San Jose’s Not So Silent Night Abruptly Canceled

by jummy84 November 13, 2025
written by jummy84

This year was supposed to mark the return of Not So Silent Night, the once-annual modern rock event that went down in the Bay Area each winter holiday season from 1991 to 2019. But today Live 105, the radio station that’s hosted the big gig, announced that Not So Silent Night 2025 has been canceled. No further explanation was provided.

This year’s Not So Silent Night was scheduled for December 14, set to feature Sublime, Evanescence, Wet Leg, the Paradox, and Yellowcard. It would’ve also been the first Not So Silent Night since the broadcasting company Audacy relaunched Live 105 back in 2023; the popular alt-rock station endured a botched rebranding effort, including a pivot to adult hits, before Audacy brought it back to its usual alt-focused format.

“We know this is disappointing news, and we truly regret that we won’t be able to bring the show to you this year,” Live 105 wrote in their announcement.

written by jummy84

The trailer has debuted for Marta Bergman’s drama “L’enfant bélier” (The Silent Run) before it world premieres in International Competition at Cairo Film Festival.

The film centers on Sara and Adam who, with their two-year-old daughter, have entered Belgium illegally and are now trying to reach England. Crammed with other migrants in the back of a van, fear starts to overtake hope. Redouane, a police officer for 20 years, spends his nights chasing smugglers on Belgium’s busy motorway network. That night, as his team attempts to stop a van suspected of transporting migrants, everything changes.

The cast of the film, shot in French and Arabic, includes with Salim Kechiouche, Zbeida Belhajamor, Clara Toros and Abda Razak Alsweha.

The writers are Bergman, Camille Mol, Ely Chevillot and Sacha Ferbus.

The producers are Cassandre Warnauts and Jean-Yves Roubin for Frakas Productions, and Geneviève Lavoie and Richard Angers for Productions des Années Lumière.

International sales are being handled by B-Rated Intl. International distributors so far attached include Cineclub Internazionale (Italy), Destiny (France), O’Brother (Benelux) and Axia (Canada).

Born in Bucharest, Bergman first worked as a freelance journalist for print and television, before turning to documentary filmmaking. Her documentaires, which explore Romania and the Roma communities, include “Clejani Stories, Histoires, Povesti …,” “Happy Stay,” “One Day My Prince Will Come,” “Bucharest, Anonymous Faces,” and “The Ballad of the Snake, A Gypsy Story.”

In 2018, she directed her first fiction feature “Alone at My Wedding,” produced by Frakas Productions and shot between Belgium and Romania. It was selected at ACID in Cannes. “The Silent Run” is her second feature film.

Cardiologist explains how to recognise silent heart attack before it is too late

by jummy84 November 12, 2025

Silent heart attacks can be deadly if left untreated, as they might not receive prompt medical attention. If you’re concerned about silent heart attacks, Dr Bimal Chhajer, a cardiologist specialising in non-invasive cardiology, shared a blog about it on his website, Saaol.com, on June 5. It was titled, ‘Recognising pre-heart attack symptoms: what your body is telling you’. Also read | Bengaluru cardiologist warns of early heart disease, shares warning signs and preventive measures to protect your heart

According to him, heart disease is a leading cause of death worldwide, and a heart attack can be fatal if not treated promptly. Fortunately, the body often gives early warnings before a heart attack occurs.

Know your body’s warning signs

In the blog, the cardiologist wrote, “Recognising those pre-heart attack symptoms can help save lives by enabling timely medical intervention. Common heart attack symptoms include chest pain, pain radiating to the arms, neck, jaw, or back, shortness of breath, cold sweats, nausea, and lightheadedness. Never disregard symptoms like dizziness, bodily aches, exhaustion, or chest pain. Additionally, silent heart attack signs may be mild and go unnoticed, increasing the risk of future complications. Understanding these warning signs and adopting healthy lifestyle changes can help prevent heart disease and protect your heart’s health.”

