“Everyone’s mad at Dad, huh?” Neon has unveiled their second official trailer for Joachim Trier’s terrific film Sentimental Value, which is opening in theaters starting in November this fall. It should’ve won the Palme d’or at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival this year. Instead it won the Grand Prix second prize, which I’m happy about anyway, because this film deserves any & every award. It keeps winning people over at every festival it plays at! After the death of their mother, sisters Nora & Agnes Borg are forced to confront their distant father Gustav, a once-famous though now nearly forgotten film director. Gustav, convinced that an autobiographical screenplay he’s written will be his ticket back to fame, offers the lead role to Nora, but she firmly refuses, prompting him to cast Hollywood actress Rachel Kemp instead in the lead role, whom he meets during a retrospective of his films in France. The film stars Stellan Skarsgård as Gustav, Renate Reinsve & Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas as the sisters, plus Elle Fanning as Rachel Kemp, and with Anders Danielsen Lie. One of my favorite films of the year! My review was quoted in the first trailer, and the same quote now appears on the official poster below. I’m happy audiences will finally get to experience this soon.

Sisters Nora and Agnes reunite with their estranged father, the charismatic Gustav, a once-renowned director who offers stage actress Nora a role in what he hopes will be his comeback film. When Nora turns it down, she soon discovers he has given her part to an eager young Hollywood star. Suddenly, the two sisters must navigate their complicated relationship with their father — and deal with an American star dropped right into the middle of their complex family dynamics. Sentimental Value is directed by award-winning, acclaimed Norwegian filmmaker Joachim Trier, director of the films Reprise, Oslo August 31st, Louder Than Bombs, Thelma, The Other Munch, and The Worst Person in the World previously. The script is written by Joachim Trier and Eskil Vogt. It’s produced by Maria Ekerhovd and Andrea Berentsen Ottmar. This initially premiered at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival a few months ago (read our review). Neon debuts Trier’s Sentimental Value film in select US theaters starting on November 7th, 2025 this fall. Look good?
