Emmerdale’s Sally Dexter on “very special” return as dead Faith Dingle

by jummy84 November 13, 2025

**Warning: This article contains spoilers for tonight’s (12th November) Emmerdale episode.**

Sally Dexter has reprised her Faith Dingle role in Emmerdale – despite the character being killed off following a terminal breast cancer diagnosis over three years ago.

It was something that both viewers and Dexter didn’t see coming, though a special standalone episode exploring recent returnee Robert Sugden’s (Ryan Hawley) time off screen was able to facilitate it.

“They’ve thrown me in prison with Robert,” Dexter explained.

“It’s a flashback episode and it’s delightful to be back doing it. Well first of all I thought, ‘How are they going to get me back?’

“I’m dead! I’ve been dead I think it’s about two years, yeah, so I had no idea what was coming.”

Faith appeared in flashback scenes.

In the instalment that aired tonight on ITV, viewers saw Faith visit Robert in prison, urging him to follow his heart and start an appeal process against his murder charge so that he could reunite with Aaron Dingle (Danny Miller).

Of course, as we know, Robert was only successful earlier in the year, and had to tell a major fib to prison hubby Kev Townsend (Chris Coghill) about why he was getting early release.

Thinking on his feet, he told Kev that sister Vic (Isabel Hodgin) had been diagnosed with a brain tumour and he needed to get home to support her. At the end of today’s episode, a bemused facial expression from Dr Liam Cavanagh (Jonny McPherson) confirmed to Kev that his beloved Suggers had been lying.

But as for Faith, is this the last we’ve seen of her?

“It’s been really enjoyable,” she explains.

“It’s lovely coming back. It’s a bit like… I don’t know, coming back to a school that you went to, like you go back to your old school or an old house that you used to live in. It feels very, very homely.

“They’re just such a lovely bunch of people here, all of them, crew and cast included.

“I have been practising my Australian accent, in case they decide that a cousin suddenly appears called Hope. And I’d put in for a blonde wig if they did.”

She also took time to reflect on her 2023 exit, and Faith’s dying days that struck a chord with fans.

“People really seem to plug into it. And I don’t blame them. It was beautifully written, and I thought Jeff [Hordley] was particularly spectacular… as he always is.

Cain and Faith Dingle look serious in Emmerdale

Sally heaped praise on her former co-star Jeff Hordley. ITV

“Damn him! No, he’s wonderful.”

The actress, who has also appeared in Poldark, Holby City and early ’00s soap Night and Day, went on to explain that her Faith role has a very personal connection.

“I’ve always said my mum was very much the person that I based her on, and unfortunately she died last year, so actually, coming back and doing her again is lovely.

“Such a joyous thing to do and I’m very grateful.

“If you haven’t seen tonight’s episode, please go and watch it. It’s very special, and to play Faith again is very, very special to me.”

Oscar-nominated star Sally Kirkland dies aged 84

11 November 2025

Oscar-nominated actress Sally Kirkland has died at the age of 84.

Sally Kirkland has passed away at the age of 84

The Hollywood star’s passing was confirmed by her representative Michael Greene on Tuesday (11.11.25) – just days after it was announced that she’d entered hospice care amid her battle with dementia.

Sally was best known for her role in the 1987 film Anna – which earned her the Oscar nod and a Golden Globe Award – and also had parts in Bruce Almighty, JFK, The Haunted and the original Charlie’s Angels TV series.

It had been revealed earlier this week that she had been diagnosed with dementia last year and was receiving hospice care in Palm Springs, California.

According to a GoFundMe page set up by friends, Kirkland had struggled with “two separate life-threatening conditions”.

A recent update to the page read: “Thank you for all your love and support. Sally is grateful for your kindness and love.

“Sally is in a hospice now and is resting comfortably. Please hold and send the light for Sally.”

