Madhuri Dixit Joins 8-Hour Shift Debate Amid Deepika Padukone Row; Says, “I’m A Workaholic, We Worked 12-Hours Every Day”

Madhuri Dixit – who is known as the Dhak-Dhak girl of Bollywood is all set to show a side like never before in her upcoming web show Mrs Deshpande. The actress – who rose to fame with iconic films such as Dil, Beta, Hum Aapke Hain Koun..!, Dil To Pagal Hai and more, is all set to play a jailed serial killer in the Hotstar show.

During a recent interaction, the actress – who has been part of the industry for over 4 decades, was asked her views about there being an 8-hour shift for actors on movie sets. This conversation gained prominence following Deepika Padukone’s ouster from Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Spirit. Read below to know all the ‘Lajja’ actress had to share.

Madhuri Dixit Weighs In On 8-Hour Shifts Debate

When asked about her views on the 8-hour shift debate, Madhuri Dixit told ANI, “The thing is that when we did Mrs Deshpande, we were working 12-hour shifts every day, like maybe more sometimes… So, I think to each his own.” She continued, “I’m a workaholic. So for me, maybe it’s different, but if a woman has that power and can say, ‘okay, I want to work these many hours,’ then that’s her prerogative, and that’s her life, and that’s how she wants to do it…Then more power to her.”

A while ago, Rani Mukerji also weighed in on the same topic. Stating that there should be better coordination and understanding between actors and producers, the ‘Mardaani’ actress said, “These things are up for conversation today because maybe people are discussing them outside. But this has been the norm with all professions. I’ve also done it where I have worked for certain hours. If the producer’s okay with it, you go ahead with the film. If the producer isn’t okay with it, you don’t make the film. So it’s also a choice. Nobody is forcing anything on anybody.”

Deepika Padukone Fires Back At 8-Hour Shift Row: ‘We Mistake Burnout For Commitment’

by jummy84 November 15, 2025
written by jummy84

Deepika Padukone has finally broken her silence on the controversy surrounding her demand for an eight-hour work shift — a debate reignited after her much-publicised exits from Spirit and Kalki 2898 AD sequel. In a candid interview with CNBC-TV18, she painted a picture of double standards in Bollywood, calling for systemic reform in an industry she described as “very disorganised.”

At the heart of her argument is an uncomfortable truth: many male superstars have been working eight-hour days — even weekdays-only schedules — without the scrutiny she’s facing now. “By virtue of being a woman, if that’s coming across as being pushy… so be it,” she said. For her, the problem isn’t just long hours — it’s that the culture glorifies overwork and mistakes burnout for dedication.

Deepika argued that being healthy isn’t a luxury, but a necessity: “Eight hours of work a day is enough for the human body and mind. Only when you’re healthy can you give your best.” She said flexible work hours should not be the exception, but a standard, especially for people who juggle motherhood and grueling work demands. Her own office reportedly follows an 8-hour, 5-day workweek, with maternity and paternity policies and facilities for working parents.

The fallout of these demands has been significant. When Deepika walked away from Spirit, rumors claimed she pushed for shorter hours, profit sharing and even a 25-person entourage with five-star accommodations. These reports gathered traction and fueled criticism, particularly because such requests came just months after she became a mother.

Her exit from Kalki 2 sparked further debate. It was formally announced that she would not reprise her role, and insiders claim her “work-culture demands” played a key part in the fallout. But Deepika insists her case isn’t about special treatment — it’s about basic fairness.

Calling the film industry disorganized, she said it’s time to bring in structure and professionalism. “We really never worked as an industry. It’s time that we brought in some system into this culture,” she argued.

Despite the heat she’s taken, Deepika says she’s unflinching. “I’m okay being abused at. I need to keep reinventing and pushing the boundaries,” she told reporters. She credited her background — raised by an athlete father, Prakash Padukone — for giving her the resilience to tune out noise and persist with what she believes is right.

Deepika’s stand has opened a larger conversation about gender and equity in Bollywood. Many see this as a benchmark moment: if one of the biggest stars can demand fair working conditions, it pressures the system to catch up. Some have already voiced support. For instance, actor and singer Diljit Dosanjh reportedly backed her publicly, highlighting the need for better work-life balance. Meanwhile, Sonakshi Sinha weighed in too: “You do need time for yourself,” she said.

Still, critics remain divided. Some question whether her demands are feasible, especially for large-scale, VFX-heavy productions where long hours may be tied to budget and deadlines. Others argue that her privileges make her push less relatable. But Deepika’s case is not only about her convenience — it’s about redefining what commitment and professionalism mean in modern cinema.

For her part, she’s not backing down. She insists that her fight is not for special favors, but for an industry that respects mental health, parenthood and sustainable work culture. Her exit from two major projects wasn’t a power play — it was a principled stand, and she wants that to spark more than headlines.

