Long hours sitting at office causing back pain? Study suggests a simple routine that may bring relief

by jummy84 November 14, 2025

Does your lower back cramp up after sitting for long hours at the office? Desk-bound jobs usually involve very long hours sitting in one position. So it is no surprise when the body eventually protests, showing up with complaints in different ways, including weight gain or a severe backache. Back pain is one of the most immediate effects of prolonged sitting. This leaves many wondering how often they should stand, and if there’s any specific interval that lowers the pain better.

A study published in the journal of Applied Ergonomics put all the guesswork to rest by suggesting an interval that may help ease back pain more for office workers.

What did the study find?

The researchers wanted to identify which sit-stand routine alleviates back pain. They compared two methods. The first one was a fixed routine where everyone followed the same rule of 30 minutes sitting and 15 minutes standing. The second was personalised, which determined the person, choosing their own timing based on when their back aches.

The results showed that those who followed the 30:15 routine had reduced back pain and reported better concentration, lower stress. However, when the study participants followed their personalised timings, the improvements were very slight.

What does 30:15 sit-stand routine mean?

As per the findings, sitting for 30 minutes and then standing for 15 minutes was found to provide more substantial benefits. You may try to customise your own sit-stand routine at work, but it may not be as effective. A personalised routine typically involves deciding your own intervals, based on personal convenience or work commitment. For example, standing up and going for a walk, only after your presentation deck is complete, or when your back aches.

But here’s the catch: you may be inconsistent when you decide your own sit-stand interval. But when you follow a fixed routine, i.e, sitting for 30 minutes, followed by 15 minutes of standing, it removes your guesswork as well. You have a structured plan, and even the results are better.

UK Government Urged To Introduce Tax Relief On Indie Movie Advertising

by jummy84 October 31, 2025
written by jummy84

UK chancellor Rachel Reeves, who will deliver a landmark budget in less than a month, has been urged by the influential Culture, Media & Sport Committee (CMSC) to introduc a tax relief for the print and advertising costs of indie movies.

In a letter published this morning, CMSC chair Caroline Dinenage said there are “countless films that end up not getting the audiences they deserve” due to these high costs.

The committee’s idea is that any movie that applies to the recently-introduced 40% indie tax relief would be eligible for a 25% tax relief to support the distribution and exhibition of British features.

“Even top-quality films cannot find an audience without distributors and their investment in promoting films,” wrote Dinenage. “Cinemas will not programme films without marketing spend attached, as the risk would be too great. The IFTC [indie film tax relief] will successfully offset the risk of making independent British films, but alone it will not offset the challenges of distribution and exhibition.”

Dinenage highlighted the success of British movies like Oscar-winner Conclave and StudioCanal’s recent I Swear but said while they play “to packed audiences nationwide, there are countless films that end up not getting the audiences they deserve.”

Dinenage’s letter came complete with some positive mathematics. She quoted the Film Distributors Association, which commissioned modelling of the potential impact of the proposal and found a return of more than £7 ($9.20) for every £1 spent on the relief, including a net positive return to Reeves’ Treasury department. The cost of the intervention would equate to just 2% of the total amount of film tax relief claimed on production costs, according to Dinenage.

The gamechanging 40% indie tax relief was introduced by the previous Conservative government and has had a huge impact on the indie movie sector. The current Labour government also rubberstamped additional VFX relief but has been relatively cold on introducing any more tax reliefs for the sector. TV industry bods have been calling for improvements to the high-end TV tax relief amid spiraling drama costs but ex-Culture Minister Chris Bryant recently told us this is unlikely.

Reeves’ budget will take place on November 26 and is being seen as a huge moment 18 months in to this Labour government, which has been slipping further and further in the polls.

Hrithik Roshan Gets Relief From Unauthorised AI Content From Delhi HC- Deets Inside

by jummy84 October 15, 2025
written by jummy84

Hrithik Roshan has recently joined the growing list of celebrities who have taken legal steps to protect their personality rights. While it may seem like a trend among public figures, safeguarding personality rights is crucial, especially in the age of artificial intelligence.

