Anup Soni On Why He Left Balika Vadhu

When asked if stretching any show impacts the viewership of the audience, Anup Soni shared, “Bilkul hoti hai na? Aur maza khatam ho jaata hai. Bhai, koi bhi writer ya koi bhi maker jab koi kahani likhta hai, to aapko lagta hai woh 2000 episodes dimaag mein rakh ke likhta hai? Woh 100–200 episodes likhega, 300 likh lega, 400 likh lega… ek saal bhar ka content to likh hi lega woh, plan kar lega. Ek track ke aage koi ek saal se zyada ka plan nahi karta. Ek saal ke baad to woh bhi yahi sochta hai — ‘Yaar, dekhte hain chalta hai ki nahi chalta’”.

He continued, “Toh Balika Vadhu mein bhi, aur Balika Vadhu jab maine chhoda tha, to maine sirf ek hi baat pe chhoda tha — ki mere kirdaar ke paas kuch karne ko hai hi nahi. Aur yeh baat maine teesre saal ke khatam hone ke baad hi bol di thi makers ko. Lekin maine chautha saal bhi kiya. Kyun? Kyunki unhone kaha, ‘Sir, thoda aur wait karte hain, haan karenge sir aapke character ke liye.’ Chautha saal nikal gaya. Maine kaha, ‘Dekho bhai, thoda bahut hua lekin mujhe lag raha hai ki hum neeche hi ja rahe hain. Mere paas aur kuch nahi bacha karne ko.’”

The actor concluded, “Main aapse yeh nahi keh raha hoon ki main aapse demand kar raha hoon, right? Aap mujhe thank you bol do, bye-bye bol do. Kyunki aap bhi kyu change karoge apni kahani meri wajah se? Mat karo apni kahani change. Lekin aap meri plight samajh jaoge, kyunki mere paas as an actor karne ko kuch nahi bacha hai. Ab finally jaake unhone bhi kaha ki ‘haan, theek hai.’ Lekin tab bhi unhone mere kirdaar ko maara nahi, kahani mein bas bahar bhej diya.”

In a recent interview with Navbharat Times, the former cricketer and television personality spoke candidly about his struggles, his admiration for Kapil Sharma, and a memorable encounter with former U.S. President George W. Bush.

Reflecting on his journey, Sidhu shared how pursuing one’s passion often comes with challenges. “Following your passion isn’t easy. Parents and society rarely encourage it. The biggest disease in the world is ‘what will people say.’ Talent needs a platform and without opportunity, it means nothing. Kapil Sharma, for example, used to work for ₹100 at Bhullar’s theatre society. Then, when he first appeared on TV in 2006, he had no hair, a potbelly, and looked like a 45-year-old. But when he performed on a bigger platform, his talent shone. In the IPL, people also become stars overnight because they get a bigger platform.”

Sidhu’s one-liners have always been quite loved. In fact, his quotes have been termed as Sidhuism by fans, and this tag also seemed to fascinate former US president George Bush. Recalling how Bush wanted to meet him after learning about Sidhuism, Navjot Singh Sidhu shared, “When I was in the BJP, Sardar Manmohan Singh invited me to dinner. His PA called and told me that George Bush was coming and asked what Sidhuism was. He was told that whatever this man says becomes Sidhuism. So he said, ‘I want to meet him.’ When I went, he asked me to quote a quote on positivity. I said, ‘Keep your face towards the sun so you never have to see your shadow.’ He laughed, but I didn’t plan these things. I just speak from the heart, and people connect with it.”

Kapil is one of India’s most celebrated comedians and television personalities. He first gained national attention after winning The Great Indian Laughter Challenge in 2007, which opened doors to a flourishing career in entertainment. His sharp wit, relatable humour, and impeccable timing helped him create Comedy Nights with Kapil in 2013, a show that became a cultural phenomenon and made him a household name.

Let’s wait for the court’s verdict,” he added.