As the debate continues, Deepika Padukone’s message remains clear: work culture needs to evolve, not just for her, but for the many who create the stories the world watches.

MSNBC Makes The Shift To MS NOW As Part Of Split From Comcast

by jummy84 November 15, 2025
written by jummy84

MSNBC transformed into the newly named MS NOW on Saturday morning, as the network splits from parent company Comcast.

“Don’t adjust your settings,” Jonathan Capehart, co-host of The Weekend, told viewers shortly after 7 a.m. ET, from studios in Washington. “We are formerly MSNBC. As of this moment, we have a new name, MS NOW, which stands for My Source for News Opinion and the World. But other than that, and these snazzy new graphics, not much is changing. Bottom line: Same mission, new name.”

Moments earlier, viewers saw Morning Joe Weekend host Willie Geist sign off for the final time under the MSNBC name, with a shot of the NBC Peacock logo.

MS NOW has been preparing for this moment since last year, when Comcast announced that it would be spinning off MSNBC along with other cable networks into a new company, later named Versant. MS NOW has built up its own newsroom, as NBC News no longer is a sister network.

MS NOW will not stream episodes of its shows after they air on Peacock, the Comcast service, although past MSNBC shows like Morning Joe and Deadline White House with Nicolle Wallace were still available as of Saturday morning. MSNBC ended its original programming on Peacock several years ago, but some MSNBC shows were available the next day. MS NOW will be available to pay TV subscribers on its mobile app and Roku, tvOS, Fire TV, Android TV and Comcast Xumo connected apps.

The website has changed as well, to MS.NOW, with MSNBC.com redirecting to that page.

MSNBC was launched in 1996 as a partnership between NBC News and Microsoft. With an initial focus on internet connectivity, the network eventually transformed into a channel offering a mix of news and opinion, and Microsoft eventually sold its stake but the name remained.

Jermaine Dupri Speaks Out After Creator Of AI Artist Xania Monet Defends Emerging Shift In Music Industry

It’s a no for #JermaineDupri.

The Grammy-winning producer is making it very clear where he stands on AI artists entering the music industry. Responding to a recent interview Mississippi poet Telisha Nikki Jones, the mastermind and lyricist behind AI artist #XaniaMonet, did with #GayleKing defending her creation, Jermaine wrote on X, “So let me get this right, years ago the industry found out that Milli Vanilli weren’t really the voices on their Grammy winning record and they were stripped of their Grammy, but now we’re getting ready to accept people who can’t even sing, creating songs for a fake person?” He ended with, “How is this any different than Milli Vanilli?”

During her sit-down, Jones acknowledged that she can’t sing but said Xania Monet still feels real to her. “I wouldn’t call it a shortcut, because I still put in the work,” she shared. Jones continued defending Xania Monet and where the industry is headed: “Anytime something new comes about and it challenges the norm and it challenges what we’re used to, you’re going to get strong reactions behind it. And I just feel that AI is the new era that we’re in. I look at it as a tool, as an instrument. Utilize it!”

Do y’all agree with Jermaine, or is AI the future of the entertainment industry whether we like it or not?

Rashmika Mandanna opens up on work-life balance amid Deepika Padukone’s 8-hour shift demand: ‘I overwork, don’t do it’

by jummy84 October 28, 2025
written by jummy84

For the last few weeks, actor Rashmika Mandanna has been in the news for her engagement to Vijay Deverakonda and her recently released film Thamma. But now the beauty is busy gearing up for her next movie, The Girlfriend. Recently, producer Sreenivasa Kumar praised Rashmika’s work ethic, claiming that she never imposed any work-hour restrictions. This statement came amid the controversial debate about work timings which rose after Deepika Padukone’s alleged 8-hour shift demand for Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Spirit. Well, Rashmika has now shared her thoughts on work-life balance, explaining the importance of not ‘overworking’.

Rashmika Mandanna and Deepika Padukone

Some time back Rashmika Mandanna mentioned that it has been months since she got a full 8-hour sleep. Referring to the same, when asked about work-life balance, Rashmika told Gulte, “I think us glorifying the fact that we overwork is not good. I overwork, and I’m telling you, it’s highly not suggestible. Don’t do it. It’s not sustainable. Don’t do it. Do what is comfortable for you, do what is right for you. Get those 8 hours, get those 9-10 hours also because trust me that’s going to save you in the later ages. As in, I have seen a lot of these conversations recently where people are like ‘okay, you know, work timing’ and all of that. I’ve done it both. And I’m telling you, this is not worth it. As in, of course, it’s a responsibility that you have. I tend to overwork myself because I take on so much more than a normal human being can and should. But I’m also not someone who will tell my teams that I can’t do something for them. If I know that they are struggling and they’re like ‘no we have this location only till now and we have to shoot so much in this time’ and all of that, I understand and I’ll give in.”

