, and Ai run a cafe called “Cat’s Eye”, but by night these three sisters work as a trio of thieves working to recover their father’s stolen art collection. Balancing their double lives becomes even more difficult as they are relentlessly investigated by Detective Toshio — who doesn’t know his girlfriend is one of the thieves he’s pursuing. Yoshifumi Sueda directs the series, with Yosuke Yabumoto as character designer & animation director, Hayashi Mori as series writer, and Yuki Hayashi on the music. The voice cast includes Mikako Komatsu as Hitomi, Ami Koshimizu as Rui, Yumiri Hanamori as Ai, Takuya Sato as Toshio, Yoko Higasa, & Katsuyuki Knoishi. Looks like amusing fun, following these 3 as they outsmart the authorities stealing back their father’s art around world.

Hitomi, Rui and Ai are three sisters with a secret. By day, they run the popular Cat’s Eye Café; by night, they slip into the shadows, executing high-stakes art heists with precision and style. Since its manga debut in 1981, Cat’s Eye has developed a global fandom, with the upcoming series sure to deliver on everything fans have come to love from this fun story: thrilling action, high stakes heists, along with the impossibly complex relationship between Hitomi and her partner Detective Toshio — the man sworn to catch these infamous thieves. Cat’s Eye, originally known as キャッツ・アイ in Japanese, is an anime series directed by Japanese animation filmmaker Yoshifumi Sueda, director on the series “Rail Wars!”, “High School DxD”, “Z/X: Code Reunion”, and Sailor Moon Cosmos previously. With writing by Hayashi Mori; adapted from Tsukasa Hôjô’s manga series of the same name. Featuring music by Yûki Hayashi. Produced by Liden Films (Rurouni Kenshin 2023, Berserk). Visit the anime series’ official Japanese site. Disney will release Sueda’s Cat’s Eye series streaming on Hulu starting September 26th, 2025 coming soon. Who’s into this anime?