She refused to leave until the divorce was settled. I had a meeting, so I asked my brother to talk to her. When I returned, I realized the situation had escalated.” Meanwhile, Jyoti Singh took to Instagram to appeal directly to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. In her emotional post, she wrote, “Chief Minister, your government promotes ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao,’ but your police insult women like me. Is it a crime for a wife to visit her husband’s home? In the video – which is now going viral, Jyoti Singh is seen crying as she states that she has been denied entry to Pawan Singh’s house. The police officers present in the video are seen asking her to accompany them to the police station as both parties have filed allegations against each other, amid their ongoing legal battle. In the clip, Jyoti is also seen talking about why she has not filed any domestic violence case.

Jyoti is also seen threathening to consume poison in the presence of the police officers. She’s heard saying, “Aaj main sirf samaj ke kehne par yahan aayi thi, bas yeh din dekhne ke liye. Agar abhi bhi insaaf nahin mila to koi umeed nahin hai. Main ghar mein zehar kha kar mar jaungi; iss ghar se meri laash jaayegi. Yeh last baar hai jo main keh rahi hoon. Main ek shareef ghar ki beti hoon, ek shareef ghar ki bahu hoon. Agar mujhe police station jaana pad raha hai, to main yahin se zehar kha kar nikal lungi. Bas, bohot ho gaya. Insaaf dijiye mujhe.”

During the Instagram Live – which is now posted on her Instagram page, Jyoti Singh also claimed Pawan cheated on her. She’s heard saying, “Yeh samaj ki seva karenge? Yeh Pawan ji seva karenge jo apni patni ko nikalne ke liye police bula rahe hain? Chunav ke dauraan apni patni ka istemal kiya, aur phir doosri ladkiyon ko lekar hotel gaye. Sab poochte the na ki chunav ke baad main kyun aa gayi? Kyunki chunav ke 20 din baad Pawan ji hamare saamne ek ladki ko lekar hotel gaye the. Hum ek patni hoke yeh bardaasht nahin kar sakte the, isiliye hum chale gaye. Aur ab yeh Pawan ji insaaf karenge?”

Pawan-Jyoti Divorce Case

Pawan Singh filed for divorce in the Ara Family Court in 2022 and has reportedly missed several court hearings, which has further disrupted Jyoti’s life. While Jyoti initially demanded Rs 5 lakh in monthly maintenance, she emphasises that more than money or property, she simply wishes to communicate with her husband.

Pawan Singh, who currently features on MX Player’s reality show Rise And Fall, hasn’t responded to his wife’s allegations.

“Toxic Masculinity Is a Reality” – Pankaj Kapur on Shahid Kapoor’s Kabir Singh

In a recent interview with Lallantop, veteran actor Pankaj Kapur offered his perspective on his son Shahid Kapoor’s commercially successful yet controversial film, Kabir Singh. He expressed that the film merely reflected a pre-existing societal reality rather than glorifying toxic masculinity. He also praised Shahid’s evolution as an actor, emphasizing his notable performances in films such as Haider, Farzi, and Kabir Singh, while also sharing insights into Shahid’s development as a dramatic performer.

 

In response to the criticism that the film promotes toxic behaviour, he said, “He has done good work in Kabir Singh as well. That’s okay, because toxic masculinity exists in society. Just because a film portrays it doesn’t mean it’s glorifying it. This is more about our own perspective. Films show the world as it is, not as we wish it to be. Kabir Singh depicted a flawed man, which is what makes the story compelling.” He highlighted that this kind of story encourages important discussions regarding the intricacies of human nature.

Considering Shahid’s acting career, Pankaj said that his son’s genuine talent truly blossomed with Vishal Bhardwaj’s Haider in 2014. He added, “For a long time, I told him and others that his strength lay in drama, which hadn’t been fully explored. Until then, he was mostly cast in sweet boy roles. Vishal Bhardwaj unlocked that potential. Those films played a big part in shaping the actor Shahid would become. Shahid also became discerning about which projects to take on. He did brilliantly in Haider, and also in Farzi.”

Interestingly, Pankaj revealed that Shahid had received some formal training from him. He also spoke warmly of his other children, Sanah Kapur, who has been in a few films, and Ruhaan Kapoor, who is yet to make his debut. Describing his family’s dynamic, he mentioned that their home operates democratically, with his children making their own choices. He further added that there is no hierarchy in their home, and occasionally, his children even teach him things.
