Actor James McAvoy was reportedly punched at a Toronto bar on Monday evening.

First reported by People magazine, the Scottish actor and director was apparently hit, unprovoked, by a patron at Charlotte’s Room, located on King Street West in the downtown area, mere blocks away from where the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) takes place.

The Split star had attended the premiere of his directorial debut, California Schemin’, at TIFF with his wife Lisa Liberati on Saturday.

While a trip during the rainy season is calming, there are a lot of health challenges, particularly for pregnant women. Know how to stay safe with these tips.

Monsoon unveils a new side to familiar sceneries, whether it’s making nature look greener or giving the cityscape a fresh look. So, people feel tempted to go on trips during the rainy season to see these beautiful sights, including pregnant women. But monsoon also brings several challenges that demand extra caution for expectant mothers. From slippery roads to a higher risk of illnesses, pregnant women need to take due precautions to ensure a safe journey.

Dr Ritu Choudhary, Lead Consultant, Obs and Gyn, Robotic and Laparoscopic Surgeon at Apollo Cradle and Children’s Hospital, Bangalore-Electronic City, told HT Lifestyle that safety is essential, from maintaining hydration to eating clean foods. She said, “With some pro-activeness in choosing the right mode of transport, keeping oneself hydrated, eating clean food, and prioritising safety, expectant mothers can ensure a safe and pleasant journey in monsoons. ” Further, she cautioned that if the conditions worsen, then visit a doctor.

Dr Ritu Choudhary shared eight tips, including essentials ranging from what types of clothes to wear to the preferred seat type on transport:

1. Ask a doctor first

  • Always consult the gynaecologist before arranging any travel, especially during the first or third trimester of pregnancy.
  • Travel may be prohibited during high-risk pregnancy or at certain stages, depending on individual health conditions.
  • Always carry reports and documents of medical history and emergency contact numbers.

2. Selecting proper transportation

  • Trains and private vehicles are usually more comfortable and safer than buses or two-wheelers during the monsoon; thus, always prefer those if possible.
  • When travelling via flight, always check the airline policies for pregnant women and avoid air travel after 36 weeks of pregnancy.

3. Check the weather and road conditions

  • Always check the weather before and look at a weather app or website to get a clearer view of whether to venture out.
  • Avoid going out when it is pouring rain, or there are storms or other warnings.
  • Long road trips should be further considered by the prospect of wet roads, water pooling, and poor visibility.
  • All of these situations drastically increase slipping and falling or getting into a car accident.

4. Prioritise comfort and safety

  • Wear loose, cotton clothes and keep a spare set of clothes nearby. Carry waterproof jackets and strong umbrellas.
  • Wear anti-slip, comfortable shoes to minimise the risk of slipping on wet surfaces.

5. Maintain hygiene

  • The risk of infections like UTIs and gastroenteritis is greater during the monsoon.
  • Keep hand sanitisers, wipes, tissues, and a toilet seat disinfectant spray handy.
  • Minimise the use of public toilets. Drink clean potable water.

6. Follow a balanced diet

  • Pregnancy cravings are normal, but it’s advisable to avoid street food during the monsoon.
  • Eating fruits, salads, that are already cut and food that is left uncovered can be risky.
  • Oily, spicy, or very salty foods could also trigger heartburn or indigestion.
  • Consume freshly cooked food only prepared under hygienic conditions.

7. Ensure protection from mosquitoes

  • Dengue and malaria peak during the monsoon season so dress in long-sleeved shirts and apply pregnancy-safe insect repellents.
  • Stay away from stagnant water and sleep under a mosquito net on your travels

8. Take breaks during travel

  • Extended travel can cause leg cramps, back pain, or fatigue. Remember to take regular breaks from your travels to move and stretch.
  • If you are travelling by car, be sure to stop every 1.5–2 hours.
  • When booking a train ticket, it is best to book a lower berth for the convenience and safety of getting on and off the train.

Daisy Shah Clarifies Her Remarks On Kannada Industry After Reports Misquote The Actress

by jummy84 August 30, 2025
written by jummy84

Actress Daisy Shah has responded strongly after a small part of her recent interview was blown out of proportion by media outlets. In a chat with a media house, Daisy recalled her early days while working on a Kannada film. She mentioned that during her free time she watched TV and noticed song sequences where unusual props like fruits, vegetables, ice, or water were used on the heroine’s navel.

She spoke about this as a light-hearted observation without naming any actor or film. However, parts of Daisy Shah’s statement were picked up in isolation, leading to sensational headlines that suggested she was criticising the Kannada industry as a whole. Clarifying her stand, Daisy posted a note on Instagram stories. “And yet again a small conversation has been blown out of proportion… I have worked in Kannada Industry before and Sandalwood has been very kind to me,” she wrote.

