Luigi Mangione, an Ivy League-educated engineer, was identified as a suspect in the fatal shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson outside an investor conference in New York City in December 2024. After a multiday manhunt, authorities arrested Mangione at a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania, where police said they recovered a gun and fake identification.

At the time of his arrest, NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny said Mangione had ties to Maryland, San Francisco, and Honolulu and no prior arrest history in New York.

“A man was taken into custody in Altoona, Pennsylvania this morning. He has been identified as Luigi Nicholas Mangione,” Kenny said in a statement at the time. “He’s a male, 26 years old, he was born and raised in Maryland. We know he has ties to San Francisco, California, and his last known address was Honolulu, Hawaii. He has no prior arrest history in New York.”

Since then, Mangione has faced charges at both the state and federal level and has pleaded not guilty. As the case continues to move through the courts with ongoing pre-trial hearings, attention has also turned to his background.

Below, take a look at Mangione’s education and work history.

Luigi Mangione Attended the Gilman School

According to multiple outlets, Mangione attended a boys’ private school in Baltimore, Maryland, called the Gilman School. The school’s website promotes, “The pursuit of excellence begins here.” Gilman’s tuition and fees for high school students starts at $37,000 per year.

CBS News reported that Mangione was the valedictorian of his graduating high school class in 2016.

In response to Mangione’s arrest, the head of Gilman, Henry P.A. Smyth, wrote in an email obtained by CNN, “This is deeply distressing news on top of an already awful situation. Our hearts go out to everyone affected.”

Mangione Studied Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania

Mangione went on to attend the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science in engineering, computer, and information science, according to a LinkedIn profile that appears to be his. Mangione also minored in mathematics.

While attending UPenn — an Ivy League school — Mangione worked as the project lead of a university video game development program from 2016 to 2020, per his LinkedIn. In 2019, he was a teaching assistant for the “head of recitation committee.”

Where Did Mangione Work?

Mangione had been working as a data engineer for TrueCar, Inc, in Santa Monica, California, for four years, according to his LinkedIn profile. However, his LinkedIn page notes that he had been living in Hawaii.

bitchy | Prince William: ‘Catherine probably does the bulk of’ the kids’ school runs

With every story I’ve written about Prince William’s Earthshot events in Brazil, my favorite comments are “so, is he going to say anything about who actually won the prizes this year?” It’s true that all of the stories about Billy’s Big Brazilian Flop Tour are centered on Billy boy himself. Bill played volleyball and looked ridiculous! Bill took a private jet to Belem! Bill set up a photo-op on a private plane to prove that he’s literate! Bill is incandescent with rage that his Brazilian Flop Tour got overshadowed! And on and on. To be fair, I do think he spent a small amount of time talking to and about the Earthshot winners, it’s just that the press didn’t cover any of it whatsoever. Well, Bill was interviewed by a local Brazilian outlet last week, and the interview is just getting attention now, one week later. Instead of focusing on Earthshot or the winners, William… talked about his home life and the fakakta school run.

The Prince of Wales has discussed the challenges of answering difficult questions from his three children, Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, ten, and Prince Louis, seven, amid his wife Kate’s cancer battle. The future King, 43, opened up to Brazilian TV show host, Luciano Huck, during his trip to Rio de Janeiro last week for the Earthshot Prize Awards.

“Every family has its own difficulties and its own challenges, and I think it’s very individual as to how you deal with those problems,” William spoke candidly. “We choose to communicate a lot more with our children, that has its good things and its bad things, sometimes you feel you’re oversharing with the children when you probably shouldn’t.”

“But most of the time hiding stuff from them doesn’t work, and so explaining to them how they feel, why that’s happening, giving them other viewpoints as to why they might be feeling the way like they are, sometimes helps give them a bigger picture and they can relax more into it, rather than being really anxious about what you’re hiding from them. There can be a lot more questions than answers. It’s always a balancing act, every parent knows that, it’s about how much do I say? There’s no manual for being a parent, you’ve just got to go with it, it’s A bit of instinct.”

In the wide-ranging interview, William also spoke about the family’s home life, revealing how they fit their royal engagements around the school run and their children’s extracurricular activities saying: “Play dates, taxi driver, sports days, matches, playing in the garden when I can. School run most days, I mean Catherine and I share it, but she probably does the bulk of it.”

And while he’s previously spoken about the children not having mobile phones, he wants to approach technology with caution.

