Jay Duplass Directs a Holiday Romance

by jummy84 September 4, 2025
written by jummy84

If you find yourself feeling down on your luck this holiday season, it might be time to ask yourself a simple question. Do you really need all 32 of your teeth? Couldn’t you spare one or two in exchange for a potential lifetime of happiness?

That’s more or less the takeaway from “The Baltimorons,” though Jay Duplass’ bittersweet holiday romance takes a few detours on its way there. Co-writer and star Michael Strassner gives himself a tailor-made breakout role as Cliff, a sad sack Baltimore native who can’t properly celebrate his six month sobriety milestone because he’s mourning an unsuccessful suicide attempt and his depressing (and in all likelihood, depressingly common) improv-comic-to-mortgage-broker career path. His struggles with addiction clearly took a toll on his fiancé Brittany (Olivia Luccardi), and their relationship has evolved into something more resembling a caregiver and patient than a romantic partnership (with all the resentment that accompanies that, of course). And these days, she seems more concerned about him relapsing into comedy than having a drink.

Paul McCartney 'Man on the Run'

It doesn’t take long to ascertain that Cliff is going nowhere in a hurry, but sometimes all you need is a lucky break. His comes in the form of a dental emergency when he absentmindedly walks into a doorframe on his way into Christmas Eve dinner with Brittany’s family, knocking a pearly white out of his mouth and sending him straight to the one dentist in town who’s willing to work on a holiday.

Cliff is the one having needles jabbed into his gums, but Didi (Liz Larsen) might be having the worst day of the two people in this particular dental office. Christmas Eve is her favorite day of the year, but she’s just been informed that her adult children won’t be coming over tonight because her ex-husband has decided to throw an impromptu wedding reception after his impromptu courthouse wedding with his second wife. It doesn’t help that her patient initially comes across as the most insufferable Comedy Guy you’ve ever met — nothing he does in the 101 minutes of this film suggests that he’s remotely problematic, but we all know somebody with the exact same vibe who has posted a Notes App apology on his Instagram story — and the laughing gas turns him into even more of an oversharing mess than he already was.

Cliff makes a few ill-timed passes at her under the plausible deniability of painkillers, and Didi would love nothing more than to cut ties after their appointment. But Cliff’s car gets towed, and Brittany doesn’t seem eager to come pick him up, so a combination of Good Samaritan instincts and a desire to avoid her lack of Christmas Eve plans prompts Didi to drive him to the impound lot. Neither one of them is willing to admit that they’re hanging out because they have nowhere else to go, but one errand gives way to a Christmas Eve odyssey that sees them break the law, feel the first sparks of love (or at least attraction), and commit the ultimate sin: performing improv together.

“The Baltimorons” is an Indie Movie with a capital “I,” and would likely have been branded as such even if it was produced by Paramount or Netflix. When you think of indie film as a genre (as opposed to a statement of financial affiliations), this is the kind of movie that comes to mind. It’s the tale of an unremarkable man who, through the power of cinematic storytelling, overcomes a few of his myriad flaws and is humanized in the eyes of audiences en route to a bit of incremental improvement. But Duplass’ first directorial effort without his brother Mark bears the elegant simplicity of a life spent learning how to make good Indie Movies, and its combination of charismatic leads, smooth shot compositions, and timeless Christmas music ensures that you’ll be rooting for its May-December romance to take hold by the time it ends.

December ennui is a universal experience, and this film makes no effort to hide the fact that we’re all destined to suffer from the Holiday Blues at one point or another. Human lives inevitably ebb and flow yet the calendar is consistent, ensuring that a few Decembers will always coincide with a few of our lowest points. But tragedy is often the trailer that plays before opportunity, and “The Baltimorons” makes a solid argument that every one of us is only a dental catastrophe away from turning everything around.

Grade: B

An IFC Films release, “The Baltimorons” opens in New York City on Friday, September 5 before expanding on September 12.

