Regina Hall Says Reuniting With the Wayans & Anna Faris Made ‘Scary Movie 6’ an Easy Yes

@the.jasmine.brand: Regina Hall says stepping back into the role of Brenda Meeks for “Scary Movie 6” felt natural once she realized the franchise’s original team was coming back together. The actress explained that reading the script confirmed the film was headed in the right direction.

“I read the script — and it was really funny. I knew what they were intending to do,” Hall said, noting that movies often evolve as they’re being made. “I always think a work of art is in flux until it’s done and in someone’s hands — you just never know.”

For Hall, the biggest excitement came from the reunion. “But the original cast coming back was exciting. Having the Wayans involved again, and Anna Faris too — Brenda can’t live without Cindy,” she shared, referencing Faris’ longtime role as Cindy Campbell. Hall joked that despite the time that’s passed, Brenda still isn’t a better friend: “And she’s no better a friend to Cindy this time than she was before, even though they’re still best friends.”

Hall added that the timing and nostalgia surrounding the comeback made the decision feel right. “It was a good time to do something so broad and fun,” she explained. After reading the new script, she immediately thought, “This is funny.” She also believes audiences are ready for the movie’s tone: “I think something is refreshing about doing something a little bit irreverent right now.”

Scary Good: How Hollywood’s Most Talented Costume Designers Bring Horror Films to Life

by jummy84 October 9, 2025
written by jummy84

Later this month, Vogue World: Hollywood will take place on the iconic Paramount Pictures Studio lot in Los Angeles. The show will celebrate the rich conversation between film and fashion, while featuring the work of renowned Hollywood costume designers such as Colleen Atwood, Ruth E. Carter, Arianne Phillips, and more. In anticipation of the grand event (and in honor of spooky season) we couldn’t help but think of the role costume design has played in horror films over the years. Sure, more glamorous or historically-accurate fashion may come to mind when you think of costuming for the big screen, but for those who have leaned into more macabre creations, the end results have been just as thrilling.

If you think about it, strong costumes are a must for a well-executed scary movie (though a great score and special effects will help, too). For years, costumers have been creating spooky serial killers—from Ghostface to Michael Myers—and conjuring up original designs that remain seared into our brains (and promt some of us to look under the bed each night). Take the hockey mask-wearing Jason, or Freddy Krueger in his striped Christmas sweater and knives-for-fingers. Both came to fruition thanks to a costume designer.

“No one is coming! They’re all dead!” Yep – probably true. Signature Ent. has launched an official trailer for a scary horror thriller creature feature called Scurry, made by Australian filmmaker Luke Sparke. This is the same guy who also made the dinosaurs in Vietnam War movie Primitive War also out this year. Though Scurry was actually made and premiered before that one – it opened in Australia last year. But it’s just now showing up outside of Australia and will be out on VOD in the UK soon + hopefully in the US, too. When an unthinkable attack devastates their city, two strangers find themselves trapped beneath the chaos, wounded and disoriented. As they fight to survive in a narrowing underground tunnel, their injuries worsen, and their chances of escape dwindle. But something else is lurking in the darkness, something relentless and hungry. Shot in real-time using a single continuous take, Scurry delivers a gripping, claustrophobic experience that will keep audiences on edge until the very last moment. Starring Jamie Costa and Emalia. As someone on YT commented, this kinda has a low budget Tremors vibe, but the creatures are even scarier in here. Enjoy.

Here’s the official UK trailer (+ poster) for Luke Sparke’s horror film Scurry, direct from YouTube:

“From the moment I first envisioned Scurry, I knew I wanted to create an experience that would keep audiences on the edge of their seats—something fast, relentless, and deeply immersive. Creature features have always held a special place in cinema, blending tension, survival, and awe-inspiring spectacle. With Scurry, I wanted to bring a fresh, visceral energy to the genre while staying true to what makes these films so thrilling: the fear of the unknown, the power of nature, and the resilience of the human spirit.” –Director Luke Sparke

Scurry is directed by the Australian genre filmmaker Luke Sparke, director of the films Red Billabong, Occupation, Occupation: Rainfall, Devil Beneath, Bring Him to Me, Primitive War previously. The screenplay is written by Tom Evans. It’s produced by Carmel Imrie and Carly Sparke. This first premiered at the 2024 Sydney Science Fiction Film Festival last year. Signature Ent. will debut Sparke’s Scurry movie direct-to-VOD in the UK starting on October 3rd, 2025 this fall. Who wants to watch this?