“It is really hard. Our children don’t have phones,” he explained. “When George moves onto secondary school, maybe he’ll have one with limited access. We talk to him and explain why we don’t think it’s right. With full access, children end up seeing things on the internet that they shouldn’t. But with restricted access, I think it’s good for messaging.”

[From Hello]

We’ll get to his quotes in a moment, and I understand he was just answering the questions asked, but wow, everything about his Earthshot press just emphasizes the fact that this is all a vanity project for him and an excuse to center himself constantly. Why the f–k are you talking about the school run to a Brazilian media outlet in the middle of an Earthshot trip? As for the quotes… I think it’s fine that he’s talking about how his kids don’t have phones, and I also think that flip-phones need to make a comeback. And if Kate is doing the bulk of the school runs, then what is William doing during all of his time “off”? Why can he only do one day of work a week if Kate is the one on the school run? All of the family communication stuff is whatever, all of it so obviously a lie. Mark my words, Carole Middleton is the one explaining stuff to those kids.

Did Kim Kardashian Go to Law School or Get a Bachelor’s Degree? – Hollywood Life

Kim Kardashian’s journey to becoming a lawyer has been one of her most talked-about transformations—and for good reason. It hasn’t been an easy path, but she’s been open about every step of it. On her Instagram Stories on November 8, 2025, Kim revealed that she did not pass the California Bar Exam she took in July, writing, “Well… I’m not a lawyer yet, I just play a very well-dressed one on TV.”

She continued, “Six years into this law journey, and I’m still all in until I pass the bar. No shortcuts, no giving up — just more studying and even more determination. Thank you to everyone who has supported and encouraged me along the way so far. Failing short isn’t failure — it’s fuel. I was so close to passing the exam and that only motivates me even more. Let’s go!!!!!!!!!!!”

The reality star and business mogul—who first rose to fame on Keeping Up With the Kardashians—has spent the past several years studying law through California’s Law Office Study Program, an apprenticeship-based alternative to traditional law school. Balancing her studies with motherhood, entrepreneurship, and fame, Kim remains determined to achieve her legal dreams. As she pushes forward, fans are once again asking: Did Kim ever go to law school? Does she have a college degree? Here’s what to know about her education and where she stands now.

How Many Times Has Kim Kardashian Taken the Bar Exam?

Kim has taken California’s “baby bar” exam (the First-Year Law Student’s Examination) four times, failing the first three attempts before passing in December 2021.

When it comes to the full California Bar Exam, Kim has only taken it once so far, sitting for the test in July 2025.

Did Kim Kardashian Go to Law School?

No. Kim did not attend a traditional law school. Instead, she pursued her legal training through California’s Law Office Study Program (an apprenticeship model) beginning in 2018.

In May 2025 she announced she had “graduated” from her program after six years of study, but this is not a law-school degree.

Does Kim Kardashian Have a Bachelor’s Degree?

No, Kim does not hold a bachelor’s degree. She did not complete a traditional undergraduate program before embarking on her legal apprenticeship.

What Score Do You Need to Pass the Bar Exam?

In California, the passing score for the full Bar Exam is about 1440 out of 2000 (though the exact cut-score varies slightly each exam and year). For the “baby bar” (FYLSX) that Kim took, reports say you need around 560 points to pass.

Slovenian School Choir Drama ‘Little Trouble Girls’ Official US Trailer

“Human touch is transient. God’s touch lasts.” I don’t know about that? Kino Lorber debuted the official US trailer for a Slovenian indie drama titled Little Trouble Girls, which is getting a small release in limited theaters later this year. Hailing from the Eastern European country of Slovenia, Little Trouble Girls is made by Urška Djukić and it played at the Berlin, Tribeca, Sydney, Karlovy Vary, Melbourne, and Edinburgh Film Festivals this year. 16-year-old Lucia joins Catholic school choir, befriends senior Ana-Maria. During choir retreat at convent, Lucia’s attraction to a restoration worker creates tension with Ana-Maria and challenges her faith. This stunning coming-of-age feature debut by this Slovenian filmmaker won Best Cinematography at Tribeca. Starring Jara Sofija Ostan, Mina Svajger, and Sasa Tabakovió. Early reviews state the film “echoes the sensitivities of Céline Sciamma’s early coming-of-age stories but with a bold, cinematic bent.” Worth adding to the watchlist if you’re into discovering new filmmaking from around the world. View below.

