Katharine, Duchess of Kent, died on September 4, 2025, after a long and fulfilling life. The late royal, who was 92, was the wife of Duke of Kent, Prince Edward, the cousin of the late Queen Elizabeth II. Though Katharine maintained a more private lifestyle than the rest of the royal family, she was known for her interests in music and tennis.

Buckingham Palace confirmed the late duchess’ death in a statement, which read, “The King and Queen and all members of the Royal Family join the Duke of Kent, his children and grandchildren in mourning their loss and remembering fondly the duchess’s life-long devotion to all the organizations with which she was associated, her passion for music and her empathy for young people.”

Hollywood Life is remembering Katharine with five facts about her below.

It is with deep sorrow that Buckingham Palace announces the death of Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Kent.

Her Royal Highness passed away peacefully last night at Kensington Palace, surrounded by her family.

Katharine Was the First Royal to Publicly Convert to Catholicism

In the mid-1990s, Katharine became the first member of the royal family to publicly convert to Catholicism since the Act of Settlement 1701, which disqualified any heir from inheriting the throne. However, Katharine was not in the line of succession, so the act didn’t affect her in any way.

Nevertheless, her religious conversion made headlines at the time. At one point, per the Mirror, she discussed her preference for guidelines, crediting the Catholic Church with having those for followers.

“I do love guidelines, and the Catholic Church offers you guidelines. I have always wanted that in my life,” Katharine previously said. “I like to know what’s expected of me. I like being told: ‘You shall go to church on Sunday and if you don’t you’re in for it!’”

Katharine Was Vocal About Her 1970s Fertility Struggles

In 1975, Katharine had a miscarriage and gave birth to a stillborn son named Patrick two years later. The latter led to depression, which she publicly acknowledged.

“It had the most devastating effect on me,” she told the Daily Telegraph in 1997. “I had no idea how devastating such a thing could be to any woman. It has made me extremely understanding of others who suffer a stillbirth. … I suffered from acute depression for a while. I think it would be a fairly rare individual who didn’t cave in under those circumstances. The baby was born dead at nine months. It was a horrible thing to happen.”

Katharine Stepped Back From Most Royal Duties in 2002

Known for defying expectations as a royal, Katharine chose to step back from her public duties in 2002. Though she didn’t avoid all related events, she did not attend Queen Elizabeth II’s funeral nor King Charles III‘s coronation.

Katharine stopped using the Her Royal Highness title, though she was still formally called HRH Duchess of Kent, as Buckingham Palace acknowledged in its announcement of her death in 2025.

Katharine Was an Avid Choir Member & Wimbledon Staple

The late Duchess of Kent performed in several choirs throughout her life as an avid singer and music enthusiast. She also became a staple at the Wimbledon Championships, presenting the Ladies’ Single Trophy to winners for more than 30 years.

Katharine Lived With a Few Health Issues Before Her Death

In addition to her miscarriage and stillbirth in the ’70s, Katharine was also hospitalized in 1978 with coeliac disease and Epstein–Barr virus, per reports from the BBC.

ROYAL KITCHEN, FORBIDDEN LOVE DIALOGUES!” – ‘Bon Appétit, Your Majesty’ On Netflix Unfolds In Time-Travel Twist | Glamsham.com

by jummy84 August 28, 2025
written by jummy84

Netflix has released the trailer for its new Korean fantasy romance drama Bon Appétit, Your Majesty, which is due to arrive globally on August 23, 2025. The show features Lim Yoon-a and Lee Chae-min and is said to combine time travel, political intrigue, and fine dining.

The trailer meets Yeon Ji-young (Lim Yoon-a), an elite French chef who finds herself inexplicably whisked 500 years into the past to the Joseon Dynasty during the peak of her culinary reign. Finding herself in a world of palace politics and strict tradition, Ji-young is tasked with cooking for demanding King Lee Heon (Lee Chae-min), who’s as much an refined epicurean as he is a menacing despot.