Hrithik Roshan Gets Relief As Delhi High Court Protects Personality Rights

According to Lakshmikumaran Sridharan Attorneys, the term ‘celebrity’ is often seen as a mark of success and honour. Athletes and artists earn it through talent, businesspeople and TV personalities through wit, politicians via votes, and some acquire it by birth or chance involvement in high-profile events.

When celebrities seek to protect their personality rights, there are two key aspects: first, the right to prevent unauthorised commercial use of their image, known as publicity rights under intellectual property law; and second, the right to privacy, which is the right to be left alone.

According to a Law Beat report, Hrithik was granted relief by the Delhi High Court, which directed the removal of certain posts infringing on his personality rights, including unauthorized use of his name, image, and likeness. However, the court declined to order the immediate takedown of fan pages dedicated to him, stating that fans’ pages cannot be removed at this stage without proper proceedings.

Justice Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora explained that fan clubs should be given a chance to respond, and the matter will be revisited on March 27, 2026.

Which Celebs Have Sought Personal Rights?

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was among the first to legally defend her personality rights, followed by her husband Abhishek Bachchan, Karan Johar, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, and journalist Sudhir Chaudhary. Now, Hrithik Roshan has also taken legal action.

Tragedy at Vijay’s Karur Rally: 39 Killed in Stampede, Relief Announced By CM

by jummy84 September 28, 2025
written by jummy84

A tragic day unfolded in Tamil Nadu’s Karur on Sunday when a stampede at actor-turned-politician Vijay’s rally left 39 people dead, including nine children and 17 women. More than 100 others were injured in the shocking incident that has shaken the state.
The rally was organised by Vijay’s newly formed party, the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), and drew thousands of supporters. Witnesses said the crowd became difficult to control as Vijay addressed the gathering. In the commotion, several people fainted, and panic quickly escalated into a stampede, with many trampled in the rush.

Hours later, Vijay shared an emotional statement, expressing deep sorrow. “My heart is shattered. I am writhing in unbearable, indescribable pain and sorrow that words cannot express. I extend my deepest condolences and sympathies to the families of my dear brothers and sisters who lost their lives in Karur. I pray for the swift recovery of those receiving treatment in the hospital,” he said.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin called an emergency meeting soon after the incident. He announced compensation of 10 lakh Rs each for the families of the deceased and directed officials to provide immediate medical attention to the injured. Helplines — 7010806322 and 04324256306 — were also shared for families seeking information about loved ones.

Vijay

Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin condemned the tragedy, stressing that loss of life is not justified and called for stricter safety measures at public gatherings. Meanwhile, security has been tightened at Vijay’s Chennai residence following the incident, sources confirmed.
The stampede has cast a dark shadow over Vijay’s political debut. What was meant to be a show of strength for TVK has turned into a moment of national mourning, raising urgent questions about crowd control and event safety.
As Tamil Nadu grieves, leaders across political lines and members of the film industry have extended their condolences. For now, the focus remains on relief, recovery, and accountability for a tragedy that has claimed dozens of innocent lives.

Rosemary tied to stress relief, possible role in Alzheimer’s treatments: Study

by jummy84 September 24, 2025
written by jummy84

Rosemary is not just a cooking herb anymore. Scientists are paying closer attention to its role in brain health, anxiety relief and even protection against Alzheimer’s disease. Rosemary has been tied to sharper memory for centuries. According to JSTOR Daily, in ancient Greece, students placed sprigs of rosemary in their hair before exams. Roman scholars used it during study sessions. Now, researchers say that tradition may have a basis in science.

Studies have linked rosemary to memory and stress relief, even hinting at a possible role in future Alzheimer’s treatments.(Representative image/Unsplash)

A recent study found that people who inhaled rosemary aroma performed better on memory tests compared to those who did not, the Independent reported. The idea is simple: the scent stimulates blood flow, including to the brain, which may help deliver oxygen and nutrients more effectively.

How rosemary helps the brain

Rosemary contains 1,8-cineole, a compound that slows the breakdown of acetylcholine, a chemical the brain uses for learning and memory. By protecting acetylcholine, rosemary may support focus and cognitive function as people age.

It also offers a calming effect. Inhaling rosemary essential oil has been shown to lower stress, which in turn can boost memory retention. And because it is packed with antioxidants, rosemary helps guard brain cells from damage caused by oxidative stress, a major factor in dementia.

