Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs enters prison rehab program that could reduce sentence – National

Sean “Diddy” Combs is participating in a drug rehabilitation program in prison that could help reduce his sentence by a year, his spokesperson Juda Engelmayer said.

The program is offered at Fort Dix, the federal prison complex in New Jersey where Combs will serve his sentence.

Combs is “committed to sobriety, focused on healing, and trying to set an example for others,” Engelmayer told the New York Times.

“Mr. Combs is an active participant in the Residential Drug Abuse Program (RDAP) and has taken his rehabilitation process seriously from the start,” Engelmayer said. “He is fully engaged in his work, focused on growth, and committed to positive change.”

Combs has been sleeping in a nine-person room within a unit that houses around 200 people and he currently works in the chapel library, Engelmayer added.

On Friday, a report from TMZ claimed that Combs had been caught in prison drinking homemade alcohol, which Engelmayer denied.

Combs’ official X account also shared a statement denying the allegations on Monday, saying, “The rumors claiming Mr. Combs was caught with alcohol are completely false. His only focus is becoming the best version of himself and returning to his family.”

In an Oct. 6 filing, Combs’ legal team requested that he be placed at “FCI Fort Dix for RDAP purposes and any other available educational and occupation programs” in order to “address drug abuse issues and to maximize family visitation and rehabilitative efforts.”

The news of Combs’ participation in the rehabilitation program comes two weeks after his prison release date was revealed following his sentencing.

The 55-year-old disgraced hip-hop mogul was originally scheduled to get out of prison on May 8, 2028, but the date has now been changed to June 4, 2028, according to the Federal Bureau of Prisons’ online database.

On Oct. 3, Judge Arun Subramanian sentenced Combs to just over four years in prison and a fine of US$500,000, the maximum possible, for his conviction on federal prostitution-related offences. He will also be under five years’ supervised release after his time in prison is served.

In his ruling, Subramanian said that “a history of good works can’t wash away the record in this case, which shows that you abused the power and control over the lives of women who you professed to love.”

“You were no John,” he added. “You were more than that, even if your currency was satisfying your sexual desires instead of money.”

Subramanian said a substantial sentence is required “to send a message to abusers and victims alike that exploitation and violence against women is met with real accountability.”

Federal prosecutors had asked that Combs, 55, be sentenced to at least 11 years and three months in prison. Combs’ lawyers urged the judge to sentence him to no longer than 14 months, which would have resulted in his near-immediate release, as he has already served nearly 13 months in a Brooklyn jail.

While addressing the judge, Combs thanked Subramanian for “giving me the chance to finally speak up for myself,” as the former rapper did not testify during his trial.

“One of the hardest things that I’ve had to handle is having to be quiet. Not being able to express how sorry I am for my actions,” Combs said in his statement to the court.

“I want to personally apologize again to Cassie Ventura for any harm or hurt that I’ve caused her – emotionally or physically.”

Combs called his conduct “disgusting, shameful and sick.”

“Because of my decisions, I lost my freedom, I lost the opportunity to effectively raise my children and be there for my mother,” Combs said. “I lost all my businesses, I lost my career, I totally destroyed my reputation.”

Combs said he’s “lost my self-respect” and has been “humbled and broken to my core.”

“I hate myself right now. I got stripped down to nothing,” Combs said. “I want to apologize to my seven children. Y’all deserve better.”

The sentencing marked the conclusion of Combs’ New York trial, which began on May 5.

Combs’ legal team filed a notice of appeal on Oct. 20 in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York from the Oct. 3 judgment. Details of the appeal have not been made public other than the legal filing.

Arthritis is a musculoskeletal condition, impacting the joints. It causes pain, making movement difficult. Here are some dietary choices that may help.

Arthritis affects joints significantly, causing pain during movement. This significantly affects daily functioning. It is one of the most common musculoskeletal issues people face. As per a World Health Organization report from 2023, in 2019 alone, 528 million people around the world were afflicted with osteoarthritis, and by 2025, the number’s only gone up.

Diet is one of the ways to manage chronic pain. Dr Dheeraj Batheja, consultant – orthospine, orthopaedics and spine surgery at Artemis Hospitals, told HT Lifestyle that the diet helps to lower the inflammation.

He said, “Medications help with symptoms, but diet is very important for lowering inflammation and keeping joints healthy. Some foods have nutrients that can help lower inflammation, protect cartilage and make joints work better overall.”

In fact, one of the major benefits of improving your dietary choices is improved mobility. “ People with arthritis may have less pain, be able to move more easily and be healthier overall if they choose their food carefully,” Dr Batheja added.

The doctor identified 5 key food groups that support joint health. He categorised them based on the nutritional profile. Some are essential macronutrients like protein, while others are micronutrients like healthy fats. A well-rounded diet lowers the inflammation level and mitigates pain.

Here are the 5 groups of food Dr Batheja suggested:

1. Foods rich in Omega-3

  • Chia seeds, flaxseeds, and fatty fish like salmon, mackerel and sardines are all good sources of omega-3 fatty acids.
  • These good fats help reduce swelling and inflammation in the joints, which makes it easier to move and less stiff.

2. Low-fat protein sources

  • Lean proteins like chicken, turkey, tofu and beans are important for repairing muscles and tissues without adding extra saturated fat, which can cause inflammation.

3. Fruits and vegetables high in antioxidants

  • Vitamin C and beta-carotene are two examples of antioxidants that are found in berries, oranges, spinach and broccoli.
  • These help get rid of harmful free radicals, which cut down on joint damage and swelling.