The daughter of former Vogue magazine fashion editor Sally Kirkland, she appeared nude in the stage production The 13 Most Beautiful Women during the 1960s before playing Robert Redford’s love interest in the 1973 movie The Sting.

Her portrayal of the titular character in Anna earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress – which saw her up against the likes of Meryl Streep, Glenn Close and Cher.

Sally recalled in 2012: “At the Oscars, there were all these movie stars emerging from their limos, and then there was me. I felt like Cinderella.

“The greatest part was the feeling to be in the same Oscar category of these women that I was a huge fan of – Meryl, Glenn, Holly (Hunter) and Cher, who I used to roller skate with in the ’70s.”

After her awards recognition with Anna, Sally portrayed an outrageous rock star opposite Kevin Costner in Tony Scott’s 1990 movie Revenge and featured in erotic thrillers such as High Stakes and In the Heat of Passion.

Sally was married and divorced twice and taught acting to students such as Sandra Bullock. She was also an ordained minister and practiced yoga.

She once said: “My attitude is always one of sensuality, aggressive enthusiasm and kind of outrageousness in my expression.

“I suppose if I wanted to be the girl next door, I could have. I think America is a little too confused by someone who appears to be sexual and spiritual at the same time.”

Watch Role Model Bring Out Charli XCX for ‘Sally, When the Wine Runs Out’

Role Model debuts on the late night show performing his viral hit with help from the British pop star, plus another song from his latest album

Singer-songwriter Role Model debuted as Saturday Night Live musical guest with two songs from the deluxe edition of Kansas Anymore, his second studio album, which he released in February.

After an introduction from SNL host Amy Poehler, the 28-year-old Maine native opened with “Sally, When the Wine Runs Out.” In live performances of the indie pop hit, Role Model has often invited a fan, another musician, or some other special guest to play the part of Sally. Here, it was Charli XCX.

The British pop singer—SNL‘s musical guest last November—received wild screams of approval from the audience. After dancing and swirling her hair to the song’s bridge, she slid her sunglasses onto Role Model’s face, blew him a kiss, then strutted away.

Role Model’s second performance was of the more mellow “Some Protector.”

The artist, whose real name is Tucker Pillsbury, has said his latest album, which follows 2022’s Rx, is a big step forward.

“I think the one thing I wanted to prove when I first put it out was my growth — my songwriting and my taste in music had matured, and I had also matured as a person,” he told Rolling Stone in a revealing April interview. “It felt like a big shift in the way I would talk about things and write about them, and a big part of that was just me getting to a place on guitar where I could play well enough that I could write songs by myself on it.”

Role Model, who opened for Gracie Abrams last year and then headlined his No Place Like Tour this spring, will be one of the four artists at Rolling Stone‘s Musicians on Musicians live event Oct. 23 at New York’s Beacon Theatre. He will be paired with María Zardoya of the Marias, while Jack Antonoff will join Hayley Williams with Bleachers, for conversations and collaborative performances on stage. SNL‘s James Austin Johnson will host.

Role Model begins a stretch of European shows next month.

Why Sally Struthers Really Left ‘All In The Family’

by jummy84 September 28, 2025
written by jummy84

For seven seasons, Sally Struthers played Archie and Edith Bunker’s daughter Gloria Stivic on the groundbreaking series All in the Family. The role made her famous, but for Struthers, it also became confining. By the late 1970s, she was ready to move on and prove that she was more than just Gloria.

According to MeTV, Struthers told the Chicago Tribune that she was “itching to leave” the series by 1978. “I was young, energetic. I figured I could go off and do anything,” she said.

The Rumour ending explained: Who is Sally McGowan revealed to be?

by jummy84 September 19, 2025
written by jummy84

Spreading the gossip to the ultimate rumour mill (the schoolyard mums), things quickly spiralled out of control – with murders, vandalism and kidnapping taking over.

So, what is the truth? Here’s what you need to know as The Rumour comes to a dramatic end.

The Rumour ending explained: Who was Sally McGowan?

