Ariana Grande – Man Who Grabbed Singer on ‘Wicked: For Good’ Carpet Is Charged With “Public Nuisance” in Singapore

Singapore officials have charged the man who jumped a barricade and grabbed Ariana Grande during the “Wicked: For Good” red carpet event on Thursday. The incident, captured in multiple viral clips, shows 26-year-old Australian citizen Johnson Wen rushing toward the star, attempting to embrace her, and putting his arm around her. Grande appears stunned as her co-star Cynthia Erivo quickly intervenes, pulling Wen away with visible anger.

Wen — who posts on Instagram as @pyjamamann — was briefly detained following the confrontation. He later shared a message online saying, “@arianagrande @wickedmovie Dear Ariana Grande Thank You for letting me Jump on the Yellow Carpet with You.”

Authorities are treating the matter seriously. According to local court documents released Friday, Wen has been charged with “being a public nuisance.” If convicted, he faces up to three months in prison and a fine of as much as S$2,000 (approximately $1,540 USD). He is expected to return to court on Monday.

Wen has a history of similar disruptions. Videos on his Instagram account show him invading a Katy Perry show, a The Chainmakers concert, and several sporting events — including the 2023 FIFA World Cup Final — among many others.

The incident has sparked broad criticism, particularly given Grande’s past discussions about experiencing post-traumatic stress disorder following the May 2017 Manchester Arena bombing, which killed 22 people and injured hundreds.

Ariana Grande Accosted By Influencer At ‘Wicked: For Good’ Singapore Premiere

The Wicked: For Good press cycle has not been kind to Ariana Grande. The star was unable to make the movie premiere in São Paulo last week due to flight issues, and subsequently faced a wave of death threats from fans. Yesterday, she was walking the red carpet at the film’s Singapore premiere when she was accosted by the influencer who also stage-crashed Katy Perry in June.

Footage shows Pyjama Man, who has 10,000 followers on Instagram, jumping over a barricade and charging at the singer-actress, putting his arm around her and jumping up and down. Her costar Cynthia Erivo is famously very protective over her, and she intervened along with security to get the man off of Grande. The viral menace then posted the video to Instagram, writing, “@arianagrande @wickedmovie Dear Ariana Grande Thank You for letting me Jump on the Yellow Carpet with You.” He also made an Instagram Story saying he was free after being arrested.

Aside from the obvious fact that you shouldn’t put your hands on people, Grande is a particularly vulnerable victim considering the terrorist bombing at her Manchester concert in 2017 that left 22 dead.

Assaulting celebrities is unfortunately a trend as of late. Last month, Dua Lipa also endured an unwanted physical advance at her Los Angeles show that security prevented from going any further; Billie Eilish was grabbed and shoved at her Miami gig; an audience member rushed 2hollis onstage at his New York performance. Earlier this month in DC, Halsey was groped by a fan and security had to step in. Sad stuff.

Man Who Grabbed Ariana Grande in Singapore Charged in Court

A man who grabbed Ariana Grande at the Asian premiere of “Wicked: For Good” in Singapore on Thursday night has been charged in court.

According to BBC News, Johnson Wen — who was shown in a viral video jumping over a barricade and rushing at Grande on the red carpet as her co-star Cynthia Erivo jumped in to protect her — has now been charged with being a public nuisance in Singapore. If found guilty, Wen faces a fine of up to fined up to S$2000 ($1,540). Local media has reported that Wen intends to plead guilty.

The 26-year-old Australian, who goes by Pyjama Man on Instagram, often posts on social media about getting close to celebrities at events and premieres. He has previously found his way on stage at the concerts of Katy Perry, the Weeknd, the Chainsmokers and others. On his Instagram story on Thursday, Wen posted that he was “free after being arrested.”

Wen’s charging at Grande caused a social media uproar, with his post about rushing the red carpet — which is captioned “Dear Ariana Grande Thank You for letting me Jump on the Yellow Carpet with You” — flooded with disapproving comments. “Oh wow so you do this a lot… how aren’t you in jail?” one user commented, while another said: “There needs to be an action done against him as this is clearly a criminal offense.”

Grande, Erivo and the rest of the “Wicked: For Good” cast are currently embarking on a world tour to promote the musical film, which releases on Nov. 21. The next and final stop is in New York City on Monday.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has shared a detailed update regarding the repatriation of singer Zubeen Garg’s mortal remains, who tragically passed away in Singapore at the age of 52. Zubeen, one of Assam’s most beloved cultural icons, died on Friday while in Singapore to perform at the North East Festival.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), CM Sarma confirmed that Singaporean authorities have scheduled a post-mortem examination of the late singer. “We expect this to conclude by 2 PM SGT (11:30 AM IST). Thereafter, his mortal remains will be handed over to Indian authorities, and we shall begin the process of bringing him home,” the Chief Minister posted.

I am in constant touch with the High Commissioner of India H.E Dr Shilpak Ambule.

We are coordinating to ensure beloved Zubeen’s mortal remains return to Assam at the earliest. As soon as the process is firmed up, I will share an update. @HCI_Singapore

He further added that he is in regular contact with the Indian High Commissioner to Singapore, Dr. Shilpak Ambule, to ensure that the necessary formalities are completed swiftly. “I am in constant touch with the High Commissioner. We are coordinating to ensure beloved Zubeen’s mortal remains return to Assam at the earliest. As soon as the process is firmed up, I will share an update,” he assured.

Once the mortal remains arrive in India, they will be kept at Sarusajai Stadium in Guwahati. This will allow fans and admirers an opportunity to pay their last respects. “We hope to bring back Zubeen to Guwahati at the earliest. There will be an opportunity for the public to pay their last tributes at Sarusajai,” Sarma added. “Thousands of his admirers are waiting on the streets to have his last glimpse – we are doing our best to bring him back home soon.”

A Life and Voice That Touched Millions

Zubeen Garg had travelled to Singapore to participate in the North East Festival, a cultural event showcasing the region’s talent and heritage. He was scheduled to perform at the festival a day after his sudden demise. According to a statement by the festival organisers, the singer encountered breathing difficulties during a scuba diving session. He was immediately given CPR and rushed to Singapore General Hospital, where he was declared dead around 2:30 PM IST, despite all medical efforts.

His sudden passing has sent shockwaves across the Northeast and beyond. Known for his unmatched energy on stage, emotional depth in his songs, and deep connection with the Assamese identity, Zubeen Garg was more than just a singer — he was a symbol of cultural pride.

In an official statement, Chief Minister Sarma mourned Zubeen’s passing, calling it a loss that words cannot fully express. “Today Assam lost one of its favourite sons. He has gone too early. This was not an age to go,” he said. “His unique voice stirred the masses and created music that touched the hearts and souls of people from all walks of life. His voice had an unmatched ability to energise people and his music directly spoke to the minds and souls.”

The Chief Minister and his wife, Riniki Bhuyan Sarma, also visited Zubeen’s residence in Guwahati to personally offer their condolences to the grieving family. They met with the late singer’s wife, Garima Saikia Garg, and other family members. Sharing a moment from their visit on X, Sarma posted, “Riniki and I visited the residence of our beloved Zubeen in Guwahati to stand in solidarity with his family in this hour of grief.”

As Assam awaits the arrival of Zubeen Garg’s mortal remains, tributes continue to pour in from fans, fellow artists, and public figures across the nation. Streets in Guwahati and other parts of Assam are already filled with admirers holding vigils, singing his songs, and preparing to bid farewell to the man who shaped an era of music in the region.

Zubeen’s death marks the end of a chapter in Assamese cultural history, but his legacy will live on through his music, his message, and the love he inspired in millions.