Here’s the official trailer (+ poster) for Urška Djukić’s film Little Trouble Girls, direct from YouTube:

At her mother’s urging, introverted 16-year-old Lucia (Jara Sofija Ostan) joins her Catholic school’s all-girls choir, where she befriends Ana-Maria (Mina Svajger), a popular older student. When the choir goes to a countryside convent for a weekend retreat of intensive rehearsals, Lucia navigates the unfamiliar surroundings, complex teenage social structures, and her own awakening sexuality. A series of initiations, including an eye-opening experience with a handsome construction worker, test Lucia’s friendship with Ana-Maria and the other girls, as she begins to question her beliefs and disrupt the harmony within the choir. Little Trouble Girls is directed by Slovenian filmmaker Urska Djukic, making her feature directorial debut after a few other short films. The screenplay is by Urska Djukic and Marina Gumzi; with support from Maria Bohr and Geoffroy Grison. Produced by David Cej and Jozko Rutar. This initially premiered at the 2025 Berlin & Tribeca Film Festivals earlier this year. Kino Lorber releases Djukic’s Little Trouble Girls in select US theaters starting on December 5th, 2025 later in the year. For more info, visit their official site.

bitchy | George Clooney: ‘I have normalcy, I drive my kids to school every morning’

by jummy84 October 5, 2025
written by jummy84

This week, George Clooney has been promoting Jay Kelly, his latest film. It’s directed by Noah Baumbach and I read one scathing review of it at the Daily Beast. The review notes that the film is “saccharine, toothless, and cheesily meta” and it’s “straining to thread a needle so that it bittersweetly laments its A-lister’s shortcomings while nonetheless forgiving him for them.” And on top of all that, Laura Dern plays Jay Kelly’s publicist. HARD PASS. Anyway, I wanted to note something I was thinking about as Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban’s marriage suddenly crashed and burned this week: one week ago, I definitely would have said that the Clooneys are much more likely to split than Keith and Nicole. Especially given the vibe around George and Amal for the past year. But according to George, everything is going swimmingly in his marriage and his family. From some of his assorted interviews:

His routines: “I have normalcy. You know, I drive my kids to school every morning. I have normalcy — except for this [premiere]!”

He isn’t suffering from a “what does it all mean” crisis like Jay Kelly: “There wasn’t that many similarities, in a weird way. Because he’s a guy who’s just so sad about his career and his life because he didn’t have friends and family, and he surrounds himself with people that just, he paid. I’ve been very lucky to have great family and great friends, and my kids actually like me still. They’re young.”

His big life lesson: “The greatest lesson I learned is to marry the right person, which I did. And so, it has been nothing but an honor and a pleasure to be married to my wife.” George, 64, also shared that he and Amal, 47, marked their latest anniversary by going out to dinner together.

[From People Magazine]

The bloody school run! Did I miss a memo or something? When did “the school run” become the sole barometer for “a humbling experience and an equalizer among men?” The way Prince William goes on and on about the school run, you’d think it was the most important aspect of parenthood. As for his marriage… well, who knows. I certainly wouldn’t want to be married to a ratf-cking drama queen, but Amal certainly appears to be in it for the long haul.

8. The sibling rivalry was just as real off-screen as it was on-screen for Ashley and Lucas…at least at first. “We were not close. We were not good friends…we hated each other,” Ashley admitted during a video she recorded with Lucas for her YouTube channel. Lucas added that the pair “didn’t get off on the best foot” when they started filming the first movie, but eventually became close friends. How fabulous!

9. In an interview with Buzzfeed, Lucas revealed he pushed for Ryan’s sexuality to be explored early on. “After reading the script, the first thing I said to [Kenny Ortega] was, ‘OK, Kenny, Ryan’s gay, right? I know it’s Disney Channel so I’m not really gonna be gay, but I mean, yeah, right?’ And he’s like, ‘Well, think of it this way: You have the opportunity to play a character who’s young, he’s into theater, he’s an artist and let’s go at it from that point of view,'” Lucas explained. “He talked to me about his own life and he was like, ‘I see a lot of myself in Ryan. Yeah, I knew I was gay in high school, but I didn’t tell anybody.’ It was about making it real.”