When director Rahul Ravindran said ‘It’s almost everyday in cinema’, Rashmika agreed and explained, “Yeah, that’s almost every day in cinema. And that’s the love and respect I have for my teams. But if I could choose for myself, I would say ‘please don’t make us actors do that, because there’s a lot that’s going on’. Not even actors. Directors, lightmen, music, everyone, just have, like you know how office time is 9 to 6 or 9 to 5 or 9 to 4, let us have that. Because there’s still a family life that I want to focus on, there’s still my sleep that I want to get in, I still want to work out so, you know, later on I’m not regretting that I wish I was, you know, healthy and fit and working out when I was younger. I’m still thinking about my future. But right now I don’t have a say because I’m taking on too much on myself.”

What are your thoughts on the ongoing shift debate in the film industry?

Joe Westerlund: Curiosities From the Shift Album Review

by jummy84 October 25, 2025
written by jummy84

After recording alone at Sylvan Esso’s studio, Westerlund had friends like Califone’s Tim Rutili, saxophonist Sam Gendel, and violinist Libby Rodenbough make their marks, drawing out the songfulness of his pitched percussion and electronic washes—his kaleidoscopic mills of hand drums, shakers, metallophones, thumb pianos, flutes, field recordings, and so on. To call it a percussion album probably gives the wrong idea of austerity and intensity, when the music is really driven by its transparent density and uncanny efflorescence of textures and colors. It’s vivid and exciting in the manner of techno, though dancing to it would be a path to insanity, and it’s beautiful and subtle in the manner of concert music without taking itself quite so seriously.

For all of his evident technical ability, Westerlund’s music seems most concerned with vibe and feel, and each track on Curiosities gives us a different way to perceive meaning in motion. “Nu Male Uno” is moist-eyed like Animal Collective, draping a swaying theme over a sashaying ant-line of little pulses. “Peebles ’n’ Stones” is an array of seemingly disparate parts—unwinding clockwork, essayistic constructions of mixed percussion, glassily shattering piano phrases—inextricably linked like falling dominos. “Can Tangle” distills a knack for coating sweet, tiny songs in glittering scales of rhythmic and timbral elaboration.

There are still many surprises to come—the dubby noir of “Persurverance,” the computerized scramble and galumph of “Furahai,” the perfumed Italo splashes of “Midpoint,” and the mighty churn of “Elegy (for OLAibi),” which begins in sinuous reverie and ends in rapture. Throughout his work, Westerlund makes beats feel less like unilateral lines and more like vast webs vibrating with sympathetic reactions—percussion as ecosystem, not the bulldozer plowing through it. This approach, rigorous yet flexible and fluid, has a natural synergy with the clave on Curiosities From the Shift. Though clearly born out of strenuous study and effort, it’s an easy and captivating listen, which is the essence of his generous, endlessly generative approach to music.

Deepika Padukone gets support from Pakistani actor Iqra Aziz amid debate around 8-hour shift demand: ‘As long as she…’

by jummy84 October 11, 2025
written by jummy84

Pakistani actor Iqra Aziz has voiced her support for Bollywood actor Deepika Padukone amid the ongoing debate over eight-hour work shifts in the Indian film industry. The discussion gained momentum after reports surfaced that Deepika had exited two major projects: Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Spirit and the sequel to Kalki 2898 AD, reportedly because she requested an eight-hour workday.

Deepika Padukone has been in the news for exiting two films this year: Kalki 2898 AD sequel and Spirit.

Iqra Aziz supports Deepika

Recently, Deepika addressed the controversy surrounding her request for an eight-hour workday. In an interview with CNBC-TV18, the actor pointed out that male superstars have been following the same eight-hour schedule for years, yet it has “never made headlines.”

Iqra took to Instagram to come forward and support Deepika, who welcomed her daughter Dua last year. Iqra wrote a note for Deepika on her Instagram Stories while sharing a clip of Deepika’s interview on the same.

She wrote, “The emphasis isn’t on the 8-hour shift, but on her perceived demanding nature. A mother striving for work-life balance should be supported. As long as she meets her commitments, her colleagues should be team players and respect her time,” Iqra added.

Apart from Iqra, filmmaker Hansal Mehta also took to social media to weigh in on the ongoing debate around the eight-hour work shift system in the film industry.

“In our line of work, a 12-hour day is politely called a “shift.” The truth is, between the chaos of shoots, the endless commute, hurried meals and barely a few hours of broken sleep, there’s little left of us. Where does our mental health or physical well-being fit into this equation?,” Hansal wrote on X, adding, “The normalisation of 12-hour working days feels exploitative. It should be the exception, not the standard.”

