Paresh Rawal Reveals Turning Down Drishyam 3: ‘Script Is Good, But Maza Nahin Aaya’

Veteran actor Paresh Rawal, known for his impeccable comic timing and versatile performances, recently revealed that he declined an offer to be part of Ajay Devgn’s much-awaited thriller Drishyam 3. The actor, who was reportedly approached for a significant role in the upcoming installment of the hit franchise, said that although the script was well-written, it failed to excite him enough to come on board.

In a recent interview, Paresh Rawal spoke candidly about his decision, sharing that he appreciated the storyline and the effort that went into the film but did not feel the same thrill he usually seeks before signing a project. “They offered me a role in Drishyam 3, and I read the script. It’s good, but maza nahi aaya (it didn’t excite me). I need to feel something new or challenging in every role I do. This one didn’t give me that spark,” he explained.

The Drishyam franchise, led by Ajay Devgn, has become one of Bollywood’s most successful thriller series, known for its gripping narrative and emotional depth. The first film, released in 2015, was an official remake of the Malayalam hit of the same name starring Mohanlal. Its sequel, Drishyam 2 (2022), continued the story with new twists and was equally lauded for its tight screenplay and performances. The third part, directed by Abhishek Pathak, is expected to conclude the saga, further exploring the aftermath of Vijay Salgaonkar’s actions and the moral dilemmas surrounding his family.

While the film’s cast is still being finalised, reports suggest that Ajay Devgn, Tabu, and Shriya Saran will reprise their roles, with Akshaye Khanna also likely returning. Paresh Rawal’s decision to opt out came as a surprise to fans, many of whom had hoped to see him bring a fresh dimension to the tense psychological world of Drishyam.

Paresh Rawal clarified: ‘Drishyam a great brand’

Paresh Rawal, however, clarified that his decision had nothing to do with the team or the film’s quality. “It’s not about the people or the franchise. Drishyam is a great brand, and Ajay is fantastic. But as an actor, I have to be driven by something deeper than just a good story. It’s about excitement — when I read a script and feel restless to do it, that’s when I say yes,” he said.

The actor, who has delivered iconic performances in films such as Hera Pheri, Oh My God!, Andaz Apna Apna, and Sardar, said that he is currently more selective with his projects, preferring roles that allow him to experiment and surprise his audience. “At this stage of my career, I don’t want to repeat myself. I’ve done the loud, funny, serious, and villainous parts. Now I look for something that challenges me in an unexpected way,” he noted.

Paresh Rawal also commented on the changing landscape of Hindi cinema, praising the rise of realistic storytelling but warning against formula-driven filmmaking. “Audiences are smart now. They can’t be fooled with glamour or big names alone. Every film has to connect emotionally. Sometimes, filmmakers forget that, and that’s when even big projects fail,” he said.

As for Drishyam 3, production is reportedly in advanced stages, and the film is slated for a 2025 release. Director Abhishek Pathak has teased that the final installment will “tie up all loose ends” and offer closure to fans who have followed the series since its inception.

Meanwhile, Paresh Rawal continues to stay busy with a range of projects across film and theatre. He will next be seen in Welcome to the Jungle, the third film in the Welcome comedy series, alongside Akshay Kumar, Sanjay Dutt, and Suniel Shetty. The actor also hinted that he is developing a personal project for stage — a dramatic performance that will explore political satire in contemporary India.

“I’ve always believed that art should reflect life,” he said. “And right now, India is full of stories waiting to be told — funny, tragic, and inspiring all at once. My next challenge is to bring those stories alive.”

Bette Midler Says the ‘Hocus Pocus 3’ Script Is ‘Brilliant’

by jummy84 October 18, 2025
written by jummy84

Bette Midler is updating fans on the progress of “Hocus Pocus 3.”

During a recent appearance on “Watch What Happens Live,” the “Beaches” star shared that the “Hocus Pocus 3” producers are currently ironing out “all the those logistical things” before shooting begins. She also revealed that she recently read an early draft of the script and thought it was “brilliant.”