Promised as a “sweet and savage survival tale,” the show tells the story of Ji-young’s battle to impress the king’s discerning taste buds with contemporary cooking methods, while adjusting to a world she is unfamiliar with. The trailer features sizzling food, intense kitchen politics, and the sudden spark of romance between the monarch and the chef.

Lim Yoon-a, who appeared in King the Land and Big Mouth, sparkles as the fiery Ji-young, with Lee Chae-min (Crash Course in Romance, Hierarchy) giving a forceful performance as the moody king. Their chemistry on screen promises an interesting and emotional ride.

Sidelights are provided by Kang Han-na as the king’s long-time concubine Kang Mok-ju and Choi Gwi-hwa as Prince Je Seon, adding drama and competition.

With eye-catching visuals, a compelling time-slip premise, and Netflix’s customary high production standards, Bon Appétit, Your Majesty has the potential to be the next global K-drama phenomenon.

‘Red, White & Royal Blue’ Author Clarifies Sequel Update

by jummy84 August 22, 2025
written by jummy84

Two years later, fans of Red, White & Royal Blue might be in for a happy ending soon.

After saying at a recent event that “pencils are kind of down for now” on the sequel, the literary source material’s author Casey McQuiston clarified the phrase on social media to put fans’ minds at ease.

“I don’t know who needs to hear this, but ‘pencils down’ is a figure of speech that refers to when you’re taking the SAT or something and it’s time to put your pencil down bc the section of the test is done,” wrote McQuiston on their Instagram Story, according to DNA. “I’ve used this expression, like 100,000 times to describe the feeling of turning in a manuscript, it’s not that deep!”

Last May, Amazon MGM Studios announced they greenlighted development on the sequel after the first became Prime Video’s No. 1 movie in its global debut weekend, holding the position for three weeks.

Noting that there is no sequel to McQuiston’s original 2019 on which to base his sequel, writer-director Matthew López previously told Deadline that the author will still factor into the movie.

Matthew Lopez, Casey McQuiston, Uma Thurman, Nicholas Galitzine, Taylor Zakhar Perez, Rachel Hilson, Sarah Schechter and Greg Berlanti at the Prime Experience Deadline Portrait Studio for ‘Red, White and Royal Blue’ at Nya Studiuos on May 8, 2024 in Los Angeles, California

Michael Buckner for Deadline

“When we were starting this process, I kept saying that we’ll have succeeded at this adaptation…if you feel the same way at the end of the film, as you felt finishing the book,” said López last year. “There’s no book to guide us, but what we have is Casey’s original thoughts and original ideas.”

Taylor Zakhar Perez and Nicholas Galitzine reunite for the sequel, which also sees López returning after making his feature debut with the original, penning the followup alongside McQuiston. Berlanti Schechter Films’ Greg Berlanti and Sarah Schechter will return to produce the film, joined by the banner’s Michael McGrath, as well as López. McQuiston will executive produce.

In Red, White & Royal Blue, President Ellen Claremont’s (Uma Thurman) son Alex (Zakhar Perez) has an embarrassing encounter with Prince Henry (Galatzine), threatening US/UK relations and his mother’s reelection campaign. While attempting to clean up the bad press, the pair is forced to pretend to be best friends, during which the unlikely pair secretly falls in love.

bitchy | Royal butler: In the old days, ‘Kate and Harry would be off doing stuff together’

by jummy84 August 20, 2025
written by jummy84

There’s yet another royal book coming out from a royal sycophant. This one is by Grant Harrold, who served as King Charles’s butler at Highgrove from 2004-2011. Harrold is currently in a domestic partnership with a man who still works as a gardener for Charles as well. The book is called The Royal Butler: My remarkable life of royal service. Obviously, the only thing people care about is Harrold’s gossip about Prince Harry, Prince William and Kate. This guy has been milking his “remembrances” and gossip opinions for years by the way – he’s quoted with some regularity by the tabloids, and he usually has an anti-Sussex slant. Sounds like his book has the same bias, at least judging from the exclusive excerpt published in the Telegraph. Some highlights:

Charles’s second wedding day: The day itself, in April 2005, was the “happiest” Harrold says he ever saw the King. “At the end of the festivities, Charles and Camilla were catching a flight to head straight to Birkhall [on the Balmoral estate],” he writes in the book. “We all went outside to wave them off and laughed as we saw William and Harry had decorated their car with ‘Just Married’. As they drove off through the arches to cheers, the boys raced after the car.”