What did Deepika say on the stir

Lately, Deepika has been in the spotlight for exiting Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Spirit, reportedly over her request for an 8-hour workday. She has also stepped away from Kalki 2898 AD, with the makers stating that the project demands a “higher level of commitment”.

In the interview with CNBC-TV18, Deepika reacted when she was told she was facing a lot of pushback for her decision. She said, “By virtue of being a woman, if that’s coming across as being pushy or whatever, then so be it. But it is no secret that a lot of superstars, male superstars, in the Indian film industry, have been working for eight hours for years, and it’s never made headlines.”

“I don’t want to take names now and make this into a whole thing, but it is very commonly, publicly known that a lot of male actors have been working for eight hours a day for years. A lot of them only work for eight hours Monday to Friday. They do not work on weekends,” she added.

She also described the film industry as “very disorganised”, adding that she thinks “it’s time we brought in some system into this culture.”

Actor Deepika Padukone broke her silence after a row emerged over her demand for an 8-hour shift following her exit from Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Spirit and Nag Ashwin’s Kalki 2. Speaking with CNBC-TV18, Deepika shared how “male superstars” have been doing an 8-hour shift for years, but it “never made headlines.”

Deepika says male actors have been working for 8 hours for years

“I don’t want to take names now and make this into a whole thing, but it is very commonly, publicly known that a lot of male actors have been working for eight hours a day for years. A lot of them only work for eight hours Monday to Friday. They do not work on weekends,” she added.

Deepika said that even though the Indian film industry is “termed as an industry, we have never really worked like an industry”. She added that it’s “a very disorganised industry”, saying she thinks “it’s time we brought in some system into this culture.”

Deepika’s exit from Spirit, Kalki 2898 AD sequel

The actor found herself in a row after she exited Spirit, reportedly over wanting to work not more than eight hours a day during the shoot so that she could be with her daughter, Dua. However, her demands weren’t met, and she exited the film.

Recently, Vyjayanthi Movies announced that she is no longer a part of the Kalki 2898 AD sequel. In their statement, they said that they decided to part ways with Deepika after “careful consideration,” adding that a film like Kalki deserves a higher level of “commitment.”

About Deepika’s upcoming films

Deepika began her shooting for King just a few days after her exit from the Kalki 2898 AD sequel. Directed by Siddharth Anand, King stars Shah Rukh Khan, Suhana Khan, and Abhishek Bachchan, among others. Deepika will star in Atlee’s upcoming film AA22xA6 alongside Allu Arjun.

beam & MIA ESG Summit highlights industry shift from ambition to action

by jummy84 September 19, 2025
written by jummy84

Pictured: Louisa Watson – Chair of beam, Matt Grey – Event: decision and Shonali Devereaux – CEO of MIA

The UK meetings and events sector has underscored its commitment to sustainability at the beam & MIA ESG Summit, where industry experts came together to share practical strategies for embedding environmental, social, and governance (ESG) principles across the meetings and events sector.

The summit examined how purpose-driven business models, responsible supply chains, and transparent certification frameworks are transforming the industry. Highlights included:

  • Ticket Tailor’s ‘growth on purpose’ strategy, which ties profit-sharing and carbon reduction to business growth.
  • Panel discussions around authenticity, business efficiency, and the importance of ingraining ESG into business practices.
  • The younger generation being encouraged to lead in ESG initiatives, with training and clear communication essential.
  • The introduction of the carbon literacy concept, with a call to action for businesses to work towards it.

A recurring theme was the importance of consistency and credibility. With clients demanding tangible proof points, speakers stressed that schemes such as B Corp and Greengage ECOsmart are becoming essential. At the same time, innovation is helping venues and agencies cut energy bills, reduce waste, and demonstrate measurable impact while maintaining competitive pricing.

Louisa Watson, beam Chair, said: “This summit shows that our industry is moving from words to action. What really stood out for me was the reminder that purpose and profit can go hand in hand. As an industry, we mustn’t be afraid to start small, be authentic, and accept that we are all a work in progress. What matters most is that we take action, however modest, and do it with credibility. ESG is about being brave, creative, and consistent, and when it becomes part of everyday decision-making, it delivers reputation, resilience, and change.”

Shonali Devereaux, MIA chief executive, added: “Every session reinforced that embedding ESG into our business DNA is not only a moral imperative but also presents a powerful commercial advantage. To truly see sustainability as a winning strategy, we must broaden our definition of ROI recognising that it delivers trust, loyalty and long-term business resilience. Small, authentic actions, from advocating with clients to building carbon literacy and accountability within our teams, are steps that will future-proof our organisations and our industry. Most importantly, we must begin asking ourselves: what can we do tomorrow that we aren’t doing today?”

The beam & MIA ESG Summit positions the UK’s meetings and events industry at the forefront of responsible business practice, setting a strong example for global counterparts.