4. Whole grains

  • Oats, brown rice, and quinoa are all high in fibre, which can lower C-reactive protein, it is a sign of inflammation in the body.
  • They help keep your heart and joints healthy.

5. Seeds and nuts

Taking magnesium? 7 foods and drinks that may reduce its effectiveness

by jummy84 September 24, 2025
written by jummy84

Magnesium is one of those minerals you do not want to skimp on. It keeps your muscles, nerves, and heart running properly, and it plays a role in bone health, too. Many people turn to supplements to close the gap, but what you eat and drink around the same time can affect how much your body actually takes in. Here’s a breakdown of common foods and drinks that may reduce magnesium absorption or even speed up its loss.

Taking magnesium supplements? Here are 7 foods and drinks that can reduce their effectiveness(Unsplash)

Spinach

Spinach is nutrient-rich but also high in oxalates. Research published in Heliyon (2020) found that oxalates can bind to magnesium in the gut, lowering absorption. Spinach also carries phytates, which interfere more strongly with iron and zinc but may still affect magnesium slightly. Cooking or fermenting helps reduce these compounds, but taking your supplement at a different time than a spinach-heavy meal is still best.

Beans

Beans bring protein, fiber, and minerals to the table, but the phytic acid they contain may slightly block magnesium uptake. A 2020 Food Research International study noted this effect, though some bean fibers may actually help absorption. Soaking, sprouting, or cooking beans reduces phytates and makes minerals more available. To be safe, avoid pairing beans and your magnesium pill in the same sitting.

Tofu

Tofu, made from soy, also contains phytates. While not all studies agree on how much soy impacts magnesium levels, experts suggest separating tofu meals from supplement time, especially if your overall magnesium intake is low.

Colas

Cola drinks contain phosphoric acid. A 2022 Scientific Reports study found that this acid increases kidney excretion of magnesium, and the sodium in soda doesn’t help either. Water or a light meal is a safer partner when you take your supplement.

Caffeine (Coffee and Tea)

Caffeine acts as a mild diuretic, which means you lose more magnesium through urine. A 2018 review in Advances in Chronic Kidney Disease noted the effect. Try spacing your coffee or tea at least an hour apart from your magnesium dose.

Alcohol

Alcohol has a triple effect: it increases magnesium loss in urine, reduces absorption in the gut, and can damage the kidneys over time. A 2021 Nutrients study showed that chronic drinking is strongly linked to low magnesium. Limiting alcohol is key if you’re supplementing.

Dairy and Calcium-Rich Foods

Calcium and magnesium compete for absorption. A 2020 paper in Advances in Nutrition reported that high calcium intake at the same time can crowd out magnesium. If you take both supplements, consider separating them by a couple of hours.

Magnesium is vital, but timing matters. Taking your supplement with water and away from heavy calcium, caffeine, or oxalate-rich foods can help you get the most benefit.

FAQs:

What foods interfere with magnesium absorption?

Spinach, beans, tofu, colas, caffeine, alcohol, and calcium-rich dairy can reduce magnesium absorption or increase loss.

Why should I not mix calcium and magnesium supplements?

Calcium competes with magnesium for absorption in the gut. Taking them together can limit how much magnesium your body uses.

Does caffeine reduce magnesium?

Yes, caffeine is a mild diuretic, so it makes the body flush out magnesium through urine.

How can I improve magnesium absorption?

Take supplements with a balanced meal, avoid alcohol or soda, and space out magnesium from calcium-rich foods by a few hours.

French biochemist shares the ‘easiest way to reduce blood sugar spikes’: Do this simple 5–10 minute exercise after meals | Health

Managing blood sugar levels can be a daily challenge, especially for people with diabetes or those at risk. Jessie Inchauspé, French biochemist and New York Times bestselling author, shares in her August 25 Instagram post how simple techniques like ‘calf raises’ can help reduce blood sugar spikes and support better glucose control. (Also read: Fitness coach shares the best exercise to regulate blood sugar and lower diabetes risk: ‘Building muscle is key’ )

Simple calf raises help lower blood sugar spikes after meals, says Biochemist.

How to do calf raises to lower glucose

“Just eaten a donut or a big bowl of pasta? Try this: Feet on the ground, lift your heels up and down. This makes your soleus muscle (hiding in your calf) contract, helping soak up the glucose from your bloodstream. And boom, smaller glucose spike,” Jessie wrote in the caption.

In a video, Jessie explains, “The soluup pushup or the calf raise, imagine you’re at your desk, at work, or at school, wherever you’ve eaten something really high in carbs. Here is the easiest and most discreet way you can lower the glucose spike at that meal. You simply put your feet on the ground and go up and down, keeping your shoes on, for 5–10 minutes.”

Jessie shares the benefits of this exercise: “Your calves contain a muscle called the soleus, which studies have shown is especially good at soaking up glucose from the bloodstream after we eat.”

What are the benefits

Quoting the study, she explains, “The study, called ‘A Potent Physiological Method to Magnify and Sustain Cellulose Oxidative Metabolism Improves Glucose and Lipid Regulation,’ asked participants to do calf pushups or raises for five hours. That’s a lot, of course, but here’s what they found: five hours of calf raises reduced post-meal glucose spikes by 52% and lowered extra insulin levels by 60%.”

She clarifies, “We don’t have to do this for 5 hours. Even doing 10 minutes can have a strong impact. In my own test, I compared a pain au chocolat with and without 10 minutes of calf raises. The glucose spike was much smaller with the exercise, and it’s very discreet. It’s very, very easy. I recommend you test this out.”