“6 new tapes.” What’s on them? Find out in October… Shudder has revealed the full official trialer for the next horror anthology offering in this series – it’s titled V/H/S/Halloween with freaky Halloween-themed stories this time. Another six horror film segments are included in this one, which will be streaming in early October. “It’s a spook-tacular anthology the whole family can enjoy…” This is the 8th V/H/S movie, which launched in 2012 and most recently included V/H/S/Beyond just last year. The segments in this collection are by filmmakers Bryan M. Ferguson, Casper Kelly, Micheline Pitt-Norman, R.H. Norman, Alex Ross Perry, Paco Plaza, Anna Zlokovic. Reviews from Fantastic Fest are very positive, saying this is a “kick-ass adrenaline pumping treat for horror fans” although it goes really hard on the shock value this time. Check it out below.

Another Scary Trailer for ‘Good Boy’ Doggie Supernatural Horror Film

“Not only has the scares but also a massive heart.” Indy the Dog!! 🐕 IFC Films has debuted another trailer for one of this year’s major indie horror breakouts titled Good Boy, a horror film told from the perspective of the “good boy” family dog. This is ready to hit theaters starting in early October as perfect horror season entertainment. The debut feature by filmmaker Ben Leonberg, this first premiered at the 2025 SXSW Film Festival earlier in the year. A loyal doggie named Indy moves to a rural home with his owner Todd, only to discover supernatural forces lurking in the shadows. As dark entities threaten his human companion, the brave pup must fight to protect the one he loves most. Good Boy stars Indy the Dog as Indy, with Larry Fessenden, Arielle Friedman, Shane Jensen, Anya Krawcheck, & Stuart Rudin. The reviews are pretty good, but don’t expect this to be the best horror film ever made. It’s really all about the pooch and his amazing time starring on screen in this – saving the day and fighting off ghosts. I can’t wait to watch! Enjoy.

Here’s the second trailer (+ poster) for Ben Leonberg’s horror film Good Boy, direct from IFC’s YouTube:

Good Boy Trailer

Good Boy Poster

You can rewatch the first official trailer for Ben Leonberg’s Good Boy film right here for even more footage.

Our canine hero, Indy, finds himself on a new adventure with his human owner—and best friend—Todd, leaving city life for a long-vacant family home in the country. From the start, two things are abundantly clear: Indy is wary of the creepy old house, and his affection for Todd is unwavering. After moving in, Indy is immediately vexed by the empty corners, tracks an invisible presence only he can see, perceives phantasmagoric warnings from a long-dead dog, and is haunted by visions of the previous occupant’s grim death. When Todd begins succumbing to the dark forces swirling around the house, Indy must battle a malevolence intent on dragging his beloved Todd into the afterlife… Good Boy is directed by American indie genre filmmaker Ben Leonberg, making his feature directorial debut after many other short films previously. The screenplay is written by Alex Cannon and Ben Leonberg. Produced by Ben Leonberg & Kari Fischer. This first premiered at the 2025 SXSW Film Festival earlier this year. IFC Films opens Leonberg’s Good Boy film in select US theaters starting on October 3rd, 2025 this fall. Who’s ready to watch this? 🐶

Scary Full Trailer for ‘Monster: The Ed Gein Story’ with Charlie Hunnam

“You’re the one who can’t look away…” Netflix has revealed the full official trailer for the scary new horror series titled Monster: The Ed Gein Story, the third season of Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan’s ongoing “Monster” series for Netflix. This time they’re focusing on the infamous, iconic serial killer known as Ed Gein, the basis for Hitchcock’s Psycho and Hooper’s Texas Chain Saw Massacre (and many other horror stories). This is a fictionalized version of his real story, embellished to make into a Netflix series, not a true crime doc – starring Charlie Hunnam as Eddie Gein. Hunnam adds: “This is going to be the really human, tender, unflinching, no-holds-barred exploration of who Ed was and what he did. But who he was being at the center of it, rather than what he did.” Murphy adds: “The thesis of every season is: are monsters born or are they made? I think in Ed’s case, it’s probably a little of both.” Monster: The Ed Gein Story tells the story of how one simple man in Plainfield, WI became history’s most singular ghoul. He revealed to the world the most horrific truth of all: monsters aren’t born, they’re made… by us. Also stars Tom Hollander, Laurie Metcalf, & Suzanna Son. Plus: Vicky Krieps, Olivia Williams, Lesley Manville, Joey Pollari, Charlie Hall, Tyler Jacob Moore, Mimi Kennedy, Will Brill, Robin Weigert. This looks freaky! Hunnam looks quite scary…