One of the most promising discoveries is carnosic acid, found naturally in rosemary. Scientists at the Scripps Research Institute created a synthesized version of it, called diAcCA, in early 2025. According to their study, when diAcCA was used to treat mouse models with Alzheimer’s disease, it reduced toxic Alzheimer’s proteins and improved memory.

“The compound is only active in areas of the brain undergoing inflammatory damage,” researchers explained, meaning fewer side effects are likely. Trials showed no toxicity and even growth in new synapses.

Senior author and professor Stuart Lipton, MD, PhD, the Step Family Foundation Endowed Chair at Scripps Research and a clinical neurologist in La Jolla, California, said that they “also took down other misfolded or aggregated proteins such as phosphorylated-tau and amyloid-β, which are thought to trigger Alzheimer’s disease and serve as biomarkers of the disease process.”

Benefits beyond memory

Rosemary’s impact is not limited to the brain. According to JSTOR Daily, for centuries, it has been used to ease digestion, reduce bloating and calm inflammation. Rosmarinic acid and ursolic acid, both present in rosemary, are known for their anti-inflammatory properties.

The herb may also aid the skin. It helps with acne and eczema, while carnosic acid may protect against sun damage. Rosemary oil has shown antimicrobial activity, useful in food preservation and in fighting bacteria and fungi.

Sprinkling rosemary on food or using it in teas and oils is safe. But concentrated extracts in large doses can be dangerous, causing vomiting or, rarely, seizures. Pregnant women are advised to avoid high amounts.

Rosemary’s role in future Alzheimer’s treatments remains under study, but experts say its traditional uses for memory and stress are gaining real backing. For now, adding rosemary to meals, teas, or even just enjoying its scent may offer simple and surprising health benefits.

FAQs

What are the main health benefits of rosemary?

Rosemary may support memory, reduce stress, protect brain cells, aid digestion, and even benefit the skin.

How does rosemary affect the brain?

Compounds in rosemary protect acetylcholine, a chemical tied to learning and memory, and its scent may boost blood flow to the brain.

Can rosemary help with Alzheimer’s disease?

Early studies show compounds in rosemary, like carnosic acid, may reduce toxic brain proteins linked to Alzheimer’s, though research is ongoing.

Is rosemary safe to use daily?

Yes, rosemary in food, tea, or aromatherapy is safe. High doses of concentrated oil or extracts can cause health problems.

What are the traditional uses of rosemary?

Historically, rosemary has been used for memory, digestion, bloating relief, and ritual purposes in ancient cultures.

Jacqueline Fernandez Seeks SC Relief In Rs 215 Cr Money Laundering Case; Hearing Tomorrow- Deets Inside

by jummy84 September 21, 2025
written by jummy84

Jacqueline Fernandez has approached the Supreme Court seeking relief in a Rs 215-crore money laundering case linked to conman Sukesh Chandrasekhar. The actress is contesting the Delhi High Court’s decision not to annul the case against her, which was filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The case involves allegations of money laundering amounting to over Rs 200 crore, with Fernandez named as a co-accused.

Jacqueline Fernandez Approaches SC Seeking Relief In Rs 215 Cr Money Laundering Case

A bench of Justices Dipankar Datta and Augustine George Masih is scheduled to hear her petition on Monday, September 22. The ED’s chargesheet, filed on August 17, 2022, claims Fernandez continued to accept lavish gifts from Chandrasekhar despite being aware of his criminal activities.

The agency alleged that she concealed receipts related to the crime and even used wiped-out data from her phone to hide evidence. The ED stated, “Fernandez admitted it after confrontation,” highlighting their suspicions about her involvement.

Jacqueline On Sukesh’s Criminal Background

Fernandez, however, has denied the allegations, asserting she had no knowledge of Chandrasekhar’s criminal background. “I had no idea about his criminal activities,” she has maintained over the years. Despite her protests, the controversy surrounding her and Chandrasekhar remains intense, with their viral pictures from 2022 fueling widespread speculation. Even while Chandrasekhar remains in jail, reports suggest he continues to send her lavish gifts and love letters.