“Well, you know, they sent a script, and a lot of it was brilliant,” she said. “So I got very excited, and now we’re trying to figure out what it is and where it’s going to be and how much it’s going to cost and all those logistical things.”

The last time Midler discussed the “Hocus Pocus 3” script was in July 2024. During an appearance on the QVC+ talk show “Busy This Week,” she urged Disney to speed up development on the long-awaited sequel.

“I haven’t seen the script, but I’ve heard rumblings,” Midler said at the time. “I think if they’re gonna, they oughta, because time is not just marching, time is barrel-assing to the finish line. Get us while we’re still breathing, I mean, God!”

Former president of Walt Disney Pictures Sean Bailey revealed that “‘Hocus Pocus 3’ is happening” in a 2023 profile with the New York Times. The first film, released in 1993, starred Midler alongside Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy as a trio of witches who return from the 17th century to cause havoc in modern-day Salem. Parker and Najimy are expected to return for the third film.

“Hocus Pocus 2” became Disney+’s most-watched original film ever after its 2022 release, with 2.7 billion minutes watched over its opening weekend.

Jeremy Allen White Has Read the Script for ‘The Social Network’ Sequel

by jummy84 September 29, 2025

The 63rd New York Film Festival brought The Boss to Alice Tully Hall for the NYC premiere of “Springsteen: Deliver Me From Nowhere.” Jeremy Allen White transforms into iconic rocker Bruce Springsteen for the biopic, which is set in the early ’80s during the recordings of “Born in the USA” and “Nebraska,” and co-stars Jeremy Strong, Paul Walter Hauser, Marc Maron, Gaby Hoffmann, and Odessa Young.

We caught up with White on the red carpet, who will soon go into production for the sequel to “The Social Network,” titled “The Social Reckoning.” “I have read the script, but I can’t tell you anything,” White told IndieWire. As for whether he has connected with writer and director Aaron Sorkin, White said, “Yeah, of course.” He will also reunite with Strong in this film. “I feel like every October Jeremy and I should do a movie together,” he joked.

Last week we asked Andrew Garfield, star of the first film, if there was any chance he would return for this one. “No, no,” Garfield told IndieWire. “Eduardo [Saverin] is in Singapore having a good time.” And is the actor excited to eventually see it? “Oh yeah.”

The film will open in theaters on October 9, 2026. And alongside White and Jeremy Strong as Mark Zuckerberg, Mikey Madison and Bill Burr will also star. Sorkin’s original screenplay for the film tells the true story of how Frances Haugen (Madison), a young Facebook engineer, enlists the help of Jeff Horwitz (White), a Wall Street Journal reporter, to go on a dangerous journey that ends up blowing the whistle on the social network’s most guarded secrets.

But Sunday night at NYFF was all about all things Springsteen. In David Ehrlich’s review for “Deliver Me from Nowhere,” he writes that it “is a semi-desolate sketch of a biopic about a depressed 32-year-old man who channel surfs across a much better movie on TV one night in the fall of 1981. The man is Bruce Springsteen (a possessed Jeremy Allen White), the movie is Terrence Malick’s “Badlands,” and its story of a Korean War vet who takes his 15-year-old girlfriend on a killing spree across the American heartland gives the wayward rock god a newfound sense of direction that just might save his life.”

It is the latest musical biopic starring an in-demand rising actor: “A Complete Unknown” landed a slew of Academy noms, including a Best Actor nod for Timothée Chalamet as Bob Dylan. The four-part Beatles biopic is also in the works, with Paul Mescal as Paul McCartney, Joseph Quinn as George Harrison, Barry Keoghan as Ringo Starr, and Harris Dickinson as John Lennon.

20th Century Studios will release “Deliver Me from Nowhere” in theaters on Friday, October 24. Check out the trailer here.

Salman Khan On Older Heroines Romancing Younger Men: 'Aisi Script Hi Kitni Aati Hain?'