Harry’s account of Charles & Camilla’s engagement: It’s a scene that seems to contradict the account of that period in Prince Harry’s book, Spare. When it was published in 2023, tearing a hole in the Royal family which has never been repaired, it was the then Duchess of Cornwall who came out worse in the Prince’s evisceration of his family. In Spare, he told how he and William begged their father not to marry her, writing: “We support you, we said. We endorse Camilla, we said. ‘Just please don’t marry her. Just be together, Pa.’ He didn’t answer. But she answered. Straight away. Shortly after our private summits with her, she began to play the long game, a campaign aimed at marriage and eventually the Crown (with Pa’s blessing, we presumed).”

Harrold claims Charles, Camilla, William and Harry got along: “The four of them, I promise you, got on so well,” he says. “And that’s why I don’t understand what Harry’s said, I really don’t understand. Because I saw them. I saw them having dinners together, I saw them having drinks together, I saw them going to parties together.” As Harrold remembers it there was “no animosity” on display. The relationship he observed between Charles and his sons doesn’t reflect the one Harry has portrayed either. “The King used to do things to make them laugh and giggle,” he says.

Harry got along with Kate: Among the saddest aspects of this era for the Royal family is surely the apparent breakdown in the bond that used to exist between the two princes. Back then, Harrold recalls how William, Catherine and Harry used to be a little gang. “They involved him. He used to go out with Kate. William would be away and Kate and Harry would be off doing stuff together. They’d go shopping together, they’d go to pubs together. […] I think when people say ‘oh he was left out’, he really wasn’t. But also he was with Chelsy [Davy, the Prince’s former girlfriend]. Chelsy was always around. And Chelsy and Kate got on really well.” The brothers were “so close”. “The banter was great. They used to go around being silly with each other and winding each other up, jumping out at their dad from corners and making him laugh. It was just like a family.”

Harrold watched the Sussex wedding from afar, and managed to lip-read: Since leaving Highgrove, Harrold has often watched on as a pundit. He reported live from the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s wedding in 2018, dipping between interviews and the picnic blanket where Stooks was installed. As he was still working for the family he was among those invited to watch from the lawn in front of St George’s Chapel and brought Harrold along as his guest. Watching the family file out of the ceremony, which included the famous 14-minute sermon by Bishop Michael Curry, Harrold claims in the book to have overheard a few choice words on the lips of the late Duke of Edinburgh. “Once all the formalities were over, we watched as the happy couple, and then the other members of the Royal family, filed out of the chapel,” he writes. “When Prince Philip came out he turned to the Queen and said, ‘Thank f— that’s over.’”

[From The Telegraph]

The royalists are already crowing that Harrold has definitively contradicted Prince Harry’s account of his own feelings and his devastation at his father’s second marriage. I don’t know, guys. Should we believe Harry’s descriptions of his own conversations and feelings, or should we believe some guy who used to work for King Charles who wants to sell a particular revisionist history? Should we believe the guy who believes he overheard Prince Philip say those words after Harry’s wedding?

As for the talk about Harry being close to Kate, and Harry constantly hanging out with Will and Kate… that was one of the most surprising aspects of Spare, for me at least. That in their 20s and early 30s, William, Harry and Kate really weren’t hanging out that much, at least according to Harry’s narrative. I also got the impression from Spare that Harry left a lot of stuff out about his “lost years,” his pre-Meghan years, especially when it came to Kate and the Middletons. He didn’t even mention the years-long attempt to put him with Pippa. I also think Harry was trying to be a gentleman, especially about Kate and what she was really like back then.