Most popular Indian film of 21st century isn’t Baahubali, Dangal, RRR, Lagaan, K3G; part of school curriculum abroad

The Internet Movie Database (IMDb) unveiled its report on 25 years of Indian cinema, chronicling the biggest trends in Indian cinema since 2000. The report, which coincides with 25 years of IMDb’s entry in India, looks at the most searched celebs and films from India from 2000-2025, and deduces the top trends in India’s entertainment industry during the period. One of the findings of the report has been the rise of crossover films from Indian cinema, ones that find fans overseas and just not from the Indian diaspora. This has led to some films developing sizable popularity globally, and the biggest of them all is an Aamir Khan blockbuster.

A still from Rajkumar Hirani’s Aamir Khan-starrer, 3 Idiots.

IMDb’s most popular Indian film of 21st century

The report’s ‘India’s Global Moment’ section notes how Indian films are increasingly finding audiences overseas. In this regard, the report plots a graph on Indian films’ popularity worldwide, measuring it on two axes: global page views and the percentage of views from non-Indian audiences.

On both parameters, one Bollywood film reigns supreme – Rajkumar Hirani’s 3 Idiots. The 2009 film has a perfect 100 score on the global popularity index, signifying its near-universal global popularity. That much is evident by the fact that 3 Idiots is the highest-ranked Indian film in the IMDb Top 250, a list of its top-ranked films. 3 Idiots also scores high among no-Indian audiences, with over 80% of its page views coming from outside India. The only other Indian films with that sort of international appeal are Taare Zameen Par, My Name is Khan, Monsoon Wedding, and The Lunchbox. But none of those films has a global popularity rating of even 60. Other popular films that score high on both indexes include Dangal, RRR, and PK.

“Few movies truly deserve the title of crossover hits, and this quadrant is dominated by Aamir Khan movies,” IMDb notes, “His dominance proves the might of culturally Indian yet emotionally universal storytelling in the global arena.”

The legacy of 3 Idiots

Released in 2009, 3 Idiots was among the first modern Indian films to get a sizable non-Indian audience beyond Russia and China. It had an overseas gross of $30.5 million, a record for an Indian film at the time, with record-breaking collections in the US and Australia. But its biggest win was breaking through in newer markets like Taiwan and South Korea. In the former, it even beat the collections of James Cameron’s Avatar.

In China, the film was a huge hit and cultural phenomenon, with many Chinese universities even prescribing the film in their coursework as a kind of stress-relief in their classrooms.

3 Idiots also starred R Madhavan. Sharman Joshi, Boman Irani, Kareena Kapoor, Omi Vaidya, and Mona Singh. The film was the highest-grossing Indian film at the time, a record that was eventually broken by Dhoom 3 in 2013.

What does it take to survive in the US Navy and Marine Corps’ toughest fighter pilot school?

You’ll watch them take on breathtaking bombing tests, learn to master aircraft carrier landings, face seasoned instructors in head-to-head dogfights, and tackle the intense final week before graduation. Every episode promises edge-of-your-seat action, so strap in and get ready to experience the adrenaline firsthand.

Go inside the cockpit

For the first time in history, the US Navy and Marines have granted filming access to their fast jet training bases, giving you up-close access to the final gruelling six months of training and selection through cockpit, training centre and in-flight footage. What’s more, the aerial team behind the footage includes Kevin LaRosa, Aerial Coordinator and Lead Camera Pilot for Top Guns: Maverick – who is no stranger to bringing high-speed, high-stakes drama to your screen.

From the classroom to the cockpit, you’ll witness what it takes to earn your wings and compete for the chance to one day fly the world’s only long-range stealth strike fighter: the F-35.

Meet the next generation

Four fighter pilots walking out of an aircraft hangar

Becoming an elite strike fighter pilot is the ultimate test of skill, nerve and speed, bringing immense challenges. Trainees dive at speeds they’ve never experienced before, wrestle with high-risk manoeuvres and face intense physical and mental strain. Some struggle to control their instincts or cope under pressure, while others rise to the occasion.

But it’s not just about flying. Away from their training, students also juggle the weight of family expectations, the sacrifices of loved ones and the rivalries and friendships that shape their journey. For many, past failures and personal struggles follow them into the cockpit, making each flight as much a test of character as it is of skill.

This series follows the trainees not just in their training, but in their lives beyond it – from moments of triumph to crises of confidence. Only the strongest will succeed, and not all will make it to graduation, so every manoeuvre could be the difference between earning their wings or leaving their dream career behind.

Top Guns: The Next Generation starts at 9pm on Sunday 21 September

Available to watch on the National Geographic channel (Sky 129 | Virgin Media 183)