Salman Khan On Older Heroines Romancing Younger Men: ‘Aisi Script Hi Kitni Aati Hain?’

by jummy84 September 27, 2025
written by jummy84

Superstar Salman Khan recently weighed in on a persistent debate within the entertainment industry: the double standard concerning age gaps in on-screen romances. He specifically addressed the differing perceptions when male actors romance younger heroines versus when older female actors romance younger heroes. This candid discussion took place on the premiere episode of Twinkle Khanna’s new chat show, Two Much With Kajol & Twinkle, where both Salman Khan and Aamir Khan appeared as guests, offering rare insights into their perspectives on casting dynamics.

The conversation was sparked by a direct question from Kajol, who challenged the prevailing industry norms. She asked, “When the hero romances a younger woman, it’s called ‘cinema magic’. But when an older heroine romances a younger man, it’s called ‘bold’. Why do you think that is?” This query highlighted a widely acknowledged disparity in Bollywood, where age-appropriate pairings for women are often scrutinized more harshly than those for men. Aamir Khan, known for his thoughtful responses, initially suggested a merit-based approach, stating that for him, casting “should be done based on requirement,” implying that the role’s demands should dictate the age of the actors.

Salman Khan, however, offered a more nuanced and practical perspective. He began by citing examples of iconic actresses who, in his view, could still carry age-defying roles. “See, depending, like there was Sridevi. If she’d have kept on working, she could have still done. Madhuri can still play if there’s a role,” he said, referencing the timeless appeal and acting prowess of these legendary stars. He then alluded to the common industry practice of seeking fresh pairings for cinematic appeal. “If there’s a younger girl and if an upcoming star or a star or the producer or the director says, ‘Mujhe ye chahiye (I want him).’” This pointed to the commercial considerations and the desire for novelty that often influence casting decisions, especially for male leads.

He further elaborated on the perceived age of on-screen pairings: “Ab itna kaam kar liya hain hum sab logone ki wo jodi purani lagti hain (We have worked together so much now that the pair looks old). So for a freshness in a film, that’s when you take up somebody else who you have not worked with that much.” Kajol quickly interjected, highlighting the core of the problem: “It doesn’t work in the opposite way, though.”

Salman Khan Accepts the Reality, but with a Caveat

Salman Khan acknowledged Kajol’s point but then shifted the focus to the availability of suitable scripts for older female leads romancing younger men. “But aesi script hi kitni aati hain aap logo ke paas (But how many such scripts do you guys get)?” he countered. He suggested that if compelling narratives were to emerge, the audience would be receptive. “I don’t think if the film is good and the story is woven around something like that, an older woman and a younger man, I don’t think anyone would mind that.” His argument implies that the scarcity of such stories, rather than audience intolerance, might be a significant factor.

Historically, the number of Hindi films featuring an older female actor romancing a younger male lead is considerably smaller than the reverse. However, there are notable exceptions that have challenged the norm: Army (1996), Dil Chahta Hai (2001), Shabd (2005), Kismat Konnection (2008), Wake Up Sid (2009), Ek Main Aur Ekk Tu (2012), Ae Dil Hai Mushkil, Fitoor, and Ki & Ka (2016), among many others. These films, while fewer in number, represent a gradual shift towards more diverse portrayals of romance on screen.

Conversely, films featuring older male actors romancing much younger actresses have been a consistent staple in Bollywood for decades. Numerous actors, including Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, and Sunny Deol, have been part of such pairings. Iconic examples include Deewar (1975), Dayavan (1988), Bol Radha Bol (1992), Gadar Ek Prem Katha (2001), Hey Ram (2002), Om Shanti Om (2007), Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi (2008), and Dabangg (2010). These films illustrate a long-standing trend in Bollywood that largely favors older male leads with younger female counterparts.

Salman Khan himself has worked with actresses from various generations, including his two films with Sridevi—Chandra Mukhi (1993) and Chaand Kaa Tukdaa (1994). His insights on Two Much With Kajol & Twinkle offer a rare glimpse into the complex considerations that shape casting decisions and the slow evolution of age-related dynamics in Bollywood romances.

We were to do a film after ‘Wasseypur’, Anurag felt script was not coming together: Manoj Bajpayee

by jummy84 September 9, 2025
written by jummy84

Mumbai, Anurag Kashyap was writing a film for Manoj Bajpayee after the success of his two-part epic “Gangs of Wasseypur” but he had to abandon the project after hitting a roadblock, says the actor, who shares a close friendship with the director that dates back to their first commercial hit “Satya” in 1998.

