Who Is Rosalia Singing About on ‘La Perla’?

by jummy84 November 7, 2025
written by jummy84

The soft guitar strums that open “La Perla” offer a contrast to the unapologetic lyrics that open the Lux standout. “Hello, peace stealer,” Rosalía sings, almost coyly, pointing to her target from the first line.

The string orchestra builds as Rosalía sings to a former lover — “a playboy,” “a narcissist,” “an enchanter” — who “spends money he has and doesn’t have,” and takes first place on the “podium of disillusion,” who’s earned a “monument to dishonesty.”

“The local disappointment, a national heartbreaker / An emotional terrorist, the biggest disaster in the world,” she sings. “He’s a pearl, no one trusts him / He’s a pearl, one to be very careful with.”

But who is the song about?

There seem to be two real possibilities for who “La Perla” might be about — but most fans think it’s Rauw Alejandro, the Puerto Rican heartthrob and reggaeton star, whom Rosalía dated from 2021 through 2023. Together, they released a collaborative project titled RR inspired by their love, and Rosalía even got a tattoo of his first name under her left breast. (She references the tattoo on “Focu ‘Ranni,” another Lux track, singing, “I have your name on my ribs, but your initials were never on my heart.”)

The breakup was chronicled all over the media and tabloids, and full of public displays and musical antics. Shortly after the breakup, Alejandro released a song titled “Hayami Hana” on which he insisted that infidelity was never the reason for their split, and poured out compliments for Rosalía. And then there was the 2023 Latin Grammys a few months later, where he took the stage — in Rosalía’s home country of Spain, no less — to perform a cover of Laura Pausini’s heartbreak song “Se Fue,” which compares the end of a relationship to a powerful storm that ruined him. “Her fairytale smile is gone / The sweet honey I tasted on her lips is gone,” he sang.

Trending Stories

But back to Rosalía’s “La Perla:: “After a powerful verse from Yahritza y Su Esencia‘s Yahritza about this mystery man’s need for a psychiatrist, Rosalía joins with a sing-songy, spoken line where she describes how her narcissistic ex would see being called an icon as a “reductionist narrative.” She then sings, “Loyalty and faithfulness/Are a language he’ll never understand/His masterpiece, his collection of bras.” Aside from Rauw Alejandro’s bra-catching skills at concerts, the reggaetonero even has a song with Daddy Yankee titled “Panties y Brasieres” on his album Saturno.

Editor’s picks

Rauw may be the obvious answer, but if you ask any Rosalía love-life connoisseur, the other possible subject of the song could be The Bear actor Jeremy Allen White. The two of them sparked dating rumors after being spotted together in the year following her breakup with Alejandro. White wore a rose brooch at the Critics’ Choice Awards in January 2024, which many fans took as a nod to the singer. However, they seemed to split later in the year as Allen retreated from public view to play Bruce Springsteen in the biopic Deliver Me From Nowhere. We have no information about White’s bra collection, though.

Bonkers Trailer for ‘Chainsaws Were Singing’ Estonian Horror Musical

“The blood-soaked musical of your dreams!” Dark Star Pictures has revealed the bonkers official US trailer for a wicked crazy, one-of-a-kind, indie horror creation called Chainsaw Were Singing from Estonian filmmaker Sander Maran (who did all the VFX & SFX in addition to directing). Yes, indeed, this is a horror musical riff on Texas Chain Saw Massacre and other slashers. “Nearly 10 years in the making, this bastard child of Stephen Sondheim and Lloyd Kaufman is an utterly indescribable Estonian odyssey.” It premiered at many genre film festivals in 2024, including at Fantasia & Fantastic Fest, and it will be out on VOD in the US this November. A zany, gonzo, blood-soaked musical about lovers split up by a chainsaw-wielding killer. Over a decade in the making, this colorful murder-fest is part gory horror movie + part ridiculous musical. Along the way, they encounter some trigger-happy, pastry-loving cops, a helpful little hedgehog, a shitload of exploding cars + a cult that worships a talking fridge full of nauseating contents. Starring Karl-Joosep Ilves, Laura Niils, Janno Puusepp, Martin Ruus, Rita Rätsepp. It’s described as “Texas Chainsaw Massacre meets Monty Python in [an] award-winning wacky Cannibal Musical.” Looks like a blast! Ahaha.