As per the cardiologist, ‘a pre-heart attack’, also known as unstable angina, is a serious warning sign that the heart isn’t getting enough oxygen-rich blood: it occurs when the coronary arteries become narrowed or partially blocked due to the buildup of plaque.

Symptoms include: chest pain or pressure, shortness of breath, unusual fatigue, discomfort in the arms, neck, jaw, or back. These symptoms, as per the blog, can appear during rest or physical activity and may come and go. A pre-heart attack should never be ignored, as it can quickly lead to a full heart attack, he shared, adding that immediate medical care and lifestyle changes are crucial to prevent life-threatening damage.

The most dangerous aspect of a silent attack is that the lack of obvious symptoms prevents the person from seeking immediate medical help. (Made using Gemini AI)

Silent heart attack: the unnoticed danger

The cardiologist also said, “A silent heart attack occurs with little or no noticeable symptoms. Signs are mild or absent, which can lead to long-term heart damage. An impending heart attack shows warning signs like chest discomfort, shortness of breath, or extreme fatigue. Both are serious and require immediate attention. Early detection is crucial in preventing severe future cardiac events… being aware of pre-heart attack symptoms, impending, and silent heart attack signs is vital to prevent life-threatening events. Adopt a zero-oil diet, heamanage risk factors… listen to your body — early action today protects your heart tomorrow.”

“Santa’s gonna slay!” Oh dang! 🎅🪓 This looks gnarly. Cineverse has revealed the main official trailer for the modern remake of horror cult classic Silent Night, Deadly Night – which is coming to disturb your holiday season this year. “In 1984, one film shocked audiences, was banned from theaters, and traumatized a generation. From the studio that brought you Terrifier 3, comes a new, and unrated, vision of the cult classic. This Christmas, spread the holiday fear.” Not for everyone! A child witnesses his parents’ murder by a man in a Santa suit. Years later, now as an adult, he dons a Santa costume himself and embarks on a violent quest for retribution against those responsible for the traumatic event in his childhood… Written & directed by Mike P. Nelson, this horror stars Rohan Campbell, Ruby Modine, Mark Acheson, David Lawrence Brown, and David Tomlinson. This freaky film is already set for release in December later in the year. It definitely looks like you have to put the kids to bed before you even consider watching it! Brutal.

Here’s the official trailer (+ poster) for Mike P. Nelson’s horror Silent Night, Deadly Night, on YouTube:

A reimagining of the controversial 1984 cult horror classic (directed by Charles E. Sellier Jr) – When Billy witnesses his parents’ grisly murder on Christmas Eve at the hands of Santa, it ignites a lifelong mission to spread holiday fear. Every Christmas, he dons the jolly red suit and delivers a blood-soaked massacre to feed his twisted sense of justice. This Christmas Eve, Billy wants to know: “Have you been naughty?” 🎅 This new Silent Night, Deadly Night is both written and directed by American filmmaker Mike P. Nelson, a former sound mixer and director of the films Summer School, The Domestics, and Wrong Turn previously, plus a segment in VCR horror V/H/S/85. It’s produced by Erik Bernard, Scott Schneid, Jamie R. Thompson, Jeremy Torrie, Dennis Whitehead. Cineverse will be releasing this new Silent Night, Deadly Night update in select theaters starting on December 12th, 2025 at the end of the year. Ho ho ho. Anyone want to watch?

Max Hospital cardiologist shares why that ‘just gas’ feeling could be an early sign of a silent heart attack

by jummy84 October 11, 2025
written by jummy84

Heart attacks don’t always come with classic chest pain. Many people ignore subtle signs like bloating, gas, or indigestion, thinking it’s just digestive issues. However, these could sometimes indicate early cardiac problems.

Dr. Bhamri warns that persistent symptoms like gas and bloating may indicate silent heart attacks.(Shutterstock)

Dr Naveen Bhamri, Cardiologist with 21 years of experience at Max Super Speciality Hospital, Delhi, shares in his Instagram post why these symptoms should not be overlooked and when to seek medical attention. (Also read: Max Hospital cardiology director shares what perfect Indian plate really looks like: ‘Add 1 or 2 rotis and…’ )

What symptoms distinguish gas from a heart attack

“What are the symptoms that help us differentiate between gas and a heart attack? Many people don’t know this. In India, gas symptoms are very common. People often feel bloated and assume it’s just gas, without chest pain. However, these symptoms can mimic those of a heart attack,” warns Dr Naveen.