We were to do a film after ‘Wasseypur’, Anurag felt script was not coming together: Manoj Bajpayee

The Ramgopal Varma-directed film, which Kashyap wrote, launched Bajpayee into stardom as Bhiku Mhatre. They went on to work on “Kaun” and “Shool” but misunderstanding kept them from working together for several years.

Years later, Kashyap and Bajpayee reunited for the director’s “Gangs of Wasseypur” .

“There was too much misunderstanding, which got cleared up only after we decided to work on ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’. But it was a loss not only for both of us but also for our audience because we could really create a lot of magic together. We understood each other, we were just right for each other, and ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ proved it right,” Bajpayee told PTI in an interview.

But it has been thirteen years since “Wasseypur”, did they not discuss another collaboration?

“We were discussing a film very seriously. But Anurag being Anurag, he is very unpredictable, and I accept him in all of his flaws, that’s the kind of relationship I’ve with him. He realised that he is not being able to do justice to it as a writer, so we stopped,” the actor said.

Bajpayee has not lost hope about Kashyap starting the project again but wouldn’t actively follow its development.

“Let’s see, one fine morning he will get up and he will have his script. I don’t put any pressure on him at all. He is that kind of a person who is never easy with compulsions whether emotional, physical or financial.”

Now Kashyap has turned presenter for Bajpayee’s new project “Jugnuma”, which has been directed by Raam Reddy.

“He saw the film at the New York Film festival, and he was blown away by the film. And he decided to support the film, and put his name on the poster. He got a few of the exciting filmmakers, big names from South India like Vetri Maaran, Nag Ashwin, Lijo . All of them have seen the film and they have lent their names to it. This just tells you about the beauty of the film, and what a magical story ‘Jugnuma’ is,” he said.

According to Bajpayee, Kashyap single handedly mentored many independent films by putting his might behind the filmmakers.

“He is a very courageous guy. There are flip sides to him, there is always a dark phase that he goes through, but that’s his personality. I personally feel that he can’t create without chaos. So, his chaos is a positive indication to me that he is going to come up with something really fantastic.”

Asked if there was something that he disliked about Kashyap’s personality that he has not shared with his friend, Bajpayee said the filmmaker thrives in chaos, while he himself is highly organised.

“There are very few things that I dislike about him, like he is not tidy enough. He should be, but he refuses to be tidy. His place is always scattered, and he doesn’t like anyone to clean it. I’m a person who is very organised, so I find it very unsettling when I enter his house,” Bajpayee said.

“Jugnuma”, which is titled “The Fable” in English, is set to release in theatres this Friday.

Tom Holland Says ‘The Odyssey’ Is the ‘Best Script I’ve Ever Read’

by jummy84 September 3, 2025
written by jummy84

Tom Holland continues to heap praise upon Christopher Nolan‘s “The Odyssey,” which he wrapped production on earlier this year before kicking off filming on “Spider-Man: Brand New Day.” Holland is playing Telemachus, Odysseus’ son, in the movie. The actor recently told Agence France-Presse that Nolan’s adaptation of Homer’s epic is “the best script I’ve ever read.” No offense, Spider-Man.

“Chris [Nolan] is a real collaborator,” Holland added. “He knows what he wants… but it is not an environment where you can’t pitch ideas or build characters in certain ways.”

“The Odyssey” marks Nolan’s highly-anticipated follow-up to his Oscar winner “Oppenheimer.” Matt Damon leads the movie as Odysseus opposite a sprawling ensemble cast that includes Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Lupita Nyong’o, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron and Jon Bernthal. Holland told GQ Sports in July that filming The Odyssey” was “the job of a lifetime, without a doubt” and “the best experience I’ve had on a film set.”

“It was exciting. It was different. And I think the movie is going to be unlike anything we’ve ever seen,” Holland added at the time. “Working with Chris, getting to know him and Emma [Thomas] was absolutely fantastic. I’ve never seen someone that can work the way that they do, and there is a reason why they’re the best in the business for sure. To get a front row seat to that and to be a part of the process and to collaborate with a true master of his craft and learn from him was the best experience I’ve ever had.”