SIMONE ASHLEY’S SECRET ROMANCE EXPOSED!” – Bridgerton Star Spotted Kissing Mystery Man At US Open | Glamsham.com

by jummy84 September 4, 2025
written by jummy84

US Open’s front row became a celebrity-filled event on September 1, as cameras spotted Bridgerton star Simone Ashley courtside with comedian Zakir Khan and actor Kal Penn. While spectators loved Simone’s stylish and elegant look, it was her snuggling session with a mystery guy that made all the headlines. The 30-year-old actress, who came to fame for her role as Kate Sharma, was seen giggling, watching the match, and even exchanging a kiss in the stands.

As Just Jared reports, the guy is Tim Sykes, a 44-year-old restaurateur and a regular at New York’s dining scene. He is linked with Ruby’s Café and Dudley’s and is a member of the Wish You Were Hear Group, which runs restaurants in New York, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas. Although his Instagram account is private, fans were quick to spot that Simone follows him.

Zakir Khan Makes History
Comedian Zakir Khan, who had recently sparked controversy with his record-breaking U.S. comedy tour, sat directly next to Simone. Famous for his “Sakht Launda” character, Zakir had people laughing when a user cracked a joke online, “Sakt launda bhi sharma gaya,” as he sat close to the kissing pair.

Only weeks before, Zakir was the first Indian comedian to do a full Hindi-language set at New York’s Madison Square Garden, entertaining a sold-out audience of 6,000. His face even illuminated billboards in Times Square, symbolizing a defining moment in his career.

Kal Penn Joins the Trio
It was joined by actor Kal Penn, who has been a part of House MD and How I Met Your Mother. With Simone Ashley, Zakir Khan, and Kal Penn seated together, the courtside row turned into an ideal picture of desi talent leaving its mark on the world.

‘Preparation for the Next Life’ Review: Bittersweet Immigrant Romance

by jummy84 August 31, 2025
written by jummy84

The spark between two soon-to-be lovers ignites inside a Latin nightclub in New York City, as the pair dance with clumsy playfulness to the Spanish romantic ballad “Un Velero Llamado Libertad” (A Sailboat Named Freedom). Their origins and struggles couldn’t be more disparate: She is an undocumented immigrant who’s part of China’s persecuted Uyghur ethnic minority; he’s a white Army veteran with no clear direction and a chronic case of PTSD.

Holding on their comforting stares and unspoken exchanges with only Emile Mosseri’s sonic drizzle of a score as company, filmmaker Bing Liu (best known for his Oscar-nominated documentary “Minding the Gap”) delicately traces their blossoming and improbable romance in his first foray into fiction, “Preparation for the Next Life,” based on Atticus Lish’s 2014 novel of the same name, written for the screen by Martyna Majok.

Neither the dangerously rampant mental health afflictions among military folk nor the dehumanization and exploitation of undocumented people have gone unexplored in American cinema. However, the character-driven humanism of “Preparation” makes these topics feel experientially explored through concrete events and interactions, rather than simply superimposed on a narrative. The drama observes how the circumstances shape their relationship, turning the mundane into their battleground.

What tethers Aishe (Sebiye Behtiyar) and Skinner (Fred Hechinger) so intensely to one another, despite their seemingly incompatible backgrounds, is the shared feeling that they don’t naturally belong to the world in front of them. Isolated while surrounded by millions of people, they find in one another a life-affirming anchor. At one point, early in their courtship, the camera moves through layers of people to find them silently licking McDonald’s soft-serve cones, visually pushing everyone aside to make them the center of it all.

During the honeymoon phase of their relationship — which will become a blistering chronicle of impossible love and resilience in modern America — Liu and cinematographer Ante Cheng capture the couple and the city with an ebullient dynamism, making the urban vistas and the crowded streets of Chinatown seem almost idyllic. But that aura of possibility begins to fade when the less pleasant edges of their respective realties come to light.

At first, their bond hinges on physicality. They dare one another to do pushups, to chug down beers. Aisha prides herself on her body’s fortitude, earned through years of training with her soldier father. Narrated flashbacks to her childhood in the vast landscapes of China reveal a yearning for a previous existence she can’t go back to. Her “next life” is the here and now in the U.S., where a steadfast conviction to appear indestructible to others conceals her inner fragility.