He adds, “So, don’t ignore such signs. If you experience them regularly, you must consult a cardiologist. Often, these symptoms, like heaviness in the chest, burping, or bloating, can indicate a silent heart attack, especially in elderly women or those with high blood pressure for a long time.”

When should you consult a cardiologist

Dr Bhamri explains that while gas and indigestion are usually harmless, persistent or recurring symptoms should never be overlooked. “Silent heart attacks may not present with the classic severe chest pain. Instead, they can appear as mild discomfort, bloating, or unusual heaviness in the chest. Timely medical evaluation can be life-saving,” he adds.

He advises individuals, particularly those with risk factors like high blood pressure, diabetes, or a family history of heart disease, to stay alert. Regular check-ups and prompt consultation at the first sign of unusual digestive or chest symptoms can prevent serious complications.

Silent Seminars Makes North American Debut

by jummy84 September 19, 2025
written by jummy84

Silent Seminars, a global leader in silent audio technology for events, marked a major milestone with its first large-scale deployment in North America at a leading investment industry conference. In partnership with Show Gear, the company delivered crystal-clear audio across a multi-zone setup, supporting more than 1,500 attendees with wireless headsets across nine concurrent seminar areas.

With a packed agenda of breakout sessions, keynotes, and panel discussions running in parallel, organisers required a scalable and elegant solution to manage audio across a complex and acoustically challenging venue. Silent Seminars, working alongside their U.S. partner Show Gear, was chosen to meet that need.

“Delivering seamless, intelligible audio across multiple zones without audio spill or distraction is what we do best,” said Duncan Strain, Director at Silent Seminars. “The response to our North American launch has been fantastic.”

Precision Audio Without the Noise

Over the course of the two-day event, Silent Seminars and Show Gear deployed 1,500 high-quality wireless headsets across nine active audio zones. Each seminar area was programmed to its own channel on the headsets, allowing attendees to move freely between sessions and tune into the content they were most interested in—without missing a word.

This silent audio format is especially valuable in open-plan venues, where multiple presentations often run side-by-side. The headset system eliminates the need for bulky PA systems and dramatically reduces ambient noise levels, enhancing the audience experience.

Behind the scenes, a combined team of Silent Seminars and Show Gear technical specialists provided on-site support, managing headset distribution, transmission setup, and real-time audio troubleshooting throughout the event.

Show Gear: AV Expertise Meets Innovative Audio

Based in the United States, Show Gear is a recognised leader in live and virtual audiovisual solutions. With extensive experience delivering large-scale productions and corporate events across the country, Show Gear’s partnership with Silent Seminars brings a new layer of innovation to the AV toolkit for planners and production teams.

“Partnering with Silent Seminars allows us to offer clients something truly unique: a scalable, flexible, and high-quality audio solution that’s tailor-made for modern event formats,” said David Wight, MD at Show Gear.

A Growing Demand for Smart Audio Solutions

As the event industry evolves, demand for silent seminar-style audio continues to grow—particularly for conferences, exhibitions, and multi-session summits. The benefits extend beyond sound quality: silent headsets allow for better crowd management, more efficient use of space, and enhanced accessibility for attendees with hearing difficulties and neurodiverse conditions.

The feedback from attendees and organisers alike has been overwhelmingly positive, with many citing the quality of the audio and ease of the system as standout features.

With its successful debut in the U.S., Silent Seminars is poised to become a key player in the North American conference and exhibition industry. The company’s international track record, combined with Show Gear’s local expertise, forms a strong foundation for continued expansion.

“We’re thrilled with how this first U.S. deployment went,” said Duncan Strain from Silent Seminars. “It’s just the beginning of our journey in North America, and we’re excited to show more organisers what’s possible when you take a silent approach to sound.”