Holland previously told “Good Morning America” that getting the offer from Nolan to star in “The Odyssey” was “the phone call of a lifetime” and “reminiscent of getting the call about ‘Spider-Man’ 10 years ago. It’s an amazing thing for me. I’m super proud and I’m really, really excited.”

As for “Spider-Man,” Holland is currently in production on his fourth standalone Marvel movie as the iconic web-slinger. Overall, the movie will mark his seventh appearance in the MCU. He told AFP that it “still feels like the first time.”

“Yesterday, I was on top of a tank driving down the high street in Glasgow, in front of thousands of fans, and it was awesome,” Holland said. “It was so incredible, it was exciting, and exhilarating, and it felt fresh.”

“The Odyssey” is set for release on July 17 from Universal Pictures. “Spider-Man: Brand New Day” follows on July 31 from Sony.

Iceland’s Björn Hlynur Haraldsson to Direct ‘Klara’ From a Sjón Script

by jummy84 August 20, 2025
written by jummy84

Top Icelandic actor-writer-producer Björn Hlynur Haraldsson (seen in “The Witcher,” “The Borgias,” “Lamb”), also the co-showrunner of the Series Mania winning show “Blackport,” is teaming up with “Lamb” co-writer Sjón on the Icelandic romantic tragedy “Klara.”

Showcased this week at Haugesund’s Nordic Co-Production Market, the project is being produced by Iceland’s leading talent hub Vesturport, in co-production with the U.K.’s Boom Films, run by Noomi Rapace agent Stella Harnström.

Oscar-nominated for his lyrics of Lars von Trier’s “Dancer in the Dark,” and co-writer of the epic “The Northman” with Robert Eggers, Sjón also serves as producer, together with Vesturport’s Rakel Gardarsdóttir and Agústa M. Ólafsdóttir.

Set in the early 1940s, the story turns on a female medium with a unique connection to the supernatural who approaches a grieving husband and police detective in Reykjavik, promising him news from the afterlife.

The seed for “Klara” came from an actual case in Iceland in the early 1940s involving a celebrated medium whose life intersected with crime, grief and wartime politics,” says Haraldsson who confesses having long harboured a fascination for “the blurred line between faith and deception, especially when people are grieving and looking for meaning.”

The multi-hyphenate talent says that after spending a decade in serialised drama “which is fantastic for character depth and long-form storytelling,” he felt “an urge to return to the concentrated power of cinema, where you can hold an audience in a single, sustained emotional and visual experience.“Klara” is the perfect bridge between those worlds: it has the layered complexity I love from television, but with the intimacy, atmosphere, and cinematic sweep of a feature film.”

Citing “the 1945 Gene-Tierney-led classic ‘Leave Her to Heaven’” as an inspiration for “the atmosphere, underlying ambiguity and lush Technicolor palette, Haraldsson says Iceland’s lavish landscape will also serve as a “vital reference – the sharp winter, the narrow wartime streets, a landscape that can shift effortlessly between beauty and menace.”

The busy actor, winner of a national Edda award for his supporting role in “Lamb,” is currently in early conversations with a few international actors for the leads, but he himself won’t play in it. “This movie requires for me to be fully behind the camera,” he says.

In Haugesund, both Haraldsson and Gardarsdóttir are on hand to find financing, co-production and distribution partners for the $5.8 million period drama. “I’m really excited about “Klara,” says the producer. “It’s such a compelling story. Everyone wonders what happens after we die, right? We’ve wrapped that universal question into a love story with thriller elements, which I think gives it a huge international appeal.”

Haraldsson, meanwhile, is preparing another commercially-oriented English-language project: “In a Lifetime,” which he’s written for Kristin Scott Thomas.

The talent collective Vesturport, which he co-founded, has several others projects spanning different formats and genres, including Season 2 of “Blackport” and “Frozen,” the musical to be staged in Copenhagen this year, according to Gardarsdóttir.

Haugesund’s New Nordic Films market runs through Aug. 22.
