Nicolas Cage in Talks for ‘True Detective’ Season 5

Between Woody Harrelson, Matthew McConaughey, Jodie Foster, Colin Farrell, Mahershala Ali, and Rachel McAdams, “True Detective” has a knack for getting big movie stars onto the small screen, and the latest could be someone who has only recently dipped his toes into television: Nicolas Cage. In fact, the actor hinted way back in 2023 that he may only have a few movies left in him and would’ve wanted to “have left on a high note” before turning to TV.

Cage is in talks to star in the fifth season of “True Detective” for HBO, a source told IndieWire. This season is said to be set in the Jamaica Bay area of New York City, and showrunner and writer Issa Lopez, who took over for creator Nic Pizzolatto for the fourth season, “Night Country,” is back. Any other plot details are still under wraps.

HBO had no comment.

The only other instance of Cage turning to television as the lead for a series still hasn’t come out yet. That would be “Spider-Noir,” the live-action, black and white series for Amazon that is a spinoff of Cage’s character in the animated “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.” In it he plays a 1930s private investigator/superhero forced to grapple with his past life choices. The series is set to debut in 2026.

Not only was “Night Country” the most-watched season of “True Detective” in its four seasons, it also broke the losing streak for “True Detective” and won its lead Jodie Foster an Emmy and Golden Globe, the first time a lead for the series has won the top industry prizes. Cage would still be a Tony and a Grammy away from EGOT status if he managed the same, but we can dream.

Pizzolatto had teased that Season 1 stars McConaughey and Harrelson were interested in reprising their roles, with Pizzolatto saying he had another idea for their characters Cohle and Hart, but Pizzolatto last wrote for the series in Season 3.

True to form, Cage has been plenty busy in both prestigious projects and lower-budget shlock, starring in last year’s “Longlegs,” “The Surfer,” and “Arcadian,” as well as this year’s “Gunslingers.” In addition to the “Spider-Noir” series set for next year, Cage is playing NFL legend John Madden in a biopic being directed by David O. Russell, he’s starring in a sequel to “Lord of War” from Andrew Niccol, he’ll appear in a horror film called “The Carpenter’s Son,” and he’s in post on “The Prince,” based on a David Mamet script.

“Legend is what history doesn’t record… but still remembers.” Netflix has revealed a first look featurette for the next season of Blue Eye Samurai, the awesome anime action fantasy series which debuted back in 2023. I’m a big fan of this series – it kicks all kinds of ass, I enjoyed watching every episode. Glad it will continue on soon. They’re already deep in development on the sequel, the next season, currently titled Blue Eye Samurai 2. Everyone’s favorite samurai character Mizu is back again in a continuation of the story from the first season. “Mizu’s quest for revenge will continue. Season 2 of the award winning series, Blue Eye Samurai is now in production.” View a sneak peek with the series’ co-creators Amber Noizumi & Michael Green as well as executive producer, Jane Wu. They tease that this might take place at different times in the past, and we might see a few characters that were killed in the first season back in here again. That’s all they hint at, as there’s not much more other than this very brief glimpse of footage – direct from Anime NYC. This is enough to get me hyped for this, whenever it’ll be out to watch sometime next few years.

Love Triangle Returns

The romantic drama isn’t over—Gabriel (Lucas Bravo) and Alfie (Lucien Laviscount) are also back, adding tension to Emily’s evolving love life. After Gabriel admitted lingering feelings for Emily in Season 4’s finale, the stage is set for another emotional triangle.

Last One Laughing season 2 line-up confirmed as Bob Mortimer returns

Whoever survives the longest without cracking a smile (they get just one life before they’re out) is then crowned winner at the end of the run.

This time around the comics competing are David Mitchell, Diane Morgan, Romesh Ranganathan, Amy Gledhill, Maisie Adam, Mel Giedroyc, Alan Carr, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Sam Campbell and season 1 winner Bob Mortimer returning to defend his crown.

The first UK season of the show was contested by Mortimer, Daisy May Cooper, Joe Lycett, Judi Love, Rob Beckett, Sara Pascoe, Lou Sanders, Joe Wilkinson, Harriet Kemsley and Richard Ayoade, who emerged as the runner-up.

Roisin Conaty will also return to cast her eye over proceedings alongside Carr from the safety of the control room.

Mortimer previously spoke to RadioTimes.com and other press about his time filming the show and the challenges he had to overcome.

“I thought it would be easy not to laugh,” he said. “[I] spend most of my days not laughing, so I thought it would be easy, but it’s so difficult! [It’s] just a strange atmosphere, I was really struggling in the beginning.”