She further urged people to watch her full interview before drawing conclusions. “Randomly watching few songs on a TV channel then and me talking about it doesn’t give you the right to generalise it for the entire Industry,” she added. Addressing media houses directly, Daisy said, “Please stop making false narratives and making headlines just to gain views on your page. Please keep it Organic most importantly keep it REAL.”

Her clarification makes it clear that she continues to hold respect for Sandalwood and the people she has worked with. The incident also reflects a larger issue faced by many celebrities — where selective quotes are often turned into misleading narratives. By calmly explaining her side, Daisy has ensured that her true feelings for the industry remain transparent: one of gratitude and respect.

Edinburgh TV & Film Fest Reports

by jummy84 August 22, 2025
written by jummy84

We’re here again, Insiders, as we come to the close of another week. Jesse Whittock here guiding you through a round-up of the most notable stories from the past week. Sign up for the mailing list here.

Shonda Shines

Star power and spice: Jake and Max have been pounding the halls of the Edinburgh International Conference Centre the past four days for the 50th anniversary of the Edinburgh TV Festival, an event that struck a positive chord after a 2024 characterized by doom and gloom. There was more of a creative buzz around the fest this year and it was helped along by some serious American star power in the form of Shonda Rhimes, who won an inaugural fellowship award – as she warned there are genuine fears U.S. networks are self-censoring in the Trump 2 era – and Tina Fey, who is speaking with Graham Norton in arguably the fest’s splashiest session as this email hits your inbox. Last year’s Edinburgh was defined by chatter over the “squeezed middle” – the death of mid-budget programming and the detrimental impact this was having on the sector – but attendees this year told us there was a distinctly “new normal” feeling to proceedings, and this was welcome. Not that Edinburgh didn’t come without its bit of spice. During the opening debate, Channel 4 news chief Louisa Compton set the agenda for the entire thing in one fell swoop as she claimed Netflix had behaved like “TV tourists” by commissioning Adolescence – a show created by talent that Channel 4 had been training up for years. There were audible ‘oohs’ as she delivered her line. Netflix scripted exec Mona Qureshi later hit back, saying: “I don’t think I’m a tourist – I’ve been around.” There were more ding-dongs as the week went on, including frustration from BBC, ITV and 5 chiefs when Channel 4 content boss Ian Katz slammed rivals for being “timid.” It was all very enjoyable to watch, and, to stress, remained good natured throughout. Elsewhere, big show announcements came in the way of HBO-Sky legal thriller War starring Dominic West and Sienna Miller, Channel 4’s reimagining of Army of Shadows from Top Boy creator Ronan Bennett, and ITV’s Traitors-esque gameshow Nobody’s Fool. All our coverage can be found here.

Anti-Bullying Body Funding Failure

CIISA refuseniks: On the first morning of Edinburgh, Jake broke the news that several major players in the UK were refusing to fund the Creative Industries Independent Standards Authority (CIISA), an independent body set up to deal with harassment and complaints in the British TV industry in the wake of several high-profile scandals. Channel 4, Disney, All3Media, Fremantle and Banijay have all declined to pay the voluntary fees, we understand, while Netflix and Paramount-owned 5 wouldn’t confirm either way. The BBC, Warner Bros. Discovery, Sky and ITV are among those who are funding. The understanding is the refuseniks are seeking more clarity on what the funds will be used on – CIISA is yet to deliver on its central pledge to launch a misconduct hotline, and several industry sources I’ve spoken to in the wake of Jake’s scoop have questioned why the body’s costs for 2026 are an estimated £2M ($2.7M). Whether that’s necessary or not, it’s a bad look PR-wise to be the guys who aren’t supporting an anti-bullying initiative. This is an intriguing story that looks set to keep running.

Why You Can’t Replace De Niro’s Voice

Dubble take: The TV set weren’t the only screen professionals in Scotland’s capital this month. Before Jake and Max travelled up for the television confab, Zac journeyed north for the Edinburgh International Film Festival, which ran from August 14-20. Among several notable talks, three-time Oscar-winning film editor Thelma Schoonmaker railed against the use of dubbing in international film releases during a talk about her late filmmaker husband, Michael Powell. “How do you replace Robert De Niro’s voice?” she queried, before answering her own question, “It’s just impossible.” Not only that, but she called the process of sending a film to her European counterparts “painful.” Sorry Euro friends. To be fair, when you’ve edited all of Martin Scorsese’s films since Raging Bull, you’re entitled to your own opinions. In Zac’s report, Schoonmaker addressed Powell’s legendary filmmaking partnership with Emeric Pressburger, which spawned films such as The Red Shoes, The Life and Death of Colonel Blimp and Black Narcissus. “Their friendship was remarkable,” she said. Lots more Edinburgh Film Fest content flooded in through the week, including stories on Kevin MacDonald, Paul Sng and Two Neighbours director Ondine Viñao. Read more.