Meanwhile, there’s an endearing naiveté to Hechinger’s performance. Skinner moves through the world with a cautious eagerness to connect, desperate for the feeling of being acknowledged. His awkward body language and soft gaze exhibit a boyish tenderness, clouded only by the erratic outbursts of his condition. That he’s far from a muscular, disaffected, overtly macho-type — yet wishes to transform himself into a bodybuilder — makes for a more convincingly relatable figure. And yet, Skinner’s gentle, unsophisticated demeanor — which attracts Aishe to him — also renders him limited in his understanding of her situation. The stakes of her everyday plight escape his worldview.

That’s the crossroads they must face. How can she compel him to truly see her? More than once, Aishe looks at Skinner with a rather specific expression, not one of condescension or pity, but charged with a genuine desire to believe that they can build a life together, that their painful present can change. In fact, it’s the potency of her still visage that makes Behtiyar (an Uyghur actress in her first feature) an acting revelation. Behtiyar plays the assertive Aishe as a young woman unwilling to surrender her dignity or dwell on anguish.

Thanks to its terrific stars and Liu’s patient direction, which luxuriates in the smallest of gestures, “Preparation” transcends its most predictable beats, such as Aishe’s encounter with immigration authorities or Skinner’s inevitable, ignorant, final lashing-out episode.

Late in “Preparation,” Aishe walks into a mosque. There, an Inman speaks to her about how the tribulations and suffering we experience while alive will be rewarded in the hereafter. But the foundation of her defiance lies in trying to mine purpose, and perhaps even joy out of this existence. It’s a sorrowful realization for Aishe that her most invaluable asset is her ability to flee, to readapt, to not become beholden to any place or person in order to survive.

Thus, when the song that first brought her and Skinner together returns as a motif for yearning, one can comprehend that loss is her only constant — at least in this current life.

Kevin Costner is casually dating director Kelly Noonan Gores.

Kevin Costner’s new romance

The 70-year-old actor and the 46-year-old actor are said to have met through mutual friends and are enjoying their new romance.

A source told PEOPLE: “They met through mutual friends. Kelly is seeing Kevin, but it’s very casual. She thinks he’s wonderful and interesting.”

And while Kelly and Kevin are enjoying their new romance, friends have insisted it isn’t serious as dating is not a priority for Kelly.

The source said: “Dating is not a huge priority for her though. The past year was tumultuous for her. She separated from her husband last summer and then she lived in a house in Pacific Palisades that burned down. She’s focused on her daughter and her own health.”

Kelly and her former husband Alec Gores, 72, who share daughter Riley, six, together, divorced in 2024 after eight years of marriage.

Speaking previously on her Heal with Kelly podcast , she said: “It was excruciating. Even though I initiated the conversation, neither of us wanted this, and it was extremely heartbreaking.”

Meanwhile, dad-of-seven Costner, split from his second wife Christine Baumgartner in 2023, which he previously admitted was a “crushing moment” for him.

Kevin – who was married to the designer between 2004 and 2024 – told ‘CBS Mornings’: “That’s a crushing moment. It’s powerful. It hurt. But I go forward. I have no choice – my children are looking at me.

“So I can’t wilt like a daisy, I have to go forward.”

Kevin added he was determined to protect his children following his divorce. The movie star said: “I have to continue to be who I am and keep a special eye on who they are.”

Kevin is father to three adult children – Joe, Annie and Lily — with his first wife Cindy Silva as well as son Liam from his relationship with Bridget Rooney and he’s also dad to three teenagers – Grace, Cayden and Hayes – with Christine.

Brett Goldstein & Imogen Poots in Romance ‘All of You’ Official Trailer

by Alex Billington

“I don’t want to do it… I would rather just find it…” Same for me. Apple TV has revealed the official trailer for All of You, a romantic drama from filmmaker William Bridges, best known as the writer of the “USS Callister” episodes from “Black Mirror”. This is the first feature film he’s directed, and it earned many great reviews last year – All of You premiered at the 2024 Toronto & London Film Festivals a year ago. Sadly it’s skipping theaters entirely but will be streaming at home starting this September. Brett Goldstein and Imogen Poots star in a stirring near-futuristic romance as best friends who harbor an unspoken love for one another even after this test matches one of them up with their supposed soulmate. All of You explores whether one person can ever be your everything in this humorous and heart-wrenching romantic drama. This near future sci-fi romance premise is very similar to the other Apple TV film Fingernails a few years ago. The cast of All of You also includes Steven Cree and Zawe Ashton. It’s a lovely trailer highlighting how heartfelt & passionate this story is. I really hope they end up together! I can feel the chemistry already.