Here’s the official US trailer for Sander Maran’s horror film Chainsaws Were Singing, from YouTube:

Chainsaws Were Singing Poster

Via Fantastic Fest: “Maria is having one of the worst days of her life. Her parents died. Her dog, too. She was fired from her job. She was beaten by thugs in the street. But all of her troubles melt away when she locks eyes with Tom in the midst of his suicide attempt. Soon, the gobsmacked young lovers are hand-in-hand, bounding across sun-dappled meadows & expressing their undying love in song. Their courtship is cut short when a spree killer with a chainsaw and his own musical backstory takes Maria captive to feed his grotesque family of cannibals, consisting of his overbearing mother, artistically inclined little brother, and incestuous cousins Pepe and Kevin. Vowing to come to his lady’s rescue, Tom teams up with Jaan, a goodhearted, goofy passerby with nothing but time on his hands and a song in his heart. The two head deep into the woods, embarking on a madcap quest full of blood, guts, and toe-tapping show tunes.” 🎵 🩸

Chainsaws Were Singing, also known as Mootorsaed Laulsid in Estonian, is written & directed by Estonian filmmaker Sander Maran, making his feature directorial debut after many other short films. From a story by Sander Maran & Karl Ilves. Produced by Kaur Maran, Sander Maran, Karl-Joosep Ilves, Jan Andresson & Peeter Maran. This initially premiered at the 2024 Haapsalu Horror & Fantasy Film Festival in Estonia, and also at Fantasia and Fantastic Fest that year. Dark Star Pictures releases Maran’s Chainsaws Were Singing direct-to-VOD in the US starting on November 25th, 2025 coming soon this fall. Anyone want to watch?

Apple Martin Made Her Singing Debut at a Nashville Bar

by jummy84 October 21, 2025
written by jummy84

Apple Martin has opened up before about her love of singing, telling Interview that she’s involved in an on-campus cabaret group and adding, “I have a very low voice so whenever we’re doing harmonies it’ll be like, Alright, it’s the boys and Apple.” In the same conversation, she reflected on her choice to pursue a career in the public eye…or not. “It’s interesting because I grew up with that uneven balance of getting out of the airport with my mom and being bombarded with cameras, and then just being a normal kid,” she recalled, adding, “I don’t think we need another celebrity child in the world.”

These days, though, she says, “I just try to do what feels right and block out anything regarding me in the news to the best of my ability. And I’m getting a lot better at being like, Fuck it. I’m not going to be scared. I just want to do what seems fun and figure my life out.” A song with friends seems like just the right start.

‘You Should Be Ashamed’, Aneet Padda Trolled For Her Old Video of Singing And Rapping A Famous Urdu Poem

by jummy84 October 11, 2025

Aneet Padda, the rising star who made waves with her breakout film Saiyaara earlier this year, is now at the center of a social media controversy. An old video of the actress, showing her singing and rapping the famous Urdu poem Lab Pe Aati Hai Dua, has resurfaced online, triggering strong reactions from netizens. In the viral video, Aneet is seen performing the iconic prayer, Lab Pe Aati Hai Dua, a beloved children’s poem written by Muhammad Iqbal.

While the prayer is often recited in schools across the subcontinent, especially by young children, some social media users were quick to accuse the actress of mocking the Muslim community. They argued that her performance was disrespectful and rude. One user commented, “Is there a shortage of songs in the world, so why are you singing this?” Another added, “This is very bad. You should be ashamed.” Some critics even questioned her understanding of the poem’s meaning, suggesting that her actions were a result of ignorance.

However, Aneet’s supporters were quick to step in, defending her and clarifying the situation. Many fans pointed out that the actress was not mocking Muslims or the poem itself, but rather, simply having fun with the Bachche Ki Dua version, a poem that is widely sung by schoolchildren. One fan explained, “She’s not mocking Muslims. What Aneet and her friends are doing is rapping Muhammad Iqbal’s ‘Bachche Ki Dua,’ which is a type of prayer recited in most schools. There is no hate in her video.” Another wrote, “Don’t mislead, there’s no malice here. She was just having fun with a popular poem.”

Born in Amritsar, Punjab, in October 2002, Aneet Padda comes from a humble background and has been passionate about acting since her childhood. She earned a degree in Political Science from Jesus and Mary College, Delhi University, and attended Spring Dale Senior Secondary School before making her mark in Bollywood. Aneet made her film debut in 2022 with a small but praised role in the movie Salaam Venky, directed by Revathi. Despite the limited screen time, her performance garnered attention.