Speaking about how he managed not to laugh, the Gone Fishing comedian explained: “I just walked away. There was a few contestants [where] I just couldn’t look at their faces, so I just veered away.”

Meanwhile, Carr spoke to RadioTimes.com about how he couldn’t imagine being a contestant on the show, saying: “I think probably the reason I became a host rather than a team captain on shows was [because] I’m a pretty generous laugher. I’ve got a weird laugh, fine, but I use it a lot. I love stand-up comedy, I consume more than I perform. I watch everyone’s specials and watch all the shows.”

He continued: “I absolutely love comedy as a genre and I think that thing about not laughing is so weird. Like to be in there and not laughing at your friends and being unsupportive, it’s so counterintuitive.”

Prime Video has also spawned versions of the hit format in over 20 countries, with local celebrity hosts including Graham Norton (Ireland), Jay Baruchel (Canada), Eugenio Derbez (Mexico), Fedez (Italy), Michael ‘Bully’ Herbig (Germany), Rebel Wilson (Australia) and Trevor Noah (South Africa).

‘All Creatures Great and Small’ Photos Reveal Time Jump and New Baby in Season 6 Cast — Who’s Returning?

All Creatures Great and Small fans, don’t fear. Despite Callum Woodhouse saying he was “done” in a Season 6 teaser shared by PBS earlier this week, the series has assured that he’s not leaving the show. The All Creatures Great and Small Season 6 cast list has just been revealed, and it confirms that he will be back as Tristan Farnon alongside his fellow longtime costars. It also reveals a time jump in Season 6 and a new baby for the Herriot family!

That August 19 behind-the-scenes video also made fans wonder why Anna Madeley (Mrs. Hall) wasn’t present, but she’ll be back in the new season. The August 21 announcement also came with the first photos from Season 6, set to premiere in 2026 in the U.S., and the announcement of five new cast members. It’s a busy day for fans of this heartwarming series.

All Creatures Great and Small Season 6 takes us back to the beautiful Yorkshire Dales for more heartwarming human and animal tales but, this time, we find our beloved Skeldale gang in a somewhat different situation as we join them in 1945, just as the war in Europe is coming to a close. We arrive back in Darrowby to veterinary advancements, expanded families, and new faces as they all look ahead to a brighter and more peaceful future. This season will see Herriot’s wonderful characters navigating the opportunities that a new world brings, a host of animals great and small, and of course, each other.

This marks a four-year time jump between Season 5 and 6. Season 5 was set in the spring of 1941.

Who is in the All Creatures Great and Small Season 6 cast?

Nicholas Ralph reprises his role as devoted vet James Herriot, alongside Samuel West as the brilliant yet unpredictable business partner Siegfried Farnon. Anna Madeley returns as the steadfast Mrs. Hall, with Rachel Shenton once again as capable Helen Herriot, and Callum Woodhouse as the mischievous Tristan Farnon, still serving with the Royal Army Veterinary Corps. Patricia Hodge delights as the elegant Mrs. Pumphrey, joined by her cherished Pekingese, Tricki. Also featuring are Tony Pitts as Helen’s no-nonsense father, Richard Alderson, and Imogen Clawson as her spirited younger sister, Jenny.

Newcomers to the cast this season are Lucy-Jo Hudson, Gaia Wise, Jonathan Hyde, Philip Martin Brown, and Chris Gascoyne. Returning guest cast are Mollie Winnard, Conor Deane, Cat Simmons, and Lamin Touray.

When does All Creatures Great and Small Season 6 come out?

Season 6 will premiere in the U.K. (on channel 5) this fall and in the U.S. in early 2026, PBS confirms. The new season will consist of six episodes plus a Christmas Special.

The series based on James Herriot’s beloved books is produced by BAFTA and Golden Globe-winning company Playground (Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light, The Hardacres, The Undeclared War) and Masterpiece on PBS, in association with global partner All3Media International.

Hayley Atwell, Rupert Everett Join ‘Rivals’ Season 2 at Disney+

Disney+ has unveiled new casting additions for the second season of “Rivals,” with Hayley Atwell and Rupert Everett joining the ensemble as guest stars in the drama based on Jilly Cooper’s bestselling novel.

Atwell, known for “Mission Impossible” and “Agent Carter,” will portray Helen Gordon, the ex-wife of Rupert Campbell-Black and mother to his children Marcus and Tabitha. Everett, whose credits include “Napoleon” and “My Policeman,” takes on the role of Malise Gordon, Helen’s husband and Campbell-Black’s former show-jumping coach and mentor.

The Happy Prince production, part of ITV Studios, is currently shooting in the U.K.. Season 2 will expand to 12 episodes, building on the success of the first season which became one of Disney+’s most popular British original dramas.