Here’s the official trailer (+ poster) for William Bridges’ romance film All of You, direct from YouTube:

Best friends since college, Simon (Brett Goldstein) and Laura (Imogen Poots) drift apart when she takes a test that finds her soulmate despite many years of unspoken feelings between them. As the time passes, as their paths cross and diverge, neither can deny the feeling that they’ve missed out on a life together. Faced with the uncertainty of changing the course of their lives, are Simon and Laura willing to risk everything to experience the love that had been between them all along, or should they accept their fate? All of You is directed by award-winning British writer / filmmaker Will Bridges (aka William Bridges), his first feature film after directing for the anthology film Ultimate Zombie Feast and creator of the “Soulmates” series; he also wrote the “USS Callister” episodes of “Black Mirror” previously. The screenplay is written by William Bridges and Brett Goldstein. It’s produced by Ryder Picture Company’s Aaron Ryder & Andrew Swett, with William Bridges & Brett Goldstein. This first premiered at the 2024 Toronto Film Festival last year. Apple debuts Bridges’ film All of You streaming on Apple TV+ starting September 26th, 2025. Look any good?

Gustaakh Ishq Teaser Out! Manish Malhotra Presents Old-School Romance Featuring Vijay Varma, Fatima Sana Shaikh And Naseeruddin Shah- Watch

by jummy84 August 26, 2025
written by jummy84

Manish Malhotra has always carried cinema within him..the grandeur, the spectacle, the moods and moments that first stirred his imagination. Long before fashion turned him into a household name, it was the silver screen that shaped his vision. Now, with his maiden theatrical production, Gustaakh Ishq, releasing in November 2025, he steps into film production under his own banner, Stage5 Production. Set in the bylanes of Purani Dilli and the fading kothis of Punjab, Gustaakh Ishq is a love story of passion and unspoken desire. It draws from a world where architecture holds memory and music carries longing.

Gustaakh Ishq Teaser Out

The film is directed by Vibhu Puri and brings together creative geniuses — music by Vishal Bhardwaj, lyrics by Gulzar, sound by Resul Pookutty and cinematography by Manush Nandan. At its heart lies an ensemble whose range defines contemporary Bollywood — from veteran Naseeruddin Shah to the deft Vijay Varma, Fatima Sana Shaikh and Sharib Hashmi.

Manish Malhotra On Gustaakh Ishq

Speaking about his foray as a producer, Malhotra says, “My love for cinema began in childhood. The silver screen was my doorway to the world. Watching colours, clothes, music, and lifestyles unfold in cinema halls shaped my imagination and inspired me to become a designer. Today, stepping into film production feels like my way of giving back to the medium that has given me everything. With Stage5 Production, the journey ahead is about embracing the unexpected; through stories, genres, and films that continue to surprise and inspire.”

Produced with his brother Dinesh Malhotra under his company Stage5 Production, Gustaakh Ishq marks a new chapter for Manish Malhotra. Its the one that looks back at the magic of classic storytelling while stepping into the future of Indian cinema. In theatres, November 2025, and we can’t wait to see a story that soothes our hearts.

Ghosts Season 5 is quickly taking shape at CBS as the network unveiled its first look at Season 5’s premiere episode, “Soul Custody.”

As fans will recall, the spirits of Woodstone and their living cohabitants Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar) and Sam (Rose McIver) were taken by surprise in Season 4’s finale. It turned out that Jay had accidentally signed a deal with the devil, promising his soul to hell in exchange for notoriety with his newly-opened restaurant, Mahesh, thanks to the devious Elias Woodstone (Matt Walsh).

