Mindy Kaling rejected recent date set up by Reese Witherspoon

25 October 2025

Mindy Kaling recently turned down a date set up by Reese Witherspoon.

Mindy Kaling is single

The 46-year-old actress quickly put a stop to fellow actress Reese, 49, trying to play matchmaker because Mindy is not looking for love right now.

Mindy – who previously dated 46-year-old actor B.J. Novak – said on a recent episode of the One Nightstand podcast: “Once pretty recently, Reese Witherspoon wanted to set me up with somebody.

“And I didn’t even look to see who it was. I didn’t laugh in her face because I love her, and I love that she was thinking of me in that way.

“But I just thought, ‘It’s not time.’ But I laughed at the idea of doing my hair, putting on makeup and getting out there.”

The Mindy Project alum has two daughters, Katherine, seven, Anne, 19 months, and a five-year-old son, Spencer – and their godfather is B.J.

And the comedienne said dating would not work at the moment because she would be away from her bundles of joy – whom their father has never been named – and is always travelling for work.

Mindy said: “I have three kids under the age of seven, so for me to want to leave them, especially when I travel for work a lot, just, you know.”

Elsewhere, Mindy has previously recalled her most embarrassing date – a man who did not think they were on a date.

The Office star shared on Reddit: “The worst date I’ve ever been on was with a guy who I was super excited about, really attracted to, and then on the date it became apparent that it WASN’T a date.

“He was just a straight dude who was psyched to have dinner with me in a platonic way. He talked about an actress he really wanted to date, and we split the check.

“This is dating in Los Angeles.”

‘No Other Land’ Rejected a Distribution Deal From MUBI

by jummy84 October 18, 2025
written by jummy84

The filmmakers behind the Oscar-winning Palestinian documentary “No Other Land” spent their many months on the awards circuit calling out American distributors for being unwilling to offer the film a U.S. theatrical distribution deal, telling IndieWire last November that “distributors are afraid to engage with the topic of Israel and Palestine.”

Since being released theatrically independently and winning the Oscar, the film is now finally being made available on streaming. The filmmakers have chosen to again release the movie independently, making it available for on-demand digital purchase and rental via Apple TV, Amazon, Google Play, and YouTube, as they announced on Instagram earlier today. But, as it turns out, “No Other Land” did have interest from a major U.S. distributor to release the film via SVOD streaming, but the filmmakers “rejected” the offer.

Channing Tatum and Kirsten Dunst star in Paramount Pictures' "ROOFMAN."

That distributor was MUBI, and in a press release, co-directors Basel Adra and Yuval Abraham said they ultimately turned down the deal over the long-running controversy concerning MUBI’s $100 million investment from Sequoia Capital.

“This film shows the reality of Israeli occupation and oppression against Palestinians — but that truth apparently didn’t fit the narrative that big U.S. streamers wanted to promote. We talked to MUBI for months, and initially thought our film had found its home, but in the end we learned that they were accepting a huge investment from Sequoia Capital,” Adra said in a statement.

“In addition to being unethical, it made no sense to us that they would take our film showing Israel’s oppression of Palestinians, and then also partner with a company contributing to that oppression,” Abraham added.

MUBI declined to comment when reached by IndieWire.

MUBI secured a $100 million investment from Sequoia Capital in May 2024, at which point backlash slowly grew over the fact that, in addition to MUBI (and numerous other tech companies and investments), Sequoia had also invested in Israeli military tech start-up Kela. The start-up was founded by Israeli intelligence veterans in 2024 following the October 7 terrorist attacks, as well as two other Israeli defense companies.

Since that investment became public, filmmakers and even employees internally have called on MUBI to return the investment and accused the art house streamer and distributor of being complicit with genocide in Palestine.

In August, CEO Efe Cakarel put out a lengthy statement stressing that Sequoia is merely a minority investor without oversight over programming, editorial, or financial decisions; that Cakarel remains the majority shareholder in MUBI; and that any assertion that MUBI’s profits would go to fund other companies in Sequoia’s portfolio were untrue. It also clarified that Sequoia partner Shaun Maguire, who came under fire for Islamaphobic social media posts, had no involvement with MUBI operationally or strategically. The company also put in place an “Ethical Funding and Investment Policy” about establishing criteria for future investments.

But the perception and backlash has persisted. Last month, a Los Angeles film festival dropped MUBI as a presenting sponsor over the controversy, and the “No Other Land” news is the latest example.

Though technically released without the aid of a formal distributor, “No Other Land” had a lengthy theatrical run, thanks to aid from other independent exhibition partners, and the movie has since made $3.6 million worldwide at the box office, making it one of the higher-grossing documentaries of the year.

