Box office clashes have always been a topic of interest, and in the past, we have seen enough occasions where the battle turned ugly. One such clash was between Shah Rukh Khan’s Raees and Hrithik Roshan’s Kaabil. Over this high-voltage clash, Rakesh Roshan slammed SRK for being ‘unethical’ and damaging the potential of both biggies for no reason. Keep reading to know more!

For those who don’t know, Shah Rukh Khan and Rakesh Roshan share a good bond, and we all know how close friends Khan and Hrithik Roshan are. However, back in 2017, the box office clash affected Khan’s relationship with senior Roshan. In fact, Roshan went all out, saying how Khan didn’t do the right thing, as the decision not to back down from the clash would impact the box office of both films.

What Did Rakesh Roshan Say About Kaabil Vs Raees Box Office Clash?

While talking to Indian Express, Rakesh Roshan shared that after a lot of brainstorming, he decided to shift his Kaabil to January 2017 as he got a clean slate to release his film. As a lot of films were arriving in October, November, and December of 2016, the veteran filmmaker and producer moved his film ahead as he thought clashing his film with other films wasn’t a good practice.

To Rakesh Roshan’s surprise, just after Kaabil was announced for January release, he learned that Shah Rukh Khan was coming with his Raees, and that too on the same date. Talking further, Roshan said, “I met Shah Rukh Khan and explained it to him that there is a well and we both are jumping into it. Because there is a box-office limitation of not crossing 300 crore, either you will be at 170 crore and I at 130 crore or vice versa. I also told him Hrithik is not your contemporary. Your contemporaries are Salman Khan and Aamir Khan, who have already crossed 300 crore. So it is better that we don’t clash and you choose some other date.”

As Shah Rukh Khan didn’t back down from a clash, Rakesh Roshan went on to call this clash ‘unethical.’ Meanwhile, both Raees and Kaabil were box office winners. The Shah Rukh Khan starrer did a business of 139.21 crores in India, Hrithik Roshan’s film had earned 126.85 crores despite a clash.

What Next For Rakesh Roshan? 

Roshan is currently preparing for Krrish 4. While he would not be returning to the director’s chair, the filmmaker alongside Aditya Chopra would be guiding Hrithik Roshan, who will himself direct the film while starring in the titular role.

What Next For Shah Rukh Khan? 

The superstar is set to appear next on King, one of the most-awaited upcoming Bollywood movies. While not much has been revealed about the film, it is shaping up to be a star-studded mega project, directed by Siddharth Anand.

Shabana Azmi is celebrating her 75th birthday today. The actress was seen entering the venue for her birthday bash with husband Javed Akhtar. The couple twinned in red as they posed for the paparazzi. The two of them also waved at their fans and well-wishers waiting outside the venue.

The star-studded bash was also attended by Rekha, Hrithik Roshan, Preity Zinta, Madhuri Dixit and more. While Rekha donned a dramatic yet edgy black and white ensemble, Hrithik was seen in a casual avatar. Vidya Balan was seen with Manish Malhotra and Karan Johar, chatting away while sharing heartfelt laughter. The stars waved at their fans before entering the venue.

Hrithik Roshan once left Karan Johar shocked, Priyanka Chopra in splits with his confession about who he wants to work more with between Salman Khan, Aamir. 

Filmmaker Karan Johar’s Koffee With Karan is known for serving up spicy revelations from Bollywood celebrities. The show debuted in 2004 and has since aired eight seasons over a span of 21 years. During the second season, Hrithik Roshan appeared on the talk show with Priyanka Chopra and took a sly dig at Aamir Khan and Salman Khan’s height.

During the rapid-fire round, when Karan Johar asked Hrithik, “Aamir or Salman, which actor would you like to work with more?” Hrithik replied, “Well, they’re both the same height. Either.” His response left Karan Johar shocked, while Priyanka Chopra couldn’t stop laughing.

Hrithik made his Bollywood debut with Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai in 2000, by which time Salman Khan and Aamir Khan had already established themselves as stars. Salman began his career as a supporting actor in Biwi Ho Toh Aisi before rising to fame with his lead role in Maine Pyaar Kiya. Aamir first worked as a child actor in his uncle Nasir Hussain’s film Yaadon Ki Baaraat and later rose to fame with his first lead role in Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak. All three became overnight sensations with their debut films and are now among the most bankable actors in Bollywood.

Hrithik Roshan, Salman Khan and Aamir Khan’s upcoming films

Hrithik was most recently seen in War 2. Helmed by Ayan Mukerji, the film also marked Jr NTR’s Bollywood debut and earned ₹364.34 crore worldwide. He will now be donning the director’s hat for his upcoming film, Krrish 4.