“I would like to find proof of what plants sense.” Film Boutique has debuted a festival promo trailer for the film titled Silent Friend, the latest mesmerizing creation by award-winning Hungarian filmmaker Ildikó Enyedi. This is the best film from the 2025 Venice Film Festival and it seriously deserved to win Golden Lion – most critics agree, but the jury did not. Silent Friend is set at a university centered around a giant, old ginkgo tree. The film follows three intertwined stories at different time periods, exploring the idea of trees & plants being sentient and interacting with people. In the heart of a botanical garden in a medieval university town in Germany stands a majestic ginkgo tree. This silent witness has observed over a century the quiet rhythms of transformation across three human lives… This stars Tony Leung Chiu-Wai, Luna Wedler (who won a Venice award), Enzo Brumm, Sylvester Groth, Martin Wuttke, Johannes Hegemann, Rainer Bock, Marlene Burow, & Léa Seydoux. I fell hard for the film – it’s an instant all-timer favorite, everything about it is magical. This trailer features some of the wonderful score, but it’s still an experience you must have in theaters – getting pulled into this beautifully alluring, entrancing story of trees & humans.

Here’s the first festival promo trailer for Ildikó Enyedi’s film Silent Friend, direct from YouTube:

Silent Friend Trailer

Silent Friend Trailer

Tales told from the perspective of a lonely old tree standing in the middle of a botanical garden. In 2020 – a neuroscientist from Hong Kong, exploring the mind of babies, begins an unexpected experiment with the old tree. In 1972 – a young student is profoundly changed by the simple act of observing and connecting with a geranium. In 1908 – the university’s first female student discovers, using the lens of photography, sacred patterns of the universe hidden within the humblest of plants. We follow their clumsy attempts to connect — each one of them deeply rooted in their own present – as they are transformed by the quiet, enduring, and mysterious power of nature. The ancient ginkgo tree brings us closer to what it means to be human — to our longing to belong. Silent Friend is written and directed by acclaimed Hungarian filmmaker Ildikó Enyedi, director of the films Büvös Vadász, Tamas and Juli, Simon the Magiciain, On Body and Soul, and The Story of My Wife previously. Produced by Reinhard Brundig, Monika Mécs, Nicolas Elghozi, Morgane Olivier, Meng Xie. This recently premiered at the 2025 Venice Film Festival (read our review); it next plays at TIFF, Vancouver, London. No US release is set yet – stay tuned for more. Who wants to watch?

Venice 2025: Ildikó Enyedi’s Film ‘Silent Friend’ is Tree-Loving Bliss

by Alex Billington
September 6, 2025

Do plants have feelings? Are trees interacting with humans? Is there a way to measure or montior this? Can we talk with them – can they talk with us? Is the natural plant world just as alive as animals are? These are the kind of questions that Hungarian filmmaker is attempting to address with her spectacular, breathtaking new film titled Silent Friend. And it’s an instant favorite – this rare creation is a Film We Have Never Seen Before. Nothing like it exists, and it deserves to be appreciated and loved as one of the best films of the year. After my deeply moving, soulful experience watching this film at its world premiere at the 2025 Venice Film Festival, I can say that it’s going right on my list of all-time favorites. Seriously. Silent Friend is a majestic film featuring 3 intertwined stories centered around a big, old, majestic ginkgo tree in a university garden. It’s an ambitious cinematic exploration of the idea that plants & trees are sentient, using emotional stories to make it plausible. I’m a believer. After this film, you’ll never look at plants & trees the same way again. 🌳