LeAnn Rimes Shares Health Update Months After Her Teeth Fell Out While Singing

by jummy84 October 8, 2025
written by jummy84

Singer and actress LeAnne Rimes has admitted she kept her health issues hidden for years, though she is now much more open with her struggles, including the moment her teeth fell out mid-performance back in June.

Speaking to Us Weekly ahead of her new ABC series 9-1-1: Nashville, which premieres on Thursday (October 9), Rimes confessed, “For so long, it did feel like I was hiding so much of myself. It did allow for the insecurity of thoughts I’ve had in the past about ‘I’m not pretty, I’m not good enough.’”

However, she said she eventually learned “how to love myself through all of my different incarnations.”

In recent years, Rimes has opened up about her mental health and battles with psoriasis, the latter of which she revealed publicly in 2020.

“I remember when I posted the picture of me with psoriasis all over me, and it was such a moment of relief because I had been hiding that for so long,” she told the outlet. “The same with my mental health and now with perimenopause. Every time I talk about it, I set myself — and someone else — free.”

According to the Mayo Clinic, “Psoriasis is a skin disease that causes a rash with itchy, scaly patches, most commonly on the knees, elbows, trunk and scalp” and is “a common, long-term disease with no cure.”

As for how she’s doing now, the “Can’t Fight The Moonlight” singer said, “I feel great. My physical health has been something I’ve focused on the past few years, and preparing my body for the changes it’s going through.”

Disney/Jake Giles Netter

While she feels good, Rimes noted, “Going through perimenopause is no joke. But for the most part, I feel really good in my body.”

Alongside the physical struggles, Rimes said there is also a “grief” that comes with perimenopause. “[It’s] not just about not making eggs anymore. That’s a biological piece of us changing. It’s such a deepening of the soul and allowing pieces of us that no longer serve us to fall away.”

She added, “It is such a transformational and beautiful part of life if we know what’s going on with our bodies.”

Rimes’ openness about her health was best exemplified back in June when her dental bridge fell out while she was performing at the Skagit Valley Casino & Resort in Bow, Washington. The Coyote Ugly star told the audience exactly what was happening and later opened up about the situation with her social media followers.

“I you’ve been around, you know I’ve had a lot of dental surgeries, and I have a bridge in the front,” Rimes said in a TikTok video, referring to her years of oral surgeries after her veneers didn’t bond properly. “It fell out in the middle of my song last night.”

She revealed she told the fans in attendance “exactly what was happening” and was “pushing her teeth” back in every couple of lines for the rest of the performance. “There wasn’t a thing I could do about it except either walk off or just hold my teeth in. So, I just ran with it,” she added.

Rimes makes her return to acting in 9-1-1: Nashville, which debuts on Thursday. In the 9-1-1 spinoff, Rimes plays Dixie Bennings, the mother of Hunter McVey‘s bad boy, Blue Bennings.

Shailene Woodley opens up about feeling “vulnerable” singing in upcoming Janis Joplin biopic

by jummy84 October 5, 2025

Shailene Woodley has opened up about feeling “vulnerable” doing vocals for the upcoming biopic Janis Joplin: Get It While You Can.

As was announced last year, Woodley is set to star in and produce a film charting the life of Joplin, who died at age 27 in 1970 from a heroin overdose. She was a singular force in the psychedelic rock scene, with the bluesy grit to her voice making her a standout.

With pre-production on the long-gestating project ongoing, Woodley has now told People that singing for the role was one of the hardest elements of stepping into Joplin’s shoes.

“Singing is very scary. It’s very vulnerable,” she admitted.

She is working alongside 4 Non Blondes’ Linda Perry on the feature, and has described her as “an incredible songwriter, singer and music producer”.

Speaking to EW last September, Perry said she was thrilled to see Joplin’s story brought to the screen after “waiting decades for this movie to be made”. She also described Woodley’s “emotional commitment and dedication” to the role as inspiring, saying she “lives for the art”.

“I can’t think of a better person to portray such a powerful, emotional, and complex artist,” she added.

As for embodying Joplin’s style, Woodley has also told Jimmy Fallon that they were given access to clothes from the era for the film, saying, “We have the outfits. Everything.”

The long-awaited feature received $2.49 million in funding from the California Film Commission, and Woodley said in a statement that it was significant given California “meant so much” to Joplin.