Ray Guns For Marvel

Mike Marsland/WireImage

Not so Marvellous: Ray Winstone‘s trip to the Sarajevo Film Festival was, as it turns out, as memorable as you might have expected. In town to receive an Honorary Heart of Sarajevo award, the veteran actor recalled during one talk a bruising experience doing reshoots for Marvel’s 2021 pic Black Widow. “I told them they should recast,” he recalled. “But I was contracted to do it.” So he did. It’s fair to say Winstone isn’t a huge fan of what the Marvel Cinematic Universe and other superhero franchises are doing to the wider ecosystem of filmmaking. “There is room for it and it’s fun, but it takes away from getting cultural films made, which are best for the actors and are really good acting parts,” he opined. Lots more from Mr Winstone about his fascinating career is here, including a story about Martin Scorsese and a famous leather jacket. More Sarajevo stories from Diana here, including a fun talk from Nosferatu actor Willem Dafoe, as the festival comes to an end today.

Daniel Dae Kim‘s Korea Highlight

‘Butterfly‘ effect: Daniel Dae Kim may have been a favorite on American TV shows for the past two decades on Lost and Hawaii Five-O, but his new Prime Video thriller series Butterfly provided the actor with something none of his past work could. “Shooting something in Korea has always been a goal of mine,” he told Sara in an interview published earlier this week. So keen was Kim to shoot in the country of his birth that he actually asked the head of publisher Boom! Studios whether a TV series could move part of the action from the U.S. and Europe, where the comic books on which Butterfly is based on are set. The recently-named honorary citizen of Seoul got his wish, and the series would shoot in numerous South Korean locations, including in the mountains, countryside and the capital. “I love that we got to shoot in Busan too, which is where I was born,” he recalled. The choice was clearly a good one, as Butterfly this week reached top spot in Prime Video’s U.S. charts, marking both and on- and off-screen success for Kim, who also exec produced through his production company 3AD and a development deal with Amazon MGM Studios.

Lil Nas X hospitalized in Los Angeles for ‘possible overdose,’ say reports – National

by jummy84 August 21, 2025

Rapper Lil Nas X has reportedly been hospitalized in Los Angeles after suffering a possible overdose.

In a video shared by TMZ, the Old Town Road rapper, 26, was seen in his underwear and cowboy boots, roaming along Ventura Boulevard in the Studio City neighbourhood around 4 a.m. local time on Thursday.

Someone driving by Nas, born Montero Hill, recorded him, while he repeatedly pointed at the camera and at one point, placed an orange traffic cone on his head.

“Hey, don’t be late to the party tonight,” Nas tells the person behind the camera. “You know where it’s at.”

“Didn’t I tell you to put the phone down?” he asks the person. “Uh-oh, somebody’s going to have to pay for that!”

Nas goes on to say that it’s going to be “a beautiful sunrise” and threatens to throw the person’s phone.

“I’m going to throw it far away so you never see it again. I don’t like phones,” he says in the video.

According to the TMZ, several people in the area had reported seeing “a naked man” walking in the road. When the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) officers reportedly responded, they found Nas walking down the middle of the road.

The Industry Baby rapper charged at police, who put him in handcuffs and told paramedics that Nas might have experienced a possible overdose, LAPD told a local NBC news affiliate. He was then transported to a nearby hospital.

LAPD sources told the NBC affiliate that the 26-year-old artist is expected to be booked on suspicion of misdemeanour battery on a police officer.

Nas has not addressed the incident since his hospitalization and his representatives have not made an official comment on the reports.

The latest incident follows a separate health scare Nas faced earlier this year.

In April, the That’s What I Want singer revealed that he had been hospitalized with partial facial paralysis, which temporarily affected the movement on the right side of his face. He posted an Instagram video of himself from the hospital bed, telling his followers that he “lost control” of movement in his face.

“This is me doing a full smile by the way,” he said in the video. “I can’t even laugh right, bro.”

The Grammy-winning rapper told his fans that he was OK, adding, “stop being sad for me!”

In 2019, the rapper rose to fame after his breakthrough single, Old Town Road, became a viral hit.

Nas is set to release his upcoming second studio album, Dreamboy, later this year.