Silent Friend is both written and directed by the acclaimed Hungarian filmmaker Ildikó Enyedi, her latest film since The Story of My Wife in 2021 (which I did not like much). She also won the Golden Bear at Berlinale in 2017 for On Body and Soul. Now she’s back with her best film yet that I will be raving about for the rest of the year (and the next few years). I wrote in my 10 Films to Watch intro that I think Silent Friend will be this year’s Perfect Days. On one hand, that is true and it is, on the other hand it’s so different that I can’t really compare them. Silent Friend is just as soulful and touching and peaceful, and that is the kind of beautiful filmmaking I really connect with these days. Enyedi’s Silent Friend follows three stories – the first one is set in 1908 following a young woman (played by Luna Wedler) accepted at the university as their first ever female student; the next one in 1972 following a woman and man who connect over an experiment with a geranium; and one in 2020 about a neuroscientist from Hong Kong (played by Tony Leung Chiu-wai) who devises his own experiment with the big ginkgo tree at the university during Covid-19 lockdowns. It was filmed at and takes place at the very real Marbug University in Marbug, Germany – where this tree really exists (in their botanical garden). No one can’t recreate this magnificent 200+ year old tree. It’s real.

Among the many brilliant aspects of Silent Friend, the intertwining of the 3 stories is amazingly impressive. Many filmmakers usually just present them linearly with each segment playing one after another. Enyedi is much more complex than that – she interweaves the storylines together, cutting back & forth between them as each one plays out over time. They are connected, but mainly thematically (along with the same location and same tree), and each builds upon the last. One of the ideas within the first story set in 1908 is that this woman is the first ever to be accepted into the university and thus paves the way for women to study there – which connects into the 1972 segment where a young woman is now also studying there and has invented a way to measure her geranium plant’s expressions. This is one of the many interconnected ideas throughout this masterful film. From the vibrant score by Gábor Keresztes & Kristóf Kelemen, to the stunningly perfect cinematography from DP Gergely Pálos, to the tender & heartfelt performances by the entire cast, to the exquisite editing & pacing from editor Károly Szalai, to the themes & ideas within that are explored, to the very question of whether trees & plants can communicate with us, THIS is cinema at its finest. I am still in awe… I am still vibrating thinking about how truly gorgeous of an experience it was to sit and watch this film unfold together with a thousand other people. We all emerged floating, high on the glory of cinema.

What is truly profound about Silent Friend is how many layers upon layers of ideas it explores through these 3 different stories. There’s a deeply resonant concept it explores showing how human connection & human relationships are also important for scientific progress. Each one of them must come to work together with someone else in order to achieve their goals. In addition, this represents the idea of how communication is difficult yet connection is still possible. The relationships depicted in the 3 stories feature people who at first struggle to connect, for various reasons, and yet they begin to understand each other more with time. This ultimately connects back to the core of the film – that we can communicate with plants & trees, we’re just still working out how… And even though they may not understand our language, and trees can’t speak to us, we’re still able to communicate & make new discoveries anyway. Especially when it comes to caring for and appreciating nature. Another idea explored in the 1908 segment is of a woman who’s exploring photography & taking photos in a way no one has ever seen before. Enyedi is doing the same – she’s a woman showing us something we have never seen before either. Most importantly, Enyedi takes on the incredibly ambitious goal of allowing cinema to show us that plants & trees really are sentient and can communicate with us, and achieves this in the most astonishing & cinematically satisfying ways. She really went there, and pulls it off.

I could go on & on for hours about the various themes and layers and ideas hidden within this masterpiece. I could discuss the aspects of trees and plants that she hints at with these stories, and how we really do need to question our relationship with them. I will be watching this film over and over again for years. There’s so much humility, so much beauty, so much tenderness in every shot, in every glance, in every breath of this film. There are a handful of cuts that are absolutely phenomenal – cutting between stories & characters that are on par with the famous match cut from Lawrence of Arabia. The vigorous score builds & builds at the right moments, hitting deep in the chest with waves of emotion and vibration, reminding us that sound can be as magnificently affecting as the visuals. It’s a beautiful tree-hugger film, however it also carefully shows us human relationships are important, too. It’s not only about loving nature and understanding nature and admiring this tree and that’s all. There’s much more to it in every sense. It’s so invigorating, and so moving, to come across such a wonderfully resonant, deeply intellectual, cinematically powerful film that makes you want to talk about it for days on end. I live for this. And now I want to visit this ginkgo tree in Marburg, too.