Salman is currently busy shooting for his upcoming film Battle of Galwan. Directed by Apoorva Lakhia, the war drama also stars Chitrangada Singh and is based on the 2020 Galwan Valley conflict between India and China. Aamir, on the other hand, is awaiting the release of his upcoming production, a romantic drama starring Junaid Khan and Sai Pallavi. According to trade analyst Taran Adarsh, the film is titled Mere Raho and is scheduled to release in cinemas on 12 December.

In a candid conversation on the YouTube channel Something Bigger Show, Madhu Chopra reminisced about the time when Ashok Chopra was diagnosed with cancer and needed urgent treatment in Boston, US. Madhu shared, “It just so happened that Priyanka was shooting Krrish with Hrithik and Rakesh Roshan, so she shared her worries with them. He asked her, ‘Why are you crying?’ and then both father and son made that possible for the airlines to take us. They helped us, put in a word, they knew people.”

Madhu Chopra further shared that her late husband chose to keep the illness private. “He told me not to tell anybody, not in the family, we will go through it ourselves. That was the hardest time to see this mountain slowly getting weak and dealing with something. He couldn’t share his anxiety, his worries, and he was internalising it all,” Madhu said.

Earlier, in her autobiography, Unfinished, Priyanka Chopra also extended her heartfelt gratitude to Hrithik and Rakesh Roshan for supporting her in crucial times. Priyanka wrote, “If we hadn’t had people around us who were so kind and so willing to act on our behalf — Hrithik and his father, Rakesh sir, our family in Boston – I doubt that my father would have made it. There’s no way I can ever express my gratitude adequately to them, but it is deep and it is enduring.”

What’s Next For Priyanka Chopra & Hrithik Roshan?

On the work front, Priyanka Chopra is set to return to Indian cinema after a long time. She will share the screen with the superstar Mahesh Babu in SS Rajamouli’s highly anticipated film, SSMB29. She was also signed alongside Katrina Kaif and Alia Bhatt for Farhan Akhtar’s Jee Le Zara, announced years ago, but no updates on filming have emerged since.

Regarding international projects, her latest film, Heads of State, recently premiered on Amazon Prime Video. She will next be seen in The Bluff, a 19th-century Caribbean-set action-adventure film.

On the other hand, Hrithik Roshan’s much-awaited action thriller War 2 was released in August 2025. He is next reported to reprise his iconic superhero role in Krrish 4. Rakesh Roshan announced the fourth installment of the popular franchise, and pre-production would begin in 2026 for a 2027 release.

Shah Rukh Khan and Rakesh Roshan are two of the most influential personalities in the film industry. They have collaborated in several movies, including King Uncle, Karan Arjun, and Koyla. SRK started his Bollywood journey in 1992, and during his initial years, the actor managed to convince Roshan to drop Salman Khan from one of his movies and him instead. SRK is referred to in the media as the Baadshah of Bollywood, King of Romance, and King Khan. He made his Bollywood debut with Deewana in 1992. He gained recognition for his negative roles in Baazigar and Darr. SRK then starred in numerous romantic movies that were box office hits, thus earning the title of ‘King of Romance.’

Shah Rukh Khan and Rakesh Roshan collaborated for the first time in King Uncle, which featured Jackie Shroff, Shah Rukh, Anu Aggarwal, Nagma, Paresh Rawal, Sushmita Mukherjee, Pooja Ruparel, and Deven Verma in crucial roles. But did you know that Roshan wanted to cast Salman Khan in the role of Jackie’s younger brother in the movie and not SRK? Rakesh’s friend and producer, Vivek Vaswani, shared the interesting story in an interview with Film Companion.

How Shah Rukh Khan Convinced Rakesh Roshan To Cast Him In King Uncle

According to Vaswani, SRK got cast in King Uncle and signed a three-film deal with Rakesh Roshan’s company Filmkraft despite not appearing in even one film until then. Vivek revealed that he suggested Shah Rukh Khan‘s name to Rakesh. When the Pathaan star met Roshan, the latter asked him why he should cast him.

Vivek recalled, “He explained how Rakesh had already sold King Uncle. So casting Salman and paying him more money was not going to raise the price of the film, and casting Shah Rukh at lower money was not going to reduce the price of the film.” For the record, Vaswani imbued knowledge about the film industry in SRK and wrapped it with his charm to captivate the filmmaker.

Vaswani added, “Rakesh ji’s mouth was open because this man is talking like a professional of the industry, like a veteran, and he is one, as far as he is concerned, one newcomer from TV.” As Salman Khan was already a star in the industry, SRK’s logic struck a chord with Roshan, and eventually, he got the part.

What Next For Shah Rukh Khan?

2023 turned out to be a busy year for SRK as he appeared in three back-to-back films, including Pathaan, Jawan and Dunki. He also had a cameo role in Tiger 3. The actor is now gearing up for his next big release, titled King, one of the most-anticipated Bollywood films. The movie is scheduled to be released in 2026.