Adra wrote a guest column for IndieWire back in February about the crisis still taking place in Masafer Yatta. A co-director on the film, Hamdan Ballal, was attacked and arrested back in March. In September, Adra revealed that his home in the West Bank was raided by the IDF. And two months ago, a collaborator on “No Other Land,” Awdah Hathaleen, was killed in the conflict.

Sonam Bajwa is a celebrated star in the Punjabi film industry. She is known for her beauty and exceptional acting skills, and some of her notable Punjabi films include Carry On Jatta 2, Godday Godday Chaa, and Honsla Rakh, among others. Her last Bollywood film was Housefull 5, and she has a handful of upcoming projects like Baaghi 4 and Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat, both releasing in 2025. However, did you know that she initially rejected several Bollywood films that required her to do a kissing scene? Read on to know more.

Sonam Bajwa Rejected A Bollywood Film

In an interview with Film Companion, Sonam Bajwa shared that she once rejected a Bollywood film because of a kissing scene. She shared, “In Bollywood, I said no to a couple of things because I said, ‘Is Punjab going to be okay with it?’ Because we have that mentality that family should be okay, families should be watching. I was very scared to do a kissing scene in a film back then, because I thought, ‘ How are people going to respond to it? How are these people who have made me who I am today, are they going to relate to it? Are they going to understand that this is for the script? Is my family going to understand that this is for a film? I had all these questions in my mind. And I let go of a couple of things.”

Sonam Bajwa Recalled An Incident

Sonam also reminisced about an incident of calling her parents and spoke about giving it more thought without rejecting the offers. Sonam said, “It was a couple of years ago; I spoke to my mom and dad about it. They were like, ‘Yes, if it’s for a film, it’s fine.’ And I was so shocked. Why did I not speak to them first? So many things we assume in our heads. I was so shy to discuss this with my parents, and they were like, ‘Koi nahi, je film liya, koi chakkar nahi.’”

More About Sonam Bajwa

For the unversed, Sonam Bajwa was a finalist in Femina Miss India 2012. In the Punjabi film industry, Sonam Bajwa made her acting debut in 2013 with the film Best Of Lucky alongside Gippy Grewal and Jazzy B. Her big break in Bollywood was in Dajid Nadiadwala’s Housefull 5. Sonam will be next seen in Baaghi 4, Border 2, and Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat.

Jay-Z’s Times Square Casino Proposal Rejected By Advisory Committee

by jummy84 September 17, 2025
written by jummy84

Jay-Z, SL Green, and Caesars Entertainment’s bid to transform Times Square into the next major casino playground has been struck down. On Wednesday (Sept. 17), the state’s six-member community advisory committee denied the proposal with a 4-2 vote, per numerous sources.

Those four “nay” votes came from reps for Manhattan Borough President Mark Levine, state Sen. Liz Krueger, Assemblyman Tony Simone, and Councilman Erik Bottcher, while the governor and mayor’s appointees stood in support with a “yay.”

Following the decision, SL Green CEO Marc Holliday reportedly blasted the naysayers, saying, “Go run and hide. You have to live with that history forever.”

The Broadway League and the No Times Square Casino Coalition have argued that plopping a gaming hub in the middle of Manhattan’s theater district would destroy the magic that draws millions to Broadway every year. Richard Gottfried, former Manhattan assemblyman, stated, “Most residents of the area we heard from are opposed. The Broadway theater industry is adamantly opposed, and they make a strong case that a casino in this area would do major damage to that gem. There’s lots of other places in the city where a casino could thrive.”

Rev. Al Sharpton, who supported the plan, called the decision a missed opportunity. “I was here for Jay-Z,” Sharpton told The Post. “We haven’t seen Black ownership in the entertainment industry in Times Square. I was disappointed that they didn’t break the color line.”

Meanwhile, Jason Laks, president of the Broadway League, celebrated the “safeguarding” of the culture and community. “A vote to protect the magic of Broadway for the one hundred thousand New Yorkers who depend on it for their livelihoods, and for the tens of millions who come from around the world to experience it,” he said. “A casino can go anywhere, but Broadway only lives here.”

While Manhattan has denied a new casino, Queens still has a chance to secure one of those licenses.

Hip-Hop icon Nas has teamed up with Resorts World New York City on a $5 billion expansion plan for Aqueduct Park. If approved, their casino would become one of the largest in the world, featuring a 350,000-square-foot floor, 3,000 units of workforce housing, and 50 acres of new park space.

Nas spoke of his new venture and called it a win for his community. “This is an ambitious project that will give new opportunities to the hard-working families who call Queens home, attract top-tier talent, and build up the next generation of leaders. Clearly, with this project, the world is ours,” he said.