Additional new cast members announced include Maxim Ays (“Boarders,” “Sanditon”), Holly Cattle (“Young Sherlock,” “Mr Loverman”), Oliver Dench (“Hotel Portofino,” “Domina”), Amanda Lawrence (“Malory Towers,” “Star Wars: The Last Jedi”), Bobby Lockwood (“Wolfblood,” “Here We Go”), Eliot Salt (“Slow Horses,” “Normal People”), and Jonny Weldon (“One Day,” “Brassic”).

The series brings back its original ensemble cast alongside an extensive list of returning supporting players, including Wendy Albiston, Jamie Bisping, Denise Black, and David Calder, among others.

Set in the glamorous world of 1980s British television against the backdrop of the Cotswolds countryside, the second season will feature heightened power struggles and deeper rivalries as careers, marriages and reputations hang in the balance.

“Rivals is a landmark series for Disney+, quickly becoming one of our most beloved British U.K. original dramas,” said Lee Mason, executive director of Scripted Originals, EMEA Disney+. “I’m delighted to welcome Hayley and Rupert to our extraordinary family of actors. They are a perfect match for the world of Rutshire, so lovingly created by Dame Jilly and the team at Happy Prince.”

Dominic Treadwell-Collins, chief creative officer of Happy Prince, and Alexander Lamb, creative director, added: “We are utterly thrilled to have Hayley and Rupert join us to play Jilly Cooper’s legendary characters Helen and Malise Gordon. Alongside our other new wonderful actors and truly brilliant returning cast, ‘Rivals’ series two absolutely showcases the best of British and Irish talent.”

The series is executive produced by Treadwell-Collins, Lamb, Felicity Blunt, Elliot Hegarty, Laura Wade, Cooper and Jonny Richards for Disney+ EMEA scripted content. Eliza Mellor serves as series producer.

“Rivals” will return to Hulu in the U.S. and Disney+ in the U.K. and internationally. The first season is currently available to stream on Disney+.

Noah Wyle Is Directing Season 2 Episode

When Noah Wyle stopped by TV Insider’s office during Season 1, he told us that he’d “very much like to” direct in Season 2. He’d previously directed episodes of Falling Skies, The Librarians, and Leverage: Redemption. In Season 1, he only added the titles of executive producer and writer to star. But that is changing for Season 2.

On Tuesday, August 19, Wyle shared a photo of the clapperboard from set, revealing he’s directing Season 2 Episode 6. “Never want to wake up from this dream,” read the caption.

Season 2 will pick up 10 months later, on Langdon’s (Patrick Ball) first day back at work following rehab. Wyle’s character Robby would have much rather not be working the same shift as the resident who betrayed him by stealing pills.

“Robby can be petty, and forgiveness is sometimes harder for some than others. And yeah, betrayal is a big deal,” Wyle told us in August. “Like anybody that has walls up, if they let their wall down for you and you are one of the few that get to share an intimacy, and then that turns into any kind of betrayal, the wall goes up twice as high as it was before, and that’s what we’re going to play with probably.”

Wyle previously admitted to us in Season 1 that he did think about directing in Season 1, “but this wasn’t an exercise in vanity. This wasn’t supposed to be, how many titles can I wear?” he explained in March. “This was, can we get this show on the air? And after seeing how we do it and how we make it, I think it would be advantageous to be sort of a player-coach working on the floor in both capacities. I don’t think it would be disruptive. I think it actually would be efficient.”

As for what he was looking forward to directing on The Pitt, at the time, he shared, “It’s about getting lots of different people to buy into one thing, and that’s something I’m getting better at and something I really enjoy doing. And I care so much about these characters in this arena, and it’s a world that I know really, really well, that there aren’t many areas where I can speak with this kind of confidence. So this is one I’d love to try.”

The first season of this epic post-apocalyptic series debuted in April 2024 last year, with mostly positive reviews. Onward! Lucy & The Ghoul are teaming up to take on greater threats this time. The new season will pick up in the aftermath of Season One’s epic finale and take audiences along for a journey through the wasteland of the Mojave to the post-apocalyptic city of New Vegas. What strange grotesque and dangerous and exciting apocalyptic wonders will they find there? The series stars Ella Purnell, Aaron Moten, Walton Goggins, Moisés Arias, Kyle MacLachlan, Sarita Choudhury, Michael Emerson, Leslie Uggams, Frances Turner. Also featuring Dave Register, Zach Cherry, Johnny Pemberton, Rodrigo Luzzi, Annabel O’Hagan, and Xelia Mendes-Jones. And a doggie known as CX404 (played by a Belgian Malinois named Lana5). This looks like an improvement over the first season! Even bigger and better and weirder and crazier. Fire it up.