“I have a feeling Janis would be smiling ear to ear, zipping down the PCH in her psychedelic Porsche, knowing her story is bringing opportunities and funding to the city and people that held so much significance to her.”

There have been several attempts made to develop a biopic about the legendary singer previously, with Amy Adams, Zooey Deschanel, Pink and Melissa Etheridge among those attached at one point to play Joplin in films that never got to production.

Back in 2023, Margot Robbie also expressed an interest in portraying the rock star, telling NME: “I think everyone has been trying to do a Janis Joplin [movie] for a long time.”

At the time of writing, Janis Joplin: Get It While You Can has not yet been given an official release date.

Aryan Khan Surprises Diljit Dosanjh, Fans With Singing, Guitar Skills For The Bads Of Bollywood

by jummy84 September 13, 2025
written by jummy84

Aryan Khan, son of Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, is set to make a powerful debut — not in front of the camera like his sister Suhana Khan, but behind it. He marks his directorial entry with the upcoming Netflix web series The Bads of Bollywood, and the buzz around it has only grown stronger with each teaser and song release.

One of the highlights leading up to the release has been the track Tenu Ki Pata, a collaboration between Aryan and Punjabi sensation Diljit Dosanjh. A behind-the-scenes video, shared by Shah Rukh himself, shows Aryan working closely with Diljit on the song. In the clip, SRK can be heard joking with Aryan, saying he’ll get famous now thanks to working with Diljit.

The surprise element? Aryan not only directed but also showcased his musical talent. He plays the guitar and even sings — something that caught Diljit off guard. In response to SRK’s tweet, Diljit praised Aryan, calling him “pyara” and revealing that Aryan’s musical abilities were shockingly impressive. “He knows every single note of the song,” said Diljit, adding, “God bless him. Respect.”

This unexpected musical side of Aryan has left fans in awe and heightened the anticipation for The Bads of Bollywood. The internet is buzzing with excitement, especially after learning that Aryan can sing so well.

The series features Kill star Lakshya, Sahher Bambba, and Bobby Deol in lead roles, with special appearances by Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan, Ranveer Singh, Disha Patani, and more.

Set to premiere on September 18, The Bads of Bollywood is shaping up to be one of the most awaited releases on Netflix this year.

'The Virginian' Singing Ranch Hand Was 83

‘The Virginian’ Singing Ranch Hand Was 83

by jummy84 September 1, 2025
written by jummy84

Randy Boone, who played the guitar-strumming singing ranch hand Randy Benton on the classic NBC western The Virginian, died Thursday, August 28. He was 83.

His death was reported to The Hollywood Reporter by his wife Lana. Additional details were not disclosed.

Born Clyde Wilson Randall Boone Jr. on January 17, 1942, in Fayetteville, North Carolina, Boone later attended North Carolina State College in Raleigh before dropping out and hitchhiking to California to try his hand as an actor. His first gig was a 19-episode run on 1962’s comedy-drama It’s A Man’s World about three young men living in a houseboat on the Ohio River. A costar was future That Girl actor Ted Bessell.

With Man’s World canceled after just four months, Boone was a guest star in such series as The Alfred Hitchcock Hour, Wagon Train, The Fugitive and The Twilight Zone (in the memorable 1963 episode “The 7th Is Made Up of Phantoms,” he played a National Guardsman sent back in time to the Battle of the Little Bighorn), all before landing his 70-episode 1964-66 stint on The Virginian.

The Virginian starred Doug McClure and James Drury, who died in 1995 and 2020, respectively.

Boone later said that he was fired by producer Frank Price. “I was told that [Price] thought I was window dressing and wasn’t needed on the show, but I feel that I was needed as much as anybody.”

Price died just last week, three days before Boone.

Following his two-season stint on the long-running The Virginian, Boone starred from 1967-68 on the CBS Western series Cimarron Strip alongside Stuart Whitman, Percy Herbert and Jill Townsend. He made episodic guest appearances well into the 1980s on such shows as Lassie, Emergency!, Kolchak: The Night Stalker, Gunsmoke, Kung Fu, and Highway To Heaven, among others.

On the film side, Boone starred in the 1966’s Country Boy, about a rising young country musician.

Boone left acting in the late 1980s and, according to THR, worked in construction until his retirement. Complete information on survivors was not immediately available.