The Rumour cast (L-R) Carryl Thomas, Lucy Speed, Rachel Shenton, Emily Atack, Joanne Whalley and Ellie Haddington 5 / Clapperboard

When the rumour began to spread, the first major suspect to be Sally McGowan was Sonia, Joanna’s stand-offish next door neighbour. Joanna fuelled this by sharing Sonia had a tattoo, and her last known address was a rehab.

Things get so intense that Sonia’s shop is vandalised, prompting Sonia to viciously blame Joanna for spreading the rumour (though notably, not denying it). When a reporter breaks the news, a mob turns up at her door.

However, suspicion on Sonia is stopped quickly when she’s found dead on Halloween by Alfie while trick or treating with his mates. While it’s initially believed to be a suicide, things spiral out of control when police confirm they’re treating it as a murder.

But this does nothing but grow Joanna’s obsession with finding Sally’s identity, moving her focus to Kay, another woman in town, even cornering her with allegations – but she also isn’t Sally, and is almost killed as well.

Even when Joanna’s faced with threatening messages, and being fired from her job, she continues to dig. Ex Michael (Samuel Anderson) and mum Bea (Joanne Whalley) try to stop her, but it falls on deaf ears.

Next suspect is her mum’s partner, Liz (Ellie Haddington), after finding out about a prison painting that’s similar in style to her work as an artist. Believing the painting holds the answers, she tries to track it down.

She does finally get her answer – though it’s nothing like she imagined. When she finally gets hold of the painting, Joanna realises the signature’s handwriting is of her own mother, Bea.

At one point, Joanna even went by a different name: Lucy.

At the beginning of the finale episode, Joanna confronts her mum – and Bea confirms that she is, in fact, Sally McGowan… but she didn’t kill Sonia, and didn’t attempt to kill Kay.

Who killed Sonia?

From the second the rumour mill started, someone was clearly up to no good– starting with a sinister ‘rumours kill’ message on Joanna’s garage door, and then tipping off the journalist.

But it seems there was more than one person keeping a secret in town – and it’s revealed in the final episode that Joanna’s friend and confidante Rachel (Lucy Speed) is actually the sister of Robbie, the little boy Bea killed all those years ago.

Knowing Joanna couldn’t let it go, Rachel had befriended her to hear her theories and thoughts, and then acted upon that information in horrific ways.

Rachel killed Sonia by putting a bag over her head, and then filled Kay’s house with gas to suffocate her.

Discovering the truth – that it was Bea all along – Rachel had kidnapped Joanna’s son Alfie, and then called Bea threatening the young boy’s life, luring her to a woodland cabin she had previously shown Joanna.

How does The Rumour end?

As Bea arrived at the cabin, Joanna frantically called her wanting to know where she was – and instead of telling her, she just assured her that she would “make everything alright”.

She then met with Rachel, who had doused the cabin in petrol and knocked out Alfie with a sedative. Threatening to set the place ablaze, she commands Bea to sit down, sharing that she had been searching for her for her entire life, under the instruction of her mother, who only had her to replace Robbie after his death.

Despite Bea’s apologies, Rachel sets up a camera and demands she make a confession, explaining fully why she decided to kill Robbie, admitting that she’s evil, before killing herself and Alfie.

Thanks to one of the mums, Joanna realises she’s heading to the cabin and makes a dash for it. Sneaking into the cabin, Bea spots her and starts to deliberately antagonise Lucy, prompting her to lunge at her and start the fire.

As the pair fight, Joanna’s frozen in fear at the fire, her worst nightmare coming true. But she comes to, and makes it out of the cabin with Alfie before the entire thing collapses – her mum and Rachel still inside.

The next day, as the gossip mill continues around the town now that the truth is out, Joanna and Michael, now reconciled, pack up and leave with Alfie, ready for a completely fresh start.

Bea, who has survived, is seen living with Liz in a different country.