Here’s the two trailers (+ posters) for Netflix’s horror series Monster: The Ed Gein Story, via YouTube:

Monster: The Ed Gein Story Poster

Monster: The Ed Gein Story Poster

“You’re the one that can’t look away.” Serial killer. Grave robber. Psycho. In the frozen fields of 50s rural Wisconsin, a friendly, mild-mannered recluse named Eddie Gein (starring Charlie Hunnam) lived quietly on a decaying farm – hiding a house of horrors so gruesome it would redefine the American nightmare. Driven by isolation, psychosis & an all-consuming obsession with his mother, Ed’s perverse crimes birthed a new kind of monster that would haunt Hollywood for decades. From Psycho to The Texas Chainsaw Massacre to The Silence of the Lambs, Gein’s macabre legacy gave birth to fictional monsters born in his image and ignited a cultural obsession with the criminally deviant. Ed Gein didn’t just influence a genre — he became the blueprint for modern horror. Monster: The Ed Gein Story (and the on-going “Monster” series) is created by storytellers Ryan Murphy & Ian Brennan (“Glee”, “Scream Queens”, “Hollywood”, “The Politician”, “Ratched”, “The Watcher”). With episodes written and directed by Ian Brennan; and other episodes directed by filmmaker Max Winkler. Exec produced by Ryan Murphy, Ian Brennan, Max Winkler, Eric Kovtun, Scott Robertson, Nissa Diederich, Louise Shore, Carl Franklin, Charlie Hunnam. Netflix will debut Monster: The Ed Gein Story series streaming on Netflix starting on October 3rd, 2025 coming up.

Very Scary Trailer #2 for Ethan Hawke’s ‘Black Phone 2’ Horror Sequel

“It took me a long time… but you of all people know ‘dead’ is just a word.” Universal has unveiled the scary second trailer for the highly anticipated sequel Black Phone 2, the horror follow-up to C. Robert Cargill & Scott Derrickson’s film The Black Phone which opened 2022. This one will land in theaters starting in this middle of October during the spooky season. The story of the masked man ain’t over yet. 4 years ago, 13-year-old Finn killed his abductor & escaped, now the sole survivor of The Grabber. But true evil transcends death… and the phone is ringing again. Will you answer? Following the blockbuster success of Blumhouse’s 2022 horror hit, which earned more than $160M worldwide and global acclaim, Universal announces the launch of a sinister new franchise with the release of Black Phone 2. “The Grabber” has big plans? Ethan Hawke, Mason Thames, Madeleine McGraw, Jeremy Davies, and Miguel Mora all return for this sequel, again directed by Scott Derrickson. Damn this looks crazy! They’re definitely riffing on A Nightmare on Elm Street with a dash of Dream Warriors thrown in. I really dig the snowy cold setting for this sequel.

Here’s the second official trailer for Scott Derrickson’s horror sequel Black Phone 2, direct from YouTube:

The Black Phone 2 Trailer

The Black Phone 2 Poster

You can watch the first trailer for Derrickson’s Black Phone 2 horror movie right here for a bit more footage.

Ethan Hawke is returning to the most sinister role of his career as The Grabber seeks vengeance on Finn (Mason Thames) from beyond the grave by menacing Finn’s younger sister, Gwen (Madeleine McGraw). As Finn, now 17, struggles with life after his captivity, the headstrong 15-year-old Gwen begins receiving calls in her dreams from the black phone & seeing disturbing visions of 3 boys being stalked at a winter camp known as Alpine Lake. Determined to solve the mystery and end the torment for both her and her brother, Gwen persuades Finn to visit the camp during a winter storm. There, she uncovers a shattering intersection between The Grabber and her own family’s history. Together, she and Finn must confront a killer who has grown more powerful in death & even more significant to them than either could imagine.

Black Phone 2, originally known as The Black Phone 2, is once again directed by acclaimed American genre filmmaker Scott Derrickson, director of the films The Exorcism of Emily Rose, The Day the Earth Stood Still, Sinister, Deliver Us from Evil, Marvel’s Doctor Strange, The Black Phone, and The Gorge previously, plus an ep of “Snowpiercer” and a short in V/H/S/85. The screenplay is again written by C. Robert Cargill & Scott Derrickson. It’s produced by Jason Blum, Scott Derrickson, & C. Robert Cargill. Made by Blumhouse. Universal sends Derrickson’s Black Phone 2 in theaters nationwide starting October 17th, 2025 this fall.