Unlike Times Square, Queens’ community is backing the proposal. Community Board 10 chair Betty Braton praised Resorts World’s track record. “They have been with us in good times and tough times ever since, giving both financial support and their time to this community,” she stated. “I know this partnership will only continue.”

With only three licenses on the table, the stakes are higher than ever.

Ameesha Patel On Why She Couldn’t Play The Village Belle In Aamir Khan’s Iconic Lagaan
Bollywood

Did You Know Ameesha Patel Was Rejected From Aamir Khan’s Lagaan At The Last Minute For THIS Reason?

Ameesha Patel is one of the most loved actresses in Bollywood. With a career spanning over two decades, she has managed to carve a niche for herself in showbiz. Let’s look back at the time when Ameesha reflected on her acting journey while talking about her role in Gadar: Ek Prem Katha and its box office clash with Aamir Khan starrer Lagaan in 2001. Read on to know more.

Ameesha Patel Says She Was The Correct Choice For Gadar: Ek Prem Katha

In an interview with Bollywood Buble, Ameesha Patel revealed that she was rejected from Aamir Khan’s Lagaan for being ‘too educated.’ She shared, “During Lagaan, I was finalized for the film. The dates were fixed, and everything was set. The reason I was chosen for Gadar was because of my education, inherent sophistication, a certain posture, and body language. And my background is coming from a political family. Sakina’s character, which in real life also was a background for Ameesha, was an educated girl, English-educated girl, someone who went to an English school. So, for all these things, I was the correct choice for Gadar.”

Ameesha Patel On Being Rejected For Lagaan

“I got selected for Lagaan, and I was shooting for Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai in New Zealand when my secretary called me and said that Lagaan dates were shifted for Gadar. I said, ‘Why?’ He said, ‘They don’t feel you’re right for the casting for no apparent reason, but she has to play a village belle, and you don’t look convincing enough for that.’ I looked too educated for that, too well exposed to the world, which I was. I was well-read and well-travelled from a very young age, and I was foreign-educated,” Ameesha continued.

Ameesha Patel Praised Gracy Singh’s Work In Lagaan

However, destiny had its own plans and the role was eventually played by Gracy Singh.“So, maybe my director felt that would interfere with getting the characterization on-screen. Of course, if given a chance, I’m sure I would have worked around it and done a good job. But no hard feelings because Gracy Singh did a fabulous job,” Ameesha Patel concluded.

When Shah Rukh Khan Rejected Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge Not Once Or Twice But Four Times Due To His Age-Related Concern

To say that Shah Rukh Khan immortalized Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge’s Raj as the ultimate symbol of romance is just the bare minimum. In the iconic ‘Tujhe Dekha Toh Yeh Jaana’ sequence with the superstar’s signature pose, while standing in the Sarson Ka Khet or the train scene in the climax, every die-hard Bollywood romantics gulped every scene and emotion of the movie as passionately as possible. But did you know that Shah Rukh Khan rejected the movie 4 times? Yes, you heard that right.

We almost missed out on the superstar playing the cult character. Reason? Shah Rukh Khan thought he was too ‘old’ to play the role of Raj in Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge. Imagine the King Of Romance wanting to turn down a role like Raj, sounds a bummer, right? But it ended up happening almost 4 times.

Shah Rukh Khan Initially Rejected Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge

According to a news report in ScoopWhoop, SRK, in a documentary had said, “I never wanted to do a romantic role. Because by the time I joined films I was 26. Normally, romantic films meant that you started off from a college and then you work your way up into romance and then run away with a girl, or committed suicide with a girl. I thought I was too old to be a romantic hero.”

The actor further said he was keen to take up negative roles like Darr and Baazigar, which he felt gave him more prominence. After repeatedly rejecting Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, director-producer Aditya Chopra offered the role to Saif Ali Khan. But as they say, destiny always finds its way to the things meant for you. Yash Chopra persuaded his son to convince Shah Rukh Khan.

Yash Chopra himself decided to meet Shah Rukh Khan and said, “You must take up romantic roles on the big screens if you want to survive in the industry.” The actor could not refuse the legendary producer and nodded to the movie. And the rest, they say, is history. The movie became one of the most successful films in Indian cinema and the longest-running movie in the country. Most importantly, Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge redefined SRK as a milestone actor in romance and charm.

What Next Shah Rukh Khan?

SRK appeared in three back-to-back films in 2023, including Pathaan, Jawan and Dunki. He also had a cameo role in Tiger 3. The superstar is now gearing up for his next big release, titled King, one of the most-anticipated Bollywood films. The movie is scheduled to be released in 2026.