The ED’s statement further details, “Sukesh Chandrasekhar had given various gifts worth Rs 5.71 crore to Jacqueline Fernandez from the proceeds of criminal activities including extortion. Chandrasekhar used his long-time associate and co-accused Pinky Irani to deliver these gifts to her.”

Fernandez has been questioned multiple times by the ED, as well as by the Delhi Police’s Economic Offences Wing, and was named in a supplementary charge sheet filed by the authorities.

Karan Johar Gets Relief From Delhi High Court in Personality Rights Case

by jummy84 September 18, 2025
written by jummy84

Filmmaker Karan Johar has secured significant relief from the Delhi High Court after raising concerns about the misuse of his image, voice, and name on social media without consent. The court affirmed that his personality rights would be protected and directed major tech companies, including Google, Meta, and X, to provide relevant information. Meanwhile, the e-commerce site Redbubble has been ordered to take down content deemed objectionable, with the court promising a detailed order at the next hearing.

Justice Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora clarified that “Defendants 14, 15, and 16, which comprise the social networking companies Google, Meta, and X, will supply IT log records in addition to Basic Subscriber Information details.” The court also summoned other online platforms like Giphy and Pinterest (defendants 2-5 and 7-10) as part of Johar’s main lawsuit. Summons for the remaining defendants, including Redbubble and the social media giants, will be considered at the next hearing, as they were primarily impleaded for compliance purposes.

The court indicated during proceedings, “In the IA (interim relief application), I will pass a detailed order. Injunction to be granted.” Counsel for Redbubble confirmed they would begin removing infringing material within a week. At the previous hearing, the court had asked Johar to provide a precise list of URLs or posts that required action and to clarify the types of content, such as whether they were defamatory, obscene, or misleading.

Karan Johar

This development comes amid a series of recent decisions by the Delhi High Court protecting celebrity personality rights. Similar orders were recently passed in favour of Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan, where the court noted that the unauthorized use of their images, voices, and names through technologies like AI constitutes a violation of privacy. The Johar case reinforces the judiciary’s stance on safeguarding individuals against misuse of their digital persona.

Dharma Productions shared a statement, “Karan Johar gets relief from Delhi High Court in personality rights case. The court stated that Karan Johar’s personality rights will be protected – his picture, voice, and name cannot be used on social media without his permission.”

As reported by LiveLaw, the Delhi HC directed companies like Google, Meta, and X to provide details, while the website Redbubble has been asked to remove objectionable content. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan Got Relief From Delhi High Court In Petition Against Use of AI-Generated Content

by jummy84 September 11, 2025
written by jummy84

Bollywood actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan has received significant relief from the Delhi High Court in her petition against the unauthorized use of her photos, videos, voice, and AI-generated content. The court observed that the misuse of a celebrity’s identity without consent is not only a violation of their personality rights but also an infringement of their fundamental right to live with dignity.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan

Issuing interim directions, the court ordered e-commerce platforms, Google, and other respondents to take immediate action. Within 72 hours, they must remove, block, and deactivate all complaint URLs flagged in Aishwarya’s petition. Additionally, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has been instructed to issue necessary directives to ensure that such content is taken down. Google and other platforms have also been asked to submit original customer information in a sealed envelope.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan

Aishwarya’s petition raised concerns over the misuse of her personality and copyright rights. She highlighted that her images were being tampered with using AI technology, and in some cases, even obscene content was being circulated online in her name without authorization. The actress stressed that such misuse not only damages her reputation but also causes financial losses.

Aishwarya Rai Bachchan

Justice Girish Kathpalia, while passing the order, remarked that unauthorized exploitation of a celebrity’s identity can mislead the public, dilute their brand value, and tarnish their credibility. He stated, “The plaintiff has made a strong prima facie case. Misuse of her name, pictures, or signature without consent creates confusion and is clearly a violation.” The court further noted that some respondents had used Aishwarya’s personality traits with the help of AI tools, thereby intensifying the harm to her dignity and reputation. Interestingly, Aishwarya is not the only one from the Bachchan family to move court on this issue. Her husband, actor Abhishek Bachchan, has also filed a similar petition.