And now, as they look ahead to the future, the Season 5 premiere finds Sam, Jay, and the ghosts attempting to extricate him from this deal with Elias as Walsh returns in the hilarious guest role. Meanwhile, the season premiere’s logline also teases that Isaac (Brandon Scott Jones) helps Puritan spirit, Patience (Mary Holland), through a crisis of confidence, and Pete (Richie Moriarty) and Alberta (Danielle Pinnock) navigate the fallout from their Season 4 finale kiss.

As seen in the various photos below, it is teased that Caroline Aaron is returning as Pete’s ex-wife Carol alongside cholera ghost, Nancy (Betsy Sodaro). Could she have something to do with the fallout surrounding Pete and Alberta’s kiss? Only time will tell for certain. Along with Ambudkar, McIver, Holland, Jones, Moriarty, Pinnock, Sodaro, and Aaron, Season 5 of Ghosts sees the return of fellow costars Asher Grodman as Trevor, Devan Chandler Long as Thorfinn, Roman Zaragoza as Sasappis, Sheila Carrasco as Flower, and Rebecca Wisocky as Hetty.

You won’t want to miss it! In the meantime, we’re pulling the curtain back on Ghosts‘ Season 5 premiere with a gallery of photos below. Scroll down for a closer look and stay tuned for more on Ghosts Season 5 in the weeks to come.

Outlander: Blood of My Blood star was unsure about character romance

by jummy84 August 22, 2025
written by jummy84

“I think Henry’s sort of given up on life, really,” said Irvine. “I think he’s lost all hope and his last throwing out of a lifeline, really, is this open letter which, through the magic that happens in the Outlander universe, happens to land on his soulmate’s desk and they fall in love through words.”

Irvine then recalled the scene where they come face to face for the first time and they “just know, I just know that it’s her”.

“I remember calling [executive producer] Matt [Roberts] up going, ‘No one’s going to believe this. No one’s going to believe it,'” he said. “And Matt went, ‘No, I want there to be this magic about this world.’

“And it was only when I saw it, I went, ‘Oh my God, yeah, you’re completely right.'”

Read more:

“It is heightened, but it’s so lovely in the very cynical world that we live in now, to have this complete lack of cynicism and just lose yourself in that,” added Irvine. “It’s difficult to imagine these days, but I think the poetics of the letter writing of that time also allows that.

“They fall in love before they even meet, and I think there’s something really beautiful in that.”

Hermione Corfield as Julia Moriston, Jeremy Irvine as Henry Beauchamp, Jamie Roy as Brian Fraser and Harriet Slater as Ellen MacKenzie. Starz

That “magic” is also present during Ellen and Brian’s first encounter, which Harriet Slater described as “love at first sight”.

“Not everyone might believe in that, but it was written in the script as a ‘thunderclap moment’, when two souls that are destined to be together finally meet, and so there is an element of fantasy about it,” said Slater.

“These two characters just know, after seeing each other for a split second, that there’s something there,” added Jamie Roy.

“There’s this magnetism that draws them together that they’ve never felt before. There’s just something really, really special there. And hopefully we showed that.”

Get ready to groove to the beats of the season’s hottest track—‘Bahli Sohni’, the latest release from Sajid Nadiadwala’s upcoming action-romantic entertainer Baaghi 4. Featuring the electric pairing of Tiger Shroff and Harnaaz Sandhu, this high-energy number is poised to take over wedding sangeets, party playlists, and dance challenges across the country.

Following the tear-jerking ballad Guzaara, Bahli Sohni gets into high gear with contagious energy and vibrant visuals. Directed by the legendary Farah Khan, the song exudes charm and boasts a signature hookstep which is bound to go viral. With Harnaaz making her grand Bollywood debut alongside action hero Tiger Shroff, the two share undeniable chemistry and more glitz to the dance number.

The song is ably supported by a phenomenal musical crew—Nikhita Gandhi and Mani Moudgill provide their vocals, while the lyrics and music are written by the talent duo of Mani Moudgill and Badshah. T-Series presents the Baaghi 4 music, which is already being referred to as one of the most highly awaited music albums of the year.

Directed by A. Harsha and written by Sajid Nadiadwala, Baaghi 4 guarantees an adrenaline-fueled combination of romance and brutal action. Popular for its defying-stunts and emotionally intense storylines, the Baaghi series is back with more drama, more action, and more firepower than before.
